We had a wonderful food tour with Ryo! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and introduced us to some great Japanese food and local spots. A lovely way to experience Tokyo beyond the usual tourist places. Thank you, Ryo!

This was a wonderful experience. Our guide Ryo did an excellent job not only in selecting very good restaurants for us to try a variety of foods but also in showing us around and providing very interesting information about the area and local customs. We are very happy we did this tour and can’t say enough good things about it. We highly recommend it.
This was one of the best food tours I have ever done in any city. Ryo picked very high quality spots with exceptional food and experience. I highly recommend this tour for the best picks in this area of Tokyo.
Ryo is an awesome tour guide. He personalized the experience for us making it feel extra special. He has also developed strong relationships with the various restaurants so it was a pleasure to meet some of the chefs and learn about the different styles of food. Each restaurant was unique and we wouldn't have discovered them on our own. Highly recommend this tour.
Highly recommend Ryo's tour. Not only did we get to eateries that we would never find ourselves but we also learnt about the culture of modern Tokyo dining out.
I had already done another tour a few years ago, but I recently joined it again, and it was just as enjoyable as I remembered. What really stands out is the guide, Ryo. He is incredibly generous with his knowledge and advice. Beyond the tour itself, he shares a lot of practical tips about Japan, food culture, and how to enjoy the country properly. Some of the advice he gave me back then is still something I use every time I travel to Japan, which says a lot. The tour itself is very well designed: great izakayas, well chosen locations, and a very pleasant pace. Ryo pays real attention to group dynamics, making sure everyone feels comfortable and included. His English is excellent, clear and natural, which makes the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Overall, a high-quality food tour with a passionate and professional guide. I would absolutely recommend it, whether it’s your first time in Tokyo or not.
If you are a foodie and you miss this tour with Rio, you will miss one of the best food experiences of your life. We dined on a variety of authentic Japanese foods, sake and beer as Rio took us to the hidden gems of of Tokyo. We plan to take this tour again during our next visit.
This is an experience that should be enjoyed by all Foodies. Our guide Ryo hand selected each location for the delicacies that they served & their history. You are not just taken to a restaurant & fed, you are guided there with a history lesson & a story of the owners & their dreams. Ryo gave us our 1st lesson in the proper way to eat Sushi to maximize its flavor & pair it with Saki, at Tsukiji Mottainai Project Uoharu. The Nigiri was served as Art & each bite exquisite. Our next stop was Osaka Yakiniku for organ meat cooked table side Hibachi. Ryo knowledge of how to eat each piece & when to enhance with which sauce, took each slice to a higher level. We finished our evening at Ginza Karin. The young female Proprietor has created a little gem, hand selecting all products served & always on a search for unique Saki’s to pair with it. Every dish is created fresh daily with an ever moving menu. She will be a force to be reckoned with in the food industry for years to come. None of our experience would have happened without the research, knowledge & passion put in by our guide Ryo. He is greeted with respect by each owner who appreciate his passion for food & care he gives his clients. We had the best food experience of our lives last night & will be forever grateful that Ryo was our guide.
A great insight into the variety of the food scene in Ginza, our thanks to Ryo and his choice of izakaya staff for a great experience.
We had an excellent food tour with Ryo tonight. We thoroughly enjoyed sampling the food and sake from the three different out of the way places we visited. This is more than a food tour. Ryo guided us through the history and customs behind Japanese food giving us some insight into Japanese culture and cuisine. This was a memorable experience and we highly recommend Ryo’s food tour.
This was a fantastic food experience for us (husband and me). Ryo, our foodie tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the local food in the Ginza area. We would not have discovered the restaurants that we visited if left to our own devices. We would also not have heard the stories about the restaurants or the chefs. Ryo was super friendly and engaging ( and takes great photos!) We were very grateful for his list of recommended restaurants. I only wish we did this tour at the start of our stay in Tokyo instead of towards the end as we only got to one of his recommendations (best Udon noodles I have had!) This is a tour to put on your 'to do' list for sure. (Photos taken by Ryo).
