Difficult to find the site. Well worth it. Some history of calligraphy. Then practice using brush on Kanji characters. Make your own scroll and signed and stamped. So well organized. Great little arts center. Taking home a great memory and souvenier. Teacher excellent. And excellent English.

This calligraphy class was an awesome experience and so much more than I expected! I learned not only the art of Japanese calligraphy, but also how it can support mental and physical well-being through focus, breathing, posture, and intentional movement. I loved learning about calligraphy’s Chinese origins, how it evolved within Japanese culture, and that it is still a required subject for students in primary and junior high school. We also learned fascinating traditions, like orange ink being reserved for teachers and the traditional process of making black ink by hand. My favorite part was learning how to write my name in Japanese and creating my own final piece. I chose “Purpose of Life” in Japanese and added my name—a piece I’ll proudly hang in my home as a reminder of this experience. Such a meaningful and immersive way to experience Japanese culture. Definitely recommend!

I did the calligraphy course with instructor Mei. She explained the Japanese writing and the three alphabets as well as the importance of Calligraphy in Japanese culture, before practicing how to write the strokes correctly and letting me choose a phrase I wanted to write. Thanks to her I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. It was a great experience and unlike other Calligraphy classes I tried you even get to learn how to do the strokes so that they look beautiful. I can only recommend this experience

I loved learning about the history of calligraphy and writing simple phrases. I loved the meaning of the words/activity and how it reminds you to be present in the moment. The teacher was fantastic; passionate about sharing her culture with us, patient and attentive as we went and ever so encouraging. Most of all, I loved going home with a little souvenir. It was a unique experience. Meiko was an exceptional instructor who passed on thr history, beauty, affection and culture of the calligraphy's wonderful art, discipline and passion. The hands on part was amazing as we had plenty of time to practice before we finish our works. Truly an unforgettable experience with great keepsakes of this course.

This 90 minute experience is an oasis of calm reflection in amongst the crazy energy of Tokyo! Yoshie was a fabulous teacher, providing us the history of Japanese calligraphy packed with interesting facts which the kids loved. The practical part of the workshop is just beautiful and relaxing. We each chose a special word to write on our canvas and learnt how to write our names. The end results are mini masterpieces to take home and hang on our walls. We really loved this experience. We had a wonderful time learning calligraphy with Mieko! First, we learned about the history of Japanese letters and writing, and then we were guided through practicing different strokes. Then, with Mieko’s help, we built up to making a decorative piece for our home. Mieko was very patient with us as we kept practicing some of the trickier sections! Would definitely recommend if you’re in Tokyo to get a unique souvenir to treasure forever!

Kiyo is an excellent teacher and her patience was invaluable as we learned Japanese characters for the first time. She allowed extra time for us and applauded when we did well, explaining the culture, philosophy and brushstrokes.

I booked a place on the workshop at the last minute and I’m so glad I did. The workshop leader, Yoshi, was brilliant! She gave us a short but really clear introduction to the three scripts and the practice of calligraphy then set us off on practice of our own. She was a really supportive teacher giving all 3 of us in the class lots of individualised help and attention. And to cap it all, we each ended up with our own works of calligraphic art. Highly recommended!!

We had an amazing relaxing time with Mei. If you need some peace away from crazy Tokyo then come here. She has so much knowledge of Japanese calligraphy and is great at explaining and guiding you. After an hour of practicing our chosen words we got to make our final piece on a scroll. Mei designed our name in Japanese characters so we could add it to our final piece. 10/10 would recommend

It will remain one of the highlights of our time in Japan.

We had a wonderful time with Mei. She told us a lot about the history of the development of the language, which was very fascinating. She encourage us in the whole process of trying to do our calligraphy.
