Fun food-prepping experience in Tomokita’s kitchen. She was delightful, had all the necessary ingredients prepped and measured out so we could concentrate on the procedures and timing to make ramen and gyoza.

You’re such an amazing cooking teacher! The best ramen and gyozas I’ve ever had, and the miso eggplant and pumpkin salad were absolutely delicious. You make everything look so easy and fun! I’m definitely going to try making the pumpkin salad for my family in Spain this Christmas. Let’s see if I can make it half as good as yours. Thank you for such a lovely experience!
You will be fully immersed in a japanese culture! I truly enjoyed strolling in a Todoroki valley which was so much peaceful. Also, you’ll learn some cooking skills in a cozy and beautiful kitchen. Further, you’ll be fully guided by an amazing cooking teacher! :) With her help, you can create the best home-made japanese dish. I was so happy that I booked this class. I can confidenly recommend this class to anyone else! :)
My family of 4 had a wonderful experience. Tomoko was a generous host. We learned so much, laughed often and enjoyed the food. Delicious! Cost $458 for 4 adults Visit length 3-4hours ( with walk and tour of local sites) Atmosphere - welcoming
Tomoko´s home cooking class in Todoroki Tokyo is many many amazing things, and ultimately, one of if not the most special experience on a 4 week trip through the country. Spent about 4 hours researching the right class, and it was just perfect. Here is why: First this is truly a cultural experience (walking through the wild gorge to the class, cooking with clean seasonal foods in a traditional way, visiting the nearby temple, admiring the gardens and sakura trees). This brings a lot of context to everything, particularly understanding that Tokyo offers this rich side of nature, culture, and harmony even today. It was guided with grace, and as a trail-runner, I was amazed at the walk in the gorge. Was right up there with several of the national parks we´d been to. Secondly the class is also a gateway into the special cooking secrets of Japan - I say secrets - because as an American-European, we just do not get exposure to a lot of the ins and outs of Japanese cuisine - and from understanding the simplicity of a delicious miso, the types of miso paste to use, how to incorporate it, etc. , and making dashi from scratch- the base of so much goodness in the kitchen - to then later seeing how these bases flow into making a ponzu sauce for seasonal wild sea bream, to making a tofu steak glaze, using mirin and cooking sake...all of this is exactly what I´d want to learn to understand how to start cooking Japanese food at home. Tomoko explained everything with elegance, warmth and patience, and literally prepared several dishes at my request in advance that we could dig into, customizing the menu we worked on creating, while maintaining the core....Highlights - trying the seasonal edamame for the silken edamame mousse and plating it, trying homemade ume wine, preparing the fish by steaming it, seeing how sea bream is made so deliciously. Perhaps in the most special way the class is like talking to a long-time friend welcoming you into their home. Tomoko has traveled so much and has so much knowledge and experiences, it was great to just chat a whole bunch and also hear about her joy for teaching others - was so cool! It was the best thing I did on my visit to Tokyo by far, gave context to the trip, got me more engaged and more knowledgeable about the meals we were eating, and excited to immediately start to learn and implement some of the techniques. Since the experience, Tomoko followed up with a lot of guidance, suggestions on what to buy for gifts, for the kitchen for friends and for ourselves, and just one week after the course, and back home, already trying to ingrain and enjoy what I learned. Don´t hesitate to book an experience with her. Thanks so much Tomoko!
Tomokita meet us at the station and we have a lovely walk along the river to her home. She is an excellent teacher patiently showing us how to prepare the items in our meal and cook them in her kitchen. The meal was fantastic and we learned much about the Japanese way of food shopping, meal prep, cooking and cleaning. It was a great insight into daily life of a Japanese family. On the walk back to the station Tomokita took us to her local grocery store and showed us some of the key ingredients she used to make our lunch. It was a great experience. Well worth the travel time to her home and most definitely would do again.
