Sano Inbo were amazing and patient craftsmen in instructing our hanko making class. They even facilitated some Ateji /seal-script requests before hand (which would not have been possible without Keiji[below]). The kind offering of a break with light refreshments was a very thoughtful touch. Learning about the long family tradition of tenkoku/hanko was a special aspect. Sano Inbo’s respect in the community was witnessed first hand as a few school groups came during the class. Children inquired about the trade, with questions answered with pleasant patience and kindness. After our work efforts, they even made some minute detailed adjustments to really put the finishing touches on our stamps. Keiji was a wonderful guide for our experience. His broad experience and many language talents made us feel completely at ease to really participate in our activity. Warm and friendly with both local and world knowledge, he expertly facilitated the experience. Conversation with Keiji during the class was meaningful and convered aspects of culture we really enjoyed. We could not be more impressed or more satisfied with every facet of the experience. TLDR: 100% complete satisfaction, amazing experience. Perfect facilitation by our translator Keiji. A cultural contact class worthwhile.

Itinerary
Meet at a traditional hanko shop in central Tokyo. Begin with a short introduction about the history and cultural importance of hanko (Japanese name seals), and learn how they are still used in daily life. Next, based on your name, interests, and preferences, decide which kanji characters to use and create your own original design. With support from the shop staff, try carving your hanko by hand. No prior experience is needed—the process is beginner-friendly and safe, with expert assistance provided throughout. Discover how Japanese craftsmanship values patience and precision as you bring your seal to life. Finally, finish your stamp and make your very first impression using traditional red ink. Take commemorative photos and receive your completed hanko in a protective case, ready to take home as a one-of-a-kind cultural souvenir.

Unique experience, quite relaxing we felt totally welcomed! Awesome way to learn, best place to do so.
What an AWESOME experience!! I had so much fun and Sally was just absolutely wonderful. Overall such a wonderful way to spend a couple hours in Tokyo
Leo was an exceptional guide. This was a truely special experience. I highly recommend!
Yuragi was very helpful in booking this experience. I encounted some technical booking issues but they were very helpful and responsive via email and we were able to get everything worked out. Our guide was at our meeting point and was helpful throughout the process of stamp creation.
This was an incredible experience unlike anything else in Tokyo. HANKO stamps are ancient parts of Japanese culture and are still part of the modern identity. Getting to learn about and carve a stamp under a master artisan was an incredible opportunity. Truly a highlight of my time here.
Perfect Hanko class with very friendly guide and shop owner. 10/10 would recommend!
It was great they helped us very well and if we made a mistake it was fixed. They were very nice and funny. Ps: the Jung man who translated in English knows some memes😁.
This was such a unique experience! The staff were extremely friendly and even gave us local restaurant recommendations! They made me feel very welcome. I would highly recommend this.
It was a great experience and very intimate. We did the activity on the counter right next to the owner . The price is definately worth the experience especially since you get to make and take your own HANKO with you. A superb unique souvenir. You have plenty of time to make your HANKO, there was no rushing at all.
We had so much fun making our own hanko. And along the way we learned about this amazing art form. Time and money well spent!
Absolutely wonderful. Our guide was fantastic and very friendly. He made the experience very enjoyable. Thank you so much for a memorable experience.
An amazing experience Mari is so nice and helpful! Sat down with us the whole experience and helped us communicate with the teacher! We had a lovely conversation about the Hanko seals their origin and the amount of time it takes to become a master! Overall an amazing experience I would recommend to everyone!

This was great! We got to practice first, then carve the kanji we chose with advice and guidance and help from the master. Great way to spend a little time and have a great souvenir!
Thank you for a graceful workshop. Highly recommended.
What a fantastic experience carving our own hankos as a family. We learned a great deal about the art and cultural aspects of hanko making. Our instructor spoke mainly Japanese but our guide Hina who stayed with us through the whole process was an able interpreter. Our two teenagers had a blast with this activity and we have some really great souvenirs as well! Would highly recommend you all give this a try if you’re looking for something hands on, a little more unique and fun for the whole family.
It was a fantastic, unique experience! We were guided through the workshop in a competent and warm manner. Thanks to the interpreter, there was a great exchange between the artists and us. The workshop is very worthwhile; it is an absolute heartfelt recommendation.
