Our award-winning tea ceremony in Tokyo offers both cultural enjoyment and meaningful learning. Guided by a professional tea master and friendly staff, you'll observe each step and discover the meaning behind the tools, movements, and traditions of this centuries-old ritual. You’ll also gain insight into the history of the tea ceremony, Japanese culture, and proper tea etiquette. You will then prepare your own bowl of matcha, carefully whisked under the tea master’s guidance. This hands-on moment allows you to experience the calm, focus, and hospitality at the heart of Japanese tea culture. A selection of elegant kimonos is available, and our staff will assist with dressing to ensure a refined appearance. Wearing a kimono enhances the authenticity of your tea ceremony experience. Please note that children under 6 are not permitted. If your group includes a child under 6, we kindly ask that you refrain from booking this activity. Tripods are not allowed during the ceremony. Was amazing the tea ceremony was so informative and everyone was so nice. This was the highlight of our trip!!
A great cultural experience with the tea ceremony and the historical relevance of the ceremony in Japan. After wearing the kimonos we were able to take picture in the upstairs garden and throughout the street. Was a great experience would recommend!
It was a fun and informative experience. We were dressed in kimonos, learned a lot of history and perspective, and really enjoyed the ceremony. I recommend it!
This was a once in a lifetime event! We learned so much and had such a great time being able to dress in the traditional Japanese clothing! Our pictures turn out great and it was truly a wonderful time!
This was an exceptional experience from the moment we arrived. We were treated like true guests of the house. The kimono dressing process was so thoughtful and fascinating with this beautiful and attentive group of women. The tea ceremony was meticulously performed and we learnt so much about the history and culture of the ceremony. Just a wonderful way to be immersed in Japanese culture for a few hours. Highly recommend. Do double check the location details when you book. I accidentally booked a location different to where we were staying which didn’t matter in terms of experience but did mean a long Uber ride.
Fantastic experience with well educated and friendly staff. Would do it again
I learned a lot about a tea ceremony and the experience was fun and fulfilling. I loved the kimonos
Wonderful experience. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Loved wearing the kimono Overall a great cultural experience
Lovely experience dressing in a kimono and learning about tea ceremony. Would highly recommend to everyone.
Excellent. Easy to find. Good English spoken. Vast choice of kimonos etc for men and women. Professional dressers (best if you strip to underwear but not essential ). Lovely tea ceremony with all the ceremony explained. You do not have to kneel. You can ask for a low chair or a high one (dining type chair). You are taught to make your own matcha tea. Lots of photo opportunities. Really lovely experience.
Absolutely amazing experience! This will be a highlight of my trip with my daughter. They do an amazing and efficient job of getting you dressed in a beautiful kimono and traditional wear, performing and explaining the Tea ceremony and enlightening you about Japanese culture.
Wonderful experience Japanese culture is beautiful. So much fun yo wear the Kimonas abd kearn about the history of the tea ceremony. Thank you
Wonderful experience! Highly recommended! Gorgeous kimono that you get to wear after the ceremony as you site see around Tokyo!
Beautiful experience, would highly recommend . Wonderful lesson into the history and culture. So nice to get fitted with a kimino & have hair done to appreciate the care & time it takes. The staff are amazing!!! The teacher for the day was so sweet!
Lovely and professional staff, making the experience one of a kind. They dress you up in kimono, make up your hair, take pictures and then you get to the ceremony - they explain everything in detail and there is a lot of very interesting story telling. The ceremony itself is around 45 minutes, there is 1 minute meditation, you get to make tea yourself too. The best kimono and tea ceremony experience in Japan!
10/10 experience, hosts are really kind. Really enjoyed the experience.
This was a fabulous, fun and informative experience. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed dressing in a kimono of our selection and having our hair styled then stepping into the matcha tea ceremony. I’m so pleased we booked this.
Excellent time, great hosts, Shawn was great. Very authentic and educational. Definitely wear the kimono.
