My wife and I booked a 3hr tour with Yohei and we were very pleased. Even before we arrived to Japan, Yohei was in contact with us to co-develop the places we wanted to see. Yohei was very knowledgeable and we had the opportunity to learn more about the history of Japan. Yohei was also very helpful in providing additional tips for restaurants and other things to do in Tokyo. I highly recommend a tour with Yohei!

Itinerary
Discover Tokyo through the eyes of a local as you explore a city where centuries-old traditions and cutting-edge innovation exist side by side. Before your experience begins, you'll complete an online Personalization Form, allowing your host to tailor the day around your interests, whether you're drawn to historic temples, vibrant neighborhoods, exceptional cuisine, tranquil gardens, or modern city icons. Every experience is thoughtfully personalized, allowing your route to evolve naturally throughout the day based on your interests, the season, weather conditions, and local crowd levels. Here are some of the places your personalized experience may include:
Step into one of Tokyo's oldest neighborhoods, where lantern-lined streets, traditional shops, and beautifully preserved architecture capture the spirit of the Edo period. As you wander through this vibrant district, discover why Asakusa remains one of the city's most treasured cultural destinations.
Visit Tokyo's oldest Buddhist temple, founded in the 7th century and dedicated to Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy. From the iconic Kaminarimon Gate to its vibrant temple grounds, Sensō-ji has welcomed worshippers and visitors for nearly 1,400 years, making it one of Japan's most revered cultural landmarks.
Leading to Sensō-ji, Nakamise is one of Japan's oldest shopping streets, serving temple visitors for centuries. Browse traditional sweets, handcrafted souvenirs, and regional specialties while experiencing the timeless atmosphere of this historic marketplace.
Originally established on the grounds of Kaneiji Temple, Ueno Park became one of Japan's first public parks in 1873. Today, its museums, shrines, scenic ponds, and seasonal gardens make it one of Tokyo's most beloved places to experience nature without leaving the city.
Explore the grounds of Japan's oldest and largest national museum, home to an extraordinary collection celebrating thousands of years of Japanese art, history, and craftsmanship. Those wishing to explore the museum's remarkable exhibitions are welcome to visit with separate admission.
Step into a quieter side of Tokyo as you wander through two of the city's most atmospheric neighborhoods. Narrow lanes, traditional wooden houses, family-run businesses, and tucked-away shrines offer a rare glimpse into the character of old Tokyo that has all but disappeared elsewhere.
From its origins as a post-war electronics district to its status as the global capital of anime, manga, gaming, and pop culture, Akihabara has continually reinvented itself. Today, its neon-lit streets showcase one of Tokyo's most vibrant and distinctive neighborhoods.
Walk beside the impressive stone walls and tranquil moats surrounding the Imperial Palace, built on the former site of Edo Castle, once home to the powerful Tokugawa shogunate. While the inner palace grounds remain private, the surrounding gardens provide a fascinating glimpse into Japan's imperial history.
Although Tokyo's wholesale fish market has relocated, Tsukiji continues to thrive as one of Japan's most celebrated culinary destinations. Wander lively streets filled with seafood specialists, family-run stalls, seasonal delicacies, and local flavors that reflect the richness of Japanese food culture.
Once reserved for the Tokugawa shoguns, these beautifully landscaped gardens offer a peaceful retreat where tidal ponds, traditional teahouses, and meticulously maintained gardens sit beneath Tokyo's striking modern skyline. Visitors wishing to explore the gardens may do so with separate admission.
Inspired by the Eiffel Tower yet standing even taller at 333 metres, Tokyo Tower has been one of the city's defining landmarks since 1958. Those wishing to enjoy panoramic views across the capital can visit the Main Deck with separate admission.
Hidden within a tranquil forest of more than 100,000 trees, Meiji Jingu offers an extraordinary sense of peace just moments from the vibrant streets of Harajuku. Dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, it remains one of Japan's most important Shinto shrines.
Few visitors realize this expansive green space was once the site of Japan's first powered flight before later serving as the Olympic Village during the 1964 Tokyo Games. Today, it has become one of the city's favorite places to relax, unwind, and enjoy the changing seasons.
At the heart of Harajuku, Takeshita Street is renowned for its colorful boutiques, quirky cafés, bold street fashion, and ever-evolving youth culture. It's one of the best places to experience Tokyo's creativity and playful spirit.
Watch thousands of pedestrians move effortlessly through one of the world's busiest intersections before visiting the nearby Hachikō statue, commemorating the loyal Akita dog whose remarkable devotion has become one of Japan's most beloved stories.
Blending Japanese, English, and French landscape design, Shinjuku Gyoen provides a peaceful sanctuary amid one of the world's busiest urban districts. Visitors wishing to stroll through its beautifully maintained gardens are welcome to do so with separate admission.
