Just do this. You will eat better street food forever. Guide was awesome, accommodating, open to answering a (frankly unreasonable) volume of questions.

This food tour was fantastic! Our guide, Abu, was knowledgeable about the food and Japanese culture. He had a lot of recommendations for our time in Tokyo and helped us narrow down our itinerary. The tour is in a neighborhood outside the city center which was great to walk around as we chatted with Abu. The food itself was a good sampling of street food. We were stuffed! Abu did a great job of ordering a variety of items to taste and always offered to order more of what we liked. We are 2 families with kids ranging from 11-14 years old and it was enjoyable for all of us. We definitely recommend this tour!
Knowledgeable and very personalized tour. We had a wonderful time. Would highly recommend it! Don't hesitate to book it.
The food was absolutely delicious. It was really cool to try such a variety. Without this tour, we wouldn’t have visited Kichijoji, and I’m really glad we got to see it. Sena was so sweet and answered all our questions, plus gave us recommendations for later in our trip. Thank you!!
Carlos was a wonderful guide, very friendly and genuinely interested in ourselves. The food was amazing and the quantity was huge. You definitely will not be hungry. The kichijoji area has fantastic street food stalls that sell individual types of food. A memorable day, thank you Carlos
Sena did a wonderfull job. She is very patiently and well formed. We had fun and were not lost in this crowed area. District was easy to reach by s-way.
We had a wonderful time with Sena! She speaks English very well and did a great job answering our questions and explaining the food and culture of Japan. We took the tour before heading to the airport and had all of our luggage with us. Sena helped us find nearby storage for our luggage as well as navigate the trading routes back to the airport after the tour. None of that was part of the tour but Sena was so kind and helpful. The food tour itself was awesome. Pace yourself! There are so many foods to try! Sena did a great job of introducing us to a wide range of interesting and delicious foods. The final stop was at a beautiful park where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Magical! Thank you for a wonderful experience, Sena!
We were introduced by our very friendly and knowledgeable guide Sena to a number of delicious Tokyo street foods during a walk around a popular local venue for this activity. Highly recommend.
Seden, truly made my family’s food tour memorable. She speaks perfect English and is fluent in both Japanese and the culture. She took the four of us on a food tour of what the locals like to eat versus the more common tourist traps. She also led us through a beautiful night stroll through a park. The walk was needed because to digest between all of the meals. Trust me, you need a huge appetite to finish off all the food. We didn’t even come close! The most unique meal was the hot table but my favourite was the sushi bar because of the setting and chefs omakase. If you love food, this tour is a must! NOTE: wish I could have loaded photos but the site wasn’t working :(
We had a great experience with Ai as our guide. Kchijoji is a great neighborhood to visit. Love the local street food.
We had an amazing food tasting experience with Seden. We toured a neighborhood of Tokyo we never would have discovered ourselves. The food was interesting and so good. Seden shared information on the history of the area and the food we were sampling. Seden is such a fun and interesting person. We are so glad we met her early in our vacation so we could go back and try more street food in the same area.
We wanted to book a food tour to get to understand the local culture as one of the first things on our three-week trip to Japan, and Seden was the absolute perfect guide. From the moment we met her, she was so kind and explained everything thoroughly. We learned about an area we wouldn’t have had a chance to explore on our own, and got the true local experience. She took us to so many incredible spots and made sure that we got to try a little bit of everything, while explaining the local traditions and even some Japanese history. We couldn’t recommend a tour with Seden more, it’s a must-do for anyone coming to Japan!!!
Seden greatly exceeded my expectations on our recent food tour in Kichijoji. Her company was delightful and her knowledge of the local food scene was extensive. I was impressed that she wasn't just ordering food for me, but taking the time to speak with the various chefs/staff to determine what was best for me. Her Japanese was flawless. We also got to take a break with a nice stroll to the temple in lovely Inokashira Park. If you're considering a food tour, don't think twice about booking with Seden. You will not be disappointed! Arigatou gozaimasu Seden-san! I have already scheduled additional tours with WithLocals and recommend them highly.
Not only was Sena an amazing and attentive guide, but the food was well worth the tour on its own. It was so nice to get out of the tourist areas and experience how the locals eat. The food we had was by far some of the best on our trip. Highly recommend everyone taking a few hours to do this tour.
My wife and I did the street tasting tour and had a great time. Not only did we get to sample several local treats, but Sena also immersed us in local culture. It was fascinating and fun! It also got us out of central Tokyo to a non-touristy neighbourhood with local flavour. Getting there was via an extremely easy-to -navigate train ride from Shinjuku station. Sena is super friendly and personable. She speaks English as if it is her native language as she went to university in the USA.