Tomoko reached out to us shortly after booking to confirm details and plan a meal. She was very organized and communicative. On the day of our experience it was raining and Tomoko offered us the option of a ride with her husband and private vehicle. Thankfully the rain wasn't too bad and we decided to walk, as the secluded path along the river was beautiful. She welcomed us into her home with warm drinks and sweets. We then prepared chicken teriyaki, miso soup with homemade dashi, cucumber salad, a Japanese vinaigrette and a quick dip made from miso and ground sesame seeds. She was eager to prepare this last item with us after we shared how much we enjoyed it at an izakaya the night before. The meal was rounded out with rice, a green salad and a coffee jelly dessert Tomoko had prepared in advance. We enjoyed our meal with pleasant conversation and stories from Tomoko. My wife and I also had the opportunity to try her homemade plum wine along with a few of the plums from the jar. This plum wine was by far one of the best things we ate/drank in our visit to Japan! Shortly after leaving, Tomoko sent us digital copies of recipes not only for the dishes we prepared together, but also other meal options travelers commonly request. The entire experience was positive, and we hope to visit Tomoko again some day!
This is our second visit to Tomoko san’s home and attend her cooking class. ingredients are well prepared and we learnt how to cook pork cutlet curry rice and cream roll cake. tomoko’s san instruction are clear and easy to understand. we always love spending time with her together when we visit Tokyo.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our day with Tomoko. Not only were the gyoza and ramen that we made delicious, but Tomoko was so much fun to talk with. We ate a lot, drank homemade plum wine, and laughed a lot too. Tomoko, thank you again for your hospitality and inviting us into your home! Happy Wifeee, Happy Lifeee!!
I attended the vegan/vegetarian class and the fluffy Japanese pancake classes solo. Both times I was met at the train station, and we walked back to the Tomokita san house, and I had a great class where I learned about the food she had brought and how to prepare it. Tomokita had thought of everything in order for it to be a smooth and enjoyable experience. From the bottle of water at the train station, on a hot summer's day, to tea upon arrival. The food we made together was delicious, and I was able to replicate all the dishes back home thanks to the clear teaching. I loved the first class that I came back again. Tomokita san is a great teacher and a very friendly person. I highly recommend this workshop to everyone.
We spent a wonderful 3 hours in a neighborhood near Tokyo by subway. Our adventure began at the subway station, continued with a visit to the Todoroki Fudōson Temple, and passed through the most beautiful gardens of the valley. Then, at a Japanese home renowned for its hospitality, we learned to cook our own meals and enjoyed a lovely lunch. Now we'll be making Ramen and Gyoza at home to commemorate this beautiful day. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoys cooking. Thank you,
The whole home cooking experience was fantastic. We met at the Metro station and walked together through a beautiful shrine and garden to Tomokitas home. After a short welcome drink we started the well prepared cooking class. We chose Ramen and Gyoza. Tomokita has a really big knowledge and was happy to share it with us. Thank you for the delicious food, the heartful atmosphere and all the recipes. We are looking forward to use them for our Japanese evening with friends and family. Best regards, Katrin and Florian
This was the third time we visited Tomoko Sensei for a cooking class, as always it was exceptional—a truly memorable part of our trip to Japan with our parents! Before the class, we had the opportunity to discuss with Tomoko Sensei the specific dishes we wanted to learn. She tailored the course to our preferences, dietary needs, and seasonal ingredients, this time focusing on home-style vegan ramen and gyoza. Tomoko Sensei even designed a new ramen recipe just for us. Getting to Todoroki Station by train was straightforward, and that's where we met Tomoko Sensei. She took us on a stroll through the stunning Todoroki Valley, which was a highlight of our Tokyo trip. We were fortunate to see the breathtaking scenery of yellow and red autumn leaves carpeting the valley floor.Upon arriving at Tomoko Sensei's house, we were greeted by a beautiful and warm home. After enjoying some delicious drinks and tea that she provided, we began our cooking lesson. Tomoko Sensei meticulously guided us through the steps for each dish. The final results were a great success, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal together. The dishes, fruits, desserts, and sake prepared by Tomoko Sensei were scrumptious. Sharing stories with her was a joy, and we greatly appreciated her sharing the recipes and preparing thoughtful gifts for us. It truly was a delightful afternoon.