A lovely way to explore izakaya in Ginza and have a delicious dinner along the way. Ryo was great company and chose great venues.
Amazing food tour! You have to book it! Ryo is so much fun and knows his Japanese food. Everything we tried was delicious or 'oishii'! We learnt a lot about food in Tokyo and he even had recommendations for dishes and places to try outside of Tokyo as we are travelling around a bit.
Ryo was not only an amazing guide but also a great conversationalist and dinner companion. His knowledge of the Tokyo food scene is unparalleled. Thank you Ryo from all of us.
If you’re considering a food tour, please book this one!!! This was by far the biggest highlight of our Tokyo leg of Japan. Ryo is incredibly kind, fun, knowledgeable and generous as a guide (and now friend!). We spent an entire evening with him on a private food tour, walking around Ginza and trying foods we never would have ordered or known about as British tourists! He took us to restaurants that aren’t open to public/tourists so we could really experience eating like a local. We’re huge foodies so loved picking his brain about Japanese cuisine and even got some home cooking tips! Ryo, thank you so much for a fabulous evening. Our conversations and fun evening really left a print on our hearts and we will remember it forever! Look forward to one day when our paths cross again. Thank you so much.
We had an amazing food experience with Ryo. His enthusiasm for the local Ginza food scene and traditional local foods made the evening enjoyable and fun. We tried food from local izakayas that we would not have found on our own. It was a very special experience. We would highly recommend this tour.
We had an amazing food experience with Ryo. The unique local food experiences with Ryo’s personal stories and local information made our experience very special. These were experiences that we would not have found on our own. Thank you Ryo and kanpaijapanfoodtours for a very special evening!
Ryu (our host) was nothing short of amazing. His knowledge of “underground” eateries, his hospitality and photography was exceptional.
One of the best food experiences of my life, maybe the best. Certainly a highlight of my trip to Japan. The locations are hidden gems, the food is incredible and unique, and I learned so much. Thank you Ryo!
Great tour. Ryo is nice, trusted and very kind. Food was also delicious. We fully enjoyed this experience. Thank you !!!
Ryo was fantastic, he had great energy and knowledge of the area and cuisine. We would never have found these fantastic eating spots without his insider knowledge. He also sent us a list of places try for the remaining days we are in town.
It was my first time in Tokyo and was lost as to where to go. A friend of mine had recommended we see RYO. It did not disappoint. I would recommend him to anyone, very personable and an all around stand out human. Aside from his character the guy knows where the best spots are. 10/10 food and experience. Will be coming back as soon as I can with my family.
Ryo is a legend. Forget wasting time looking places up this man has the spots AND the food dialed. He is charismatic and speaks English really well with jokes, banter, facts and history to add to the experience. We got the Wagyu beef and tried everything he recommended. Did not disappoint.
One of the best food tours I've done. Was great to see a less touristy side of Tokyo and visit the kind of places where people go to eat after work. I learnt a lot about the different areas of Ginza, and what Japanese food is like at home. And all the food and drinks we had were really tasty. Would definitely recommend.
After doing 4 food tours in Japan and counties around the world, I can say that this experience with Ryo was one of my favorite. Especially comparing to the ones that I did in Osaka and Kyoto - the quality of food shared during this tour through Ginza was of MUCH better quality. In fact each morsel eaten was delicious and I have already shared recommendations for his food tour and the restaurants we went to to local friends and friends/family visiting Tokyo in the future. Thank you Ryo for the great experience and stories of exploring the foods of Ginza with your grandmother growing up! Wishing you much success in your photography and food tour businesses - you are certain to be a success!
