I traveled to Tokyo solo and wanted a customized tour since I didn't have much time to see the city. Iain was a fabulous tour guide. He knew the best vendors in the market, took me to some of his favorite hidden gems, and was well-versed in the background and local stories of every place we visited. He was upfront and took care in working with me to plan the ideal itinerary. I also had Oliver, the photographer, join us. I am so glad I added that option. He was unobtrusive, and I got fabulous shots I will treasure. Highly recommend.

Our family had the most fantastic two days in Tokyo with the best local guide ever – Miko. She effortlessly tailored our trip to keep the kids happy while also taking in some of the popular sites. The weather was terrible, but Miko maintained such a positive and fun attitude throughout. We even put her to the test tracking down some very specific “squishies” my daughter was hoping to buy. We never did locate them but that was no reflection on Miko, she really did try her absolute best ringing round all the stores she could find. She also had great shopping and food recommendations, taking us to spots we would never have found without her. We loved how when we looking around in shops or queuing up to pay for something, Miko kept the kids entertained teaching them Japanese words and alphabet. My son loved using the Japanese he’s learnt at school to have a short conversation with her, that was a highlight for him. Miko kindly set us up for our next couple of days in Tokyo by sending us information on how to navigate the trains. We enjoyed our time with Miko so much and would recommend her to anyone visiting Tokyo. Thanks, Miko, from the Yeh family!
My wife and I decided to do this private guide to start our trip to try and get a better understanding before we ventured out on our own. And I can say that Keiko gave us so much more than that! Not only did she give us history lessons on the places we went, she gave a wealth of knowledge on so many other things that now we feel confident to explore on our own. Keiko was definitely well prepared on everything we were wanting to do and made the day fun and informative.
Loved tour with Miko. Had such a nice time.
Niko was fantastic! So kind and took great care of us!
Keiko is a wonder guide. Her English is great which was so helpful. She is lovely, smart and charming. Keiko knows and shared so much fascinating history. She also answered all of our questions and was very personable. She made sure the tour was tailored to our interests and let us set the pace. We travel a lot and Keiko is one of the best guides we have ever had!
Great tour to start our first holiday in Tokyo. Interesting and knowledgeable guide with many exciting things to show. Good summary afterwards
This private walking tour with Miko in Yokohama was exceptional. My family and I booked a private walking tour on June 3rd, 2026, and the tour was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Miko was outstanding. She was well-versed in the history of Yokohama- an excellent storyteller blending the history of the city with some of her own personal history of her time in Yokohama and abroad - we loved hearing about both! On the morning of our tour, there was a typhoon warning, and I know she had to pivot at the last minute regarding some of the things we were going to see and do. I can imagine that behind the scenes it must have been so stressful, but she handled everything with grace, made sure we were still comfortable in the rain and still had a wonderful time! There was a general itinerary, but we also had the freedom to pivot a little if we wanted to (to do some extra shopping and grab some goodies at an amazing bakery we passed in Chinatown!). She was exceptionally kind and welcoming, and by the end of the tour, we were very sad to say goodbye to her because it felt like we were saying goodbye to a good friend! It would have taken at least two days, if not more, to see all the sites shown to us in Yokohama that day (not including all the planning and prep we would have to do beforehand!) I would highly recommend this to anyone considering doing a walking tour of Yokohama! And if you can, request Miko as your tour guide. 🙂
Best experience, great tour with the best guide! Miko knows a lot about everything Tokyo related. If we could, we would give her 10 out of 5 stars!
We had an incredible tour with Keiko. She was warm, knowledgeable and gave us an insightful first day experience exploring old Tokyo and quieter neighborhoods. Not only did she recommend a delicious lunch spot at the end of our tour (which was incredible), she also took the time to follow-up with guidance for our next day’s planned exploration of the fish market and other recommendations! We really appreciate the great photos she took, and her wonderful tour. Would highly recommend Keiko!
Very enjoyable walking tour with inside information about Japan and its culture! Experienced the subway system , some Japanese foods, and learned that this country is punctual, clean and proficient! Miko was very easy to have as our private guide!
