Mt. Fuji & Hakone Private Day Trip From Tokyo W/ English Guide

Ryu was our guide and he was amazing. He communicated with us prior to the date of our planned activity in regards to traffic and pick up, and best times to see Mt Fuji. He knew so much about each activity. Highly recommend this activity and if you can get Ryu you are in for a great day.

Prem was knowledgeable about the tour and a very safe driver. He recommended things for us to see, do, and took our pictures. We stuck to the itinerary though Prem mentioned that it's customizable. We had good conversations with him and he's fluent in English. I highly recommend him to others. 5 stars!

Ryu was such a wonderful guide who was prompt and had great time management to avoid the crowds which made the day more enjoyable. His knowledge of Japanese history was amazing and the itinerary he recommended made for a highly memorable day. Mount Fuji was amazing, local restaurant he recommended for lunch was perfect and then to see Fuji after Rye parted the clouds for us to see her in all her glory was a highlight 🗻😉 Highly recommend this tour especially with Ryu.

My family of 4 booked this trip and Aaryen was our driver. He arrived in advance before 5.30am at our agreed timing as he advised us the day before to leave early to avoid heavy traffic and have more time for sightseeing instead of wasting hours in the notorious traffic jams. Aaryen was very obliging to suit where we wanted to go and he planned accordingly the route. We did not go exactly the route shown on Viator but spent half of our day sightseeing and the other half shopping at Gotemba Premium Outlets unintentionally, lots of laughs for our family because we intended to only go there for 3 hours but ended shopping there for 6 hours as it is a really huge shopping complex. Due to this, we exceeded the max hours on the trip but we were fine to pay the fees for the extra hours which the company was flexible to accommodate. Family had an enjoyable day trip out of Tokyo.

We had a fantastic time during our 2-day trip in the Fuji area. Despite the rainy weather, which did not allow us to see Mount Fuji, we visited several interesting places. Ryu was our knowledgeable guide and driver, he was super friendly and added humour throughout the days. Highly recommended!

Our family had a great day out to Mount Fuji and Hakone with our guide Ryu. He suggested we leave early to avoid traffic which was a good idea. He is extremely knowledgeable and has years of experience as a guide in the area. The tour is a good way to get an overview of both areas but if you do have the time I suggest doing Hakone on a seperate day due to travel time between the two areas. It was wery nice, driver took us where we wanted. It was cloudy so we didn't go to the first station of Fuji but the driver took us to a village side and other nice places.

We had an amazing time. Our driver, Ryu, was so nice and informative. He had so much knowledge of the area and history and was perfect for leading our family to a memorable and wonderful experience.

I booked this tour thinking this is a guided tour which it clearly states in the “what to expect “ portion . I don’t know if Viator and the tour operator had miscommunications. Our driver is a wonderful and friendly driver but not really a guide . He was very punctual. He brought us to beautiful places but told us how much time to stay in one place and he stayed in the vehicle or was on his phone . It was not a guided tour . We were pretty much left on our own to explore . I was jealous of the other families whose guides were with them in the temples or shrines explaining things to them . I paid $474.00 for this because of the guided tour but we did not have a guide . Just a driver , very friendly but not a guide . He went with us just to one place and took 1 picture for our family which we’re grateful for . After the tour on the way to dropping us off to our hotel , he was asking for a review on the link that he sent me which he said I need to do in 3 minutes but the link was a wrong tour that costs $400. I was not happy about this . I think Viator sent us to the wrong tour operator . Our driver repeatedly asked me to do the review and I told him I will not review the link since it was the wrong tour and not the one I paid for . Asking me to review the link is not very professional in my opinion . I have the prerogative to review or not and to give review in my own time and not demand my opinion right there and then which I found very offensive . Overall , the experience was good except very disappointed that there was no guided tour for us .

The experience was above our expectations. Our tour guide Mr.Ryu arrive with a warm welcome, a friendly smile and a great attitude. Along with his sense of humor and comedy jokes, Mr.Ryu took his guide expertise and gave us the experience that my family and I would never had expected. Due to weather conditions, two of the attractions had to be canceled but that did not stop Mr.Ryu in working his magic. Split second decision and came up with a better plan to make up the two attractions that were closed. Gave us insights of Hakone and the lakes and was well informative. Best tour guide my family and I had ever experience.

My family recently engaged Xplor Japan on a tour to Mount Fuji, and I cannot recommend it enough, thanks to our outstanding guide, Ryu. There are so many tour providers around, so why should you pick this one? Reasons are: 1) Clear and prompt communication - Ryu got in touch with us the day before to confirm the plans. We were able to inform in advance that we did not want to go to Hakone to minimize travelling time. 2) Knowledgeable guide - Ryu was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating details about the history and culture of Japan. Not only did he provide us with rich insights into the way of life, but he also answered all our questions with clarity. This can only come from a familiarity of the country, having stayed in Japan for a long time. 3) Helpful - Beyond just being informative, Ryu was also exceptionally helpful. He made sure that everyone was comfortable, knew the best spots for photos (and doubled up as our family photographer). He was especially patient with my child, and bought for her fish food for feeding. The tour was well-paced, and the car was clean and comfortable. We covered Oshino Hakkai, Lake Kawaguchiko, Oishi Park and Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nemba, with the last one being our favourite. What was helpful also was Ryu highlighted the Muslim friendly food at these locations. We left the tour with a new respect and understanding for Japan (and some great photos)! If you are looking for an unforgettable experience, I highly recommend this one.