Our "10 Tastings of Tokyo" with Sena was all we had hoped for… and more! We couldn’t have been more pleased. With her excellent knowledge and experience in the area, we tasted wonderful and varied foods of Tokyo, from savory to sweet. We even visited a conveyor-belt-style sushi restaurant—high on our list of "must try’s!" Sena speaks very good English and is a delight! We learned a lot about Japanese culture and she even helped us download a SUICA card which has enabled us to easily use the subway, taxis and vending machines and to pay for many other purchases. This tour was a perfect introduction to Tokyo and Japan. This was a definite highlight of our trip! We highly recommend it!
We took a walking street food tour with Sena in October. She was waiting for us when we arrived at the designated meeting spot in the Kichijoji district of Tokyo. She took us to many local food stalls as well as to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Not only did Sena take us to the food stalls where she thought the food was the freshest and the best, but she helped us buy gift snacks at a Don Quijote convenience store, and even helped us navigate the Subway kiosk so we could purchase Suica cards. She’s the best and we would highly recommend her!
We had an incredible time with Sena as our street food tour guide. We enjoyed so many different kinds of food in the Kichijoji area of Tokyo. Sena was so kind to answer all of our questions and she even made sure we found our way back to the correct subway stop. We highly recommend Sena. You won’t be disappointed. Book a tour with her now!
Within five minutes of meeting Carlos we felt it was like taking a stroll with an old friend. He was charming, informative and took us to food vendors that only the locals would have known about. We also got to know about living in Japan and discovered fascinating details of Japanese food etiquette and traditions. A memorable day and a great introduction to our stay in Tokyo.
Thank you Sena for taking us to Kichijoji, truly a hidden gem with good and tasty local food. We had an amazing time with Sena. She is very pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. She took us to a beautiful park after the tasting as we had some time left and managed to share travel experiences and also the Japanese culture. We really enjoyed the tour with Sena and there’s a lot to eat, so come prepared! Highly recommend Sena of WithLocal to anyone looking to experience the local food away from the hustle and bustle. Arigato Sena !
Sena was an excellent guide! She showed us some delicious places to eat and also knew so much about street foods and the Kichijoji area. Sena also was very accommodating as we had one person in our group who has a gluten allergy. Sena was able to find things for him to eat that were gluten-free.
Carlos was a wonderful tour guide for myself, my fiance, and my 15 year old son. We did the private food tour and there were so many amazing things to try and so much food - so be sure you go hungry. We learned a lot about the local culture, got to see a new area in Japan, and had a marvelous time despite the rain - it was the perfect way to get a 3 hour education on the local cultures, food, and ask questions and learn a lot - he was very informative, kind, and translated all my questions to the vendors perfectly. I would definitely recommend Carlos as a tour guide and we look forward to doing a different tour with him hopefully soon.
Sena was a wonderful and insightful guide. The tastings were varied and gave a great insight into the Japanese cuisine.
The four of us love food including Japanese food. ..but Sena opened our eyes and taste buds to loads of fabulous new food experiences. She took us to an automated sushi spot, and then to lots of stands with sweet and savory snacks ...and then to a picnic in a beautiful park. I recommend this tour highly. Barbara
This was such a great experience! Carlos was so friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the authentic Japanese lunch. It's a bit pricey, but worth it.
Sena was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable and friendly! The food was fantastic and she was able to help us accommodate allergies. Highly recommended.
We met Sena in Kichijoji to experience a number of the food available in the area to the north of the station. Sena was very nice and easy to talk with. Her English is very good and she was able to engage with all members of our family. She had a well-organised tour with a variety of food but was also able to accomodate vegetarian options for one member of our family and was also able to make adjustments based on preferences. We had a great time and really enjoyed seeing the Kichijoji area. Thank you Sena.
Sena was an amazing guide for our first visit to Tokyo. She took us on a tasting tour to try popular local favorites. The foods and vendors were places we would not have discovered on our own. She was also wonderful with my 2 young kids and kept them interested during the tour. Her English is perfect, and she was very responsive to our questions leading up to the tour date. I would recommend her to my friends without hesitation and will book her again on my next visit to Tokyo.
Great tour with Sena. Sena was a lovely guide and was very responsive prior to the tour. She had a good knowlege of the local area and where to try the best locals foods.
Sena was brilliant and the tour was great. After many trips to Japan and at the end of another two week exploration she still had us tasting completely new food and the area was great - the real Tokyo! On this trip we did three food tours in different cities with separate companies and this one was the best by far. Highly recommend this guide. Thanks Sena!!!
Ai was lovely. She took us round introducing us to street food of all kinds, explaining what each food was, how to eat it and how to use correct etiquette. She also gave good advice on other things to do around the wider Tokyo area
Yummy tastings but for the price, I expected more. Food samples were small and the guide wasn’t particularly engaging.
We loved the fact we got to try so many different foods we wouldn’t normally have tried, and our guide was lovely.