If we could give this 10 stars out of 5 we would. FABULOUS evening with Ryo this week. In addition to providing lots of context around food culture in Tokyo, he took us to 3 amazing - and truly hidden - izakaya’s. As he pointed out… the best of the best is either below ground or up a floor or 2; rarely on street level … and was he ever right! We were clearly the only tourists in each spot, and everything he selected for us was delicious - we were stuffed by the end of the evening. He also gave us a lesson on how to find the best quality sake, which we’ve used every meal since. Ryo was smart, funny and super knowledgeable (oh… and he’s actually a pro photographer and took some great shots). Thanks for a fabulous night Ryo!
Awesome service Ryo provides for foreigners. If you think you know Japan.. you don’t… and you should probably have a local show you the real food cuisine the beautiful people of Japan have to offer. You will NOT regret it. Seriously a must considering how confusing it is to navigate let alone find good food. There’s levels to the food game in Japan and he has it down. Thank you!
Wow where to start? Ryo is all the things you are looking for in a guide and a human. He is punctual, knowledgeable, fluent in two languages, funny and most of all kind. He has an amazing taste in setting and flavors that he is eager to share. The places we ate at would be near impossible for a non local to find. Ryo can cater your experience to whatever you wish and is highly flexible. Tokyo can be a daunting place with a lot of hidden verticality. A guide for at least one night is extremely recommended so ryo is your guy! You will not regret it I promise you I have nothing bad to say! Thank you Ryo, looking forward to our next adventure!
Me and a few of my buddies went with Ryo to a bunch of restaurants and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. He’s super enjoyable to be around and easy to talk to. The places he takes you to eat are also amazing and are hard to find on your own. If you are in Tokyo he is a must go. 10/10 experience! It made my trip to Tokyo.
Ryo had made my trip in Tokyo much more memorable with all the hidden places that I would never be able to go on my own. For sure next trip in Tokyo I will reserve him to be my guide again. The Sake Bar experience was the best, thank you Ryo, I had learned a lot more than just drinking 🥰
Super fun got to experience a lot of authentic Japanese food Ryo is Super friendly, awesome guy he showed me a lot of scenery around Tokyo Japan and I for sure wanna go back if you get the chance, hit this guy up before you go, for a rememberable trip
My husband and I had our honeymoon trip in Korea, and decided visit Japan for couple days, we booked with Ryo and it was the best decision!!! It felt like hanging out with your friend while you discover the beauty of Tokyo and its delicious food~ Ryo is a really nice person, easy to communicate, fun and chill... and he is a pro photographer!! So don't worry about taking the best pictures in Tokyo~ So I really recommend his tours 👌
My wife and I booked this tour at the last minute and didn't really expect much since it was only a 4-hour tour but to my surprise, there were numbers of "wow" moments during the tour! Our tour guide, Ryo, spoke perfect English and made the environment very welcoming through his jokes and insights about Ginza. Since I come from Korean culture, raw fish known as sashimi isn't a new type of food but I have to say, the restaurant that Ryo took us served very fresh sashimi along with tasty skewers. We even got some freebies from the restaurant! (Also there are quite a bit of drink options. I recommend drinking some Sake!). The total tour took a bit longer than 4 hours because Ryo made sure we enjoy and take our time every stop and took professional photos of us which we will treasure for life. Thanks Ryo!
Absolutely amazing experience with Ryo! He guided us to countless hidden gems that we would never have discovered on our own. Trusting him completely paid off—we didn't have to spend hours researching, and every place he took us to was fantastic. Highly recommend Ryo to anyone traveling to Japan. Thank you, Ryo!
I got shown a glimpse of real Japan and Japanese food that you’d never find without a guide. Really helps cut thru the touristy aspect. Highly recommend
My wife and I booked a food tour for our Anniversary. We’d never been to Japan before and wanted a local expert to guide us to experience local culture in a way we would never have been able to on our own. Ryo is a great guy and took us to some incredible spots. Since we took his tour, we’ve recommended him to multiple family and friends—everyone agrees the food tour was a highlight of their trips. Keep it up Ryo!
