We had an enjoyable time. Our driver, Puscal was very professional and got us there through busy traffic. We saw a lot of shrines and temples. He waited patiently. We had a great Ramen lunch. We were lucky we saw the colors of the trees changing when we visited the nearby Lake. Van was clean and nice. My wife fell asleep on the way home. Puscal spoke English very well.

Fabulous excursion. Our driver/guide, Areeb, was very friendly and helpful. His explanations gave added flavor to the wonderful sites and scenery. Would highly recommend this trip.
Beautiful scenery!! Ahmed our driver and guide was excellent. He was personable and adapted to our interests and needs. Because it was a holiday weekend the traffic was very heavy and therefore it took 4 hours to drive back to our hotel. He got us back safely after a long day. He made our tour special.
We had a wonderful time. Our guide Haseeb was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and ensured we had what we needed the entire time. Nikko is very beautiful and well worth your time.
Ahamed took us to Nikko and the surrounding areas. He’s friendly and courteous and we had a great conversation along our trip back and forth to Nikko! He helped us with scheduling our time at each site so that we were to able to see all the places we asked to go around Nikko. A great trip.
What a fabulous trip we had in Nikko! My family and I are grateful. Although it was raining, we were able to see everything the itinerary said plus extra. Most of all, our guide Mr. Khan did a fabulous job in guiding us for the entire trip. Not only he shared his knowledge about Nikko, he also took pictures for us and treated us like family. Awesome trip! We can never thank you enough Mr. Khan. We are also thankful to TripAdvisor/Viator for this amazing trip! You are highly recommended!
We had an amazing day with many beautiful sites. Driver (Khan) was fantastic and very accommodating. Nikko is a site to behold. Highly recommend.
We loved seeing the natural beauty of Japan. The historic sites of the temple were outstanding and have huge cultural significance. Our driver was fantastic and drove under very difficult conditions of heavy rain on the way to Nikko. Thanks for looking after us.
Pleasant trip in spite of some traffic. Zia was a friendly and good driver. Very comfortable and clean minivan. Offered water. Helped us get tickets and took some nice pictures of our group
The driver drove safely and had a comfortable car. The problem is with the description of the event/service, hence 3 stars. The terms "guide" and 'english speaking guide" means that they actually guide you through each location/temple and relay information about each. This is not the case. He is just a driver, who has been driving/touring for 6 months. Also, he is not a local of Japan, and while that might not matter, as a guide in a country, I think it does. If you have done a ton of research and know exactly what you need to see and why, this driver will get you there safely. For us, we did only minimum research, so we were disappointed not to have a knowledgeable guide. I asked about the tree species we passed on the 3 hour drive, and he said, 'yes, these are trees.". One occasion, he parked at one temple and said, "when you exit the first building make sure to go to the one behind it. There is another temple". We went to the building behind, but in fact we were meant to walk around the corner down a long gravel path to the mega amazing Toshogu shrine, which we almost missed and def spent less time in it because we spent too much time at the Rinnoji temple not knowing what we should prioritize. The Toshogu shrine to me read like their Lincoln memorial, in terms of importance. That priority was not communicated or "guided".
We very much enjoyed the shrines. Our guide Johny went out of his way to personalize our itinerary so we could spend as much time as wanted there.
Ali I think was our guides name,an excellent host who went out of his way to make our day a very memorable one.
We had a lovely trip with a very professional, friendly and knowledgeable driver. His name: Irfan. Very happy with the service and tour. Couldn’t ask for more!
A return from my first visit in 1947 was most memorable -- the temples are the same, but the towns and cities are unrecognizable. Our guide Mukarram was suburb and his familiarity with Nikko and the best ways to travel from and to return to Yokohama made it all very pleasant. He was a very enjoyable and informative companion.
You book a private tour with the assumption that you have not only paid for a rental car with a driver. You expect an interactive and entertaining tour guide to share their knowledge and experience with you while you spend like 7 hours in the car. That was absolutely not the case as there was almost zero conversation.