I had a wonderful street food tour with Sena, it was a great way to experience Tokyo and eat food I would not dare to buy myself. Sena taught me a lot about Tokyo and Japanese lifestyle, and it felt like hanging out with a friend!
Sena was amazing from start to finish! She was pleasant, fun, accommodating and the favorite part of our time in Tokyo. Sena made every adventure so enjoyable with her laughter and knowledge. She even made us a keepsake of origami for each one of us. Thank II Sena for making Tokyo our favorite stop so far in our Asia adventure.
Our family loved our experience with Carlos and Ai! Our food tour took place in the charming Kochijoji community adjacent to Inokashira Park. Ai and Carlos know just the right small, family-owned, artisanal shops to get excellent street food like menchi katsu (delicious meatballs with a panko crust), refreshing local drinks, and more. They create a whole experience and are very friendly and knowledgeable about the customs of Tokyo and Japan. This tour was a highlight of our stay in Tokyo and we highly recommend it!
Our guide Sena was amazing She went the extra mile to provide us with an absolutely perfect afternoon of tasting and gave us a tremendous amount of advice not only about food on the tour but about Tokyo In general She was a perfect host and of course her English was perfect
Thoroughly enjoyed the 10 Tastings of Tokyo private street food tour. I saw the real Tokyo and sampled so many local specialities. My favorite was menchi cutlet. But oh, there was the Sushi Go Round, the yakatori, and the sweets. Learned and enjoyed so much. Our guide was friendly and upbeat.
We had a long layover in Tokyo and decided to book a tour for a few hours with Sena. She is so accommodating and flexible with our schedule. Sena is a lovely guide who took us to see Meiji shrine and knew the spot to have a fantastic view of the Shibuya Crossings. Due to time constraint, we had to cut our tour short but Sena still tried to introduce us to many of the local delicacies and cared enough to help us get on the bus to go back to Haneda Airport in a timely manner. \nOverall, we had a lovely time touring Tokyo with Sena and would highly recommend this trip .
We had a great tour with Sena! She was very knowledgable and took us to some incredible places. We really enjoyed that the tour wasn't in the heart of the city as it gave us the opportunity to see a different side to Tokyo! Come hungry as we were so full by the end of the tour. Would highly recommend Sena!
Fab guide and great food. We are foodies but had never been exposed to Some of these delights. A joy. Walking from place to place allowed us to experience this great community.
Sena was an excellent host. The village was on a JR line and about 15 mins from Shinjuku where we stayed. The meeting point for Sena was easy to find. The tour brought us to a variety of restaurants and food stands, sampling popular local savoury and sweet foods and drinks. The information will be useful for our full Japan trip. Sena also explained a lot about how Japan works, it’s people and what it is like to live there. She helped with some bookings we needed to make, making some calls for us and reviewing some websites. She was very helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. The trip was very enjoyable for my wife and I and our 2 kids (8 and 10). Make sure you arrive hungry , there is a lot of eating!!
Thank you, Carlos. I had a wonderful afternoon with you. It was a pleasure to get to know you, Tokyo, the local foods and drinks. Your explanation and information of everything was very interesting. The choices of the foods and drinks were wonderful and I have returned back fully stuffed and content! Thank you once again, Carlos. Best wishes, Sharon
This is so worth every penny. Our guide sena was amazing and so sweet! She took us to some amazing spots. These were places I would never have known to go to if I was not a local. She explained everything and answered any questions we had. If you’re on the fence about doing a food tour in Tokyo..,DO IT!
Ai was very patient with us. Brought us to the most amazing Japanese street food. Would certainly recommend her to first time visitors to Japan. Certainly enjoyed myself. 10 stars (11 if I had an option).
Sena is a wonderful, friendly, and engaging hostess. This tour is great because I tried things I didn't even know existed. All the food was delicious and the area is full of energy. It was a great experience.
Ai is a very friendly lady who took me around in the neighgourhood of Kichijoji. Not in my dreams I would have went there on my own, but it proved to be a lovely place. All the shops and restaurants, where Ai tooke me, where nearby. She even took me to a beautyfull park and showed me a little temple. A hidden jem! Very recommendable, I enjoyed it very much! Domo arigato, Ai-san!
It was an amazing tour. Our guide Ai was great, we met at the station and everything was on time and on schedule. She showed me Kichijoji's off the beaten path food secrets. Every place she took me was delicious, she gave me a detail explanation about the food and the places that we went to. It was a very enriching food and cultural experience. A few days later I went back to one of the Izakayas she showed me with a group of friends. A great way to discover Japanese street food.
Very interesting and fun walk around Kichijoji trying so many different Japanese food plus sake. Lovely sweet guide made it interesting and exciting. The kids loved the Moomins and the sweet fish cakes (can't remember the Japanese name). The real sushi and tacoyaki were amazing. The tour was over 3 hours and was a great way to spend an afternoon and see a new area of Tokyo. Highly recommended.
