We learned the history of the temple and Momo did a great job showing us around.
An excellent guide who shares fascinating insights into Japanese culture, traditions, and everyday customs in an engaging, easy-to-understand, and humorous way. Thanks to his stories, you not only gain a deeper understanding of Japan but also discover little details you would never have noticed on your own!
Momo was absolutely wonderful )and handsome ☺️)! He shared so much about Japanese culture and beautifully explained the differences between temples and shrines. He was incredibly sweet, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience so special. We loved learning from him! Highly recommend! ❤️
We were very pleased to join this tour, it was very informative and a pleasent experience. We learned so many interesting facts about Tokio and Japannese culture in general. I would recommend this tour anytime!
It was great having this tour with Tomo, he was great. Recommendation!
We had an amazing experience with Julian as our private tour guide in Tokyo! He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to spend the day with. He gave us great recommendations, shared so much interesting information about Tokyo and Japanese culture, and made sure the day was tailored to what we wanted to see and do. Julian was also really thoughtful and flexible throughout the day, and he made navigating Tokyo feel so easy. We got to see and experience so much more than we would have on our own. We would absolutely recommend Julian to anyone looking for a private guide in Tokyo!
I booked the private tour because I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, and I’m so glad I did. From the beginning, the tour company was wonderful. They reached out to learn about our preferences and dietary restrictions and kept me updated on all the details. The day before our tour, I saw that we had been assigned Ikuto-san as our guide. What a TREAT! Ikuto-san is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also curious, thoughtful, and very aware of the tone and pace of the people he is with. During our tour, I had an unexpected medical incident, and he could not have been more attentive. He immediately adjusted the tour to what I needed and made sure I was comfortable. Honestly, I could book tours with Ikuto-san every day of my visit! He knows the city incredibly well, and because we don’t speak Japanese, he was always ready to step in, help, and translate whenever needed. And then there was my husband’s request for a Speed Racer souvenir. 😊 Of course, Ikuto-san knew exactly where to take us! We had such a wonderful experience and feel very lucky that we were paired with him. Ikuto-san, thank you for taking such good care of us and for making our day so memorable!
Nicely organised time sensitive flexible Knowledge guide Good english speaker Friendly Ended on time as expected
Amazing tour, the tour guide spoke great English and helped us maneuver through the Japanese train system. She informed us about the Japanese customs and curiosities which was very helpful. I was recommend any foreigner visiting for the first time to take this tour before exploring Japan on your own.
We are visiting Japan from Los Angeles. We booked a private tour of Tokyo through Viator for our first day in Japan. Izumi Ota met us at our hotel lobby right at the appointed time. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and informative guide, and he speaks beautiful English. Izumi showed us how to use the train system (important) as he guided us to many beautiful and and interesting attractions throughout the city. Everywhere we went, he explained much of the historical and cultural significance of Tokyo. Plus, he added stops for delicious food along the way! Very important. My husband and I highly recommend asking for Izumi Ota for an enjoyable day tour of Tokyo.
Viator, please check our past activities through you. We have done countless trips with you, all over the world for many years. In a nutshell this was the absolute worst! First of all, to represent this as an English speaking guide is a stretch. He was a 20 year old kid who was a student of the school that the owner of the tour company graduated from. His English was extremely poor, hard to understand because of the accent, but also could not put Japanese words/terms into English. The guide was totally inexperienced, could not really call a Guide, college intern would be a better term. He absolutely knew nothing about the attractions, starting with what we would consider one of Tokyo’s most prominent, the imperial palace/gardens. We asked him where we should go in the garden and he was absolutely clueless. Went to the map and to his phone, had no stories about history or culture. I could go on with examples, but this is indicative of how the whole tour went. My wife and I were referring constantly to AI, I am positive we could’ve got a better self tour out of chat gpt! And his “guide etiquette” was horrendous. Normally when we have a private guide, he/she is looking out for us making sure we’re getting on on the train, finding a seat, holding the door, guiding us through the crowds, the small things. He did none of that, many times he was walking ahead of us. Viator, this is unacceptable, way below your standards of what we have experienced in our many many tours before. What a waste of money…
A great days tour very informative and friendly guide who let us set the pace, visited all the main sites that we wanted to see would definitely recommend
Kaisei was absolutely perfect! My tour was a dream come true. As a retired college professor, I enjoyed being guided by this young, smart, kind, college student. And my tour was tailored perfectly to my interests since by lucky chance we were at Shinto temple in time to see a live performance of Gagaku!!! Then the presence at a Buddhist temple to see a fire ceremony was equally spectacular. Kaisei chose a perfect lunch place with delicious ramen. I was not thrilled with Japanese food until I ate at this restaurant. Kaisei was very knowledgeable and provided me with interesting information throughout the tour. I am an older woman on my own for this trip and Kaisei was genuinely concerned that I knew how to ride the train back to my hotel at end of tour, he messaged me just to be certain. I highly recommend him as an outstanding tour guide!
