This is a must-see! The oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo, it’s surrounded by bustling shopping arcades and narrow streets with local stores selling all sorts of hand-made crafts and delicacies. Buff young men and game young women operate rickshaw and you’ll see plenty of folk dressed in kimono, it’s a great spot for pictures!
This area is very Tokyo, packed with all sorts of electronics and anime stores, game centres, and “maid cafes”, it’s something you won’t find anywhere else in the world. We could also make a stop at Mitsukoshi department store on the way down to the fish market, it’s a grand building with French and Italian marble under the skylit ceiling, it was once home to a baby elephant!
The old fish market is no longer, however people still love to visit the “outer" market - a small area packed with little restaurants and an endless array of street foods, not just seafood but wagyu, seasonal fruits, etc. If you prefer, the Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai at the new market is more focussed on sit-down eating and also has a variety of options.
Next we will drive through the outer gardens of the Imperial Residence, being that the royal family still lives there and the residence is purposefully hidden from view it isn’t possible to see the building itself but you will love the immaculately sculpted trees and view of the stone bridges. We’ll also drive past a few more significant sites on the way to the next stop.
Yes, it’s another shrine! But this one is surrounded by a lush forest of over 100,000 trees and 170 acres! It’s a peaceful respite from the busy streets of Tokyo. Built for the souls of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Shoken, it’s a great place to pray for a good relationship and recharge your battery before the next stop.
This is a funky area full of all sorts of fashion, street foods (crepes are a big deal, also strawberries and candy apples) and now animal cafes. Gwen Stefani famously loved Harajuku fashion and while fashions change this is still the place to see what’s hot in Tokyo.
If you loved Fast and Furious, Lost in Translation or Hachi: A Dog’s Tale, you need to make a stop at the world famous Shibuya crossing. If you have no idea what I’m talking about you should probably still visit and witness the madness that is Shibuya crossing!
If you're coming from the States, trust me, start earlier then you planned. We started ours at 10am but with the time change, should have started a little earlier. Rich was great!! Very knowledgeable, pleasant, and flexible with the tour.
Was able to tour east and west part of Tokyo in 8 The tour guide Rich was so good and informative about Japan. Was lucky to watch festival in Senso ji temple happened on that day and in Meiji Jingu was able to witness a local wedding being held that day. Rich out guide explained to us and very accommodating to our needs as we are all seniors and one person has mobility issues
Great overview of Tokyo. Our guide Rich was very friendly and knowledgeable. We appreciated the ability to explore on our own at each location. As a huge fan of sushi, the options at the fish market were tremendous and the street food was excellent. I highly recommend!!!
Rich was an excellent local guide. He knew all the neighborhoods we should visit and entertained us with history during the drive. We feel we saw a good representation of all Tokyo has to offer in his safe, comfortable, and clean minivan.

Rich was awesome! I was expecting more of a driver with limited English but Rich was native English speaker with tons of information and suggestions. We had already done two of the proposed stops so we changed and added stops to fit our needs and Rich offered great suggestions and history of the area. Wonderful day for our family.
Rich was absolutely fantastic! Personable and knowledgeable about the area and fun history. This was our second time in Japan and he easily adjusted to take us places we hadn’t been before. Rich made this tour thoroughly enjoyable. He catered to the needs and limitations of 2 travel weary and mobility restricted travellers. We got to see much more of Tokyo than we would have on our own. He even got us to a street lined with Cherry blossoms in full bloom that didn’t have hoards of tourists. He carefully managed to get the car to the front of the line to watch the madness of the Shibuya crossing. Can’t recommend him enough.
Rich was very helpful and spoke perfect English. The tour was a great mix of historical information and modern times. He made sure we were able to see the things we wanted to see and shared Japanese culture. He shared Google maps that made the pick-up locations during the tour easy to find as this wasnt a guided tour. He also shared info that wasn't related to the tour. Overall great experience! I would totally recommend this tour. Peace of mind priceless. This was a great way to see all of the major places in one day without navigating on our own.

This was a great experience for us, as we had little time in Tokyo and needed to get round things quickly. We were able to customise somewhat, and communication when we booked was good. Rich was the driver, he didn’t just ferry us round but had local knowledge as well. He’s an English speaker, but also speaks some Japanese. This tour may seem pricey, but honestly the time and stress it saves is so worth it.

It is really not a guided tour but transportation between various attractions. Very little narration by the driver Temples and shrines were interesting. Everything else was shopping and food stands.

Our driver, Jordan, greeted us with a smile and made us feel at ease straight away. We had a customised tour to ensure we saw all the places of interest to us. In between stops, Jordan shared insights into local areas, culture, and history as well as entertaining our 10 year old son, who was delighted to find another Pokemon fan he could chat to about all things Pokemon! This experience was absolutely perfect. Rich was very easy to communicate with, picked 4 of us up with all our cruise bags from Yokohoma port, and was happy to change the timing and activities to suit our requests. He clearly knows his way around Tokyo and in addition to seeing sights, knew where to find the early cherry blossoms and last minute souvenirs we wanted. Rich is an excellent tour guide! He is an Aussie who's lived in Tokyo for 25+ years and has great knowledge of the city and helps to explain each area we're seeing. We were pleased to have an English speaker with great local experience, an excellent driver and did wonders with his ability to drop us off at the entrance to areas, explain what were about to see and have the car ready upon our return in spite of heavy traffic, etc. With Rich, we were able to alter our itinerary to meet a pre-established lunch date, and have plenty of time to get to/from our ship docked in Yokohama. We couldn't recommend Rich more highly. (Also: nice wheels!)

Rich was open to our requests and made the entire day smooth and stress free. We saw 3 different temples, went to a government building to see Fuji, Akasaka Palace, lunch at Toyosu, and even a local shopping street. All done with my parents limited mobility in mind. We are so appreciative of Rich and his thoughtfulness. He made sure my parents were ok and we were even able to bring the wheelchair with us. I cannot say enough good things about the tour. Our Tokyo tour was absolutely perfect from start to finish! It was four of us including 2 children between 5-8. We were thrilled with the thoughtful planning, comfort, and expertise our guide provided throughout the day. Starting with vibrant Senso-ji Temple we later moved to the serene and stunning Meiji Jingu, with each stop beautifully timed and well organized. Our guide’s deep knowledge of each location before letting us explore the venues brought the history and culture of Japan to life. His fluent English made everything so engaging and easy to follow. We also enjoyed the modern marvel of the 450m high platform of Tokyo Skytree, the historic elegance of the Imperial Palace, and the colorful energy of Takeshita Street. Though we decided to skip the fish markets (not really our thing), our guide adjusted the tour smoothly, ensuring we didn’t lose unnecessary time. This tour exceeded our expectations, and we’re so happy with our decision to book. Our guide made us feel welcome, informed, and well taken care of.
