Did Shimbashi food tour with Joe. Really fun and delicious food. Joe was a terrific guide
Jane did a wonderful job with this tour! We had premium fish and memorable meals that made our trip spectacular! Thank you Jane!
An amazing morning with Clara, our guide, not only did we sample some great food but also learnt a lot about the origins of Japanese cuisine and the history of the Nihonbashi area. A great experience- would highly recommend. Thank you Clara.
Out best guide during 10 days in Japan. Extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of Japanese food and its fashion, architecture and more. And a lot of fun.
We had the best time walking the Nihonbashi area with our guide, Yappy. He took us to several establishments and we got to try so many bites of amazing food. Yappy was extremely knowledgeable about the food and location, and he kept us smiling the entire time. Highly recommend Yappy and Arigato travel - we would love to come back and book another tour!
My family and I did a food tour in Tokyo with Alex. He did an amazing job making sure we understood the history of the area as well as customs, eating styles, and a lot of information about the food. He was a gracious host who really tailored the tour to our needs. I highly recommend him, an absolutely fantastic experience.
My wife and I were lucky enough to get Clara to guide us on a food tour along the lantern lit river during the cherry blossom time on 3/26/26. Absolutely enchanting. Clara was genuinely focused on our interests and guided us through a truly memorable experience of tastes and sights made even better by warm and casual conversation.
Ully, our guide, was very nice and very informative. I would give her 5 stars. Didn't love the restaurant that was the final stop with the main meal. The chicken dish was heavily bread and deep fried with a flavor I didn't like.
A food restaurant is a place where people gather to enjoy freshly prepared meals, snacks, and beverages. Restaurants offer a variety of cuisines, from local favorites to international dishes, catering to diverse tastes and preferences. The atmosphere, service, and quality of food play a major role in creating a memorable dining experience. Whether it's a casual eatery, a fine dining establishment, or a fast-food chain, restaurants provide convenience, comfort, and social interaction. Many restaurants also focus on presentation, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction. With evolving trends, some embrace eco-friendly practices, digital ordering, and unique menus to attract and retain loyal customers.
We loved this tour! Sandra was an excellent tour guide - really welcoming, very knowledgable about the history of Tokyo and the area as well as local customs. We learned about the history of Nihombashi area and food / culture. Would highly recommend and want to say thanks to Sandra for a great morning!
Jacob Gin was an amazing guide and very knowledgeable! Tour was very well organized and highly informative. Thanks for the great food and tour :)
Jacob was a great tour guide, friendly and informative. We enjoyed the foods, especially the variety at the first isakaya, and the location and atmosphere was great! Dessert was also special, and we learned a lot about tea in between!
We really enjoyed the food tour with Michie. We gained an insight into Japanese culture and ate food that most tourists don't get to see. It was very varied and we really enjoyed it. It is more than worth the price and is made all the more enjoyable by Michie's friendly company. We can recommend it to anyone who wants to experience something really special on their trip to Tokyo.
We had a fantastic time! Our guide, Yappy, was excellent - really fun to be with and full of interesting information. We were eight in total and he managed to keep four teenagers rapt with attention which is no small feat. I would not hesitate to recommend the tour.
We took the Flavors of Japan walking tour in September. While our guide was pleasant and provided a history of the area as well as information on the sites we visited which included a Shintu shrine, the tour was lacking in the variety of Japanese foods. This was my husband's first visit to Japan and his first taste of true Japanese cuisine. I was hoping that he would have a more robust culinary experience especially for the price! In general, we were pleased with what was served but there were no dumplings, egg rolls or sushi for example. While these are the basics so to speak, it was disappointing not to have them included. We have participated in a number of food tours around the world and in comparison, this one was mediocre at best.
Yappy and Hana were absolutely amazing! They taught us everything from the origins of traditional dishes, history of each restaurant and it’s area, Japanese food manners and phrases, and much more. They also accommodated my husband’s shellfish allergy to ensure he could indulge at every stop. We truly were showed some of Tokyo’s best hidden gems and would do this tour again any day!