Experience was exceptional, our guide Rimu arrived on time and took time to ask if we wanted to make any changes. He was flexible when we wanted to make changes. We had a great time and felt like we were hanging out with a friend. Very professional and lots of fun.
Had a great day with Akira our guide. We opted for the public transport and walking tour which for us was excellent and meant we covered lots of areas. Akira was friendly and shared his knowledge of his home city, taking us to places we would never have found on our own
We had a wonderful tour guide, Kosuke Nagao. He was very knowledgeable, incredibly kind, and formulated the itinerary of the day to what we were interested in. It made the tour feel very personal and feel very full. We ended on a very peaceful note and he dropped us exactly where we wanted to go. Plus he recommends great food and snacks! Didn’t steer us wrong once!
We enjoyed our private tour with Ikuto. He was prompt, knowledgeable, and very kind. Highly recommend using this tour!
We so enjoyed our custom tour with Marin! Her enthusiasm and warm demeanor made our six hours together go quickly. Having a private tour that focused on our interests (gardens, shrines, temples), as well as a fun walk through the Outer Fish Market and a delicious lunch in a tourist-free place we’d never have found on our own, made for a really wonderful day.
The tour operator communicated with us, letting us k ow what to expect and asking for feedback on their initial itinerary. They were very flexible and easy to work with. The tour guide was also great to work with, friendly, knowledgeable and flexible. We really enjoyed the tour and getting to k ow more about Tokyo.
Atsuto did a good job combining his list of things worth seeing with my personal list. We covered a lot of ground, visiting several neighborhoods, and learning about each.
Good comms before meeting and was asked for any particular places to cover. Our guide Ikuto looked after our needs all day and took us to some great attractions. It was very interesting listening to some of the customs. Ikuto was very polite and respectful. A charming young man. Thankyou
Our guide Akira was friendly and very flexible. He changed our schedule as needed and accommodated all of our requests. Highly recommend if you want personalized service.
Zenji guide was excellent and dedicated
Our tour guide did a great job getting us around the city. She did her best to show us as much as possible in the time we had. Great intro to Tokyo.
Our guide Shuya was a nice young gentleman but he did not provide enough history or explanation as we were traveling from one site to another. He seemed to look up information on his phone every time we asked him a question. We paid $110/pp for 4 hours and the best takeaway was how he helped us figure out how to use the subway system. Having been on many similar guided tours in other counties this tour was light on insights - not just in respect of the main sights we visited but also more broadly on life and Japanese Society. For the amount we paid this was a disappointing experience.
A good walking tour to explore Tokyo via the subway , including the major tourist locations and neighborhoods
Lots of ground covered- lots of walking. Very customizable. Atsuto adjusted our stops according to our preferences. He was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend the day with. Would recommend. Happily used the subway to get around and experience different parts of the city. The Bishins, Montreal
Extremely disappointing experience - I would not recommend this private Tokyo tour. We booked a 6-hour private tour expecting an experienced guide who could help us understand Tokyo, plan the day efficiently, answer questions, recommend food and shopping, and make the most of our limited time in the city. Instead, our guide told us that he had only become certified in October and that we were essentially his first tour. Unfortunately, that lack of experience showed throughout the entire day. There appeared to be no meaningful preparation or itinerary. The guide was repeatedly using Google to figure out where to take us, how to get there, and what to do next. When we asked questions about Tokyo, restaurants, shopping, attractions, or recommendations, he often did not know the answers. We ended up searching for places ourselves and telling him where we wanted to go. That completely defeats the purpose of paying for a private guided tour. We lost a significant part of our limited time in Tokyo trying to work out the plan ourselves, missed things we had hoped to see, and learned very little about the places we actually visited. I want to be fair about one thing: the guide himself was polite, sincere, and clearly trying very hard. This review is not about his attitude or effort. The problem is that the tour company assigned a brand-new, inexperienced guide to a paid private tour without the level of preparation, knowledge, or support that customers should reasonably expect. What made the experience even more disappointing was the company’s response afterward. We explained the situation in detail and requested a refund because the service delivered was materially different from what we believed we had purchased. The request was declined. A private guide should add knowledge, planning, local insight, and value that a visitor cannot easily obtain by simply searching Google. In our case, we ended up doing much of that work ourselves while paying for a six-hour guided experience. For us, this was one of the most disappointing experiences of our Tokyo trip and not worth the money we paid.

Ikuto was great! Showed up on time at our hotel and gave us a great tour designed around our interests. I would highly recommend Ikuto. His English was good and he took us to a great sushi place for lunch! Claudia
Great tour with a wonderful guide named Ikuto. He showed us beautiful parts of Tokyo, led us through the maze of trains expertly, found a great sushi restaurant for lunch, and shared the history of some gorgeous temples and shrines! I’d refer friends to Ikuto in a heartbeat. Thank you Ikuto!