Keiko was fabulous and gave us a great introduction to Tokyo. She was knowledgeable and very pleasant to be with.
Ian and Hello Tokyo made our trip very memorable. They spent a lot of time preparing and asking questions before the tour and showed us a great time - it was exactly what we needed. Should also mentioned that Hello Tokyo rebooked us without penalty when our flight was cancelled. Can not say enough nice things about Ian and Hello Tokyo. They are a great value for the price and would not hesitate to use them again,
Quite excellent. keiko was our guide; she was extremely knowledgeable about Japanese history and culture and really friendly - we had great fun and would thoroughly recommend this tour (and of course Keiko) to all
We had a great trip with Nick. He is extremely personable and knowledgeable about a great range of subjects. We learned a lot about what it’s like to live in Tokyo. The fish market was a highlight.
We had the BEST experience with Milo. She was extremely communicative before the tour, flexible, and timely. And was such a great guide, especially with our children. As a former teacher who has lived in several countries, she has a nice way with people and explains things very well. She answered all of our questions and even taught us how to ride the subway. She takes excellent photos also. Highly recommend and we have been on many tours this trip - she was the best.
We had a fabulous giide named Keiko who showed us all around Tokyo for 7 hours. She was terrific. We truly enjoyed our day.
I had a fantastic full day walking tour with Yasu. He is a wonderful guide and knows a lot about Tokyo, Japanese customs, and history. Yasu’s English is honestly better than many native English speakers so there was never any concern with understanding him. I highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for a walking tour in Tokyo.
Iain subbed in for the person who was originally going to be my guide, and I have to think it was lucky for me that he was able to jump in at the last moment and put together a perfect itinerary to introduce me to Tokyo. His knowledge of the history of the city and the various sites we covered was impressive and exactly what I wanted to hear about. In addition, he's just a really good guy who I enjoyed getting to know.
Miko was wonderful! Very informative and friendly! We learned so much about Japanese history while having a fun afternoon. She also chose an authentic Japanese spot for lunch that was delicious. She helped us navigate public transit which was very helpful for the rest of our trip. I’d highly recommend Hello Tokyo and Miko.
We had a wonderful time with Keiko on our Tokyo Tour. As we had limited time in Japan, so we opted for a private tour and did not regret it! Keiko was early when meeting us and was extremely prepared throughout our tour. We saved so much time not navigating around, and Keiko created a great tour itinerary with our requests, and we had some time to spare at the end as well. We visited Gotokuji temple as well as Meiji Shrine and Setagaya Hachimangu Shrine. We had time to stop for lunch along the way as well as to a few gift shops. We are non-fish eating vegetarians, which can be difficult in Japan, and Keiko was prepared with several options for lunch. We really appreciated being taught all of the proper customs and how to be a respectful tourist to these temples and shrines. We could not have been happier with our tour and had an absolutely lovely time on our tour.
Miko was the kindest tour guide ever. She was so knowledgeable about the history and culture of Tokyo and showed us amazing places to eat and get snacks. By the end of the tour, it felt like she was part of the family and I wish we could’ve spent our whole trip with her!
Miko made our time in Tokyo well worthwhile. She was knowledgeable and had a bubbly personality. She was like family with her sweet spirit.
Miko was an incredible and thoughtful tour guide. She was knowledgeable and we enjoyed our time together. I would have spent our whole trip with her!!
We had a great time and this is truly the best way to see the city beyond just the basics. Miko was a joy to be with and took all of our likes into consideration, excellent service all around!
We had a great day touring Tokyo with Keiko. Having spent several days visiting historic sites around Tokyo, we wanted to visit places where we could observe and to experience modern Japanese culture and shopping. Keiko did a fantastic job showing us around and we all had a great day with her.
Keiko was fabulous! So knowledgeable and friendly with excellent English. She was patient when our group of 7 went off track on our full day tour and accommodated our interests. She was an excellent tour guide and also emailed us all after the tour with photos and follow up on our questions or recommendations for our forward travel. I would not hesitate to recommend keiko as a tour guide and I know my whole group felt the same. Thank you Keiko!
