Itinerary
Experience Japan’s national sport with a two-hour Family Sumo Workshop in Ryogoku—the heart of sumo. Held in a sumo-themed restaurant with a real clay ring, this hands-on event lets adults and kids train, play, and learn together. A bilingual MC introduces sumo’s rituals, followed by two former wrestlers demonstrating shiko (leg stomps), teppen (push drills), and suriashi (sliding footwork). Join them in the ring or watch and take photos. Parents can join or observe. Next, enjoy a live match between pros. In the final challenge, a volunteer puts on a padded suit and tries to push a 160kg wrestler—fun guaranteed! Refuel with a mini chanko hotpot, a protein-rich stew loved by wrestlers. Vegan, vegetarian, and allergy-friendly options available with 24 hours’ notice. Soft drinks included. Wrap up with photo time—no extra charge. All ages welcome. No experience needed—just come and have fun!

Lots of fun. Very informative. Food was amazing.
AWESOME experience. Everyone was really kind and got first hand experience with the sumo wrestlers.
Sumo wrestlers were fun and engaging. They were very experienced and the information was helpful for understanding the sport.
We came as a family. Sumo show exceeded our expectations. It was very funny, very entertaining and the hotpot was phenomenal. Would happily come back again.
A very very good experience !!
Great show to get to know something about the sport sumo. Also good and enjoyable for kids. The lunch was good and for us more then enough!
Time what we spend here was amazing ! We really recommend this place. The girl who ran it was amsome with Gentelmen's Sumo was on top level. They gave us plenty of leeway in the fight, because without it, no one would have managed 😉We got to know the stories of these players 🙂 On the end we sitting together to try lunch. A pleasant surprise for such a modest price 😊 Thank yiu Guys !
Amazingly experienced, we have so much fun, I love it
We went with our five kids ages 2 up to 17 and we all really enjoyed the show. The funniest part was when the sumo suit costume fell off at the front revealing a little package. The kids laughed so hard. The sumo wrestlers really made it fun and enjoyable. Very highly recommended experience for families. The food after wards was so yummy!
It was really interesting to see retired sumo wrestlers demonstrate some of their training moves and demonstrate what a typical match looks like
This was very fun experience. It was informative and learned about the basics of sumo moves
Great show, very interactive and we learned a lot. Definitely recommend for young families. Hot pot was yum.
The Sumo experience was a first for us and we truly enjoyed being a part of this event.
Learned a lot about sumo from the exhibition. Great time participating with the sumo wrestlers.
Me and Lishan spent an awesome morning watching the sumo show. We learn a lot about sumo in general and the food that we had after was very good. And it was super entertaining. It was also a very nice opportunity to meet new people.
I highly recommend that everyone that comes to Tokyo should do this. It was fun informational interactive and the meal we had was delicious. Our host was very welcoming and the sumo wrestler seem to enjoy demonstrating their knowledge while having fun doing it.
Sumo experience was incredible the strength of the wrestlers is astonishing and they do a great job of educating you on how sumo works
This was a fun experience - a lot more for my teen than me. It’s a little gimmicky but they do touch upon the nuances of the art itself. The food is yum and loved the variety!
We booked a sumo wrestling experience with lunch through Alava Japan Tours, but our experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, we were informed that only non-vegetarian food was available. At the time of booking, there was no clear mention that vegetarian meals were not included, nor was there any information stating that a special request needed to be made 24–48 hours in advance. This lack of transparency caused unnecessary inconvenience. We had to discuss and argue at the reception before they finally agreed to refund the lunch portion. I have also sent a follow-up email regarding this issue, but there has been no response so far. Overall, the service was poorly managed, with unclear communication and misleading information. I would advise others to be cautious and double-check all details before booking.
We had an absolutely incredible time at the sumo demonstration in Tokyo today. It was the perfect blend of culture, humor, and excitement that kept the whole family engaged. The two former professional wrestlers were fantastic, explaining the traditions of the sport while remaining very entertaining. The absolute highlight for us was the audience participation; our kids were absolutely thrilled and couldn't stop laughing when my husband got the chance to "compete" against the pros in the ring. To top it all off, the Chanko Nabe hot pot lunch was delicious and very authentic—even the children really enjoyed the food. It is a wonderful, high-energy experience that I would highly recommend to any family visiting Tokyo.
We showed up late, so we missed the warm up and real match, but I got to wrestle the guy. Food was good after. Touristy, but glad we did it
This was too much fun! Definitely learned something’s about sumo. The rikishi were personable and formidable. You definitely have to volunteer! I haven’t laugh so hard in a while. The hot pot was good and the pork cutlet huge!
Great event for the family. Very fun to try and push real sumo wrestlers. The event is organized well with the chance to learn about the sumo history and retro.
Amazing time! This was a great family friendly experience especially traveling with an infant, they even helped with vegetarian meals and very senior friendly- can’t wait to come again!

Very nice!Family friendly ~nice hot food! You can have all the experiences here!!!!So we really enjoy the show and it’s all in English
Demonstration with two sumo wrestlers, with explanations of the rules and training. The sumo wrestlers had a match, rather humorous. Visitors can participate and take photos. Afterward, a Q&A session is organized and a meal is served.
I really liked the experience, it gave me a lot of knowledge about the sumo that I didn’t know, I think it’s an impressive sport and being able to have the opportunity to fight one was something I never imagined doing, thanks for the great experience.
It was a very nice experience with a very good meal to finish it off. Thank you very much!
For other people it may be unpleasant, but it was a waste of time for us Turks. To experience sumo wrestling, which is an important part of my Japanese culture, I suggest only entering real sumo tournaments. This show isn't for us, we are 10 different attractions each day, but it's our fault that the food isn't proper, because I didn't have enough time to research this itinerary too late, but I suggest that the managers should make sure all of the activities on this site are proper. Other contributors were quite entertained and seemed to be satisfied. If you live 1 week in Turkey, they'll be 4 corners away😂
Friends looked at the reviews on the show and thought we'd watch a real sumo wrestling, but because of our ignorance, it's just a show, just imitating how the sumos are training, and giving you time to take a photo and video like they are lying to the sumos. Unfortunately, the food culture doesn’t match us, so be sure to check before all tours in Japan
Really nice and funny experience The very good dinner The nice ones were very funny Nice experience