Viewing Toshogu Shrine was the highlight of the day. It’s amazing how much work was done and how intricate and detailed the structures are And all of this without power tools and nails. Ali was our guide and he was great. Ali has good knowledge of the area and its history all very helpful. He worked hard shepherding us to the numerous sites in the area. We were able to all the major sites. Still there is so much more to see in Nikko. We plan on coming back again. Colleen Sandy and Erin.
This was a wonderful tour. We have been all over the world and Sebastian is the best tour guide that we have ever had. He was so knowledgeable about all we saw and also a great driver. I highly recommend this tour with Sebastian if you visit Japan.
Bad experience. We don’t recommend this company. We spent 9 hr in a car and we just saw a water fall. We were 6 including two grandmothers , a kid and my daughter who has a disability. The guide didn’t know the itinerary and he didn’t follow the itinerary they offered us. . When we arrive to the unesco site it was closed because he took us as a first place to the falls. We wanted to go to Nikko and the UNESCO heritage site and instead he took us to A place very cold and difficult to walk by because of the snow. . He didn’t even take us The family Pictures as they offered. No organization at all. We asked for a partial refund which I think it’s fair due the circumstances. We traveled from a different country far away and a day in Japan is unique and expensive and if we had known about the lack of professionalism of the company we would have looked for another activity to spend our money and time. This was the company answer.” 😕: “‘ “ We regret to hear about the circumstances surrounding your refund request. Viator strives to make every attempt to address our customers' concerns. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to offer a refund. We apologize that you were not able to fulfill your travel plans, and hope that we may be of service to you in your future travels. The Nikko sightseeing was pretty good!!Our tour guide IRFAN was amazing !!!He was very very knowledgeable about everything!!he is probably one of the best tour guide ever!!!!We enjoyed this tour and able top drive back to the places which tour guide recommended on the tour.Nice trip!!!
I strongly recommend booking a rental car, or perhaps a tour with another company. If you do book on this trip please be firm about what you want to do or you can expect the host to push you into an unwanted or unknown itinerary. This was a very uncomfortable experience, mostly because of our guide Zia. To give him credit, at the end of it he was accommodating and if we strongly said we wanted to do something he made it happen. However, in areas where we were not as sure, he was pushy about making changes to the tour and at several points quite aggressive about it. To begin with, we all got in the car expecting to go to Nikko but he began talking about how the experience we booked was not great and we could go to Mount Fuji instead. This was incredibly strange but we decided to rely on his experience as a guide - this was a mistake for a couple of reasons. One, it became clear later on that one of the main reasons he likes to recommend Fuji is that he gets out of the car more than the Nikko trip. Two, our guide was not aware during his recommendation that there was a marathon on at the area of Mount Fuji we visited that made the entire area much more busy, and had several road closures that dictated visitable areas and caused some delays. A couple of examples of uncomfortable moments. One was on the way to the trip - because we had not planned to go to Mount Fuji, I asked Zia if he could list the itinerary for a second time so I could look into the activities a little bit on the way. He got quite hostile about this out of nowhere saying he had already explained it earlier (when he was convincing us to change from Nikko), I am not sure if he expected us to memorize the new itinerary in that time. Second, just before drop off he told a story that was clearly fishing for tips - it's my understanding this is not customary for Japan. It felt quite predatory and aggressive when he was discussing this as well. I hope the hosts of this trip can improve and be more friendly towards the guests that choose their experience.
Zia is the BEST!!!! We had the most wonderful time. Zia suggested we go to Mt Fuji instead and we were blown away by how beautiful and perfect the day was! Zia brought us to all the great spots and was so kind and generous. Couldn’t recommend him enough!!!!
