Excellent bike tour to see places in Tokyo that we wouldn't have known about. Our guide Gaku was very friendly, professional, knowledgeable and welcoming. The speed and length of the tour were perfect and appropriated for our group.

Itinerary
Starting among the tall skyscrapers of Shinjuku, ride at a relaxed pace through backstreets to see a small shrine in a residential area, a great example of Tokyo's contrasting modern and traditional atmospheres.
Then, head over to Meiji-jingu, the city’s most famous Shinto religious site, through Yoyogi Park where cherry blossoms bloom in the spring. Take your time to walk around the peaceful gardens that surround the shrine with your guide.
Pedal your way to Japan’s Roppongi Hills entertainment complex through the main street of Omotesando — one of the most sophisticated shopping areas in all of Japan — and then take a backstreet to the Aoyama cemetery, which looks and feels like Tokyo 100 years ago.
Next, stop at a local supermarket to buy a bento box for lunch, just like local at your own expense. Then, visit Zōjō-ji temple where Tokyo Tower can be seen just behind.
Enjoy lunch on the waterfront just beside the Rainbow Bridge with panoramic views of the Tokyo skyline including the Aqua City Odaiba complex. After lunch, bike through the main and back streets of Ginza. Check out this exclusive shopping district then cycle your way to the Imperial Palace, home to a traditional Japanese garden, tea pavilion, stone walls, and a moat. Ride through the two outer gates of the castle, then follow along some of the large moat.
Head back to Shinjuku and to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Ascend 48 floors in a high-speed elevator and enjoy the 360-degree view of Tokyo, including the Tokyo Skytree, and even Mt. Fuji on a clear day. Its then just a 5-minute ride back to the original meeting point where your tour concludes.

Our bike tour with Gaku was a highlight of our trip. He was friendly and easygoing from the start. We covered a lot of ground and saw so many different sides of Tokyo that we never would have found on our own. Along the way, Gaku shared great stories and insights about the neighborhoods, history, and everyday life in the city, which made every stop more interesting. Highly recommend this tour!
Had such a great time on this tour. Cannot recommend it highly enough. A great way to take in the city sights. Gaku is very knowledgeable and an excellent guide.
As a solo traveller, I love doing bike tours in countries I've never visited, so when I came across this tour, I booked it five months in advance because the itinerary looked so interesting. It ended up being one of my favourite days in Tokyo! The tour is incredibly well planned and thought out, with regular stops and plenty of time to take everything in without ever feeling rushed. There was so much to see along the way! Some of my many highlights included discovering hidden shrines tucked away in quiet neighbourhoods known only to locals, noticing the little details of everyday life for Tokyoites, exploring the beautiful grounds of Meiji Jingu, and being absolutely wowed by the panoramic views from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. One moment you're cycling through peaceful residential streets, and the next you're riding through the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ginza. The contrast between the different sides of Tokyo was genuinely exhilarating, offering such a unique and intimate way to experience the city! And then there's Gaku! He's incredibly knowledgeable and had the answer to all my questions, even the most random ones! He was so welcoming, thoughtful and patient — I never once felt rushed or like I had to hurry. He's also really funny and a fantastic photographer! It's clear he genuinely cares about his guests and wants them to get the most out of the experience. Whether you're travelling solo or with friends, book it — you won't regret it!
Gaku was a wonderful knowledgeable interesting guide who was always aware of safety and added in some out of the way not on the tourist map places for the day. It was a truely immersive way to experience Tokyo. I had a great day
We had perfect fall day for the 17 mile ride on a circuit through Tokyo - most of the riding on side streets and sidewalks, two couples and Gaku. Highly recommend! Gaku kept us on a good pace and with the mostly flat landscape, the riding was not difficult.
I just did this tour today. Gaku is a fantastic tour guide who insists on small groups (max of 5 people). My group was only 2 so we moved quite easily around the city. The tour covers 29km (according to Strava) and we hit many major sites all over Tokyo. We stopped at a grocery store where I had an opportunity to buy myself some lunch and we sat at the Tokyo Bay waterfront and ate. I've done a number of bike tours in different cities around the world and this one ranks as one of the best ones I've ever done. I would highly recommend.
Gaku is a fantastic guide - really knowledgeable and great fun to spend time with. His tour was a brilliant way to see Tokyo and get a proper feel for the city and its history. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience with a knowledgeable guide who was able and willing to answer any questions we had. Such a fun ride around the city! Would highly recommend.
