The best Japanese cooking class in Tokyo! This is our second time for my son (12 yrs old) and myself to attend Morimi’s cooking class. Morimi’s recipes are simple but really tasty. It was a wonderful cooking class experience. The instructor was friendly and knowledgeable, and the steps were easy to follow even for beginners. The ingredients were fresh and the final dish was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!
This was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it for anyone! We were invited into the beautiful home kitchen of Momoji where we learned to make pork katsu, curry, and daifuku (strawberry mochi dessert). Not only was it one of the best meals we had on our trip it was probably the best experience we had since we had a part in making it!
I had an amazing experience at this traditional Japanese cooking class. The instructions were simple, clear, and very easy to follow, making it enjoyable even without much prior cooking experience. Everything was explained in excellent English, which made the whole process smooth and stress-free. What made it truly special was being invited into Morimi’s home and kitchen—it felt personal, authentic, and incredibly welcoming. It wasn’t just a class, but a genuine cultural experience. Overall, it exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning traditional Japanese cooking in a warm and friendly environment.
The cooking class "Japanese Tonkatsu-Curry" with Morimi was a very great and memorable experience. After we entered Morimi's home, she invited us to make ourselves at home and we felt like at home the whole time we spent in her kitchen. We learned step-by-step and with hands-on how to prepare all the dishes, Every dish was delicious: the pork cutlets, curry, the shrimps, the fried and grilled vegetables and the potato salad. We appreciated a lot the idea to compare the curry prepare ourselves compared to the one with ingredients from a grocery as well as the tasting of the potato salat prepared in a vegetarian and non vegetarian mode. It was exactly the right choice because it is very easy to prepare all the dishes at home in Switzerland where all ingredients are available.
Lovely woman, great food (And sake)! I very much enjoyed speaking with her about all manner of things, and I'll definitely be cooking what she's taught me.
In Morimi's class, we can learn variety of cooking. She usually chooses seasonal ingredients,so you can enjoy a sense of the season every time you cook. And she also teaches us how to get and keep ingredients. Many of the recipes are easy to make at home even after the lesson, so please come and join a class!
This cooking class has such a warm, welcoming atmosphere! Morimi-san teaches a wide range of dishes — mostly Japanese, but also French, Chinese, and other cuisines. The recipes don’t require any special ingredients or equipment, so you can easily recreate them at home. What makes the class extra special is that Morimi-san doesn’t just teach recipes — she also shares lots of useful cooking tips and nutritional insights. If you’re living in Japan, it’s a great way to expand your everyday cooking repertoire. And if you’re visiting, you’ll be able to take home the skills to make delicious Japanese dishes wherever you are.
If you are looking for a very special Japanese cooking class; look no further! Morimi-san opens her lovely home to you and teaches you much about the cuisine in Japan. You will not only enjoy a beautiful lunch you help to create, but also Morimi-san’s exceptional warmth and hospitality. いただきます!!
It was a truly amazing experience. This was a private cooking experience with the host in her own home. Food was delicious, conversation interesting and all round must do if you are Japan. Just loved it!!
If you’re reading these reviews because you’re on the fence about this class, book it!! You’ll be glad you did! Mori is a wonderful teacher and host - I highly recommend this experience! I chose the tofu class with sweets, and we made a wide variety of delicious dishes - it was even more recipes than I was expecting, which was exciting! During the class, Mori taught me various valuable tricks and techniques that I would not have known otherwise. Mori’s directions are easy to follow and all the recipes are included in a packet to take home. After taking the class, I feel fully confident that I will be able to make these recipes at home! The recipes are not overly complicated or time-consuming, but the flavors are delicious. I can even use them for easy weeknight meals and lunches. After making our meal, we ate together. Mori taught me a few Japanese words and phrases, including a special phrase that is said before eating a meal in Japan: Itadakimasu - an expression of gratitude for the food and respect for the efforts involved in preparing it. I also learned about some of the cookware, ingredients, and utensils commonly used in Japanese cooking. I really appreciated learning these tidbits about Japanese customs and lifestyle. (Note: the recipes in class can be reproduced without buying any special cookware!) All in all, this was a wonderful experience. Arigato gozaimasu, Mori!