We were a family of 4 adults and had such a great time making Japanese hot pot (Oden), Japanese fried chicken (Karage) and seasonal veggie side dishes. The dashi broth was amazing. Tomokito gave us all the recipes and we were so impressed by her homemade preserved plums and plum wine. She is so welcoming and a great teacher. The meal portions were substantial and delicious. We had so much fun and learned so much to make again at home. Highly recommend!!
Outstanding experience! The menu was delicious. I can't wait to try the recipes at home. Tomokita helped us buy some of the ingredients unique to Japan at a grocery store after class.
The cooking class of Tomoko was really a wonderful experience. I have been to Japan several times but it was the first time for me to have such a class. First, the organisation is perfect. The meeting point is very easy to find. Tomoko is immediately very careful and friendly, paying attention to every details in a very friendly manner. The walk accross Todokori temple and its park is very nice. To cooking place in the home is perfectly equiped and I felt immediately very well. All food and drink is of premium quality. I particularly enjoyed the home made plum liquor. We cooked okonomiyaki together and it was great fun. What a thrill when I needed to overturn mine ! Moreover, Tomoko provides a lot of useful advices and the result was a delight. All the ingredients were perfectly fresh and carefuly prepared by Tomoko. All the salad plus dessert are really good. Let me finish this review by saying that, on the top of this highly professional class, Tomoko is really a wonderful person. She provides many informations concerning the japanese culture in a very friendly way, taking care to listen to your opinion and to enjoy exchanges of culture. It is really a must if you are interested in such an activity, I could not imagine a better experience.
This was the best experience I had during my whole trip! Tomoko is the sweetest and most amazing host. She welcomes no more than four students into her home for a hands on cooking lesson. I did it by myself and enjoyed her company so much. The food was indescribable! We made gyoza, ramen, and fermented cucumber salad. EVERYTHING made me speechless! Tomoko is an amazing, kind teacher. I cannot recommend her class enough! It’s a nice, relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. I will be coming back on my next trip to Japan!
This experience is so much more than a Japanese cooking class. Tomoko is a warm, friendly host and she treated us like family. We visited the lovely Todoroki temple and valley before walking to Tomoko's home, where we made an amazing lunch together. Tomoko took care to explain all of the ingredients and sent us recipes after the class. We ate many courses of delicious Japanese cuisine and tasted Tomoko's home-made plum wine. Her home is beautiful and we gained a real insight into Tokyo life. Don't miss this very special experience - it is one of the best memories of our Tokyo trip!
A very enjoyable cooking class by Tomoko san. we went by the temple to her beautiful home. welcome drinks and snacks are well prepared for us and my daughter enjoyed it so much. we cooked ramen and fluffy pancake which taste so good and Learn how the local Japanese making of this. we chat and share our life in Hong Kong and spent a great afternoon with Tomoko San.
Tomokita is the best! She customized the menu to my dietary needs (pescatarian) which is not offered in the other cooking classes in Tokyo. This was a huge factor for me since I don’t eat meat. She met us at the train station and walked us over to a beautiful temple. It is in the only valley in Tokyo. She brought us to her beautiful home where she taught us how to make cucumber salad, miso soup and sushi. My son is 12 years old and he was involved from beginning to end. We had the best time. The food was so good. (We also had edamame, cherries, peaches, and matcha cheesecake.) Tomokita had paper copies of the recipes, along with sending a pdf. She also recommended places for us to visit in Tokyo. Highly recommend her class!
I give this experience 10 stars, Tomoko is so friendly, warm and a great teacher. We chose gyoza and ramen to cook, it was one of the best meals we ate in Japan, not only was it home cooking but we did it together with Tomoko. The day I come back to Tokyo, I’m definitely coming back to do another class to learn more dishes!! Fingers crossed when I go back home (Australia-Melbourne) I can replicate what I learnt. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you for sharing everything with Tony and I, Tomoko.