My wife and I booked the Flavors of Japan Food Tour in Toyko in late May of 2023 and we had an excellent time with Satoko! Some things were familiar to us and some weren't but it was amazing to be able to try so many authentic Japanese ingredients all within a few blocks. Everything we ate was amazing and we left the tour feeling very full, so have a very light breakfast beforehand.
The tour was excellent and very informative. The tour guide, Josh, was extremely helpful not only on the tour but in giving us tips for navigating Tokyo. My daughter , 15, was not quite as interested, however still loved the tips for navigating the city. For adults interested in learning Japanese cuisine this is a perfect tour. The food was great too.
Wow! We have been on two tours with this company during our stay in Japan for our honeymoon and honestly everyone should experience one to get the best out of trying Japanese cuisine. We did a tour in Tokyo and Osaka - our tour guides on both occasions were incredible! Very knowledgeable and with good tips on the best places for certain foods and nightlife. All of them spoke very good English and even helped us with our Japanese! The food places we visited were places we would likely have not found ourselves amd were gems hidden down side streets and away from the bustling main streets. We were both introduced to food we might not otherwise have tried - so definitely recommend being adventurous! Would 100% recommend and will definitely book another if we return to Japan in the future.
This food tour was amazing and totally blew away my expectations. Ryan was our tour guide and he was affable, gregarious and always accommodating. We stopped at around 4-5 places and by the time I was done I was more than full from all of the tastings. Arigato Japan overall did a great job of pacing the walking with the tastings, ensuring that our experiences at each restaurant was seamless, and giving all of its participants a reason to try the other food tours. I highly recommend this but also recommend attendees not to eat beforehand or plan to eat afterwards. The tour gives you great places to revisit at a later time and it’s simply a great experience overall and worth the price.
Tour included 5 stops at different eateries and plenty of food tried at each, our guide Yuko spoke good English and was able to cater for different dietary requirements. All in about a 3 hour tour with other areas of culture and history covered other than the food itself.
We had a wonderful walking and eating tour. Our host took us to a number of locations and explained customs and etiquette. Everything was delicious!
We were so fortunate to have Mandy as our tour guide. My husband and I are both from the US, visiting our son here for ten days. We happened to be the only two on this daytime tour of the Nihonbashi area of Tokyo on Wednesday, September 18th, and we peppered her with so many questions that she happily responded to. Mandy was born and grew up in the US, has lived here in Japan for most of the last nine years, and now considers Tokyo her home. She loves this country and all of its traditions, holidays, sense of seasons and nature, etc. ... and she shared that all with us. Her Japanese seemed to be perfect, and of course so was her English! We did attend another food tour a few days later with another tour company in the Tsukiji Fish Market area -- the latter tour was "as expected," this tour with Arigato was well beyond expectations! The choice of multiple food stops provided a wonderful overview of Japanese culinary experience. Beyond that, Mandy explained the history of the area (with maps, art work, other props she had), the importance of *seasons* and *regions* in Japanese culture and menu, and then we asked her things like "what is it like for her child to grow up in Japan?," "is there a 'me-too' movement awareness here in Japan?", "tell us more about Tokyo in the Edo period and also about how Tokyo is preparing for the 2020 Olympics!", etc. We were so eager to understand and appreciate the culture, history, daily life, politics, everything about Japan, and our several hours spent with Mandy gave us a wonderful perspective. Plus, again, let me mention .. the food stops were each a treat, taste wise and what we learned! Easy to find the meeting spot, and not too much walking. Thank you, Mandy!
Ryan was the best food tour guide! He kept our kids involved and made sure they were good to go each step of the way. Thank you so much for making our Tokyo experience a wonderful one!
II would like to say how much I enjoyed my Arigato Food Tour, (Flavours of Japan) of the Nihombashi area of Tokyo on the 26th of April. Ramona and Mandy were charming, knowledgeable, and informative about Japanese food in general but also about the area we were touring. They explained the importance of regional food taking us to specialty stores and shops where we were able to try some or at times the only product they sold. We had delightful lunch at a restaurant I cannot recall the name of. Ramona and Mandy did not rush us and the tour was actually longer than advertised. Excellent tour guides and an enjoyable tour.
