Fantastic tour of Old town Tokyo, the Yanaka district! Miki-san was an amazing tour guide who gave lots of good recommendations for food to try and souvenirs to buy! He was patient, knowledgeable, and friendly, and he was a fun companion for the afternoon. Highly recommend this tour for everyone!

Itinerary
Yuuyake Dandan: It is the stairs between Gotenzaka and Yanaka Ginza. In the evening, you can see a beautiful sunset in the direction of Yanaka Ginza from this staircase.
Evil Stamp Shop Shinimonogurui: This is a shop where you can make name stamps with cute illustrations, featuring a large cat sign. Why not make an original stamp to commemorate your visit to Yanaka, the city of cats?
Yanaka Shippoya: Try a donut stick, resembling the shape and pattern of a cat's tail. Our favourites are the creamy ones!
Kanekichien: You can shop for equipment used in Japanese tea ceremonies in this lovely shop.
Niku no Suzuki: Their freshly fried menchi-katsu is beyond delicious!
Waguriya: It is the only store in Japan that specializes in Japanese chestnuts and owns its own farm, and is popular for its sweets that make the most of the natural flavor and taste of Japanese chestnuts.
Echigoya Saketen: Taste Japanese beer and sake, and enjoy drinking the Japanese way; kadouchi.
Hand Puppets Shokichi: Enjoy this fantastically expressive puppet show by professional puppeteers!
Snake Road: Behind Yanaka Ginza, there is an alley that curves like a snake. Take a walk along the alleys that used to be small rivers.
Nezu Shrine: Visit this shrine, also known as a "power spot", right in the center of Nezu, and walk through its magnificent tower gate and tunnel of red torii gates.
Shitamachi Museum Annex (Old Yoshidaya Sakayaten): Old Yoshidaya Sakayaten, an exhibition hall attached to the Shitamachi Folk Museum, was built in 1910 (Meiji 43) and was an actual liquor shop that operated until 1986 (1986). Visitors can feel as if they have stepped back in time to the Meiji era.
Yanaka Cemetery: Numerous famous people are laid to rest in these graves. There are graves of generals who once ruled Japan, literary giants and others, as well as the graves of ordinary people. Visitors will get a glimpse of Japanese culture.

We spent a lovely afternoon exploring old town Yanaka with Kaori our guide .Had lunch in a soba restaurant and coffee in the garden of a local cafe.Kaori was a knowledgeable and friendly guide and answered all our questions about Japanese customs, food ,history and architecture and pointed out many things of interest .Our last stop was Nesu shrine to see the temple and azaleas - during the azaleas festival - which were spectacular. If you like a relaxed stroll round a charming old town district - this is the tour for you.
It was a nice historical walk in Yanaka, loads of knowledge and loads of hidden spots for pictures. Our guide Sam, was a really energetic and fun guide!
Sam is such a good tour guide. Very knowledgeable and very kind. We learned a lot about little things that normally we wouldn’t think about! 10/10
Guide was interested in what we wanted to get out of the tour and customised the itinerary to fit. Very amenable and charming. Made a big difference having someone to translate written and spoken Japanese.
Thank you so much Yoshi Onari for being our guide for our 2 days in Tokyo. He was very knowledgeable about the history through out our tour. He even helped us get the special discount metro card for our son, which was pretty complicated. He was very friendly and helpful! We highly recommend this tour with Yoshi.
Fun tour, great guide. We walked and talked as he showed us all the special areas. Lots of shopping and food available. Very interesting and more fun being private.
The tour through the more quiet suburbs in the north of Tokyo was super fun and inspiring. Thank you Hina for beeing such a wonderful tour guide!
Hina was lovely and showed us the Tokio suburbs with it's lovely shops, restaurants and shrines. We really got a feeling of the "normal life" near the busy Tokyo city center. Hina was super nice and fun and told us a lot of interesting facts - in perfect English. Thank you for this lovely afternoon!
Kiyoshi was a wonderful guide - very engaged and knowledgeable. The Yanaka shops were delightful and we enjoyed the various food bites and the plum sake with soda! The puppet show was surprisingly entertaining and funny. After days of tours, the family was too tired to make the temple at the end but Kiyoshi was very gracious about us ending early. More cultural than food tour. The textile street outside the Nippori station was something we would never have found on our own if not for arriving early for the tour and exploring a bit.
We visit a lot of places with Mutsue, She explain us very clear, she was pacient with us. Track is interesting and large. We terminate the track tired but enjoy the day
I highly recommend any visitors to take this tour. I had such great time with Rieko San and she was so helpful. She was willing to go out of the way to make us feel comfortable and made sure we enjoyed our time. We walked through parts of the Taito City area (areas around Yanaka Ginza). The food she recommended were all tasty and are must tries! Ordering went super smooth as she helped us with understanding the menu and gave insights to it. I'm not a huge picture taker but the sights was great and it was great to learn more about the area we visited. As a first time visitor, this experience is a positive memory for me to remember. Rieko San is the best!!!
