Jane is an outstanding tour leader. Her enthusiasm is infectious. She picked GREAT venues and food. I would recommend her without reservation.

Dianti was our guide. He was very personable and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the various types of Japanese cuisine/dishes but also the culture and history associated with the foods. Would highly recommend this tour.
We did the best of Shibuya food tour with Jane. It was fantastic. Jane is so friendly and helpful, with so much local knowledge, history, tradition and food preparation. We ate so much, and in places we would never find without her. The sushi was to die for! We couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Super nice food tour. The guides, Ema and Joshua, were extremely well-knowing and super kind and funny. Top Experience!
Jane gave us an awesome experience in eating and drinking! Very friendly, informative and knows Tokyo very well.
Amazing tour of Shibuya with Alejandra ! Each meal was more delicious than the last ! Alejandra’s insider knowledge about Tokyo made the experience even more enjoyable !
Had a great time with Daniel. He showed us places we would have missed without the tour. Very knowledgeable and friendly guy!
We enjoyed our tour of Retro Shibuya. Our guide was knowledgeable about the history of the area we visited. Seeing how some of the history is preserved in the food and design of the area gives you an appreciation of the culture. We especially enjoyed walking the historic hidden alleyways.
Wesley did a fab job showing us the more traditional food scene. It’s quite a compact tour so you don’t walk too far . Which means you spend more time learning about the area and eating, or drinking. We liked that. The Ramen stop was particularly good and we ended up the night in a very traditional bar about the size on my garden shed ! Excellent .
Great tour best tour guide and great food. Loved the tour. Very fun experience. Loved it. !!!!!!!!! Loved walking through the traditional areas.
Jane was absolutely stellar. She has an in depth view and consortium of knowledge which really gave us a distinct understanding of the retro food scene in and around Shibuya. Would highly recommend. The amount of food is immense and the drinks were steady. All the goods I swear.
We had Jane and she was fantastic! We learned so much about Shibuya and Japanese culture in general. Great food and drinks as well!
She was very informed of the history and brought us to amazing spots! She brought us to a cute Ramen spot and knew so many little spots while walking!
Josh and Jacob were terrific guides. They gave us so much interesting historical facts as well as delicious gems around Shibuya.
BEST FOOD TOUR EVER WITH SERENA FROM ARIGATO TRAVEL. My husband, teenage daughter and I did the Tokyo food tour. Serena had tremendous knowledge of Japanese culture and the foods there and she was extremely informative. Plus they accommodated my daughter’s multiple allergies. If that’s not enough, she was also one of the most delightful people I’ve ever met. Definitely go on this tour and use Serena!!!
Great tour with a knowledgeable and fun guide. Around the sights and foods of Shibuya. Would definitely recommend. :-)
We had a great evening with Josh in Shibuya. He took us places the locals do not know about. We learned a lot. We ate a lot. We laughed a lot. Thank you Arigato travel.
This food tour was great as it covered the historic food of Japan and some of the original eateries which was fab. Shigeti was an excellent guide answering all our questions 10/10
Had a great tour! We had ramen, gyoza, beer, and more! Shigeki was our tour guide and did an amazing job. We learned a lot about Shibuya.
Sharon was an excellent tour guide. Nice and accommodating. She shared interesting facts about Shibuya and we tasted delicious food. Overall great day!
We really enjoyed this retro food tour. Lots of little info along the way. Quirky food spots. Great tastes. We wouldn’t have found these spots on our own. The guides were great & we had a bag of laughs with the Australian folk! Thanks to all.
Informative and fun tour with Josh and Norma! Learned a lot about the back alleys of Shibuya and had tastings of Japanese bites and ramen. The tour stuck to the retro theme which was fun. Walking through the streets and learning tidbits about Japanese culture was the best part. Entertaining and unique - would highly recommend this tour for first time visitors and for people who just moved Tokyo. We also added the Karaoke after this tour which was a blast!
All in all, the retro food walking tour of Shibuya was an absolute delight. The combination of delicious food, beers, retro sweets, captivating history, and a knowledgeable guide Shion made it an exceptional experience that transported me to a bygone era. Whether you're a food lover, a history enthusiast, or simply someone seeking a unique cultural adventure, I wholeheartedly recommend embarking on this memorable journey through Shibuya's culinary heritage.
We did the Hidden Gems tour in Tokyo with Yappy and Mai (sincere apologizes if I messed up her name) who were the real hidden gems here. OMG! They were so much fun! What a wonderful experience. We started our night at a little at a little bar with all you can drink barrel of various beverages. Had an appetizer of Wagyu Beef Sushi, with a few options with unique starters. Then we moved on to a Saki bar and tried 4 different kinds of Saki and sampled some snacks unlike anything else I've ever had. Next, we moved to a small place with more drinks and skewers. Finally, we wrapped up our night with Ramen that used a shrimp-based broth...SO GOOD! The food and company were wonderful and the tour and education we received along the way made for a very enjoyable evening. I can't say enough good thing about this final night in Japan. What great way to end our trip.