A big thank you to Keiko for a wonderful tour of temples and shrines and authentic Tokyo. A very knowledgeable and charming guide and we really enjoyed the afternoon with you. Such a delight to explore your beautiful city. ありがとう
Keiko who was our guide for the walking tour was fabulous. Knowledgeable and caring, it was like having a friend share the highlights of Tokyo with us. We enjoyed customizing the walking tour with her and she was able to relay so much about the history around Tokyo and each area we visited. It was also great that she reviewed the subway system, very easy to navigate but nice to have the explanations. We visited the Tsukiji Fish Market tasting at various places along with way. When wanting an electric fan for our daughter, Keiko took us to Don Quixote where they have literally everything. Visiting the Sensoji temple, Japan's oldest dating back to 628, she handed each of us an origami crane she had made the morning. She included a coin in each that we used when making a wish or a prayer in the temple. We highly recommend Hello! Tokyo Tours.
We did the 5 hour walking tour with Miko and we could not have asked for a better first day in Tokyo! Miko was a friendly and knowledgeable guide that put together a wonderful day to span the interests of everyone in our 5 person group.
The view were amazing. I took lots of pictures. I highly recommend a private tour . Miko my guide was amazing, she took me to great sightseeing and explained things and places, showerd me how to purify and she was pleasant person. I had the best time.
Absolutely wonderful experience! Paiva was fun, friendly and accommodating. We never would have seen and done as much without her as a guide. Definitely recommend!
Would highly recommend a tour with Paiva and this tour company! Easy to book. Very customisable. Got to see the highlights important to our group. Paiva was so friendly, happy to answer any questions we had, helpful (especially in navigating getting train passes and trains) and gave us great information about the sites we visited. Thank you for a great morning seeing the sites in Tokyo and for being such a great guide, Paiva!
We were a couple in our 40s traveling with our 71-year-old mother, and we were so fortunate to have Miko as our guide for a full day in Tokyo. She was such a lovely person, always attentive to our preferences and especially thoughtful towards my mother, making sure she was comfortable and able to enjoy everything at her own pace. Her English was very good, and she even spoke French, which was a wonderful surprise for my Portuguese mother, who prefers communicating in French. Miko took us to many interesting places we would never have found on our own and made sure we tasted some great food at small, hidden spots — a perfect blend of sightseeing and food lover’s tour. This was already our 3rd day in Tokyo, but Miko provided us with so much valuable information about Japanese history and culture, which made the rest of our trip even more rich and enjoyable. We felt more like we were spending the day with a close friend who was showing us around her city, instead of just a tour guide. Miko even went above and beyond by helping us navigate the subway and buy all the train tickets we’d need for the rest of our two-week holiday in Japan — we honestly would have gotten quite confused without her help. Thank you, Miko! We wish you all the best and hope we get to meet again in the future!
We were hesitant to book a tour on our day of arrival to Tokyo, as we knew we would be exhausted from our journey, but so glad we did! Miko was our guide and she was so fabulous. We did a 4 hour tour of the East side and she showed us so many hidden gems during our time together. She was knowledgeable, warm and friendly and really made our first day so special. She also took some great pics of our family and made great recommendations for us. Thank you for a wonderful day!
We had a wonderful five hour private tour with Miko on our first full day in Tokyo, we are big travelers but knew that tackling Tokyo on our own would be a challenge, what we couldn’t have known is not only how easy and enjoyable Miko made it but how much richer our experience was of both the city and for having gotten to know Miko. We loved all her stories, all her knowledge and insights and her kindness and curiosity in knowing ours. She was energetic and thoughtful perfectly paced and organized a tour that achieved everything we wanted. She took us to things we asked to see as well as unexpected hidden gems, and even some spontaneous stops along the way making it feel so personalized and specific. I genuinely felt I was saying goodbye to a friend at the end. I cannot recommend Miko enough. Also as a side note Hello Tokyo struggled to find someone for the time slot we requested but they were incredibly communicative and kind through the process and we are so grateful it worked out! Thank you for our awesome day.
