We had a wonderful time learning how to write kanji characters. Our teacher was very friendly, helpful, encouraging, and enthusiastic! Instructions were clear and simple, and all our questions were answered quickly. She took pictures of us while we practiced. We were able to practice many times before writing on our final framed board. Super fun and a great souvenir to take home!
Very enjoyable session done as a part of a group tour of Japan. I would recommend it. The teachers were encouraging and made it a fun experience.
We came as part of a tour. I didn’t know what to expect but i was pleasantly surprised. We sat at tables of 5. We had a main instructor and each table had assistants. Each person had supplies set up with a calligraphy brush, ink bowl and practice paper. The main instructor taught us how to hold the brush and we formed our first character together. Afterwards, they gave us several words to chose from To practice calligraphy. It was such a great experience, we had a lot of fun as a group admiring each other’s work and the assistants were very encouraging. We got to make our final piece on a board for a souvenir. I would recommend this wonderful cultural experience. It helps to appreciate the beautiful art of calligraphy.

This was a very fun, hands-on experience. We learned a lot while having a great time! The instructor was wonderful, spoke great English, and made this a very enjoyable activity for all of us. We are going home with art worthy of framing.

My family of 4 took a calligraphy class with Chie. She was kind, energetic, and an amazing teacher! She spoke wonderful English, so communicating was no issue. We had a wonderful class and would recommend it to anyone! We got to make many pieces of artwork, and even got to make a canvas to bring home! She even made us all personalized artwork!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our calligraphy experience during our time in Tokyo. The hosts were extremely gracious and kind. It was taught at a great pace. We even got a memory to take home- a personally done word on a hard board. Highly recommended experience. There was also a food and shops alley nearby that offered many local options to try.
I enjoyed the experience. I would have liked to have more instruction on how to move the hand to create the strokes correctly. Teachers were very nice and patient! The set up was peaceful and comfortable.

I never thought that this could be such a peaceful and relaxing experience - calligraphy class was so cool, and sooooo much fun - it's almost like painting rather than writing We came here as part of our organized tour with our company so I can't tell what the cost is but it's worth your time for certain - people here are super nice and also very peaceful, they further enhance the relaxation aspect of this experience. You get to learn to the "strokes" on some "test paper" and then you get a final piece on a square that is a nice type of paper/frame to actually get to keep with you as a souvenir - very pleasant surprise. It's cool to learn the words and how they change but the coolest thing was that we all thought that you want to perfectly mimic each sign whereas in reality every person's style speaks through how they draw their letters - I thought it was super personal in that way, something like our handwriting but here the objects are bigger and you can see it better on black and white :) If this was back home I would even consider this for a DATE type of idea - I thought it was very personal and romantic in a way :P TIP: this is next door to Yanaka Ginza - the Cat Street with many vendors and cat outside/inside decor, I am not a cat person but I found it funny and enjoyable to stroll through it, especially since you are right here!

Amazing authentic experience. Chie, our instructor was patient, attentive and very kind. We learned a lot and got to work on several calligraphy projects. In the end we were able to bring home some of our work as souvenirs of a once in a lifetime experience. I highly recommend it for individuals and families! It’s near Tokyo National museum if you want to add that to your activities.

A very welcoming experience. Sensei was very skilled, and very gracious with our inexperience. We had enough practice in an hour or so to understand the challenge of calligraphy and make some progress. We did a one hour calligraphy lesson with the marvelous Chie. she was patient and enthusiastic it was a wonderful experience and despite no previous experience, under chie's thoughtful guidance we managed to produce a Kanji that is going up on the wall. I wish we lived in Japan and could come for a weekly lesson.
I was very impressed with Saori, our instructor! She was informative, patient and sprinkled the lesson with some humor. You'll learn a bit about the history of Kanji and have fun practicing the art along with some smiles at how aweful your art will be at first. The experience is well worth your time and the studio is in a historic and quaint area of Tokyo with many small shops.
Chiē, our sensei for the calligraphy lesson, was really kind, patient and explained us how to do calligraphy step by step. We experienced before the final result and she was perfectly guiding us to understand where we did mistakes. I highly recommend to spend time with Chiē to learn more about a part of japanese culture!