We had an amazing tour with Zia! He picked us up at the hotel right on time. His van was clean and comfortable. He took us on a tour of a life time. It was the best day ever. He certainly knew everything about our stops. He knew the history of the area, where to go and what to see. It was a full day of excellent sightseeing in Japan. We even had questions on how to take the subway system the next day on our own and he texted us all options available. Zia did this after hours on his time off. He went above and beyond his tour duties. We would definitely highly recommend Zia as your tour guide!!
We had only landed in Tokyo 7 hours before we took our tour with Shahrul so we were a little tired and not sure what to expect. Shahrul made the trip around Tokyo fun and engaging, we couldn't have had a better guide for our first day in Tokyo.
A lovely day out exploring Nikkō. There was so much to see and definitely worth the trip. Yoshi our guide had very good English and made sure our trip ran smoothly and catered to our needs.
We had a wonderful day exploring Nikko despite it being rainy. We had forgotten umbrellas but Haris out guide had some to lend to us. Haris provided explanations of the different shrines and history and suggested restaurants for us to eat at lunch time. He was a great guide and we organised another tour with him off the back of this tour. He was knowledgeable and gave local context to the different areas we visited. A great day!
Yoshi was an excellent driver and he wss very careful, sharing with us many things of the japanese culture and traditions. He made that we felt confortable and very confident. He also recommended other places to go and orher traditional mesls to try. Thank you very much Yoshi and tripadvisor!
We did two day tours to Nikko and Fuji with Live Nippon/Tour Master. They arrange a custom schedule for us for the Fuji tour so that we could go to the Fuji Safari park. Communication was fairly easily despite English being a second language and arrangements were made rapidly. On-the-day communication via WhatsApp was excellent and the people carrier arranged was clear and comfortable. Haris, our driver, was very friendly, punctual and great with our kids! Overall, a very positive experience.
Zohaib our driver made our day trip to Nikki very memorable! We visited the beautiful Shinkyo bridge, spectacular Toshogu shrine complex including the amazing garden ant the base and the breathtaking Kegon falls. Nikko is simply the most beautiful park! Although my mom was in a shoulder sling and had severe arthritis which would have made climbing in and out of the vehicle challenging… because of Zohaib’s help and thoughtfulness to always park by a sidewalk with elevation to help with her climb … she made it in and out of the vehicle and enjoyed the trip immensely!
Shoaib was an excellent driver and guide for a full day tour of Nikko and area from Tokyo for our family of 6. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Japan including of Nikko Toshogu. Live Nippon and Shoaib were very accommodating in customizing the tour for our family, including young children. Nikko is over 2 hours from Tokyo by van, but I would recommend this day trip to get a bit of history and some beautiful views of Japan.
Nikko was well worth the side trip for the Toshugu Shrine alone (one of the best we saw across several cities in Japan). Haris made our trip comfortable, with nice local context and driving skills. He offered to move the car for my elderly parents making their journey more enjoyable. Unlike other day tours to Hakone (and maybe this is because the entry to the shrine and falls are not included so the guide did not come with us), this was more of a driver-as-guide and not a true guide where they explain about the sites and history. The description says there is Wifi on the bus and there was not… a minor detail. Overall an enjoyable day with Haris who was accommodating and friendly.
When I make the reservation for a one day tour, it should include a driver and a guide. There were 7 of us and we paid $902 and the whole bus to ourselves. To our disappointment we only had a driver who knows nothing about the history or culture of the places of interest. His job is to pick us up bring us to the places we need to visit and that’s about it. Anyone out there beware you could fall into this situation like us,
Good weather and self align timing is needed. Great site to visit is the key shrine and kegan falls… recommend to go
Zain our driver, very obliging flexible person. Our previous day Mt. Fuji trip couldn’t see due to fog, Zain determined to show us by taking a different route, we all enjoyed the view, thanks to Zain.
We had a great time today in Nikko. This UNESCO site I and its mountains and waterfall and important shrines are magnificent. Shoaib our driver and guide was knowledgeable, polite and helpful. Nikko is a great day trip from Tokyo and would recommend this Tour to everyone.
