I had a very fun time on Ken's tour, he knows all of the hidden local spots that would be impossible to find on my own! The food and drink were excellent quality and I was full by the end (arrive hungry). Ken is a great guide and you can tell that he really enjoys introducing people to Japanese bar culture. Highly recommended!

Itinerary
We meet at 6:30 PM at SL Square, as the offices empty out, and start the way office workers do: with a small energy drink from the convenience store, downed in one. Then up into a 1960s building behind the station, to a tiny standing bar pouring sake. You taste three small glasses side by side with a couple of bites, and the first kanpai comes with one rule: you never fill your own glass. Now it's your turn to pour for the person next to you.
Now dinner starts. A busy, no-frills izakaya under the railway tracks, where office workers stop on the way home. Dishes come fast, such as crispy fried noodles, the house slow-simmered stew, a mini cutlet skewer and ginger tempura, with a cold beer, a highball or a lemon sour. Now it's your turn to eat like a regular.
Next, skewers off the grill, elbow to elbow with Shimbashi office workers. This is where the night loosens and the real talk starts. Now it's your turn to ask whatever you want to know about working life in Japan, and get the answer from someone who goes back to the office tomorrow.
Every Tokyo night out ends the same way: at a ramen counter before the last train. A small bowl to close the night, and one last drink if you like. Now it's your turn to finish the night the way Tokyo does. Then I walk you back to the station.

We had the most amazing time on the tour with Ken! We learned so much about sake, local beers, different foods, and the spots he brought us to visit would have never been places we’d known to check out…and were uniformly fantastic. Absolutely worth your time in Tokyo to have this unique experience.
This tour was so fun! Ken was so kind and thoughtful, making us feel welcome and comfortable. He taught us about sake and showed us spots we definitely would not have found on our own. He even shared recommendations for us to try later on during our trip. Thank you, Ken!
Such a great experience! Ken to us to several cosy bars and restaurants that we never would have found on our own. They were a great change from the usual tourist hot spots. There was a funny moment early on when we realised that we had accidentally booked a drinks and snacks tour instead of a food tour! But Ken was very accommodating, and we met lots of friendly locals. The small group size made it a much more intimate experience. It was very memorable. Thank Ken
Really informative and fun tour with Ken, who shared his knowledge and experiences with us, to give us a real insight into the Japanese work and post work culture. He was also very knowledgeable about Sake and gave us plenty of opportunities to taste it, alongside several delicious food options. The food and drink places we went to were crammed full of locals and had a great atmosphere. Ken made sure our plates and glasses were empty! A wonderful experience with a great group and guide.
I had an absolutely fantastic time on this hidden izakaya tour in Tokyo! The host was incredibly friendly, attentive, and fun. He kept us laughing throughout the experience, while also taking the time to ask about our food preferences and making sure we could enjoy exactly what we wanted. What I especially loved was that he took us to several different types of local restaurants and izakayas. Each place had its own atmosphere and character, and together they gave me a chance to see many different sides of Tokyo. Some of the places would have been difficult for international visitors to find or even order at on their own. Thanks to the host’s local knowledge and support, I was able to experience the kind of authentic Tokyo that you might easily miss as a tourist. It was not just a food tour—it was a genuine local experience filled with great food, interesting places, laughter, and wonderful conversations. If any of my friends or acquaintances are visiting Tokyo, I would absolutely recommend this tour to them. You are guaranteed to have a fantastic time and leave with a big smile!
This was a lot of fun, and highly recommended if you want a great guide to take you on a bar crawl of the places only locals go. Kenichi tailored our food and drink orders as we went based on what I liked, and I learned a lot from him about Tokyo after-work culture and about sake. Good for solo travelers or small groups!

Wonderful tour. We highly recommend it to anyone. We would have never found some of the places we visited and met some incredibly friendly locals. It was a great experience. We had to be wheeled out of the final place we ate so much. Kenichi is great at his job. He really goes above and beyond to make people feel comfortable and ensure everyone has a great time. Don't hesitate this is the tour for you.
I never do group tours, and I am SO glad I did this one. Six of us plus Kenichi, and by the second bar we were all friends. The group was half the fun, and even the locals at the counter joined the conversation for a bit. We tasted sake three different ways, mixed our own Tokyo-style drink, tried a craft beer and finished with a lemon sour, while he explained the etiquette and why salarymen drink standing up. Meat, fish, vegetables, something new at every stop, so anyone with allergies or a picky eater would be fine. Just tell him in advance. Skewers in the neon alley, then the "closing" ramen. Everything included, zero pressure to drink. 10/10, would go again tomorrow!
Ken is awesome. Immersive izakaya experience. Must do!
Unexpected highlight of our Tokyo experience. Felt like an old friend taking us around, Ken was so warm and welcoming. We experienced the izakayas like locals. Phenomenal food and sake tastings. It’s off the beaten path. You would not find this area on your own. Just awesome! Well worth the money. Just do it!
I came to Shimbashi with a friend, not quite sure what to expect. What Ken showed us that evening was something I'll carry with me for a long time — small bars tucked into alleyways, the quiet hum of after-work conversations, the smell of yakitori in the air. Nothing staged, nothing polished. Just real, everyday Japanese life, exactly as it is. Ken has a rare gift for hospitality. He was calm, warm, and endlessly thoughtful — always making sure we felt comfortable, always adding a layer of context that made each stop feel meaningful. You never felt like a tourist. You felt like a guest. Shimbashi is not on the usual tourist map, and that's precisely what makes this experience so valuable. If you've ever wondered what Japan looks like when it's simply being itself — this is it. Five stars, with gratitude.
Great Japanese appetizers, creative dishes, sake, and a relaxed atmosphere — it was the perfect place to enjoy the evening with friends and colleagues. Thank you so much for organizing everything Ken-san!!
Ken was such a great person looking after us throughout his tour. I really enjoyed the time spent at an Izakaya he selected. Ken talked about a lot about his life in Japan which made me interested so much. I truly recommend Ken to all of my friends who are planning Japan trips in the future.
Ken-san kindly arranged a reservation for us, and we had such a great time. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the food was delicious, and everything felt very smooth and comfortable throughout the evening. It was a wonderful place to enjoy good conversation and drinks with friends. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a relaxed and enjoyable night out nearby Shinbashi station!
I had some free time one evening during my stay in Shinbashi, but since I wasn’t familiar with the area, I joined this tour to get some local recommendations. Ken-san, was very friendly and took me to places that matched my preferences perfectly. I had a fantastic time and would love to join again!
I added a day & a night on in Tokyo and I really wanted an authentic foodie experience- and this is exactly what Ken’s tour is all about- great local places where only locals go, delicious food, great atmosphere etc. I felt privileged to be shown these places and to learn about Japanese stand up bars where you use dice to pick your dishes! Loved drinking sake and local beers - this is the tour if you really want to get to know authentic foodie Japan!
The tour of Shimbashi Izakaya with my friends was really fun and a great experience to fully enjoy the local charms of Tokyo! The guide was very kind and introduced us to the characteristics of each shop and the history of Shimbashi in an easy-to-understand manner, so I enjoyed it with peace of mind even for the first time. We were able to visit taverns with a good atmosphere that we couldn't enter on our own, and the food and sake were very good. I could feel the real atmosphere of Shimbashi now crowded with friends. It became a memorable night with my friends and one of the most memorable nights of my trip to Tokyo. This tour is highly recommended for those who want to experience the nightlife of Shimbashi!