Hidden among Shinjuku's soaring skyscrapers lies Golden Gai, a maze of narrow alleyways where tiny bars preserve the nostalgic character of post-war Tokyo. Many of these intimate venues seat only a handful of guests, creating one of the city's most distinctive nightlife districts.
Built on reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay, Odaiba showcases the city's futuristic side through striking architecture, waterfront promenades, innovative attractions, and spectacular skyline views that contrast beautifully with Tokyo's historic neighborhoods.
Explore what is widely believed to be the birthplace of the famous maneki-neko, or beckoning cat. Thousands of these lucky feline figurines decorate the grounds, creating one of Tokyo's most charming hidden gems and a memorable finale to your personalized day.

Gab was great! It was our first day in Tokyo, and he helped us feel so much more comfortable navigating the city. He didn’t stick to just the routine spots, but helped us find some of the off the beaten track gems. We highly recommend Gab!
Great tour with local touch. Worked with us to accommodate what we want to see and not make it touristy.
Five stars for Toshi in Tokyo Our private half day tour with Toshi was a highlight of our Tokyo trip. He took us to a shrine tucked into a residential neighborhood where we were surrounded by locals going about their day, then to a lovely small park in the middle of the city that most visitors would walk right past. We finished at the Imperial Palace, which gave the morning a great balance of quiet local corners and big history. Toshi is a Tokyo local, and he showed us the neighborhoods where he has lived, which made the whole morning feel personal. We talked food, history, and the best times of day to visit different spots, and I asked questions nonstop. He had a thoughtful answer for every one. It was also a smart way to start our time in the city. He gave us a real lay of the land and walked us through the transportation system, so we felt confident getting around on our own afterward. I'd recommend Toshi to anyone heading to Tokyo. If you can, book him early in your trip.
Gab was very knowledgeable, flexible and accommodating. We had a great time, and would book this tour again. He went out of his way to be accommodating and even give us ideas for our next tour.
Fantastic way to get to know about Tokyo .Our guide was very helpful and accommodating .Navigating the train system was fascinating
Sherilyn was so wonderful and kind. Showed my wife and I all around at our own pace. Super considerate and warm. Great English speaking. We love her !
Kay was a terrific guide. He really listened to what we wanted to do and planned well. He is very knowledgeable. We took a less touristy route and loved every minute. Thank you, Kay!
Justine was very knowledgeable and accommodating to our needs. Highly recommend her. Had a great time
Our Guide was Hiroko Kitagawa. We requested an English language tour because I know very little Japanese, and my husband knows a few words We were matched with Hiroko, and English Teacher! We couldn't have had a more amazing tour because Hiroko was very organized and planned ahead. She even stopped half-way through and bought an umbrella for us to use. (Isn't that the most thoughtful gesture) ! First she sent us options for the East and West side of Tokyo. We expressed our interest in seeing the east side first. She traveled to our hotel (above and beyond) and we caught the Daiba monorail, to the Tokyo Train Station. After a Japanese history lesson, we took amazing pictures in and around the Train Station. We went back into the rabbit warren of the Tokyo Train station and caught a train, and maybe a subway to the Asakusa area. We then went into the Tourist information center and looked out over the interesting Tokyo Sky Tower, and the building shaped like a beer mug complete with foam at the top. We went through the Kaminarimon gate, did some street shopping on Nakamise shopping street (also very fun), and visited the Sensoji temple. After participating in the cleansing ceremony, we went into the temple and said prayers. We then traveled by bus to Yanaka and visited the Tennoji temple, the Yanaka cemetery, and the Yanaka Ginza Cafe. At each stop Hiroko was careful to point out the interesting aspects, Shinto traditions, and Buddhist practices. We loved every minute of our visit to Tokyo. [The next day we felt confident enough to try to navigate on our own and saw the Meiji Shrine - only due to Hiroko's patience and explanation of how to navigate the trains. Since the typhoon outer bands were over Tokyo, we made great use of the umbrella that next day. ] Finally, as we were resting at the cafe, after 13K steps, Hiroko presented us with a gorgeous Nousaku bowl made of 100% Tin. So delightful and unexpected! If Hiroko is available, I would definitely request her.
Exploring with Amir was like exploring a new town with an old friend. He was keen to ensure we saw what interested us, but at the same time he was able to add in some suggestions we hadn’t thought of. As this was our first time in Tokyo he gave us a quick lesson on using the metro, and pointed out an ATM near our hotel. Amir had a great knowledge of Japanese culture as well as the history behind it, but was able to make it feel like a casual conversation with a friend as opposed to a history lesson. We loved our time with Amir, and would certainly recommend doing this tour.