Excellent custom itinerary, guide and value. Our guide Rino was very knowledgeable, pleasant and accommodating. She tailored the tour to our interests and pace, everything you want from a custom tour. Highly recommend!
Fabulous tour, our tour guide created the perfect tour for us. Kasei was incredibly knowledgeable and educated us on Japanese culture and history. I highly recommend this customized private tour. The sushi restaurant we were taken to was amazing! Wonderfully fun day.
Our guide, Kosuke, was a wonderful young man. He was punctual, personable, full of good information and very flexible with our itinerary. We packed a lot into our 8 hours. Kosuke has an excellent command of English. It was a 20,000 step day, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We traveled by subway between sights giving us a chance to sit and relax. It was a very fun day despite the rain. This tour is definitely to be recommended.
We both thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Our guide, Izumi, was really wonderful taking us to a number of significant sights, both of cultural and personal interest. Izumi was also very generous with his knowledge of Japanese etiquette and the Tokyo rail system which has assisted us during the remainder of our stay. We highly recommend Izumi as a guide.
Ikuto was very friendly and informative about Japanese culture. Loved the fried potatoes and the visit to Cafe Reissue for lattes with our pet's picture!
We did a four hour private tour with Ikuto as our guide. He was a pleasure to work with — friendly and informative. He changed our original itinerary for the better. It was a great first day in Tokyo!!
Ikuto is Amazing! We enjoyed the day!! Thank you!
Ikuto was a very friendly and knowledgeable person. He thought us all about Japanese culture and seemed to have a very easy to understand answer for every question we had.
Our guide was very helpful and showed us sights we wouldn’t be able to see on our own. Well worth the money
We had the lovely Hana as our tour guide, and she truly exceeded all our expectations! From start to finish, Hana went above and beyond to make our experience so special. She was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain the history, culture and significance of all the places we visited, which made the tour even more interesting and memorable. Hana listened to everything we wanted to see and made sure we visited all the places on our list. She also took us to a traditional sushi restaurant, which was absolutely delicious and a wonderful experience. Her friendly nature, thoughtfulness and attention to detail made us feel so welcome and comfortable throughout the day. She was more than just a tour guide; she made our time in Japan truly special by sharing her knowledge and love for her country with us. We are so grateful to Hana for making our day such a wonderful experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Japan. Thank you, Hana, for a fantastic and unforgettable day! ❤️
Mai was so helpful! We signed up for a pre-described 4-hour tour, but in point of fact, we hadn't done sufficient research on our own to be specific about what we wanted to do on this, our first morning in Japan. As we talked, it became clear that one of the things we were most concerned about was figuring out how to navigate the transportation system. Mai was graceful and tactful in helping us figure out how best to use our scarce time with her -- which turned out to be visiting 3 iconic sites, by walking a lot and jumping on various trains to transport us to 3 disparate locations. Along with way, she was also very helpful as a tutor -- how to use Suica card, how to manage transportation w/ use of Google maps, using google translate -- and what about that Imperial Palace!
Akira is absolutely the best guide we have had on any trip like this. He is friendly, knowledgeable, fun to be with, and gave us a great experience. We could not have asked for a better day. We highly recommend him to anyone who wants to see Tokyo.
This is a good way to get a quick overview of several Tokyo highlights using and learning the public transportation system. Good luck without a guide if it’s your first time.!!! I suggest skipping the anime and add some historical cultural unless you want to experience current culture. Our young guide (21) Ikuto was very polite and spoke good English. He was able to share a youthful perspective with some good historical facts added.
We had a great experience with Yukino as our guide for this tour! She was very knowledgeable about how to get around the city (super helpful as it was our first day in Tokyo)! She also provided the perfect combination of historical context and customary rituals to observe at the temples and shrines. We had delicious snacks along the way with her recommendations. And she left us with an amazing list of other places to see and eat at for the remainder of our trip. Highly recommend this private tour and Yukino!
My husband and I booked a private 6 hour tour of Tokyo (walking & public transport) and Lax was our guide for the day. He was absolutely fantastic. We were asked in advance which sights we wanted to visit, and Lax was able to incorporate almost all of them within the timescale, and included several spots that we would never have found on our own. Lax was so knowledgeable and was able to tell us about the culture and history of each place we visited. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone, and consider yourselves very lucky if Lax is your guide.
A must do experience especially right when you get to Tokyo! Worth the money and then some- we did the 6 hour tour.
Had a great time. Juri was a great guide and couldn’t do enough for us. You can pick things to do and then go from there.
Fabulous day. Saw so many wonderful sites and had an amazing experience. Yukino was truly a superb guide which made the day even more enjoyable and memorable.