The entire experience with Tomoko was great. It was very nice to have one on one time with a very experienced chef and all-around awesome person. In the weeks leading up to our trip, she made sure to check in what type of food we wanted to cook and whether we had any food allergies. On the day of the class, she met us at the Todoroki station and we took a walk through the beautiful park and shrine on the way to her house. Once at her house, she was gracious and well-prepared with snack and a drink ready to go. The cooking lesson (in our case, washoku “home cooking”) was very informative and the three of us prepared two dishes together. Tomoko was a great teacher and happily answered a lot of questions during the process. The food was incredibly tasty and fresh, including some home-made items and fresh herbs from her garden. We had a delicious lunch together, including a dessert and some fantastic plum wine. We really felt her love for cooking come through during the class, and also the care and planning she puts in for her clients. I’m so happy we chose this experience and it was one of highlights of our trip.
We had an incredible experience during our private cooking class with Tomoko in her beautiful home! The entire experience was so much fun, and Tomoko was a fantastic host. She generously shared insights about her community, the rich history of her culture, and her amazing cooking skills. It felt like more than just a class; it was a cultural immersion that I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on. Tomoko is not only kind but also has a beautiful personality that makes you feel right at home. Plus, her place was easy to reach by train. I highly recommend this cooking class to anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable experience in Japan!
I really felt deeply connected to Japanese everyday delicious meals and life! Thank you for your patience courtesy and hospitality!Tomokita taught me to make some really special recepies.I love all of them. Thanks a lot! ❤️
I had a second cooking class with Tomokita this week and it was so special, more interesting and enjoyable than the first class. Her passion teaching Japanese food was inspiring so much her class, the helpful tips, and above all, the warmth with which she accompanied me throughout the course. I can highly recommend this course to everyone.
It is such a nice class with Ms. Tomoko. I really enjoy cooking with her since she is full of enthusiasm to cooking and good at different sorts of dishes. I highly recommend this class to other visitors who want to learn Japanese style of cooking and understand more about local culture.
I was working on a travel documentary series and we had the pleasure of introducing our participants to Ms. Tomoko and filming in with her in her beautiful home. It was a truly special opportunity for both the participants and the crew. Ms. Tomoko was a wonderful and accommodating host throughout the whole process and I don't think I could say enough kind things about the overall experience. A lot of thought and care goes into her lesson and style of hosting.
This was the highlight of my trip! Tomoko looked after us for the day and was so helpful! The food was delicious too. Ramen and gyoza are a must try!!
Tomoko tailored the class to what we were interested in and adjusted per my food allergies. We first experienced a cool neighborhood shrine and park and then started cooking. We made quite a few dishes and she explained each one. Lunch was delicious and we left very full with the recipes! Tomoko is very welcoming, warm, and professional! We highly recommend this class while you’re in Tokyo!
My friend and I are so happy we chose this experience. We learned so much and our gracious hostess/teacher was the BEST! We feel we have made a life long friend and will always remember this day!
Amazing experience in Tomoko’s beautiful home. We made Gyozas and Takoyaki. Tomoko tailored the day perfectly. She provided an inclusive experience for our adult child with intellectual impairment. A truely special experience for all of us all.
If you are looking for original recipes, authentic flavours of Japanese cuisine and fun... you will find it all at Casa de Tomokita! It will be an unforgettable experience thanks to Tomokita's hospitality.
I recently had the best experience at a cooking class where we learned to make gyozas and cucumber salad. Tomoko's passion and expertise made the session both educational and fun, with clear instructions and hands-on guidance that had us all folding perfect gyozas in no time. The refreshing cucumber salad complemented the amazing gyozas beautifully, and Tomoko's personalized tips throughout the class helped elevate our skills. I left with not only delicious food but also the confidence to recreate these dishes at home. It was an unforgettable culinary experience that I highly recommend!
