My husband and I did the Japanese Tea Tasting + Matcha-Making and it was the highlight of our trip to Japan! I almost didn’t book this because the original experience I was interested in (the most popular matcha-focused one) was sold out but I’m SO glad we did the Japanese tea tasting. We learned so much with Chisei and loved hearing about his journey as a tea farmer! We also got to try plenty of matcha (and even whisk out own) so we didn’t feel like we missed out at all. 10/10 recommend this experience!

We learned so much about tea plants, tea production, and even how to prepare matcha for casual drinking in lattes. We sampled so many great teas and had excellent matcha and hojicha sweets to round things out near the end!
I can't stress enough how great this experience is. The host knows his tea, and taught us in an inviting and interested manner. He kept our attention (and our palates) throughout. It wasn't just trying 7 types of tea and learn to make matcha. Within the 7 types of teas, and 3 matchas, there were variations in taste with temperature which we experienced. And yes, he taught us how to properly make matcha, which I feel confident I could do now. This was by far one of the best experiences I have had.
Did not expect such an enlightening tea experience. Our tea connoisseur was a tea grower, so lots of knowledge about tea. We had a great class
A really nice experince, can recommend anyone who wants to learn more about tea and matcha and find their own preferances. The owner is very knowledgeable and pleasant.
It was awesome! We learned a lot and could ask as many questions as we wanted. It was a real crash course on Japanese tea. We really wanted to learn a lot so this was perfect, really worth the time. The only thing is that we should have eaten a bit more to balance all the tea we drank, but otherwise it was really perfect, would recommend to anyone with some interest in tea.
This was an intimate, informative and enjoyable overview of Japanese tea - how it is grown, processed, and enjoyed. It was a great experience, with lots of tasting, time to answer questions and make your own matcha the right way. Chisei and his wife were great hosts
What a great experience this was! Both Chisei and Rina were very welcoming and knowledgeable when it comes to tea and all things matcha! I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary!
This was one of my favorite experiences in Tokyo! They provided a wealth of knowledge as a former tea farmer about the tea we got to experience. His wife made DELICIOUS homemade sweets (best I had on this trip!!!) and we even got to eat tea leaves- a delightful experience I did not know was even possible. Overall, book this experience for a unique and meaningful time! We learned a great deal.
We learned a lot of interesting information about tea and were happy we got to try so many different varieties.
Excellent and informative! Chisei and Rina were wonderful hosts and made this experience that much better.
I really enjoyed learning and I found it to be so informative. We were able to drink a lot of great quality Matcha! For foreign travelers- English speaking is good and he goes into the farming process which I find very interesting.
It was engaging, informative, and offered a wonderful glimpse into the cultural richness behind this simple yet significant tradition. I left with a deeper appreciation for both the tea and the mindfulness that goes into its preparation. A passionate and knowledgeable instructor who patiently answered all my questions.
Chisei and Rina provided a wonderful and in-depth experience about matcha. Having been a tea farmer Chisei talked about growing and cultivation from a first hand experience, giving us a new perspective and appreciation. Along with Rina, the two make a great team. A couple of days prior, we received an email which included a short video of how to find where to go within the hotel, which we found incredibly thoughtful and helpful. These are the little touches you will have throughout the experience. When we arrived Rina and Chisei greeted us warmly. From the first moment, they were so kind and friendly, and language isn't a barrier. We sampled many types of matcha learning along the way the process and Rina made delicious sweet treats for us to try. We also got to whisk up our own matcha and had different types of matcha latte - also very yum. At the end, you can purchase some matcha and teas to take home. We did and Rina very kindly provided us instructions on how to make, along with videos - I really appreciate the video touch as it helps understand better. I think anyone who loves matcha and tea would truly appreciate this experience. It was so wonderful and we both look forward visiting again next time we're in Tokyo.
My best experience in Japan so far. Be prepared to learn a lot. It’s good to have a working knowledge of tea. I am a novice but still learned quite a bit.
a wonderful workshop! It was a fun and interesting way of learning about Japanese tea, absolutely worth it and Chisei and Rina are absolutely lovely! 100% recommend
This is one of the best things I did while in Tokyo. Rika and Chisei are wonderful. Their English is very good. And the tasting experience was full of information and great matcha. They also have some wonderful products for sale so you can continue at home. I will be back for their sencha tasting.
Chisei is truly one of my favorite people in Tokyo. I took his class by myself in July, 2024, and since then have brought two separate groups of friends to his tea tasting. It is a hit every. single. time. thanks to Chisei's amazing sense of humor, adeptness at modulating his lesson, and generosity of spirit. His wife Rina was also present at one of the tastings and was an absolute joy to be with. They're so cute together :) Can't wait to bring more of my friends with me on future trips!!
This was absolutely wonderful! We had a private tasting and learned many things about the history and production of green tea and matcha. The host, Chisei, is really knowledgeable and could answer all of our questions easily, while Rinas sweets complimented the tasting beautifully. Even the coffee-drinkers in our group enjoyed it a lot, we highly recommend!
Absolutely, wonderful experience. We throughly enjoyed watching and making our own Matcha. It was something we’ve always wanted to do and we’re glad we did. This is will definitely something you will remember and will want to tell your family & friends about.
Very educational experience. Chisei San is very friendly and proactively ask about allergy condition. We like the class very much.
The experience was very informative and in depth. If you’re looking to expand your knowledge and understand the tea farming process, you’ll understand why there’s different types of teas, and why there’s different grades of matcha. Chisei and Rina do an amazing job of providing a welcoming, and friendly atmosphere. 10/10 would do it again! Make sure to come un-caffeinated because you’ll be drinking a lot of matcha (in the best way possible)!