We had a really enjoyable time with Rieko! She was very knowledgeable in the history of places and customized the experience based on our interests. She was very attentive to our needs. Best tour guide and food experience! Highly recommend it as we wouldn't have explored or tried the place we went to without her.
This was the first tour l ever tried with Viator and it was amazing! We wanted a Cantonese guide and the company was able to arrange a very professional and friendly Cantonese speaking tour guide for us. The experience was so much fun! We has great food, learned so much about the local culture and visited areas we would never have known to visit by ourselves. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience!
Overall we had a really pleasant experience yesterday. The weather was amazing, guide was very friendly. We enjoyed our strolling down the streets and eating, shopping along the way experience very much. Miyuki took us to many local small shops, and that Minchikatsu place was awesome. The guide knew where to take the best photos and it was nice to have someone to be our photographer. In the area, there are lots of very cozy and retro cafes and small shops, but it was a pity that many of them were closed becuz it was a Monday. Luckily our guide Miyuki had some backup plans, so we still got to have some alternative locations to go.
My friends and I signed up for a day tour around the Sendagi neighborhood. Our tour guide Miyuki-san kicked off our tour at Yanaka Ginza and introduced us to the popular shops in the area. After eating our way through Yanaka, Miyuki-san took us to Nezu Shrine, where we happened to spot CNN’s Richard Quest, and got to take a picture with him. The tour ended with a delicious simple onigiri set. Overall, we were very satisfied with the tour and our tour guide, Miyuki-san was really sweet and helpful.
Excellent tour. We explored the streets of Yanaka ginza and got to eat lots of yummy street food. The pork menchi katsu is a must! Miyuki-san was a fantastic tour guide and an even better photographer! Highly recommended!
My friend and I had a lovely time with our guide Sayaka exploring and learning about the Yanesen area. I was very happy to try several local foods (as the tour website mentions, it's a good idea to bring cash, because some of the small stands accept cash payment only). It also felt nice to explore a smaller neighborhood, which had a different feeling and pace from other parts of Tokyo. Nezu Shrine and the grounds around it were also particularly beautiful, and I learned some good historical and cultural details from our guide. It was a really nice way to spend part of the day and I would definitely recommend this tour!
We had a great time trying various Japanese snacks and looking at adorable little shops. The traditional handmade puppets were really interesting. Having a guide at Nezu Shrine was nice because we could learn about the history and importance of the area. Our guide Sayaka was really kind and carefully answered all our questions, so it was a real pleasure.
Muchan was an excellent guide. She had plenty of information to share about all the places we visited. She had good suggestions for local foods and treats to try. She is enthusiastic about her job and appears to enjoy our experiences vicariously. Her English skills is good and I would highly recommend her.
Kumiko our tour guide was amazing. She took us to some great shops where we tried foods we never experienced before. It was our first time experiencing Japan while also being interviewed for a local magazine, Kumiko did a phenomenal job of showing such professionalism in working with both tourists like us and the interviewing company; we were able to try fun foods like the cat tail donut, apple-flavored mochi, nut-flavored ice-cream, sweet potatoes treats, and more. We also got to sight-see shopping districts and buy soveiniers for family and friends, and Kumiko made the experience really fun and memorable. She also went out of her way to show us how to navigate the streets of Tokyo, helped us learn best strategies for traveling subways, and even took us to a restaurant to order on our behalf! One of the things that we still remember that was a favorite as we sit eating our dinner Kumiko helped us to set up is the puppet show. That show was special in that it was done by a local, passionate individual with amazing creativity. We would recommend Kumiko and this tour guide, and consider connecting with Kumiko for additional areas to travel in Japan when we return one day.
This is my second time to visit Japan, and this tour was just nice! If someone who love to visit not so popular or secret side of japan or something local, this is the one you should try! Basically walking so summer time might not be suitable though
Through the guidance of a private guide, you can play very self-sufficient and casual according to your personal interests, eat some local delicious snacks, visit the traditional and quiet streets, and walk into the beautiful Sanctuary of Kensington, these can be customized and can be adjusted according to the situation at any time, very much like this trip, very suitable for my leisure play.
The first time I visited the shopping street in the Valley, I felt Japanese. Although today's sunshine highlight weather is very hot but I visited a lot of specialty shops and also ate a lot of delicious food.
The tour explained the introduction is very careful, explain the life circle of the day and night, photographers are very professional to help us take photos of memories✌🏼, roasted meat cake super delicious to eat a one and then bought a shrimp but sadly the ice crowd is too hindered by the time not enough to be in line, thunderstorms only the holidays are open, special holiday business is not to eat (hopefully the next time you come to eat the shrimp are usually driving to the day and night drive to the upper field not to specially get down here to look, not thinking there is such a great place 👍👍👍 Welcome to all to experience such a great trip, I highly recommend the photographer, Mr.ZHILI, very kind