Our family had a lot of fun doing this class. Tomoko is really amazing! she went aboye and beyond to make sure we were doing ok. we visited a temple and a Japanese garden on the way to her house. That was a huge plus for us as well! We all learned a lot and had a blast.!Our daughters learned a lot about the culture and the food was fantastic. Tomoko really makes sure that you are comfortable. she fills the experience with multiple details that just makes you feel like at home ! I would recommend this activity for single travelers, couples or families! it was one of the highlights from our trip to Tokyo!
I was unfortunately alone for the whole experience. I say unfortunately because Tomoko san is a great host, the food was AMAZING and the afternoon was memorable. She made me taste her homemade plum wine, some pickled cucumbers from her garden and so much more. She makes so much by hand. She de day was full of surprises and I heard about the Japanese hospitality but she went beyond that. I would say it was home away from home but I think I will miss that place when I get back home. It’s a very cozy time in her house. Would 100% recommend
I was able to take TWICE Tomokita’s classes during my short stay in Japan! The fried chicken we made together last time was soooo delicious so this time I learned how to make Teriyaki Chicken,Soy milk soup and White Rice in a pot. Also delicious side dishes. I learned a lot from her. Tomoko is absolutely great, she picked me up at the station again and we walked to her house along the Todoroki temple and Japanese traditional garden. Tomoko is a great teacher and very welcoming. The food was very very tasty and I will be cooking for my family when I get home. This was a great way to break a trip. Thank you for an amazing afternoon!
This was such a great experience! As a foodie, I had high expectations, and I was not disappointed! Tomoko is an incredible chef and instructor. Her passion for cooking is contagious, making the techniques approachable and fun. I also loved how she used such fresh ingredients. I’ve taken many cooking classes while traveling and will highly recommend this class to anyone looking for one in Japan. Thank you Tomoko!
Perfect cooking class with Tomokita!!! She came to see me at the station and we went to her house while admiring Todoroki Ravine Park. She taught me how to make Kakiage tempra,Soymilk soup and many side dishes as I requested after booking. It was sooo delicious! I loved this experience and it was a special highlight of my short business trip in japan. Don’t miss out!!!!! Choose Tomokita’s Japanese Home Cooking Class for all travelers !
This is so far is my best experience during staying in Tokyo.Tomoko is soooo pleasant and lovely! The meal was delicious especially Karaage and all the little side dishes. I cannot recommend the class enough!
May and I met Tomoko at the train station and began our walk to her home. Along the way, we stopped by a local temple and Japanese garden. It was a nice sunny day and when we reached her Casa de Tomokita, she offered us tea, snacks, and a cool oshibori (towel)! Tomoko’s hospitality and enthusiasm made us feel like we were over at a friend’s home to cook, eat, drink, and talk story! Of course, it is a cooking class and you do participate in the prepping and cooking. On the menu were ramen and gyoza. The shoyu based ramen broth was not complicated at all. Assembling the gyoza was a first for May and I, but we did a pretty good job! Our entire meal included a salad, some side dishes, and dessert. It was oishi (delicious)! Your level of cooking skills doesn’t matter as Tomoko is very accommodating! If you want to experience cooking and having a meal in a Japanese home with a wonderful host like Tomoko, I highly recommend this class!
Amazing hospitality, great food and over all phenomenal experience. I would do this again! In addition to cooking we enjoyed the brief tour on the way to her home.
This was one of our favorite activities on our honeymoon trip to Tokyo. Tomoko-san is super friendly and kind. She is a very skilled teacher and our limited Japanese language skills were not a problem at all! It was nice to be able to escape the busier parts of the city and see this beautiful neighborhood. The food was delicious and plentiful! What an excellent memory! If you're on the fence, just book it!