We had a great time in the trip to Nikko with our guide Shoaib. The temple was a highlight and so was the lunch. Would recommend this to all tourists visiting Japan
Delayed morning pickup by 1 hour due to trafic. Delayed return by over 1 hour due to same. Nobodies fault & not avoidable but annoying & impacted the day. The morning delay meant we couldn't see as many places as I would have liked. Driver was nice & knowledgeable, but honestly at times did not feel 100% safe with the driving. While it was pretry, Overall we don't think it was worth the money
We enjoyed a private tour to Nikko with our driver guide Rashik. Rashik was professional, friendly, entertaining and informative as he showed us the UNESCO Shinto Shrines, Buddhist temple, Chezunji Lake and more. He adapted the tour to our needs Highly recommend.
I booked this tour without knowing the weather condition in Nikko. Now, I wished the organizer had contacted me in advance about the weather condition instead of changing the tour itinerary on the day of the traveling itself. We were promised a visit to the waterfalls and also the lake. But these visits were scrapped and we were suggested to visit Edo Wonderland instead because of the slippery roads. Now, weather condition is definitely beyond their control. But I wished that they had informed me a day in advance that the tour wasn't possible and either give us the possibility to change destination (somewhere else other than Nikko as they also do a tour to Mount Fuji area) or issued a refund instead. However, I was only inform after the driver has arrived to pick us up. Aside from the lack of communication, the car that they used definitely did not warrant a USD600+ price. It was cramped and very small with little legroom. Wasn't a comfortable 2 hour journey. Save your money and do your own trip by renting a car / public transport. Definitely not worth the price.
Our Tour Guide Shoaib is very professional, He gave sufficient time for us to go around each attraction, and never fail explaining the history. It was a wonderful experience for the kids to feel how is it like at 0 degree celsius. Thank you Shoaib!
Excellent Driver/Host and comfortable vehicle for family day out to beautiful Nikko. Toshogu Shrine was very spiritual and beautiful. We saw Macaque monkeys along the way. Shinkyo Bridge was also very beautiful. We enjoyed some absolutely delicious Japanese traditional barbecue food recommended by our driver along with hot sake and beer. Our driver explained the history and assisted us with everything. There is so much to see and do I would definitely return to Nikko and use this service again.
Pick up was prompt from my hotel and we went straight to Nikko, Japan. Ride was comfortable, plenty of space and great temperature. I was able to see all the sites I wanted to see, even in the pouring rain (umbrella provided courtesy of my guide). I was even able to be flexible and take 40 minutes to have a hand painted dragon made at a small local shop. We then took another ride to the lake and waterfall. Beautiful drive, beautiful place. The guide was kind enough to allow me to attach a GoPro camera and record the journey. Would highly recommend for a group, it was well worth the cost.
This was our second trip touring with our wonderful guide Khizer. We had arrived in to Tokyo amidst all the shutdowns surrounding CoronaVirus fears. Khizer knew what was open and sent me a list of what we could choose from for our day. We chose the Toshugu Shrine complex in Nikko and the Edo Wonderland experience for the day. Both were amazing and having Khizer there with us made it that more enjoyable. He is so kind and accommodating and even offered to help us with information beyond our last day with him. It could have been a very stressful time but he made it a memorable experience that begs for your return to experience more. Hope to see you again soon Khizer!
We had a very nice trip to Nikko. Khiser, our guide was really professional. He know very well the history of the places visited. We recommend him.
Sebbene la pioggia non ci abbia lasciato scampo, grazie alla nostra guida Ghazi Ali la nostra escursione è stata piacevolissima e davvero interessante. Consigliatissimo tour Operator e driver/guida Ghazi Ali
Although the day was rainy thanks to Ghazi Ali it was a wonderful experience. Ghazi Ali was excellent, professional, very courteous and helpful. Highly recommended
Great care!! They canceled my private visit to Nikko the day before without giving any explanation, the only thing they said was that they would refund my money. Very unprofessional, I hope it doesn't have much future as a company.