Haris is our tour guide and driver for this trip. He pick us up on time at the lobby of our hotel. His car is clean and comfortable. He is very knowledgeable of each site we visited. He did not rush us, he took our pictures and he even pay for our museum ticket cause we did not have cash on hand. Mt Fuji is beautiful. Added bonus it flurries while we are at the pagoda.

We went on a one day private tour from Tokyo to the Hakone region with Ryu from Xplor Japan. I had a great experience with this company. The communication via email was timely and helpful — they helped me pick an itinerary that would work for my family for the day. Ryu picked us up from our hotel on time. We visited multiple point of view to Fuji mountain , ancient village, ancient trample , ride boat on the lake and finally amazing view on hot sulphur springs valley. Everything was organised perfectly. Nice car, knowledgable, friendly and helpful guide. Excellent places for meals, no queues, no waiting. Would highly recommend this tour and guide.

Ryu was an outstanding guide. He sent us a message to arrange a What's App call the day before to go over what we needed and the tour specifics. He was well prepared, had checked the weather, and briefed us thoroughly. The tour itself is well thought out and well organized. The stop at the Pagoda and Shrine are a nice start to the day. Even though it was cloudy for us and Mt. Fuji was hiding in the morning, it was still enjoyable. Ryu is a wealth of knowledge about Japan and was always happy to answer our questions. Oshino Hakkai is a quaint town with great snacks/food stalls. The ponds are crystal clear and you can get souvenirs if you so wish. Hakone is a nice stop. The cable car had breath taking views up the side of the mountain. The smell is not for the faint of heart once at the top. The sulfur dominates the senses, so we didn't stop long. As we missed the boat tour and didn't want to wait, we made an itinerary swap at the last second and went to the Hakone Open Air Museum instead. This was fun, especially the stained glass cylinder installation. There is also a Picasso exhibit for those that enjoy his style of art. Bottom line - this tour was excellent value for money and a well designed itinerary. Without a vehicle, there is no way to do this by public transport in a day, and you'd miss Ryu's encyclopedia of facts along the way. We learned a lot and had a great time.

We had an amazing trip with Ryu! He was so knowledgeable and we learned so much about the rich history and culture of Japan. Unfortunately it was cloudy and raining so it wasn’t the best day to see Mt Fuji but Ryu took us to amazing spots in and around the area, shrines, great local sushi restaurant, lakes and markets. What an unforgettable experience and I HIGHLY Recommend!!!! Very worth the price and would do it again on my next trip back.

I have always wanted to visit Mt Fuji ever since i was a young kid, and the trip did not disappoint one bit I truly loved every minute. It was such a beautiful place to visit and all of the surrounding areas were also spectacular. It was snowing on Mt Fuji the day we visited which if we could have seen would have been amazing. I would recommend anybody who visits Japan to make Mt Fuji top of their places to visit list. A truly wonderful and never to be forgotten experience. My guide was a brilliant guy who was really knowledge and made the experience perfect for me so i cannot thank him enough. We both I believe had a wonderful time.

We really enjoyed our tour with Ryu. He gave us a great view of life in Japan as well as planning a fun itinerary with lots of information provided. This saved heaps of hassle personally planning the day and getting to and from places within Mt Fuji, and Hakone. He was professional and a great driver. The car was clean, spacious and comfortable for the trip. If I could do it again I would focus the day on Mt Fuji, since my kids didn't want to do Hakone hot springs or the boat cruise, so it would have saved time traveling between the two and we could have spent more time at the museum Ryu took us to. Additionally he helped us locate and arrange shipment of a lost backpack we managed to leave behind traveling Kyoto to Tokyo which we were extremely grateful for. We did this day trip in April 2024, Ryu was a great guide, he got us going early and we were able to avoid some of the heavier crowds, Ryu was very knowledgeable about the history of the places we went to, he made all the stops enjoyable even for the kids. We lucked out with the weather and had clear sunny skies. Vehicle was also very comfortable. Would highly recommend.

Ryu gave us amazing context, history and plenty of guidance! He was flexible and knowledgeable. It was everything we could want in a tour! We went with 3 kids (4,9,11) and he kept them happy, found us good snack spots and helped prepare us well for long walks or drives.

Ryu (our guide) connected a day in advance to work out the logistics and advised us to prep one departure by an hour. Turned out to the best decision with impeccable Mount Fuji views before clouds and / or crowds crept in. The details and perspective he shared on the shrines / monuments / history / culture / current affairs added a new dimension to the experience. And his personal touch will be etched in our memory. The best ice cream parlour near the lake (last stop to our day) accepted only cash and we weren’t carrying any local currency.
