Its really fun and you can be creative with the process. There are only 3 woods which are free and the upgraded wood is a lot extra but very nice.

This chopsticks making class was so much fun. It's interesting to learn different types of wood. As well as the apparatus that's used to make it. Every step was supported by the Senseis guiding us. The end product was a beautiful pair of chopsticks to bring home.

It was a great experience and good for the whole family. The staff was helpful. We have a nice keepsake to take home.
This is far from the best way to experience real Japan. The idea of making chopsticks is great and could be a lot of fun, but this specific workshop lacks a lot of the basics. We arrived to find a cosy little space, but with barely any room to leave our coats. We were quickly shown a box of wood and asked to pick one, where only three options were included in the class price and all others carried an extra fee (between 2,500 and 8,000 yen). As you’d expect, the nicer woods you actually want are the more expensive ones. We were then handed the tools and given a very basic explanation of how to use them, about 1-2 minutes at most, and told to crack on. I finished the first step in under 5 minutes while my partner took around 10. We then waited about 10 minutes to be explained the second step, which also took around 5 minutes, then waited another 10-15 minutes for the engraving to be done. That’s an extra 1,000 yen, by the way, and you can’t do it yourselves as it happens behind a curtain by someone else, so you don’t even see the process. At the end we were just presented with a card machine to pay for the extras and handed a small basic plastic container for our chopsticks. We left feeling like we’d walked into a classic tourist trap, and with the sense that a lot could be done better by the owners. A few suggestions: give people some background on chopsticks and how they’re made. People generally love historical context. Tell them the story of the workshop and how you got into this. Pay more attention to the people in the class, give tips while they work, or simply offer some encouragement. This is a class, not a space rental, so people expect support and a human presence throughout. The price is already on the high side, so adding extra fees for something as simple as engraving is a red flag. Make it an experience where people connect with the tradition and actually understand it, that’s how you honour it. A cup of tea is one of the cheapest things you can offer, and it’s such a Japanese thing to do. People will feel far more welcome for it.
Great experience. Easy to Follow instructions and everything provided.
Loved the Chopstick crafting activity. The artisan was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this memorable experience.
We had a great time making our own chopsticks! Tomo and her apprentice are so nice and really made the experience very special. We will often think back to this day, especially when we’re eating with our chopsticks from home :) Thank you Tomo, greetings from The Netherlands!
It was an inviting and fun experience. Tomo was our teacher for the session. She was lovely, helpful, and informative. She showed us the steps and helped us when we were stuck. Honestly this was such a fun little experience! And now both my wife and me will have our own made chopsticks to use! Thank you Tomo for a great experience.
I went alone to have a unique experience and found what I was looking for. Tomo was very kind and professional guiding me through all the necessary steps. In the end I returned home with a nice and unique pair of chopsticks engraved with our family name.
Amazing! Tomo was fantastic. Explained everything to us and made it so enjoyable.
