Japanese Food Experience Night Tour In Ueno

We went to places that tourists don’t know about. We enjoyed the variety of food and drinks, some of which we’d never had before. Ina was a great guide and taught us a lot about the food. He even taught us the Kanji characters for different types of sushi fish and then we won a prize for matching the fish with the characters. Ina walked us through the colorful brightly lit streets of Ueno as we went from one restaurant to another.

It was just two of us and our guide Ina was very attentive, explaining the cuisine, and history of Japan! We got to hang out with local Japanese at the Izakaya who were so kind and fun! This was the first food tour that we had too much food and drinks! If you go on this tour, skip lunch and maybe breakfast! 😊

We went on the tour with Ina. He’s a brilliant guide and told us loads about Japanese food and drink and Japanese life in general. We had a great time and got to see some fantastic restaurants and bars away from the tourist hotspots. Thank you so much, Ina – we’d do the tour again in a heartbeat. Best wishes from Germany

This was an EXCELLENT tour! Highly recommend. Our guides, Riko and Taku, were very knowledgeable and friendly. Our night was so entertaining, it felt like going out with friends. It was just me, my husband, and our two guides, but it did not feel awkward at all. The tour stopped at four local places that my husband and I would have never found on our own (fish; skewers; a bar; ramen). The alcohol that was included was plentiful. I’m so glad we had this opportunity and highly recommend to anyone in search of a good tour!

Really great tour for foodies! We walked around visited places we would never hand found - fantastic food/drinks (and SO much of it!!) - we had a great night and even re visited one of the restaurants again a few days later.

This was an amazing experience my first night in Tokyo and my birthday Lyu was a great guide explaining all the food well and what the different places were called and the food to expect. Tori ordered amazing food, so I got to try food I probably would not have tried all delicious not sure I would eat the fishy again. The eyes kept looking at me 😂 Beer cold and nice, not sure about the saki had a little but decided not to drink the whole drink. I did like the Japanese whiskey with sparkling water yum. A special treat we had a Japanese shortcake with strawberries to celebrate my birthday. Thank you for making me feel special

My 14 year son and I went on this tour together. He said it was the highlight of our Japan trip because of the company, both the tour guides and other fellow tourist. The food and drink were great. Our guides went out of their way to get my son non-alcoholic drinks and make him feel engaged!

Very good night experiencing the off the street level restaurants (upstairs) where we experienced traditional Japanese food and drink.

Mori and Lyu are the right guides to lead visitors through the bewildering choice of local Japanese cuisine. Naturally, they're both knowledgeable but that's to be expected. What I most appreciated is how they let the evening evolve without overwhelming me with information. Instead, they shared just enough about each dish but also let the food tell the story. At the same time, they answered all my questions but in a friendly conversational manner. Nowadays, the tendency is to do our own online reserch and seek experiences without a guide. That approach definitely has merit. On the other hand, when you find the right guides, the food experience also becomes a chance to interact with not only the local cuisine but also local people. Worth noting, too, is that the four restaurants Mori and Lyu chose to take me were full of local people, not tourists.

The food was fantastic. Great choice and good variety of food. Loved the sashimi at the beginning and Ramen at the end. Drinks were all very nice too. Loved the stand up bar. We were all happy at the end. Wonderful and friendly tour guides

Fun on this tour! There were interesting dishes and flavors; the area is fun to walk around in. Lots to eat and drink, as well as making friends with the others in the group! Kanpai!. Fernando showed us a great time.

Our host Fernando was personable and cheerful, fluent in English. He took us to four different kinds of eating and drinking establishments in the charming Ameyoka area. The food and drink were abundant. Fish, raw and grilled, yakitori, ramen, and much much more. To me, this part of Tokyo, Ameyoka and Ueno, are much more appealing than Shinjuku, which gets so much attention. We recommend this tour.

I attended this tour solo and had a great time. The staff were very fun and energetic. I also got to learn a lot about the Ameyoko area.

I can't recommend this food tour highly enough. Our guides were super friendly and fabulous and took us to some places that we would not otherwise have known about. Each stop enabled us to try the most amazing food and sake. This is definitely one tour not to miss!

Our tour with Nguyen was fun and informative. We visited local restaurants and bars in the Ueno district which are frequented by locals. There was a very good selection of food and drinks, which was excellent and there was plenty. Nguyen is an enthusiastic and competent guide - she was very friendly and the whole experience was extremely enjoyable. A number of assistant guides also accompanied our tour which added to the fun of the evening.

Fantastic way to spend an evening casually seeing the local sights and discovering yummy eats and drinks! My guides were the absolute BEST. They were fun, extremely knowledgeable, and made my first night in Tokyo the best night all trip.

The whole experience was wonderful.The team was very welcoming and knowledgeable. You get to talk with other travelers around the world and taste amazing food from different restaurants around the shopping district in Ueno. I highly recommend.

It was a wonderful time. Would be a great time for an introduction to Japan. The food selections were really good and the service was amazing. The workers really try to converse with everyone and make sure everyone doesn’t feel left out. Overall a really good experience.

The tour guides from Hotel Monday were lovely, especially Mao and Fernando. We had a very informative but fun time eating delicious new foods, trying amazing new drinks, meeting other tourists and learning about Japanese culture. Was so nice being able to see the Ueno markets throughout the tour and try out places we would usually be able to visit as well. Would recommend this to anybody who is visiting Tokyo.

Everything was amazing : the food, drinks and the guides. We tried food and drinks from 4 different restaurants. All were really good. We met people from all over the world and spent time conversing with them.

The tour was well organized with excellent guides. They were a great example of Japanese hospitality. They were very friendly, always happy to answer any questions and helping with taking pictures. The food and drinks were amazing and served in establishments focusing on locals rather than tourist that would be hard to get to without the guides.

At first, I didn’t expect too much because it was a trial tour, but the quality of the tour was as good as a real one! Good food and drinks, great atmosphere, tour was well organized, this 3-hour trip was amazing!! Worth the money for the tour! Highly recommend!!

It was my first trip to Japan and I really enjoyed it. We went to the restaurant that I’m afraid to go in on my own, and it was so interesting to see how the locals drinking in the izakaya and to try food we would never have even known existed!

I participated in a free monitor tour. I don't understand Japanese or know much about Japan, so The English-speaking guide took me to stores that I couldn't go to on my own, which was really fun. It's run by a hotel chain, so I was able to enjoy it with peace of mind. I would also recommend it to my friends who are going to Japan.

LYU and Mori were very friendly and attentive, took to various locations and gave a toast. This day only I had, so it was a private tour, but they were very professional and introduced a bit of Japanese gastronomy.