We had an amazing tour through Shibuya getting to try all sorts of food and drinks. Yappy was incredible helping with our dietary requirements and sharing in the local culture
We had a wonderful time on this tour. Joppy was an outstanding guide - he is the friendly and personable guide you always hope for. We learned a lot about the culture as well as trying a wide variety of foods. We also explored some truly off the beaten path places. It was a terrific addition to our visit to Tokyo.
Guides were pleasant but the tour is overpriced relative to the competition. Not great value for money. There are better options out there.
Keiko made this tour! She was such a fun host that took us to so many places to try adventurous and delicious foods. She was so sweet and took so many fun pictures along the way for us to remember the experience. The group was so nice and we actually made friends with everyone on the tour, so it made for a really fun night! Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking to try some of Japan's classic dishes as well as some adventurous ones!
Great tour Hoppy our guide was amazing Went above our expectations Arranged amazing tour and considered our food restrictions amazingly, 1 vegetarian and one person allergic to fish and seafood. Arranged vegan ramen, that was very tasty, arranged main course at an very special bar , the size of a thimble but very tasty and true Japanese food experience. Even managed to talk use Into trying narto , witch we would not of done on our own .
Amazing tour of the local spots for food and drink around the Shibuya area. Shibuya is quite touristy, but our guide definitely took us off the beaten path. Asami is a very fun, outgoing person and speaks English very well. Probably the highlight was her taking us to a 'Dagashi Bar' - literally a 'candy bar'. All you can eat candy and then booze! We would never in a million years thought something like this existed! Thanks so much Asami and Arigato Tours!
Had a private tour (just the two of us) with tour guide Satoshi last night. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but this experience blew us away. Satoshi spoke excellent English so there was no language barrier at all. He took us to very small hidden places usually only visited by locals. He was very accommodating asking about our likes and dislikes before ordering. We are both the adventurous type so we gave him free reign in ordering whatever he felt is best. Everything was super delicious including the raw chicken. In addition to the food it was fascinating to learn all about Japanese food culture, chop stick etiquette and the social drinking norms. Can’t recommend this tour highly enough.
Kirsty did an amazing job as hostess. She gave us us lots of cool information about the Shibuya area of Tokyo. We visited 5 or 6 different restaurants from sushi to wagyu on a stick. Great stuff!
We loved every minute of this tour. Our tour guide Tim was informative and fun. We ate tons of great food and learned lots of cool things about Tokyo. I would highly recommend this tour, tour guide, and company!
We had Kay as our guide and she was very friendly and very knowledgeable. We visited a number of establishments we would have otherwise had difficulty in finding. Some of the food we tasted was very unique. One dish I would never have in my home country (or ever again most likely) but it is a story to tell back home! We have since revisited one of the establishments to eat at again, it was that good. Thanks Kay for a memorable experience!
I had the most wonderful evening exploring Shibuya and eating and drinking and learning about Japan. Our tour guide Asami was really energetic, funny and friendly as she explained so many interesting deets about Japanese culture and etiquettes. It felt like having a friend bringing me around Shibuya... I love the spots that they took us to, especially the last one (won't spoil it for the rest of you, but yeah it was a treat!!!). I would recommend this to frequent Japan travellers who want to discover more of Japan (and Shibuya in particular). Also for solo travellers, this is a great way to get to know people - and the friendly guides!
Our guide Asami was friendly and very knowledgable about Tokyo food culture, and she explained things really well. Even though I've lived in Tokyo for many years I learned a lot of new things and enjoyed exploring places I may not have checked out on my own. There was a great mix of food and Asami gave us a great balance of food that was new and maybe challenging for some, as well as some of the classics. We enjoyed everything from shoyu ramen and gyoza to natto omelets and unique cocktails. She was excited to share everything with us and her enthusiasm was infectious! The whole evening was wonderful, but the cherry on top was checking out classic Japanese snacks and treats, nostalgic for most Japanese people but a novelty for most tourists. All in all it was a great experience and a superb tour for those who want to experience a deeper side of Shibuya.
The retro Shibuya tour was an excellent way to taste and visit places we would have miss otherwise. Our tour guide Kay was very energetic and always helpful explaining cool facts about each place and Japanese culture. It’s definitely a must try experience! And the food was so tasty!
I enjoyed two tours with Arigato Japan in December 2018. The guides were very personable and friendly, great local knowledge of the place, and many nuggets of information to share with us. They were perfectly fluent in English, which allowed me to ask many questions about the places we were at, and about Japanese culture. Been to Shibuya and Asakusa many times before, but they brought us to many places I would not have known about on my own. I particularly like the Retro Shibuya tour, as it took us to a really awesome local noodle shop and a retro concept bar with snacks from the past. A great cultural experience, especially with the detailed explanations from our guides. Plenty of food, and generous with the drinks. Definitely a good way to hit the ground running if you want to experience something beyond the usual tourist spots in Tokyo.
