This was a very fun tour with Shimon. We learned a lot about the dark history of Tokyo and saw places we would not have found otherwise.

Itinerary
Meet your local guide at the statue of Hachiko, the loyal dog who waited at Shibuya Station every day for ten years after his master died. His story opens the evening with a value Japan has long cherished: loyalty that doesn't end with death. Keep him in mind. He returns later tonight.
Cross the world's busiest intersection together, where up to 3,000 people may cross at once. Your guide explains how Shibuya got its name from the valley beneath your feet, before the group leaves the crowds behind for the backstreets.
Step off the tourist map into Shibuya's oldest nightlife quarter, a maze of tiny bars and old buildings most visitors walk straight past. Your guide shares how this hidden corner changed from a geisha district into what it is today, and introduces a small shrine guarded by stone foxes that still stands quietly between the buildings.
Cross a dark bridge into one of Japan's oldest public cemeteries, opened in 1874, where about 135,000 people rest. On the way, hear what Japanese Buddhism says happens after we die, and a ghost story Tokyo taxi drivers still tell. Inside, find Hachiko again: a monument to him stands beside his master's grave. We walk quietly and stay on the paved paths.
Visit the grave of Okubo Toshimichi, one of the founders of modern Japan. Born a samurai, he helped bring the samurai class to an end and was assassinated in 1878 by men from that same world. His grave, marked by a stone torii gate, shows how Japan honors its leaders. Your guide will invite you to share your own view.
On the way to the cemetery, we pass a neighborhood elementary school while your guide tells the story of Hanako-san, a ghost legend almost every Japanese child grows up with. The legend is told in schools across Japan and is not about this school. Out of respect for the local community, we do not stop or take photos here.

Our tour guide, Takanori, called Nori, was very familiar with Shibuya and the neighboring areas. He took us to alleys, a shrine, and a luxurious neighborhood with a history of total devastation that we never would have seen or known about without the tour. Along the way he shared the history, religious beliefs, and current atmosphere of Shibuya while telling some pretty creepy stories about people's experiences here. Toward the end, we paid a visit to a huge old cemetery. Our tour guide was comfortable to be with and fun to listen to. At the end of the tour Nori went out of his way to make sure we found our way back to our hotel. This tour involves a lot of walking, and some of the areas are inclines so guests should discuss any concerns they have about walking with the company.
The guide was trying his best to entertain us between the cool stories. The experience itself was nice, but it's definitely not worth 60$! I would pay 15 maybe 20$ per person for this.
It was a briliant experience. I would recommend it to everyone visitng Tokyo. Amazing places shown which we couldn't have discovered on our own.
I would probably not call it a ghost tour — it’s much more of a dark history tour. We actually enjoyed it and learnt a lot. Shimon shared stories we would have never known, with an honesty that felt very real, and we really appreciated that. There is a lot of walking and a few train trips, so definitely have your Suica or Pasmo ready. Overall, it was a unique experience — just good to know it’s more about history, truth, and Tokyo’s darker past than jump‑scares or theatrics.
You are expected to pay for your own train fare from Shibuya to the cemetry. Guide was nice but it was a disappointing experience and a waste of money. I had an issue with the booking and was thankful I booked with Viator. They stepped in to fix tge issue when they company were being awful.
Disappointing and misleading — not what was advertised We booked the Tokyo: Ghost and Dark Tales, Urban Legends & Cemetery Night Tour expecting a genuinely eerie, spine-chilling evening of paranormal lore and urban legends. Unfortunately, it fell completely flat and felt like a massive letdown, especially compared to ghost and dark history tours we have taken in other major cities. Lacked Atmosphere and Scares: The tour was completely devoid of suspense, ghost stories, or chilling urban legends for nearly the entire duration. Rather than diving into dark folklore, supernatural encounters, or macabre historical events, the narrative felt more like a generic city walking tour with random trivia. Rushed Cemetery Visit: The only part of the tour that remotely matched the title was a rushed 15 minutes spent in a cemetery at the very end. By that point, it felt like an afterthought tacked on just to justify the tour's name. Mismatched Content: To be fair, the guide was polite and shared some interesting, knowledgeable facts about Tokyo's general history and culture. However, that is not what anyone signs up or pays for on a dedicated "Dark Tales and Urban Legends" tour. If you are looking for an immersive, atmospheric ghost tour with actual chills and deep dives into Tokyo's haunting legends, this is definitely not it. The concept has potential, but the execution needs a serious overhaul. Would not recommend.