Tomoko and her wingwoman Junko met us at the Todoroki train station exactly as planned. Having experienced some of Tokyo’s massive train stations we were worried about finding her but Todoroki station is tiny and impossible to hide in. The walk to Tomoko’s house through the peaceful Todoroki valley was beautiful and spoiled only by the fact that her Sunshine Spell didn’t work…but we appreciated the effort. The gardens were lovely and there was a small temple/shrine. After a short walk to her home we started cooking and laughing. Both Tomoko and Junko were delightful company. They had prepared some of the ingredients for ramen and gyoza in advance but left plenty for us to do. Despite our rather ham handed help the results were amazing and plentiful. We couldn’t finish everything even with beer and plum wine to wash it down. All in all a wonderful and fun experience. Don't hesitate! This was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan.
OMG, this so far is our best experience of our trip. Tomoko is so pleasant and kind. The meal was delicious especially all the little side dishes. Even my picky daughter loved the side dishes which she normally wouldn’t have had eaten. The stroll through the park on the way to her house was so peaceful and beautiful. Don’t hesitate, book your class with her. This is better then any tourist attractions.
What a wonderful experience! Tomoko was the perfect host for this 3 hour cooking class and nature hike for our family of three. Not only do you learn how to cook the delicious food, Tomoko has such a wonderful demeanor and kind personality that you immediately feel you've known her your whole life. So here is our experience - before our class, she contacted me to ask what type of food we were interested in cooking. We also arranged a meeting place right by the train station exit. When we met up, we walked to a quaint shrine and river area that was so picturesque. Even though it was raining, it was still so beautiful. We then walked to her house where she served up some tea and snacks. We then got to cooking. You can tell she put so much effort and detail in preparing the ingredients for each dish. It was fun learning how to cook all the dishes while having great conversation at the same time. My 15 year-old son can now cook a number of dishes for us, which is a big plus! When all the dishes were ready, we got to sit down and enjoy the meal at a beautifully appointed table with some really gorgeous dishware. I would highly recommend this class if you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of a busy city with a real Japanese style home-cooked meal in a warm and friendly environment. Thank you, Tomoko, for one of our more memorable moments in Tokyo!
Tomoko was a great instructor and a great person. She was full of energy and generous hospitality. She taught the class with passion and energy, and showed us what an authentic Japanese food should look like. The cooking class was full of laugh and cheerful atmosphere. Food connects all of us together and we got along very well which made the food/experience more unforgettable. I highly recommend this to everyone who wants to experience a typical but also real/authentic Japanese lifestyle. You won’t regret!
This was easily our favorite meal in Japan. Tomokita is an amazing chef & teacher. She even accommodated a vegetarian option last minute for myself, and traditional ramen & gyoza for my partner. We had so much fun with her & really enjoyed her homemade plum wine as well. I'm looking forward to returning to Tokyo to take another class with her in the future!
Excellent experience! Firstly you will enjoy a little nice walking in the beautiful small town. Then going to chief’s beautiful and lovely warm house. Very simple, health, but very very very delicious food. She is not only a chief also is artist. I am so lucky choosing this lesson. So wonderful cooking experience in Tokyo
If you love Japanese food and having a great time this is for you, starting with the tour of Todoroki valley park which has a fantastic view, followed by a very fun cooking class, which I must say, the recipes are fantastic, it didn’t matter I wasn’t a good cook it tasted fantastic nonetheless, and all this is possible because Tomoko San is not only a fantastic host and great teacher but a person you could talk to for hours, me and my wife had a great time and will come back again for sure.
Tomoko was incredibly kind, welcoming, and caring. The walk through the Valley was a beautiful prelude to the cooking class. Tomoko made us feel very well come in her home, and had put special effort into prepping the specific meals we had requested (vegan and non-vegan ramen). As the lesson began, Tomoko’s passion for cooking and for sharing her knowledge came across incredibly clearly. She had also printed out the recipes for us to look at during the cooking process, which was very helpful. The food all turned out wonderfully, and we had a very fun time sharing the meal together. If you are looking for a unique, local experience in Tokyo I cannot recommend the class enough!