We were welcomed immediately upon entering and taken upstairs to be dressed in our Kimono. We picked out the one we liked and was quickly dressed and then they styled our hair. They were all very kind and friendly. We were then taken to a room where one of the ladies took some nice pictured of us with our camera. We were then moved to the tea ceremony room. the 'host' came in and she was really sweet, she told us a bit about tea ceremonies and taught us how to make matcha. We made our matcha and enjoyed 2 sweets that were offered. After the tea ceremony, we took some pictures in the little garden area outside then we were allowed to walk around the town in our traditional Japanese outfits. It was a wonderful experience.
A wonderful tea ceremony experience! The atmosphere was peaceful, the host was welcoming and knowledgeable, and the whole experience felt very authentic and memorable. It was definitely worth the price, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone wanting to experience traditional Japanese culture.
This was my favorite thing I did in Tokyo!!! It is always fun to dress up. Everyone who we interacted with was fantastic and the woman who lead the tea ceremony was extra special. I highly recommend it!!
10/10 experience i would recommend.. it's also a 4 min walk to the senso ji temple and you can get more pictures there
This was one of the most special experiences of our trip to Japan! From the moment we arrived, everything felt incredibly thoughtful, authentic, and beautifully presented. Being dressed in a traditional kimono before the tea ceremony made the experience feel even more meaningful. The entire process was so beautiful, and learning about the traditions and significance behind the ceremony gave us a much deeper appreciation for Japanese culture. The atmosphere was peaceful and elegant, and every detail was handled with such care. It felt like we were being welcomed into a tradition rather than simply attending a tourist activity. We absolutely loved the experience and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Japan. If you’re looking for something memorable, cultural, and truly special, this is an experience you should not miss! 🇯🇵🍵❤️ We will remember this experience for a very long time!
The kimonos were beautiful and the ladies who helped us get dress and styled our hair were really nice, efficient and talented! We loved our looks! The tea ceremony was beautiful. You can’t video record but just watching it and trying matcha tea for our first time was a great experience. 10/10 recommend
Amazing experience. I really enjoyed this learning experience. Understood the process and background!
Amazing experience! Once in a life time that is absolutely worth going to!
This was a unique and informative cultural experience. You get to dress up and experience a real Japanese tea ceremony.
It was wonderful! They let us sit comfortably and was very informative. The ladies told her k so many pictures of us. Great time!
We had a lovely kimono tea ceremony experience. The tea ceremony was calm, beautiful and enjoyableand we had a great time taking photos in our kimonos. A wonderful and memorable experience in Japan
We loved dressing up in the kimonos and you get to pick your own outfit in colours which suit you. You are allowed to keep the kimono after the ceremony has finished to walk around the local area and take photos which my teenagers were thrilled about. The ceremony itself was educational and we learned the traditions and why they are followed such as why you turn the tea bowl certain directions. Our host was very elegant and spoke excellent English. Group size was maximum of 10 people so small and intimate so you could ask questions. We have had many compliments on the photos we have taken and shared.
Very fun and informative experience. Our host Mia was very friendly and helped take pictures of us afterwards. I would definitely recommend this activity. They also let you stay with the kimono for the rest of the day!
The experience was great! I loved our guide. She was so funny and her name was Wakana. She taught us about the history and she taught us how to make our own Matcha. We also got little sweets that were delicious. Overall I loved it and would go again!
Dōmo arigatō gozaimashita, Wakana! You gave us an unforgettable tea ceremony. You explained the rich history of tea culture in such a memorable way that it came to life. To enter the tea house, a samurai had to bow low, leave his swords behind, and step into a place where peace mattered more than power. Wakana made that history come alive. She explained every detail with such warmth, humor, and passion that I wasn’t just listening, I was transported. Watching her whisk the matcha into a vibrant green froth and present it with such precise, graceful movements was mesmerizing. Every gesture, from the careful turn of the bowl to the elegant placement of the ladle, felt intentional. I truly felt like royalty. I even left confident I could make a frothy matcha with a proper bubble slurp for my own guests! A standing ovation to all the ladies who helped us into our kimonos. They were incredibly patient while I braided and bunned my locs, helped me accessorize, and truly made me feel like a princess. Traveling solo, I especially appreciated that Wakana took beautiful photos of me on the patio so I’d have lasting memories of such a special day. Her lighthearted humor and warm personality made the room feel so welcoming. This experience will stay with me for a very long time, and anyone who asks me what they should do in Japan will hear one answer from me: Kimono Tea Ceremony MAIKOYA Nishiki.