I tried many tours and experiences in my three week trip to Japan, and I have to say that Chisei was hands down the absolute best at teaching. He had quite the monumental task of explaining the farming and production process of six different Japanese teas, but had extremely clear and informative diagrams and pictures that he skillfully referred to as our discussion unfolded. As I asked questions and made comments throughout the process, he was not only patient but actively nurturing and encouraging of my curiosity, a trait that is so uncommon to find. Chisei is a true gem of a person! His passion and inquisitiveness is contagious—it was such a pleasure to take his class! Count yourself as lucky if you are able to spend a morning in his company, he is a rare find!
Tasting tea accompanied by the explanation for the differences in aroma and flavour. Some nice biscuits also! Thanks
This was a wonderful and refreshing experience! Before, we had very limited knowledge on tea, and now we know so much! Chisei, and his wife, Rina, were very kind and able to explain everything in detail. They gave a refreshing, cold, welcome tea upon arrival (which was good in this heat wave), then went into detail about the teas they will serve, how they are made, and the process of how to make them. Rina even made delicious homemade Japanese sweets and taught us to eat tea leaves with ponzu. Overall, I highly recommend this experience to tea lovers and even those that do not like matcha, because this was a great experience with many different flavor profiles. They were also very nice to have conversation with. Highly recommend!
My family and I had a wonderful time learning about and tasting different types of green teas. This is run by a couple who are very passionate and knowledgeable about Japanese tea. The experience included an explanation of how different types of tea leaves are made, a tasting of six kinds of green tea, matcha making, and tasting of scratch-made tea cookies (which were absolutely divine). We learned so much and also had a lot of fun. Highly recommend for anyone who loves or wants to learn about Japanese tea.
This tea tasting was so amazing. Chisei knew everything about green tea and we learned so much. He was so sweet and detailed about everything. The green tea was so delicious and uplifting. His wife also made us cookies! I highly recommend.
This was amazing! I already knew that there existed different green teas which are based on the same leaves. Chisei, a very friendly and knowledgeable ex tea farmer could show me the different types of cultivation and processing of the leaves and I could taste the different teas and matcha throughout the experience. I learnt a lot and drank a lot of interesting teas. I would definitely book it again!
Fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend this to learn more about Matcha and other teas. Great tasting opportunity with a very knowledgeable guide
Chisei is a friendly and knowledgeable host who does a great job. The experience featured multiple Japanese teas, a welcome drink, homemade wagashi (Japanese pastry), and an overview on how tea is harvested and prepared. I recommend this to anyone who is seeking an intimate cultural experience while also trying different types of tea. Any level of tea knowledge is acceptable. Chisei is extremely friendly and willing to answer any questions. He even has a website to ship some of the teas abroad once individuals finish the experience.
I learned that the temperature of the water and the steeping time differ depending on the tea leaves. I was impressed that the same tea leaves can be delicious when brewed at the right temperature and time. Personally, I really liked Japanese black tea. It was refreshing and went perfectly with sweets.
I participated hoping to have a truly Japanese experience. First, they served me cold-brewed Japanese black tea, which smelled like Belgian wine and was very delicious. They also explained the other four types of tea using handouts, which made it very easy to understand. The contrast of the tea poured into the shot glasses was beautiful and made me feel very happy. Of course, the tea was delicious. Thank you very much.
It was my first time experiencing matcha, and I was impressed with how carefully I was taught. Mr. Tanaka, who taught me, used to be involved in cultivating Uji matcha, and he explained the differences in cultivation methods in detail. It was a good opportunity to discover a different charm to the Japanese tea I usually drink. I would like to participate in other experiences in the future.
I decided to participate because I've recently become interested in drinking tea. I knew the names of genmaicha, hojicha, sencha, and black tea, but I had no idea what the differences in their definitions were, and they explained that to me in a very detailed way. I'm looking forward to drinking the Japanese black tea I bought at home!
I came to Tokyo on a trip with my family and we had the chance to try Japanese tea! Although I have a small daughter, we were able to relax and enjoy the aroma and taste of Japanese tea while listening to a talk about Japanese tea without any hesitation in the quiet store. I'd definitely like to bring my daughter back here again when she's older!
Until now, I'd always poured tea with boiling water, but I never imagined that the brewing method could change the taste of tea so much. The genmaicha and hojicha tea had a beautiful aroma and were delicious. The owner, a former Uji tea farmer, is very knowledgeable about tea and answered all of my questions. I bought some tea to take home so I could try brewing some delicious tea myself!
I searched for experiences available in Tokyo and decided to try comparing Japanese teas. The owner, a former tea farmer, is full of love for tea and explained things to me with great enthusiasm. There was also a matcha brewing experience, and he taught me how to make it properly. It was my first time, but I was able to make it well. It was fun!
I tried a comparison of five different types of Japanese tea. The owner used to be a tea farmer, and was very knowledgeable about cultivation and processing methods. I had no idea how to brew sencha, but he explained it carefully and now I can brew it myself. I bought a teapot and sencha, so I'll be brewing tea at home from now on. I'm very satisfied.
I learned how to brew Japanese tea and how to prepare tea leaves, and it made me want to know more about tea. All the teas I tried were delicious, and they gently taught me how to make tea, so even though it was my first time, I was able to make it well. The matcha sweets were also delicious and very rich. ✨ Actually, I'm not a big fan of matcha, but the matcha here tasted delicious.