Worked really hard to tailor the tour to keep my kids engaged and meet their food needs. My only regret is we started right across from the Palace Gardens but the guide didn’t ask us if we’d like to tour them and I didn’t know it was an option. I later learned that and would have liked to see them and think my kids would have enjoyed that as well. So it would have been a good discussion and question to ask us since we were right there.
In spite of rainy weather we had a fantastic tour with Paiva. We did the additional boat ride and tea service which were great. We learned how to navigate the subway and got a complete overview of the city in 6 hours.
Niko knows it all. Ask her anything about Tokyo's history, specific sites, etc. she knows it. Friendly, professional, patient, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable. You are in good hands. Plus she knows the best places to eat!
Paiva was an exceptional tour guide on our customized tour even in the rain. We explored many sites around Tokyo using the subway and boat cruise. Our group saw the Sanja Festival which happens the third weekend every May. Hamarikyu Garden Wandered around the garden made for Shogun Tokugawa’s family as a villa in 1654. We had “Matcha” ( green tea) and “Namagashi” ( a traditional Japanese sweet) the best macha I have ever had! We visited Sensoji temple, Tokyo’s oldest temple dating back to 645 and walked through Nakamise Shopping Streets. We visited many more sites. I would give this tour 100+ stars, 5 stars is not enough.
This was a fantastic experience in spite of rainy weather. Paiva knows her stuff, is very professional and took us all around the city. We did add one of a busy ride and tea service which allowed us to have an opportunity to go all over the city. It was very nice to have such a personalized experience
Miko was a pleasure to spend the day with. She was so sweet with my boys and thought of fun little things to do throughout the day that they would like. She was very knowledgeable and help. It was a great start to our trip!
Had a terrific day in Tokyo with our personal tour guide Yasu. Yasu was very knowledgeable and pleasant to spend the day with.
Excellent guide. Not only did Keiko expertly show us the places of interest but also introduced us to japanese customs we would not have been exposed if not for her. She definitely influenced the way we perceived not only the tour but our entire trip. Would definitely recommend.
Keiko was a fantastic guide. She showed us everything we asked for and more. She helped guide us through the subway system and pointed out delicious things to eat. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
We toured Yokohama, on a full day private tour, with Miko. The tour was fun, informative, and friendly. We discussed and learned a lot about Yokohama history, modern Japanese culture and society, and family life. Good food, too. Lots of walking, which we enjoyed.
A friend recommended getting a guide as we only had 4 days in Tokyo and it can be a confusing city - I’m SO glad we did. Our guide Parvia was absolutely delightful. She ensured that we saw everything we were interested in, she was knowledgeable and informative - and fun. We got a Passamo card for the train. We crossed the Nihonbashi bridge and went to Mitsubishi’s department store. We went to the Meiji shrine. We saw the Yogogi national stadium. We crossed the Shibuya Scramble and saw the statue of Hachiko. Pavia left us with lots of recommendations for the rest of our stay - and we dined that evening in an Isakaya she recommended, which was perfect.
Our tour guide Haru did a good job explaining and showing us a few sites around Japan while providing some historical information on each. During our tour we also had the opportunity to experience the train system and discuss the importance of mass transit in Tokyo Japan. Haru was a good guide and I would recommend her and this tour.
Perfect private walking tour of Tokyo. We were able to request the highlights and Yasu, our fantastic guide was able to make it all happen. He was informative, funny and accommodating when the rain curbed our plans.
We signed up for a private walking tour of Tokyo for our family of four. Keiko, our guide, is fantastic. She recommended that we start early since it was hotter than usual. We were so glad that we did, or we would not have enjoyed the Imperial Palace. Our daughter loves Shiba-Inu, so Keiko scheduled a visit to a Shiba-Inu cafe. We also visited Sensoji Temple, stopped by a Matcha place, a fruit kudamono vendor, Shibuya, and the Hachiko statue. Keiko is extremely accommodating and patient with our kids. We love that this tour uses the subway system since we feel that understanding how the system works is part of an experience on its own. We went around on our own for the next few days after that since Keiko taught us how to use the subway well :) We truly enjoy this tour and highly recommend this tour to any family or small groups.