We kicked off our trip to Tokyo with Bicycle Tours Tokyo, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the city. Our guide, Gaku, was absolutely fantastic! From the very beginning, everything was incredibly well organized. We received clear instructions before the tour, making it easy to find the meeting point and know exactly what to expect. Once we met Gaku, we immediately knew we were in great hands. His English was exceptional, he was incredibly friendly, and he had an answer for every question we threw his way. The tour itself was an amazing way to experience Tokyo. Despite how enormous the city is, we were able to see and learn about so much in just one tour. Gaku brought the city to life with fascinating stories and history as we visited shrines, the Imperial Palace grounds, government buildings, and other incredible parts of Tokyo. It was so much more than simply riding a bike around the city — we got a real feel for Tokyo and its history along the way. This was one of the highlights of our trip and an experience we’ll remember for a very long time. If you’re visiting Tokyo and want to see a lot of the city while learning from someone who genuinely enjoys sharing it with visitors, I highly recommend booking a tour with Gaku. We would absolutely do it again!

Cycling with Gaku was the best part of my time in Japan. His warm nature, clear cycling guidance on the road, and wonderfully curated itinerary were a perfect introduction to Tokyo. Do not hesitate to do a tour with him - it’s a wonderful way to see the city and meet an excellent guide.
Gaku was an amazing host on our trip. He looked after us with excellent cycle craft and on road directions. Great trip zipping through back streets seeing the sights.
Fantastic and amazing tour! Our Guide Gaku was extremly friendly and attentiv. We had a great day with a gorgeous bike Ride through Tokio. Lots of Information and a delicious Lunch Break at the Harbour Front. All together great experience. Like It 👍
One of our top experiences in Tokyo! Gaku was a wonderful guide for me, my husband, and our 17 year old son. It's 18 miles on a regular bike, so it's a good workout but absolutely worth it. Highly recommend!
Family of 5 had a wonderful time riding traditional bikes with Mr. Gaku. Our last holiday bike ride was in Stanley Park (Vancouver), so navigating busy city sidewalks and streets was a completely different, exciting experience! Mr. Gaku was incredibly attentive and ensured we all felt safe pedaling through Ginza. He also shared fantastic insights into local culture and history. It was the perfect private tour for us. Highly recommended! Thank you, Mr. Gaku!
Gaku (Gakuto Miura) was our guide and this was EASILY THE BEST PART OF OUR TOKYO TRIP! We covered all the main Temples, shrines, Imperial Palace, and rode through back streets and busy intersections. We grabbed lunch at a local grocery store continuing on to eat at the Harbor. It was awesome. I had my two teenage kids with me. We made frequent stops for hydration breaks but 17 miles in 94F heat was so much fun because our guide made sure to pause often (plus he provided neck ice packs while we rode so we stayed cool in the hot temps. Highlights: Yoyogi Shrine then bike ride to Yoyogi Park nice and shaded Zozoji shrine imperial Palace Nissan crossing, Shinjuku, Tokyo Gov Building w 55 seconds elevator ride up to the observatory. Great pics feom the top and what a fun way to see Tokyo!!
The tour was okay, we enjoyed the places we went to in Tokyo. However, our guide Gaku either wasn’t very knowledgeable or didn’t feel like sharing information with us on the day we did the tour. We were trying to ask questions but got little information back. We’ve been on tours where the guides are so enthusiastic and passionate about the city they’re touring so were disappointed.
This was a lovely bike tour filled with local knowledge, history, great tips, and fun biking! I highly recommend for solo travelers, couples, or families. The cost is very valuable, and I would suggest to do this activity on your trip. The bikes provided are very clean, useful, and sophisticated, but still comfortable for all riders from beginners to cyclists. Doing this ride in June, the weather was hot so be sure to pack UV protection, cover your skin to prevent burn, and wear sunglasses. Bring a water bottle, but Gaku also offered to refill our water bottles as he packed extra. There are plenty of breaks built into the stops along the route. The route is very well planned and every spot I wanted to see we spent good time. Nothing was rushed. Gaku has vast knowledge, and answered each of my questions with lots of information. He also takes photos of the riders along the way so no need to fuss with selfie sticks. I would do this ride again, because there is so much going on in the city, we would turn a corner and there would be a parade, celebration, or ceremonial event taking place. Additionally, this is a new way to see Tokyo even if you have been before. It gave me confidence to explore less "touristy" spots. Gaku also gave recommendations for Sapporo the next stop on my trip, and suggestions for future visits. It's hard to imagine a trip to Tokyo without this tour.