We booked a 5 hour walking tour. Megumi, our guide, was lovely.…. Just the right pace for us. We went on the metro to Asakusa and Ueno areas at our request. She stayed with us over her time to get us back to our hotel. Can’t recommend her enough. 👍👍👍
Tomo our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about the history of the city, showed us authentic experience and brought us for an amazing lunch. We would definitely book another tour with Tomo! Thanks so much
I got to learn many things about the city, the culture, the food, and places to visit. I saw old buildings, trees, temples and shrines and new skyscrapers with advertising screens on the side. Our guide, Emir, was so knowledgeable and personable that it was like touring with a friend.
The fact that the walking tour introduces one to Tokyo when it is such a large city with so many people.
YoShimi did an exceptional job taking us to very specific places we’d requested and suggesting additional places for us to visit. We had a wonderful day and could never have seen as much in one day without a guide.
Rey was wonderful. She was prompt and was so thoughtful. It was a delight to have her as our guide. She was well versed in the historical aspects and landmarks. Easy to communicate with and she was flexible with changes.
Chiara was our guide for both Tokyo and Shimizu. She has excellent English skills and is very easy to talk to. She was very thorough in her planning to ensure our needs were met. My wife has mobility issues she ensured that the walking was minimised. This was greatly appreciated. Her research on the places we visited was impressive. She is also a foodie which was great as she got me to try different foods. Thanks Chiara
Leon is a great guide, very friendly, has perfect knowledge about the city and the country, eager to adapt to the needs of a visitor. I wish we had more time in Tokyo.
Monta was a great guide and was well prepared to create a unique experience based on our interests. Yes you can walk Tokyo by yourself but there is a lot you’d miss and Monta made sure we didn’t miss anything on our day. He was kind and a safe person to be with and clearly loves this city.
Tomo was terrific. She was very friendly and was very in tune to what we needed /wanted from our tour. Everything went at our pace. She was organized, in good communication leading up to the tour and spoke very good English. I would highly recommend a tour with Tomo.
Walking tour through Tokyo with 5 people all different ages but our guide was able to keep it interesting for everyone
This was our first tour after arriving in Japan the evening before. Kyoko was kind enough to meet us in our hotel lobby, saving us from trying to learn and navigate the metro system while still somewhat jet-lagged. In four hours se walked a total of about 5 miles and travelled many more on the metro. We toured the Shibuya Crossing area and Asakusa, visiting shrines, stores, temples, pagodas, and markets. Kyoko was a great guide, graciously answering our many questions. She took time to help us understand local customs and religious practices, like the ritual cleansing with water before entering a temple. The walk through the gardens in Ueno Park was not only a good glimpse into the history of the Shogun warriors, but a peaceful end to our tour.
We had the best tour guide with Luigi. We felt so lucky to have been placed with him. He went out of his way to customize our experience while allowing us to feel flexible to stop and eat and shop. He had a wonderful way of showing us all the highlights while missing the crowds and finding the best picture spots. Ending on the tanuki street was awesome! Highly recommend as a great way to be introduced to Tokyo.
This was the worst experience ever for a tour. Really terrible experienc. Tour guide was not good at all and took us to subways.
Emir was great! He was very knowledgeable and we were able to be flexible in our plan/what we wanted to see. Highly recommend!
Toshi is the best! So knowledgeable, friendly, and showed us things we would have never seen had we planned the day ourselves. I just put topics of interest like “culture, food, non touristy things” and he hand picked an unforgettable day. As a bonus, he stayed for extra time so that we could explore his local neighborhood which was having their annual shrine festival. He helped us with ordering food, navigating the things to do, and showed us places locals go to pray/give thanks. We will miss him as much as we will miss this beautiful country!!
Sherilyn was exceptional. She customized my tour to fit interests, trimming and dietary needs. She was so knowledgeable and generous my shared her deep appreciation of Japanese history and culture as we moved from site to site by metro and on foot. I would absolutely hire her again.
Monta delivered one of the best travel experiences we've ever had. As a true Tokyo local, he crafted a perfectly customized private tour that went far beyond the typical tourist trail. What set Monta apart was his incredible ability to blend iconic highlights with authentic hidden gems that we would never have discovered on our own. He navigated us through charming backstreets, tucked-away shrines, and local eateries serving incredible food, all while sharing insightful stories that brought the city’s history and culture vividly to life. Warm, engaging, and genuinely passionate about his city, Monta made us feel like we were exploring with a knowledgeable friend rather than just a guide. He tailored every detail to our interests and pace, creating a seamless, enriching day. If you want a deeply personal, insightful, and memorable Tokyo experience, book Monta without hesitation. He’s the real deal. Highly, highly recommended! — Grateful travelers who now love Tokyo even more
This was our first full day in Japan and made for a really good overview for the trip. We were able to send our top choices for the tour so we went to the Imperial Palace, Senso-ji temple, Nakanise-dori temple and Asakusa district. Then took a break for lunch which was sushi. After lunch we went to Meiji shrine. It was a full day.
