This is my kind of experience. Both relaxing and informative. Our host was fantastic. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to embrace a great Japanese tradition.
Was great learning about a traditional tea ceremony and then seeing and participating in the practical side of making the tea. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
We received an introductory lesson to tea making and the tea culture in Japan prior to entering the room for the tea ceremony. Our guide was delightful and so sweet. She made matcha first and then we had the opportunity to make it. My husband was easily able to sit on the floor…it was not a comfortable position for me and our friend so she provided a stool for us to sit on. We learned that matcha is not our favorite type of tea but we enjoyed the experience immensely.
Love the tea ceremony. These ladies taught us the history and showed us how it is traditionally done.
Perfect for a rainy day. It was an absolute delight. It was educational, elegant, and exactly what I needed to start this cultural vacation.
I had such a wonderful experience at this tea ceremony. I was introduced to the history behind the tradition. Then I enjoyed watching matcha being made, as well as getting to make my own matcha. I also got to try delicious Japanese dessert.
Absolutely amazing experience. Marikyo shared so much of her culture with me.
Bought this as a Christmas present for my brother who loves matcha and could not recommend enough. Was great to learn about the history and making of matcha as well as being a part of a traditional tea ceremony. Our host was lovey and explained everything so well. We definitely came out with a much better appreciation of the culture around matcha and tea ceremonies in Japan.
A great experience to make your own matcha experience with a traditionally trained matcha experience. Would recommend to friends
Great experience, we did matcha and understood all the tradition about it. I will recommended. Really traditional !!!
I really enjoyed this experience!! It was so emotional because she explained how Japanese people have a culture of fixing broken cups and they see beauty in that! Also, this was one of the matcha I have ever tried in my life
This was an amazing experience Yuka is a tea ceremony master, kind & informative. Highly recommend this experience for individuals, couples, families. Beautiful experience & space. Thank you Yuka!

This was a wonderful experience! Easily one of the highlights of our trip to Japan and certainly my favorite part during our stay in Tokyo. The instructors are knowledgeable and kind and I learned so much! The experience was so impactful that we sought out matcha, bowls, and other tea making tools to bring home with us so that we could continue to enjoy! I would definitely recommend this experience.

Beautiful tea ceremony in a calm and peaceful setting which we all loved. The staff were kind and helpful and the tea ceremony room full of tradition. A truly authentic experience
We had such fun coming to this tea ceremony. The staff were so nice and they accommodated us even though we got stuck in Tokyo traffic. The ceremony itself was a little pocket of calm and tranquility in a busy city, and we loved drinking and also making the matcha. Amazing experience.
A perfect gem! This old & original little tea house, tucked away on a little side street, is not only beautiful & relaxing, it’s a tranquil & peaceful, allowing you to leave the hustle & bustle of the outside world for a short while whilst learning about the traditions & history of the tea ceremony. Wonderfully to learn about the culture and great to be able to make the tea ourselves also. An amazing interactive experience. Amazing friendly host. 😍

The tea ceremony was very informative and quite interesting. Matcha was delicious and it was a fun hands on experience.
I stumbled across this Japanese tea ceremony while wandering through Shibuya and decided to give it a try — I’m so glad I did! Sakura was a wonderful host, warm and knowledgeable, and she guided me through the ceremony with such care. It was a calming and authentic experience that I’ll never forget. A true hidden gem in the middle of the city.
Wonderful insights into matcha making. Wonderful experience. Very detailed explanations. Interactive. Very welcoming. Highly recommend.
Very informative and a beautiful experience! Kyoto matcha was delicious and the Japanese sweets were tasty. Would come again.
Sakura and Mariko were very kind and explained the history of the tea. It was easy to communicate with them and I enjoyed the history of matcha!
I had a really memorable visit here. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Tokyo. I learnt so much and had the most delicious matcha I’ve ever had. Thank you!
Very educational, Sakura and Mariko were extremely knowledgeable and patient. Highly recommend this for a first time.
Very extensive and complete explanation of the tea ceremony. Loved to both watch the preparation of matcha and make it myself.
This was a very informative and fun class. We wanted to understand more about the tea ceremony and how to properly prepare matcha. We learned a lot!
Great experience, and leaded me back the samurai age! Did you know that the tea culture in Japan was once an important activity for samurai? That’s it! Not only enjoy the mocha, knowing how to make it but also being a must-do as a samurai! Trust me! It’s not easy for foreign tourists to experience those real Japanese experience, here you are!
I visited Tokyo Cha-an in Shibuya and it was one of the highlights of my trip. The moment I stepped in, it became quiet and calm—even though it’s just minutes from the station. Our instructor walked us through the meaning behind the tea ceremony, from the utensils to the movements, and made it very approachable. I loved preparing my own matcha and pairing it with seasonal sweets. The hospitality was warm, the explanations were clear, and I left feeling refreshed and more connected to Japanese culture. I strongly recommend Tokyo Cha-an to couples, families, and even locals who want a peaceful break from the city.
A wonderful tea ceremony experience! Anyone looking for an hour of peace and mindfulness in the rather hectic Japan is absolutely in the right place here!
Very good experience; she explains everything, but they also let you try to do it yourself to get both the Instagram photo and to see that it is not easy to do.
Very interesting and very useful for learning Japanese traditions. Highly recommended!!
It was a new experience and more fun and interesting than I thought. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Anyone will think it will be a time of good memories without a burden. You can see the expert's specimen directly in front of your eyes and follow it right after you get used to it quickly. Maybe a short time, but it's been a precious time.
Our host was Chie, and it was extraordinary, a beautiful experience, we learned the origin of the tea ceremonies, and made our own matcha, delicious! 100% recommended if you are looking to live something very traditional of Japanese culture
The teahouse is so quaint that you can't even believe it's a room in a building. I had a very nice experience. His demonstration was dignified, and I felt refreshed by the beauty of each gesture, as if my spine were straightened. After the teacher's demonstration, make your own tea. It was also fun to choose sweets according to the dishes and the season.
Even Japanese people don't have many opportunities to interact with each other, but the children watched the action of making tea with serious breath. In the silence, I could hear the sound of pouring hot water, making tea… Even in the middle of Shibuya, I could hear such a small tone. After watching the demo, you can actually make your own tea!! It was quite difficult, but the tea I made myself was also exceptional. It was an experience that made me want to learn more about calligraphy. Japanese sweets were also very cute to feel the season♡
I had a quiet time which I didn't think was Shibuya. It is very good not only for foreign tourists but also for Japanese who want to experience the tea ceremony casually. Even if you have no experience in the tea ceremony, you can drink the matcha you have prepared yourself. It looks like fun on your own, on a date, or as a family.