What an excellent way to get introduced to Tokyo! I love cycling, so this was definitely for me. We hit a LOT of sites and made a good circuit of the city, and it was great to have a guide for Roppongi Hills and Meiji Jingu, though my wife wished Gaku our guide talked more about the culture and the sites without having to be asked. I found him friendly, personable, and happy to explain all sorts of things. If I went to Tokyo with biking friends, I'd book his tour again as our first day activity. It ticked a lot of things off our to-do list and made planning the rest much easier.
Gaku, thank you for a magical trip around Tokyo. We enjoyed spending our first day with you and learning about all of the hidden treasures and your love of the city. What a wonderful way to start our time in Japan!
We loved biking all around the city and getting a broad overview of Tokyo. Gaku was a terrific guide and was so great with keeping us safe and together as a group. Be sure you are comfortable biking in traffic, and there are only a few hills, nothing too bad. I highly recommend this tour.
Perfect length, fun exploration, not hard, excellent variety.
This is absolutely the greatest thing we have done in Japan. Gaku was very fluent in English & was the best host/guide ever! We did 17 miles around the city & hit parks, shrines, had lunch at the Tokyo Harbor. We love you Gaku! Thanks for the wonderful time!
A super great experience with Gaku. Don't hesitate to book this bike trip around Tokyo. We stopped at shrines, parks & topped it off with a high rise view of the city on the top of the government building!
If you’re looking for the ultimate way to explore Tokyo, look no further than Bicycle Tours Tokyo — and make sure you request Gaku as your guide. This tour was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan. Gaku’s passion for Tokyo was absolutely infectious. His depth of knowledge about the city’s rich history was remarkable — he brought centuries of culture and tradition to life at every turn, making each stop feel like a story unfolding before our eyes. What truly set this tour apart was the perfect balance between iconic landmarks and wonderfully off-the-beaten-path discoveries — hidden temples, quiet backstreets, and local shops we never would have found on our own. Safety was clearly Gaku’s top priority throughout. Navigating Tokyo’s busy streets on a bicycle could feel daunting, but his calm, professional guidance made every rider feel completely at ease. It was clear he takes his responsibility to his guests very seriously. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo. Whether you’re a history buff, an adventurer, or simply someone who wants to truly feel a city rather than just see it, this is the experience for you. We will absolutely be back! Thank you Gaku!!
This is a fabulous way to see some of the better known areas and some of the more off the beaten track spots. Gaku our guide was a mind of information and so helpful. The bikes were light and good. It’s a long ride but fun so you don’t notice the distance
We loved the variety of small back streets, parks, shrines, and very busy thoroughfares. Gaku made us feel very safe and was a great host. We enjoyed buying lunch at a local store and eating it at the harbour as well as finishing with the amazing views of where we had been. We would definitely do this again.
Gaku is a wonderful bicycle guide and expertly navigated our family of 5 through the streets of Tokyo. Great way to start our trip in Japan and get a taste of this enormous city. Bikes were in good condition and we felt safe the entire journey. The stops were well planned and local lunch by the waterfront was a nice touch.
We took this tour on a Sunday after arriving in Tokyo the night before. It was a great way to cover quite a bit of ground, get some bearings and learn a bit about Japanese history and culture. Gaku was a great cycle guide, giving direction in plenty of time, taking us down little back streets, on cycle paths and busy roads. We felt really safe and had lots of fun. The bikes were comfy and easy to ride on this pretty flat route.
My partner and I had an outstanding experience, our guide Gaku has put a lot of thought into this tour, we experienced some of the best sites in Tokyo at the ideal pace. He truly showed us some of the most interesting and local sites you don’t typically see on these types of tours. And doing it by bicycle immersed us in the Tokyo culture. Well worth the money!
Great tour of the highlights of Tokyo. Historical, Temples, Shopping areas, Parks, Waterfront. Goku was an excellent guide and ensured our safety and managed our expectations very well. Highly recommended!
Was amazing ride through Tokyo. Felt very safe but didn’t spend too long in any one place. Fantastic tour/adventure
Tokyo bike tour with Gaku was an absolutely amazing experience! Gaku was the perfect host and he explained everything we needed to know before we set out. There were adequate breaks and even time for a lovely water-view lunch eating food we purchased at a grocery store. I would recommend doing this your second day in Tokyo so you can get a lay of the land. We covered so much territory and it was so fun. Highly recommended!!!
This was a wonderful experience. Our guide, Gaku, was kind, knowledgeable, and easygoing! His tour included both must-see, and lesser known parts of the area. Absolutely would recommend for anyone hoping to get their first glimpse into the city!