Our private Tokyo tour with Monta was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. From the moment we met him, he made us feel less like tourists and more like family spending the day with a close friend. Monta was kind, knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly personable. He went above and beyond to make the experience memorable for us, including helping us shop for gifts for our loved ones back home. His attention to detail and genuine care truly stood out. If you are booking a tour in Tokyo, request Monta by name. He provides an experience that is personal, professional, and unforgettable. Thank you again, Monta, for taking such great care of us. Until next time, my friend! 🇯🇵🙏
Knowable and caring to our needs took u s to the market and to the p ark and tea house and was more than willing to take taxis due to my wife’s condition
we had a great Tokyo tour with Monta. He provided lots of helpful information and answered all of our questions about Tokyo before the trip and made our short time in the city very valuable!
We had a local guide, born and raised in Tokio. Very nice and gentle person with highly skilled knowledge about Tokio and Japan. Very experienced in touching the right spots of his customers. The two days with Kay, our guide were unforgetable.
Yuji is a very lovely man. He was able to adjust our itinerary as requested. We zoomed through the subway to access many places of interest. We had lots of conversations that gave us an insight to life in Tokyo.
When taking this tour in Tokyo buy a one day travel pass. Include a visit to the Tokyo Tower and go to the top.
Monta did a great job customizing our tour and answering all our questions. He suggested a number of interesting places to visit, which made the tour easier and more complete. Highly recommend it.
This tour was a fully comprehensive highlight of Tokyo's many shopping and informal dining locations centered around the Ginza in particular. Our professional tour guide (Gab) was very knowledgeable of all of the points of interest that we explored. Gab had a very fun and outgoing personality that made us feel very much at ease during this tour. Gab spoke perfect English and made our excursion very personalized and customized as to the sights that we wanted to see on our tour. This tour had a very convenient pickup and drop off location to our hotel. I would highly recommend this tour and feel that our tour guide Gab made a real point of difference in this excursion.
We had a wonderful time woth Gabriel. He is very knowledgeable and made the experience quite enjoyable for us seeing Tokyo's highlights such as the imperial palace and the Asakusa District. Truly wonderful experience a definite must do.
An excellent tour with a very friendly and experienced guide. Even in the pouring rain, he made the walking tour very enjoyable and was happy to answer all our questions.
Our last full day in Tokyo was our best memory of this city due to our tour with Sherilyn from City Unscripted. Although we had seen many of the Tokyo tourist oriented locations previously with another tour company, Sherilyn provided us with a unique experience that we will treasure. Prior to leaving for Japan, Sherilyn had made contact with us, and based on our preferences, had suggested some places we might want to see. She also helped describe how the trains operated and how we could get a pass to pay for them. This was invaluable and helped ease our concerns on getting around cities in Japan. The night before we met up with her, Sherilyn further customised the tour based on what places we had already visited. Our tour with Sherilyn covered many off the beaten trail places giving us an insight into how the people of Tokyo lived. She had selected stops for refreshments that catered to our vegetarian preferences including a very small tea shop that served a fermented rice beverage that became our quintessential Japanese experience. We also visited shrines and temples that were not overrun with many tourists which helped touch on their serene atmosphere. Sherilyn was a very warm and friendly person and shared information about herself and her family that helped us better understand life in Japan. Over the eight hours we spent with her, she became more of a friend and less a guide.
We enjoyed a wonderful 3 hours with Karina exploring parts of Tokyo we would otherwise not have seen. She was friendly, flexible, highly informative and adapted to our needs with ease and professionalism. I cannot rate her high enough. It was truly money well spent .
We hired a private guide to take us through the Edo museum and up to the Ginza area of Tokyo. Since it was raining, the museum was a perfect start to the tour. Momoko was a wonderful guide who speaks excellent English and will set up any tour based on your interests. She pointed out several hidden gems and shops that we would have missed if we were on our own. We definitely recommend this tour! Thank you Momoko
Monta was amazing. He listened to our interests and tailored the 4 hours to our needs. We saw the tourist highlights mixed with the hidden gems. He shared culture with our interests and answered all of our questions. I would definitely recommend Monta if you want to see and know about the Anime and Manga highlights.
Excellent guided tour which was tailored to our requirements and time limits. Great to have a local to share information on traditions & local knowledge
Very interesting and informative tour. We did this having come straight off the plane and it was absolutely perfect for us.
Our guide, Toshiki, took us on an immensely enjoyable tour around Tokyo including a beautiful walk along the Sumida river. Toshiki catered the tour to our needs and showing us sites that we had not yet visited in our previous days of exploration.
Marek changed his plan on the fly depending on how far we were able to walk. He was very knowledgeable about Japanese history and culture. He explained how religion differed from other Asian countries. Great guide.
We only booked 2hrs. Should have booked 4-6 hrs. Great experience Guide Mami wad very friendly and informative