I found Morimi’s Home Kitchen online and was so excited to learn some Japanese cooking as a birthday activity while travelling through Japan with my husband. I selected the Tofu course as I wanted to learn as many recipes as possible, and also selected Sake and mochi as a birthday treat. From the get go, communication was easy and accessible. Morimi has worked hard on her English skills and we had no troubles in chatting with her through the cooking class. Her website is clear and accurate – what you pay for is what you get (and it’s pretty great!!!). It was also really helpful that she offered to collect us from the nearest train station. Morimi’s home was so welcoming and wonderful. We donned our aprons and got to work quickly – she’s got the craziest stove I have ever seen and I want one in my home in Australia! Morimi had printed out recipe and other relevant information which was easy to understand and presented in a way that I will be using these recipes for years to come. Every step of the way, I understood what was happening and learnt some new techniques for creating delicious Japanese food. I was also able to take photos of all the labels so I can search for items in my local Asian grocers. By the end, it felt like we were hanging out with a friend as we ate our wonderful, multi-plate meal. And it was all SO delicious too! Would highly recommend anyone interested in Japanese cooking take classes with Morimi. I know I am looking forward to recreating these meals now that we are home and sharing with friends. Thanks again for a wonderful birthday lunch! - Emma and Jerod.
At last I learned how to make sushi I have been dreamed. I swear I will visit you again on next visit to Tokyo.Thank you Morimi!
Was an excellent experience, I highly recommend anyone considering a cooking experience to do this. Morimi was welcoming, patient and took time to explain the little details and hacks that make cooking a breeze. All cooking was done in her home and made it feel like an experience cooking with family making delicious food.
It was truly the best experience I've had in Japan. The cooking course of Katsu curry (pork cutlet curry) was very fun and delicious. It included Japanese-style curry made with dashi soup, along with tonkatsu (pork cutlet), ebi fry (fried shrimp), and potatoes. I also learned how to cook rice in a regular pot, so I plan to buy some Japanese curry roux and try making it after returning home. Ms. Morimi was very friendly, and the lesson was enjoyable. She also shared a lot about Japanese food and culture, as well as recommendations for food and sightseeing spots. There were also lessons available for sushi and tofu dishes, so I would love to try those next time I visit in Japan. I heard that there are also menus available for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free diets. On the way back, I visited Goutoku-ji, a temple famous for its lucky cat (maneki-neko), which was also a fun experience.
I wanted to try perfecting tonkatsu curry, so I joined Morimi’s curry class. The curry, made with store-bought roux and Japanese dashi, has a uniquely Japanese flavor that’s quite different from Indian curry. The crispy tonkatsu, shrimp fry, and potato salad complemented the curry perfectly, and I felt inspired to try making it myself. This class is definitely a must-try!
We spent a lovely Saturday at Morimi-san's home kitchen learning how to make traditional yummy tofu dishes with seasonal & local ingredients. Informative, easy to understand in a relaxed comforting setting - it was great to learn new techniques and familiarise one's self with the staple Japanese ingredients and what to look for in a grocery store! Particularly liked how she had printed out her recipes in English with step by step instructions & photos - really lovely to be given the knowledge of how to turn the dishes vegan/vegetarian if we wanted too. Perfect for those who want to learn traditional Japanese home cooking and spend time chatting with locals and hearing about their life stories! Loved the sake we had at lunch too!
I attended Morimi’s sushi course, and it was an amazing experience! Making pressed sushi using a traditional oshizushi mold was so much fun. Creating colorful temari sushi with our favorite ingredients felt perfect for parties. Enjoying delicious sake while savoring the sushi we made ourselves became an unforgettable memory.
A very fun and culturally enriching experience. Morimi was incredibly kind, attentive and always willing to share her knowledge with a smile. It was certainly an experience that we will remember very fondly and that we recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy an authentic and pleasant immersion. We hope to see you soon in Spain!