One of the best experience I had in Tokyo! Mitsuki our guide was just perfect and made our experience so good! I highly recommend the tour 💯 thanks again 🙏
Fun and very insightful tour. Great way for us to experience our Tokyo trip and highly recommend it. The guides Shimon, Erika , and Uta are great and made sure to make everyone feel comfortable.
Shimon our guide was super friendly and gave good meeting instructions. He told us some interesting stories about the area of Shibuya in olden times and how it was controlled by the mafia at one time. Unfortunately our tour was interrupted by torrential rain but Shimon was kind enough to organise us a taxi to get to the cemetery to save any further walking and us getting soaked. The cemetery was intriguing at night and the size of some of the grave sites is impressive and Shimon was able to tell us about the history of certain families and individuals buried their and how death, funerals and burial are handled in Japan which was interesting and different to our western culture. The only thing we would have liked more of is ghost/scary tales - whilst the stops were interesting we were expecting a slightly higher ‘scare factor’ from the tours title. I gave Shimon this feedback at the end of the tour and he took it on board and will review for future participants.
This is a hard review to write because our guide was very lovely and friendly. However, the tour we got wasn't what was advertised nor what was indicated in other glowing reviews. We met up with the guide at 7.30pm and we started walking towards the cemetery. Apart from telling us which wards we were moving into and the names of some streets not much information was given. About half an hour in I asked where the first story would get told. We were told when we got to the cemetery. We then continued for another 1/2 hour. I was wondering why we didnt begin closer to the cemetery at this point. We got to the cemetery and recieved two ghost stories(not local stories) back to back in the space of maybe 5 or 10 minutes. And that was it for the stories we were told on the tour. We were then guided through the cemetery in the dark and the guide kept being surprised by what she found or unable to give us more information because she couldn't read the gravestones in the dark. She even joked she really needs to visit the cemetery more often. At this point she walked us down to some trendier sections of Tokyo and explained some of the wards and told us about some sites or resteraunts to come back and visit in the day. But we really didn't get any more stories. I tried to make the most of it and ask some questions- some of which she could answer. When we said goodbye we were handed some ai generated comics of the two ghost stories we were told and wished her fairwell. All in all, I was rather dissapointed and for the cost of the tour I had expected more of what was advertised. I really don't like writing negative reviews especially given how nice the guide was, however I feel this review needs to be written.
Haru was an amazing tour guide and we had so much fun. We really enjoyed walking around Shibuya and the cemetery just outside the city. I would strongly recommend this tour and Haru is a great person to lead the way.
Erika was a great guide who made us feel super welcome and cared for, and told us a lot about Japanese culture! Definitely worth the trip, loved it!! :)
It was so much fun! The guide was knowledgeable and funny to be around! Thank you Erika!
Special guy and interesting storytelling!
Very fun and informative! Learned lots about Japan. Very nice people and good tour.
Honestly, the best thing we did in Tokyo. The cemetery at night was genuinely eerie, and our guide, Ken, knew every dark secret of the area. 10/10!
A really fun way to explore the area at night. The guide was super engaging and the dark history stories were fascinating. Highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes!
Learned more about Japanese folklore in 2 hours than did in a week of museums. Cool and creepy lol
It rained during our tour, which actually made the atmosphere even better. The team was great at keeping us updated via WhatsApp.
Was very terrific experience! Very interactive and welcoming group! The tours are very niche and shows a side of Tokyo that is often overlooked!
Great tour! I learned so much about the city and it was a good way to explore unfamiliar areas. Haru was very knowledgeable and even helped us find our train back to our hotel afterwards.
Haru was fantastic, he was able to engage with us beyond the tour’s main topics of conversations. We learnt so much through conversations with each other and the other participants when chatting between locations.
This was a very fun and beginner-friendly walk through Shibuya after dark, learning about its post-war history as a crime hub, before taking a long walk to Aoyama Cemetary in Minato for a quiet stroll through its centre. Our guide Haru was friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. We had a great time!
Fun tour. Learned a lot and really enjoyed walking around the area.
A great way to get to know local areas and hidden gems in shibuya with interesting history and back stories. The ghost stories were spooky and added to the tour atmosphere. Amy the guide was excellent! Very friendly, provided a lot of cultural context and was happy to answer every question.