We had an amazing food tour with Yappy. We Learned about the various types of food, information about the neighbourhoods and ate AMAZING food. It was really good. Highly recommend.
Had such an amazing time with this tour. It was a fantastic opportunity to try so many dishes with great company, chat and new friends. Our guide was Alex and I really enjoyed his approach to the whole tour and how generous, energetic and open he really was. A great first experience in Tokyo and Japan!
My wife, 2 year old son and I did the Flavours of Japan tour in Tokyo with Michie our guide. The tour was a little more expensive than we would usually pay but worth every dollar and we look forward to doing another one next time we are in Japan. Michie was knowledgeable and told us a lot of interesting history (both food related and otherwise) as we walked and took us to places we would never have considered going without a guide (even though we love food and research our trips). It was raining reasonably hard and we were a bit concerned before the tour started but our guide assured us (and was able to) navigate the tour underground where needed so we all stayed dry. We visited a few shops which had been selling various ingredients used in Japanese cooking for hundreds of years (the shops also appeared full of history). We snacked along the way before having a set lunch followed by dessert and some more snacks. We were all full by the end of the tour (and our 2 year old son even shared our lunch).
My family of four did an afternoon tour of Tokyo with Michie on our first trip to Japan. Michie was a fabulous guide and took us to some very delicious eats in the Shibuya area. Michie was super informative and just fun to spend a few hours with. My children (they pretty much eat everything) were completely stuffed from all of the yummy food. Not only did Michie take us to some great restaurants, but she also showed us some shopping as well as one of those photo booth places that was fascinating to my kids. I would definitely do another tour - maybe a drinking one without the kids - with Arigato the next time we're in Japan.
We had 2 absolutely fantastic ladies as guides that took us through a wonder land of food in upmarket Tokyo. Learnt a lot, saw a lot, ate enough for a day. Felt much more comfortable to tackle Japanese menu's then.
Thank you for the great walking tour and a welcome to Japanese local and street food in this lovely area of historic Tokyo. We had lots of flavours tastes, and interesting conversation. Kids (11 and 14) loved it too, and Emma and I had a great time. It was fantastic to have so many pictures taken, and we look forward to receiving them. Guides' English language was fantastic, and having locals show us around was brilliant. Would certainly go again to refresh in a few years! Thank you Denis and Emma
We had no idea what to expect but we not only got to see and know a lot about Asakusa, ate great variety and very, very much, but we had an amazing time. I took my 15yr old daughter to Tokyo for special treat and her sole interest was anime. But I booked this anyway just to try something different. K. Kim and her associate were beyond fantastic. The stories, explanations and insights were a delight and the tour never felt like a tour but more of hanging out with a friend. My daughter absolutely loved it. Of course not all of the food was her favorite but there was a ton of varoety, lunch was great, and they even stayed with us longer to show us around the shrines. When we parted it was like saying goodbye to a friend. We were stuffed, knowledgeable and very, very happy. I can not recommend it more highly.
Fabulous experience with Ryan. He had great info on the food and the areas and restaurants we visited. Great intro to Japanese for culture to kick our trip off!!
We visited several traditional food shops and had a very nice lunch with our lovely guide Ramona. She has thorough knowledge of Japanese food culture and pleasant way to explain it. This was our best food tour after we have experienced several in other big cities.
One of the highlights of our trip was this tour. Guide was super-informative, took us to lots of places, and we learned lots of information about history, food preparation, basics and high-end cuisine. A fabulous experience.
Had a wonderful private tour with Asami, she was so informative, gave me a real insight into not only the food but the traditions and customs of the Japanese way of life. Such a lovely way to spend a few hours.. I leave Tokyo after a very brief visit but look forward to returning and will certainly Recommend Arigato Tours to my friends and family, Regards , Louise 😄
Whenever I get to a new destination I always go on a food tour as I find they're the best way learn all about the history and culture of an area while trying some delicious food too. Obviously Tokyo is massive and pretty overwhelming, so I was looking at a good introduction to the city and the food when I came across Arigato Japan - there are so many amazing tours to choose from but I went for 'Flavours of Japan' Our guide was a local Japanese guy who has been living in Tokyo his whole life and he was incredible - without a doubt one of the best tour guides I've had in a very long time and really helpful too. Found out so much about Japan and the cuisine here from him and all the food was delicious too - would definitely recommend this tour!