Such a fun experience, much better than even expected!! Being dressed in a kimono on our first full day in Japan and getting to wear it around Asakusa for several hours after the Tea Ceremony was soooo fun and not expected at all. WE LOVED IT!! A very fun memory. The Tea Ceremony itself was well-explained and interesting. The staff were kind and concerned and moved our seats when I was not able to see well. Over-all a great and fun experience! Well worth the money. DO IT!! A note on location - the place is a little hard to find using Apple Maps, especially if you try to find it the night before after business hours. Never-fear! Leave extra time the next day; they have signs out during business hours that help!
Absolutely phenomenal experience. Complete immersion into Japanese culture. A must do when in Tokyo.
Wonderful experience with this place!!! The kimono looked so pretty! Friendly staff members. Highly recommended!!!!
First time doing the tea ceremony. Everything is great especially wearing the Kimono outfit while learning to make tea. Highly recommend. Little tip—do not book the last session because they will be close and will not allow you to wear the clothes to outside because they have to close the shop.
Great experience We loved it Don’t miss this activity It was very nice We went as a family and dressing with kimonos was awesome.
We loved our experience: selecting kimonos, getting the background on the tea ceremony, the delicious tea and treats - it was all great. As an added bonus, we got to wear the kimonos to Asakusa shrine and take some lovely photos at no extra charge!
this was an outstanding experience. relaxed but all the essential elements of a traditional tea ceremony. we had family members of various sizes (up to 3x) and everyone was outfitted in a lovely way in a kimono. We were able to wear the kimonos out and about all afternoon until 6 pm. there was a small shrine almost next door that provided a place for pictures. I really appreciated how we were treated. valuables were safe, as you kept them with you.
It was a really great experience. Me and my family had a great time. The kimonos were beautiful, the host was very pleasant and the matcha was delicious.
We had an early time slot at 1000. Best to go early. I didn’t know this but we were able to leave after the tea in our kimonos. We didn’t have to be back until the evening to return them. So we were able to walk around Tokyo and take pictures dressed up. The experience was so fun and my daughters loved it. The ladies who dressed us were so kind and it was a great experience. I would highly recommend.
pleasant, informative and gives great pictures. Love the kimono color options. i recommend this activity
The Tea Ceremony was vey educational and informative. We received a thorough description of the history involved and a wonderful demonstration of what was described. The tea was awesome. Kimonos were nice. Great location - Sensō-ji Temple, Asakusa Shrine are very close.
Absolutely a must do experience. Host was wonderful n the ladies who helped dress up were so patient.
Natsumi was so kind to explain to us all about the tea ceremony and the translation of all the kanjis . Creating our own matcha tea was really good and trying the snacks was also great . I hughly recommend
The tea ceremony and kimono experience were among the best activities I did in Japan. From the moment we arrived, we could already feel the traditional atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. From helping us with our kimonos to the end of the ceremony, our guide, Wakana, did an amazing job. She taught us so much, made us feel comfortable, and even took many pictures for us. Keep in mind that we were a group of seven, and she still handled everything with so much patience and a smile 😅. She is truly talented, and her tea ceremony was wonderful. I highly recommend this experience and the visit overall. 10/10!q
A lovely introduction to Japanese tea ceremony culture with a bonus of dressing up in a kimono. The whole experience runs for around 90 minutes. Small groups made it easy to hear the explanations.
The experience was wonderful. However, if you are a medium or large in USA sizes the selection is minimum the choice selection is not great!