So fun hearing about the dark history of Japan! Our tour guides were very knowledgeable and very friendly!
I enjoyed the 2 hour walking tour and the tour guide was super friendly!
Had a really great time on this tour with Amy! She was super knowledgeable and explained everything in a really interesting and easy-to-understand way. I liked how the tour showed both the bright and lively side of Shibuya, but also its darker history with stories about the yakuza and Japanese ghosts/yokai. The 2-hour walk went by really fast because it was so engaging, and Amy was happy to answer questions throughout the tour. Ending at the sacred cemetery was also a really cool and memorable way to finish the experience.
This tour was interesting and unique. The local guide was super knowledgeable and explained everything very well. The story of japanese ghost and yokai were really engaging. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Eimi was our guide and she explained each area she brought us to in detail. We walked around Tokyo at night and learnt about the city's dark history and culture through the lens of a local. Tour ends with a walk through Aoyama cemetery. We walked quite a fair bit, so it's the perfect post-dinner activity. Definitely an insightful experience to remember.
Amy was a great guide. She brought us through many different parts and showed us the darker history behind the areas we went to and was very knowledgeable!
Friendly and knowledgeable tour guide
This tour showed me a completely different side of Tokyo. Walking away from the bright lights of Shibuya into the city’s quieter, shadowy corners felt both eerie and fascinating. The stories shared along the way were captivating, and the time spent at Aoyama Cemetery was especially memorable. Our guide was an excellent storyteller, which made the whole experience even more immersive. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something unique in Tokyo.
My family and I had such an amazing time on this 2-hour walking tour through Tokyo at night. Our local guide was incredibly knowledgeable, explaining everything clearly and in depth—from Shibuya’s bright and lively streets to its darker history involving the yakuza, as well as fascinating Japanese ghost and yokai stories. The tour ended at a sacred cemetery, which made the whole experience feel unique and unforgettable. The guide was also very friendly and happy to answer all of our questions throughout the tour. Highly recommend this tour for families or anyone looking for a different side of Tokyo at night!
This 2-hour walking tour completely changed the way I see Shibuya. Our local guide was incredibly knowledgeable, explaining everything clearly while weaving together stories of the district’s vibrant modern life with its darker past, including yakuza history and eerie yokai legends. Walking through the neon-lit streets and then ending at a quiet, sacred cemetery created such a striking contrast. The guide was also very open and thoughtful in answering questions, which made the experience feel personal and engaging.
Wonderful tour to see the other face of Tokyo, our guides were amazing, they answered all our questions and were so nice. 10/10
Great tour for everyone Who wants to see another view from Tokyo and Japanese culture. The guides were wonderful, told us about the city, its history and the yokai culture. Also answered all our questions and even guide us back home.
I dont usually make reviews but it was amazing. Very good english tours around the city. Great explanation on the Japanese culture. 10/10 would recommend.
Really cool experience while walking down the streets of Tokyo and learning about the history in a spooky environment like the graveyard. My girl says she saw a fox or civet in the graveyard, but you never know, it could have been a spirit. Recommended.
The ghost tour was a great experience and it really went over my expectations. My guide, Amy, was very friendly, professional, and she was very passionate about explaining the history behind each location we visited. I enjoyed learning about the cultural background and local legends, which made the walk both entertaining and educational to the Japanese . The tour felt well-organized so it was very enjoyable. It was a fun way to explore the city at night while discovering stories directly on site. I would definitely recommend this tour to others who are interested in japanese ghost story or unique experiences.
It was a wonderful experience for me who visited Japan for the first time. I enjoyed the deep cultural tour.
도쿄에 대해 잘 모르는 우리한테 자세한 설명과 로컬들만 알만한 이야기나 괴담도 설명해줘서 좋았다 투어 할 가치가 있었다 ㅎㅎ It was worth it we had fun and knew about stories we never heard It was
Kanta was very personable, and gave some interesting facts and history about Tokyo as well as the main focus subject! Would definitely recommend :)
It is quite an experience. As someone exploring Japan, I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour, especially if you are into ghost stories and the like. Super friendly managers and staff. Perfect for first-time visitors.
I had a great time on the ghost tour! The guides were incredibly well-informed and shared fascinating details about the city’s history.
