The energy was top level the whole time. The guide explained the history and prepared us well to understand the performance. GREATLY recommend for anyone who likes live performances or wants to try one out. The crowd and performers all showed a lot of love.

Amazing surprise! Hugely talented and incredibly charismatic, energetic and highly engaging. I feel lucky to have found this show spontaneously! X
Greatest show in Tokyo!! Hands down
Wonderful experience and the performance was amazing, the guide was super informative and helpful. Well worth it.
It was such a great experience. I would highly recommend checking this out
A define great experience in Japan. An almost lost art form. Will not disappoint.
Fantastic experience and a great experience in Japan.
I did a walking mystery tour hosted by the Asakusa Mokubakan Theatre and it was quite fun!
Abosoutely fantastic! A must see!
Guides were helpful and knowledgeable, show was great and engaged with the audience!
We had a really great time at the show! We went to the 7 PM show. Our guide was super informative before the show started to give us some background to the history of this type of theater. The performance was extremely interactive and energetic. The theater was packed with locals and since the show changes daily, there are many repeat visitors. Seating is a little tight. But there is not a bad seat in the house!
Our “on stage” experience at the Kiryuza Koikawa Gekidan Theater was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. Wearing Kabuki kimonos—and Anita’s special Kabuki make-up—made the experience unforgettable. Performing under the bright lights while learning to use the fan and Japanese sword was truly unique. The theater staff were incredibly supportive, cheering us on as we performed. Our interpreter, Janine, was excellent in assisting Zacho, the Kabuki Master, as he applied Anita’s make-up and taught us the fan and sword. We highly recommend this cultural experience and will treasure it for many years.
It was an amazing experience - getting to know a very colourful piece of Japanese culture. We book through GeYourGuide and our guide Michiko was so attentive and gave us an introduction and lots of explanations about what was happening on the stage. Thank you!
Janine was a wonderful host and guide.
Amazone expérience, had an Amazon guide and the show was excellent, so poetic !!
It was my first time seeing this kind of Japanese theater performance and I was absolutely fascinated. The atmosphere was incredible from start to finish. The energy, passion, and enthusiasm of both the performers and the audience made the experience truly special. The actors were highly professional, talented, and captivating on stage. You could feel how much the audience loved and supported them, which created a warm and exciting atmosphere. I can wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone visiting Japan. It was a wonderful cultural experience, great fun and one of the highlights of my trip. I would definitely go again.
This was such a unique, fun experience and I’m so glad I found it! Michiko was amazing and I felt so welcomed, and she did such a good job explaining the whole show. The energy was electric!!
Did a workshop with one of their performers it was great. They taught me a dance with a sensu and one with a katana. Afterwards we watched a taishu engeki performance. I highly recommend it.
Amazing experience, our guide, I am so sorry but I forgot her name. But she was amazing. Explained everything and translated everything they said. She was very helpful through the whole show and before the show. Explained the dances and the music. Will highly recommend her and this place to family and friends
Certainly an interesting experience! Worth the visit... great performances my all!
Amazing night. Great dancing and lovely to experience Japanese culture. Even if you don’t speak Japanese lots of fun
It was great!! All the performers are great
A must do enjoy a different and fun night in Japan
It was an incredibly entertaining and fun experience! I'd recommend to everyone who wants to experience a bit of a fancy styled theater show. Amazing dancing performances with a lot of heart.
I enjoy the show. The actors are very entertaining to the audience. I like it so much.
It's a very fun and enjoyable experience. It was my first time seeing Taishu Engeki. it's a nice change from the typical things you do in Tokyo and if you are interested in some theater you should take a look.
A truly unique Japanese cultural experience. We booked tickets through Klook which included English speaking guides and came at intermission for just the dance portion of the show. The people in our group were the only non Japanese people in the theater. It was really fun to get an experience that is not on the radar of average tourists. The dance performances were super fun and the costumes and makeup were stunning. The performers also come into the audience a lot and there are options for audience participation if you're someone who likes to participate. The most interesting thing about Taishu Engeki is that no 2 performances are the same! So you could go to multiple shows and get a different experience each time! This is a truly one of a kind experience that you do not want to miss!
Edgar and anthonia were so good in helping us
Had an amazing experience! You could really see how passionate our teacher was and how eager she was to share Japanese culture with us. The show at the end was absolutely incredible too. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Japan. The Asakusa location is also very convenient, close to major tourist attractions!
