Edo Tokyo History & Culture Tour With Licensed Local Guide

If you're looking for a tour guide who has local knowledge and who is fluent in French & English, Mr. Kazu H. is the right one for you. Kazu-san was engaging and fun to talk to, and made us feel welcome and safe. He even helped me go to the post office to buy some postcards and postage stamps so I can send them to my friends back home. We visited the Imperial Palace Gardens and I had an enjoyable time taking photos of the scenery and saw some very colorful koi fish. Kazu-san was also very patient with me asking about the Samurai class, Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu and my questions about the big business conglomerates of Japan (i.e. Mitsui, Mitsubishi, etc). One memorable part of the tour is when Kazu-san took us to Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Nihombashi area, and explained how it is a symbol of luxury in Japanese Culture. I was very happy to get beautiful Japanese Sweets by Kasho Hanami, and Mitsukoshi-exclusive macarons by Laduree. My sister was very happy to get herself a Laduree macaron set featuring the Mitsukoshi Lion (only available at the Laduree counter in Mitsukoshi's depa-chika). Another memorable experience is when Kazu-san also took us to Sushizanmai at Tsukiji Market for an authentic sushi lunch experience. We sat at the counter and watched our sushi chef prepare us delicious sushi. It was a lovely experience, especially for my sister because it was her first time to visit Japan. Since we requested to see the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Stadium even though no Sumo Tournaments were happening, Kazu-san took us there and we were able to get souvenirs for ourselves at the giftshop. We also enjoyed the Sumida Hokusai Museum and spent some time viewing the exhibits and seeing high-quality replicas of famous wookblock prints. Just walking through the neighborhood where the Sumida Hokusai Museum was located was very enjoyable and memorable. Kazu-san was also very kind to take us to the Great Kanto Earthquake Memorial Museum as this was our special request; we like to learn the reason why Tokyo has so many new buildings. My sister and I had an excellent time doing touristy stuff (sightseeing, picture-taking, shopping), while learning about the history of the Edo Period sites. Thank you Kazu-san for making our trip to Tokyo fun and memorable!

We had a wonderful, long day. Show was an excellent guide. Apart from yhe marvellous things we saw, we learned how to use the IC card and use the bewildering (at first) public transport system. I chose 3 place far from each other, but Show mapped a course that got us everywhere we went. For me the standout highlight was the Hokusai Museum, but also loved the Edo-Tokyo Outdoor Architectural Museum.

We were guided by Shinji and he did an excellent job of communicating with us prior to the tour and tailored it to what we were looking for. Great day touring and seeing the sites and very worth the money. The guide’s English was excellent as well.

Nori was an amazing guide, incredibly kind and full of information! She took us to some beautiful places, told us so many things and little fun facts and for lunch, she brought us to an amazing location with the most delicious food we’ve had so far! It was also my boyfriend’s birthday and Nori arranged for a birthday treat to come out for him!! Nori was lovely, the tour was lovely - 10/10 recommend!! Plus you get to have a better understanding of the metro system!!

This was our first time in Japan and Tokyo is a massive city. It's overwhelming. So having a national government licence guide and interpreter. Was very helpful. Seizo was incredibly, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. He helped us book tickets for the bullet train, he told where we could book day trips and taught us how to navigate and pay for the transport system. He changed his plans to suit us and the visits to Meingi Shire, Emperial palace, Sensoji temple were wonderful experiences. He explained the history behind these important and fascinating history sites. I He has also our personal photographer for the day. Seizo, thank you for a wonderful day which we will never forget, you have been the best ambassador ever.

Your was wonderful and a highlight of our trip. Sachi was the best guide and made extra stops we did not anticipate. She communicated very well prior to the trip to get an Idea of what we wanted to do and see. Would definitely encourage others to book with her.

Even before we arrived in Japan We were contacted by our tour guide Tachi. She wanted to make sure we had the best experience. She asked for special places we wanted to visit and she was right on target. So knowledgeable and so accommodating, What a great experience we had. Our guide, Miyuki, provided us with a well-planned and thoughtful experience. We communicated beforehand to determine our itinerary. She arrived at our hotel on-time and and was thoroughly prepared with maps and other materials to bring a deeper understanding to our tour. She was very open to our input. The day was very hot and we dislike waiting on long, sweaty lines in touristy areas, so besides more popular sights, she also introduced us to lesser-known but equally interesting places we might never have seen otherwise. She was extremely gracious, warm, and kind. Miyuki made our day a truly special experience for our first visit to Japan.

We went with Yoshi to see Tokyo for The First time ever. He sent us a suggestion of places to see before we arrived. He is a very warm and generous person who immediately gets your attention. He gave us all we wanted to know about the history and culture surrounding the sights we went to see. He is simply a joy to be around, and we really enjoyed the whole experience. Ask for Yoshi

We did a 6 hour tour with Michio and it was great, he showed us Edo castle and many other parts of Tokyo. The guide arrived early and helped us plan the day. Very nice and helpful.

Yoko Inoue met me on time at my hotel. We sat and finalized the itinerary previously discussed and the transportation means. She is very experienced and poised as well as knowledgeable in all aspects of the venue and in Japanese history and culture. Her command of English was a big plus for me. We went off the beaten path to a suburban location to see the Open Air Museum of Japanese Architecture, a collection of buildings both residential and commercial of historic significance of diverse periods and origins all brought to this enchanting park. This was selected to match my personal and professional interests. She escorted me after the tour to my hotel lobby where she made some telephone calls on my behalf really going that extra mile in true Japanese tradition! I could not have found a better tour guide.

You will need local money for this trip to pay for transit. Transit systems do not accept credit cards and you may also have trouble getting money from an ATM so a currency exchange is recommended. You need to be flexible depending on weather conditions. BTW - there is no palace at the Imperial Palace so you may want to skip that one.

Had a wonderful day with Bruce. Went to the places we discussed, but also did some freewheeling exploration. Also helped me get a PCR test. Sumo wrestling, gardens, art museum, wonderful lunch, architecture. All of it was educational and fun. Highly recommend.

I was in Tokyo on business with a weekend in between my office days. I decided to take a personalized tour of Tokyo over the weekend and did not regret my decision. My guide, Mori san, was incredibly knowledgeable in the history of this amazing country. He took me to several iconic places and talked in depth about the historic facts of each, including a famous Shinto shrine, the imperial gardens, the central Tokyo metro station, and a famous shopping center. Not only did he talk about the significance of each place, but he was also very engaging in his approach. It felt more like a dialog rather than a lecture, which you get during group tours. We enjoyed lunch together at a restaurant without English on a menu (which are usually the best places to eat). It was excellent. He very patiently taught me how to use public transportation in Tokyo by explaining the city's layout and instilling confidence in me, which I certainly used during the rest of my stay in Tokyo. Thank you very much for a very interesting and engaging discussion. I will remember it for the rest of my life. I am now planning my next vacation, so I can explore more of the incredible city of Tokyo and possibly other parts of Japan without the distraction of work.