Our family of four (with two teens) had the best time on this tour. Yoko was fabulous and knew so much about the food and Japan. She took us to the best places, and part of the fun was that we just loved getting to know her. She’s absolutely adorable, and if you have teens, I’d request her. She’s energetic and fun. The food was awesome, too, and the way too much of it! You won’t go back to your hotel hungry after this tour. Have fun! Request YOKO. She’s the best.
I am glad i have booked arigato japan. Ive been to tokyo several times but when i experienced the tour, i appreciate japan even more thank you so much arigato japan
My friend and I had such a great time with Arigato Japan on their Flavors of Japan walking tour in Tokyo. Our guide Asami was very fun, knowledgable and helpful to us on our tour. No need to eat beforehand because by the end of the tour we were stuffed! We started with lunch at a local restaurant where we got to choose from a variety of options (I had sushi and it was delicious) so you're sure to find something that you like! As we ate Asami taught us about Japanese customs and table manners as well as about where different foods come from and how they're traditionally served. Throughout the tour we got walk around Tokyo and visit local shops. Asami was very patient and allowed us to stop take pictures throughout the day. We wrapped up the tour with dessert and Asami even chatted with us for a while and gave us suggestions on things we should do during the rest of our time in Tokyo. It was a sweet ending to an incredible tour. 10/10 would recommend.
What a treat this tour was. Our first trip to Japan and only the second day in Tokyo. Asami met us at the cafe and we were so lucky to be the only ones on the tour today. We walked all around the stores near the river that have been selling the same thing for generations - miso fish stock, knives, gold, the highest quality (and prices!) fruit and vegetables, handmade cards and calligraphy. The food was wonderful - omlette on a stick, fish cakes, sushi and then lunch in a traditional restaurant. Dessert was really special, watching an artisan create the red bean paste flowers. Tried matcha and went to a tea shop. A wonderful morning and a real highlight of our holiday.
Our first time in Japan and we booked a food walking tour as a way to get to know the food and culture of this beautiful country. Our guide Asami was absolutely lovely and we learnt about miso soup, calligraphy and card making, ridiculously expensive fruit for gifts, omelette on a stick (definitely a favourite), a traditional Japanese lunch in a nice restaurant and then watched a dessert maker create rice flour and red bean paste flowers for us to eat with our green tea. Would highly recommend this tour to a first time Tokyo visitor.
My husband and I had a great time with Aiko on the flavors of Japan tour. I ask a million questions about everything and Aiko was so accommodating and patient with my inquisition. The food was great, we learned a lot about Japanese customs and holidays, and we even went back after the tour to buy some snacks to bring home with us. Aiko and all the stops on the tour were very welcoming to us and our baby, who slept for a lot of the tour, but was very vocal during lunch. This was our second food tour with Arigato Japan, and the service and tour guides have been awesome in both cities. We highly recommend this company for visitors to Japan.
Great tour through Tokyo. Delicious food Perfect tour guide
Great food tour with Jane over the fishmarket with lots of egg press and great explanations . Very nice!
A very nice informative food tour. Our guide Ully could tell a lot about the food, the neighborhood and the habits. Very varied and you get to places you wouldn't otherwise discover.
The food tour was done by Alex and his partner (now I don’t remember the name). We were taught a lot about Japanese culture and its food. We enjoyed a street stall of sushi and learned to eat it correctly, then down the street we tasted a kind of croquette and were indicating where we came from while enjoying the delicacy, the same way it happened with onomiyaki and kobe skewer. We also got several tips on where to go after the route and enjoy some fun places in Tokyo. It's really nice to meet people like that. Hope you do very well!
We loved the tour, Alex was the friendliest, coolest and adapted perfect to our food tastes. It's totally worth it, we went to places we would never have gone alone. It's totally worth it.