It was unique experience somewhere between tradition and modernity. Taishū Engeki is a parade of colors, elegance, magnificence and panache. It's a type of theater that truly deserves to be better known. I highly recommemd it to all fans of Japan.
Such a fun and unique experience that you can only have here in Japan. If you want to experience real Japanese culture, this is the place to go! It’s an old-style theater with sword and fan artistry performed at the highest level. You might even get the chance to try some of the moves yourself (they make it look easy, but it’s harder than it seems.) Highly recommended for your next trip to Tokyo!
This experience was unlike anything else I’ve done. We started with a sword and fan while dressed in kimono, such wonderful way to experience Japanese culture and learn something new. I went with a friend, and we had so much fun that we’d love to do it again. The show afterwards left us speechless. The theatre, the audience, and the actors on stage created an atmosphere that felt truly authentic. Most of the audience were Japanese fans of the performers, and you could really feel their excitement. A beautiful and memorable experience, I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo!
I really enjoyed the show. I had a very good time over there. On top of that no japanese needed. I got to know more about Japanese culture. Overall it was very nice experience for me
We almost went to a museum and ended up going to this show and we are so happy we went! Such a fun cultural experience and our guides mitchiko and Andy were so kind :)
Absolutely a must go experience. Loved it!!! If you are in Tokyo, go go go!! We had the best time doing the tour and going to the dance show
A great blend of historical and modern dance and music. The audience was very engaged and enthusiastic about the performers.
Wonderful show great acting Very wonderful custom great guide that explained the tradition (Tim) Really enjoyed it Loved the expressions and music and getting audience excited
I had the chance to experience traditional theater costumes and dance, followed by watching an actual performance. The actors gave very kind and detailed guidance, along with clear cultural explanations. It was a truly meaningful experience — rich in culture yet relaxed and easy to enjoy. I’d love to do it again myself and strongly recommend it to others!
Really good experience. Sensei was really kind and helpful, would definitely go again! Highly recommend anyone to experience this Japanese theatre experience if you are ever in Japan or Asakusa.
Fun with friends, exciting show, immersive, loud, close and personal. 3 Hours well spend and at a reasonable price too.
During our last night in Tokyo we have vidíte the performance. What a better way to finish our stay in Tokyo. We have received an excellent tour, brief history of the theatre and performance group and the we have seen the show. If you’re looking for something extra, try this. You will not be disappointed.
The workshop was informative and everybody was very friendly and helpful. the kimonos were beautiful! The show was very entertaining and the performers are very talented. Plus the vibe was very nice and very welcoming
It was such a great experience! And everyone was so polite and kind. had so much fun! They even gave us water bottles :D For the Thurst after dancing haha. The theater was the cherry on top. I did not expect that it was amazinggg! Bring time: the program takes a while (2-3h) In total we were 6-7 people engaging there. But idk maybe they take up to 10 sometimes. Still small group tho. Was pleasent. This is good for people who would like to combine an elegant Kimono with a fan and sword dance. (thats what we did) U need patients for learning the choreos and u can also perform them infront of your group! And this experience is also good for people who wants to have insights about the theater and their performance which is still from the edo times! After that, u can see the sensoji temple because its right there at the theater. Go there, was something different and rly refreshing! The other side of japan and their people<3
The whole team was very accommodating and nice. I felt welcome the moment i walked in. The kimonos were a great addition to the whole vibe. We were instructed by an actual theater performer and were able to get all our questions answered before the show. I went alone and still had a really fun time with all of the other people attending. I would definitely do this again it was a great experience :)
It was a wonderful experience! We got dressed up in beautiful kimonos and learned a short fan and katana choreography from a very talented theater actress! We laughed a lot and had a lot of fun.
I took part in their Taishu Engeki experience program. It was awesome!! I felt so pretty being dressed up in the Kimono and dancing with the Fan and Katana! I had so much fun! I've never heard about Taishu Engeki before. It was fascinating to learn about it! I really felt immersed in the taishu engeki culture, and it felt like I discovered something really unique and rare! Also, watching the professional performers on stage was so cool!! I had so much fun!!
Wonderful experience, the show was very interesting! The performers are very talented, especially knowing that there are two shows per day. I highly recommend it.
Learning to dance with a fan and a sword was quite an experience. Thank you very much. my daughter and I loved it, I recommend