My three teens and I had a great ride through Tokyo with Gaku-san. The bikes were excellent - smooth and easy riding. Gaku-san guided us safely through the busy sections. We saw more of Tokyo in a few hours than we would have been able to without bikes. Great ride, great guide.
So thankful to Gaku for shepherding our family of 3 (including our 14 year-old son) through an extraordinary 6.5 hour tour of Tokyo by bike. The tour was perfectly calibrated and paced-incorporating many well known key sites in the city (eg Meiji Jingu, Zojo Ji temples and Metropolitan Government Tower in Shinjuku) as well as a number of 'secret' spots that only locals could share. Gaku is very knowledgeable and a genuinely delightful and skilled guide. We only cycle a small amount at home, so it felt quite bold heading out onto the streets of Tokyo, but with the small group of 5 people it was very well paced and Gaku made sure it was always safe and very relaxing. The route covers a wide area in central Tokyo and is a unique opportunity to cover a lot of ground in the city quickly to get a fantastic overview of the urban Tokyo environment. An unexpected highlight was a visit to one of the 'Tokyo Toilet' locations from Wim Wenders gorgeous film "Perfect Days"....and this tour was just that : a perfect day. Highly recommend Gaku and his team to everyone-don't miss this one!
Great cycling experience, and great to see Tokyo’s main attractions via a bike!
My husband and I just did the bike tour of Tokyo with Gaku. The tour was absolutely awesome! We explored Tokyo from a totally new and fun perspective. I was a little apprehensive at first wondering how comfortable I would feel cycling in Tokyo traffic. Any doubt I had quickly disappeared. Gaku was an excellent guide who mapped a biker-friendly route around Tokyo that goes to both popular and lesser known sites. He made me feel completely comfortable and safe on the road. He’s a knowledgeable guide and did a great job explaining all the different sights we stopped at on our tour. This tour was definitely our Tokyo highlight! Thanks, Gaku!
We had a fantastic experience on this tour! Our guide did an amazing job planning the route – it was perfectly organized and allowed us to see some beautiful spots while enjoying the ride. The pace was comfortable, and every stop felt thoughtfully chosen. What impressed us most was how attentive and considerate the guide was throughout the whole trip. They made sure everyone was safe, comfortable, and enjoying themselves. The explanations and local insights along the way made the experience even more interesting. Overall, it was a very smooth, well-arranged tour, and we truly appreciated the guide’s professionalism and care. Highly recommended! 🌟🚴♂️
We loved this bicycle tour! A great overview of the city, and Gaku is super friendly and knowledgeable about Tokyo and Japanese history generally. The bikes were easy to ride and in good mechanical condition. Highly recommended!
We had an incredible bike tour in Tokyo with Gaku earlier this week! The experience was both fun and fascinating — we covered a lot of ground without ever feeling rushed. Gaku was knowledgeable, engaging, and shared so many interesting details about the city’s history and culture. We saw major landmarks as well as amazing little spots hidden in plain sight that only a local would know about. The route was super time-efficient and perfectly balanced between famous sights and authentic neighborhoods. We absolutely loved it and would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see a deeper, more personal side of Tokyo!
Amazing tour around the city and getting to see local favorites that are missed on the big tours. Loved the sights and all of the details the tour guide shared. The bike tour is very intimate and tailored to smaller groups. Loved the whole tour.
Gaku is thee best bike tour Guide in Tokyo! He is a Professional cyclist who confirms „clear“ with every turn, so no fears you will run in to Cars or pedestrians. He has designed his own 6.5 hour tour thru many neighborhoods in Tokyo, back streets where private unknown shrines are maintained by the neighbors living there. You visit also the main shrines, Temples, high end shopping district, grocery shopping and around the Imperial palace. He is sensational with in depth historical knowledge and his laugh is infectious. You will learn so much about Japanese culture in one bike ride thru Tokyo with Gaku. Hiii!
Guko shared so much about the Japanese culture and Tokyo. It was an absolute pleasure to meet him and spend the day with him.
Gahku was our subaraschi Guide! He is such a professional cyclist always calling out every Turn, „clear“ to be confident no one is coming. He did such a fantastic job. The Route is approximately 17 miles, however it felt more like 8 miles. He is very measured with the changing of the Traffic lights, you go right thru, the Temples, Shrines, backalleys, truly best bike tour in Tokyo. Arigato!
A great way to see Tokyo, both the big sights and the local spots. Gaku was a great guide and I learnt a lot about Tokyo. Strongly recommend!
This was so much fun! Gaku was such a great guide! We went all over the city and he kept us safe and gave us lots of information.
