Itinerary
Join our morning tour of the historic neighborhood market in Tsukiji. Taste specialties from the area; things you simply cannot find anywhere else. We know all the hidden gems and will make sure you have a chance to taste the many flavors that make up the heart and soul of Japanese cuisine. Start out with an amazing coffee and a tour overview at one of Tokyo’s best artisanal coffee spots.
Tsukiji Hongan-ji
Spend time touring the specialty fish market while visiting seafood vendors that make Tsukiji world famous and have elected to stay here rather than move. Special tasting break with seasonal bites and then tour the bustling outer market where you will try more famous foods from the area, learn about the history and future of the market community and end your tour with a traditional dessert.
You have probably heard that the wholesale fish vendors have moved — But this part of town is still one of the best food areas in all of Tokyo, home to delicious restaurants and market shops, some dating back over 100 years or more!

Our guide Jacob was great - very knowledgeable and personable. We learned a lot about the market; its history and current operations. Jacob obviously has very good relationships with market vendors, a very good food sense, and we ate superbly. And started the tour with the best coffee in Tokyo - Turret!
Excellent 3 hour morning tour. Started with a classic Japanese breakfast, tour of the fish market, surrounding area, picnic and desserts. Amazing place and Jane was funny and interesting. A must do.
This was very fun and interesting. It is quite busy here but our tour guide knew where to go that were less crowded. We tried lots of delicious food. Come on an empty tummy!
Clara was the absolute best guide ever! Made this a highlight of our vacation!
We had Shigeki as our tour guide and he was fantastic! He was knowledgeable, patient, and kind. The variety of foods and planning he put into the tour was wonderful! I would recommend the tour and him especially to everyone.
What an amazing experience for our family! Clara was filled with information both about the history of the market and surrounding area, knowledgeable about all the different foods available, and on great terms with all the vendors. We tried so many new and delicious foods, as well as favorites. We would highly recommend this experience!
This was one of our favorite tours of the entire trip. We met our guide, Moto-san, at Turret Coffee, which is on the Michelin Guide. We then walked to the market and had a traditional Japanese breakfast. After that, we walked and shopped the market, collecting samples, snacks and fish for our lunch. We had ice cold oysters, roasted black soybeans, tuna from the Tuna Princess and more. We stopped at the top of the market for our lunch which included how to grate fresh wasabi, fresh pickled vegetables including the beautiful baby aubergines. One of the best treats was Moto chronicling our day with photos that were shared with us.
Excellent tour and guide the food was incredible as was the experience walking through the market of Tokyo Japan
Jane had a lot of knowledge on every kind of fish and was all the food she recommended and made us try I loved.
I had a very fun, informative, entertaining and filling time for a tour of Tsukiji Outer Market. During which I had the biggest and freshest oyster I am ever likely to have! Our guide Yappy was great, his working knowledge of the original market was extremely insightful and I feel like we got to see things many may not. I’d highly recommend such a tour of the outer market and surrounding area, lest you get a bit overwhelmed by the food choices!
Nice tour with a lot of information. The food was incredible and the guide very friendly. She did it so, that fun and information was in a very good balance.
I had absolutely the best time with Sandra on this wonderful tour. She is knowledgeable, and the food was exquisite. Sandra was attentive, passionate and generous with both her insights and tips. I absolutely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience Tokyo through its amazing culinary scene. 10/10
We booked a private breakfast tour and had a great time with Vasile. He is a very tall Russian who’s also lived in the USA, so he had a great perspective on what makes Japanese culture unique. He’s also a former oysterman and has worked in restaurant supply so has a wealth of seafood knowledge. We started with a quick stop by Buddhist temple and orientation to the area, then Vasile walked us through the restaurant stalls, seafood vendors and miscellaneous shops of the Tsukiji area. Along the way we sampled some snacks like ebi senbei (shrimp pressed very flat into a rice cracker) and fresh oysters. He was also collecting little bites along the way, and took us up to have a picnic above the market, with some delicious sashimi and also excellent strawberries and freshly ground wasabi (the real stuff), accompanied by a mid-morning sake flight. It was a fun treat to have a knowledgeable guide take us through the hustle and bustle of Tsukiji, a classic Tokyo experience. Communication with Arigato was easy, clear and prompt.
Wiw! Awesome! Our guide, Vasily was incredible. He was informative, fun & really made the tour great. So fun to experience the fish market and to have a picnic of the things he purchased along the way. We even had some sake. The food was delicious. The whole tour was even better than I hoped or expected. Thanks V. Mikhailov!
We had a wonderful tour with Ully. After a visit to a temple, and a traditional Japanese breakfast in a local market, we perused the Tsajiki market selecting items (e.g. fish, strawberries, fresh wasabi we would grate ourselves) for a picnic we enjoyed on the market rooftop. Following the picnic, we visited a shrine and tour the exterior market some more. Ully's English was exceptional - it sounded as if she'd lived in the US, though she never has - enabling a little more free flowing dialogue and opportunity to ask questions about Ully and culture of Japan than with some of our other guides. I suspect her youthful enthusiasm for running tours also contributed to her candor and ease.
Loved the tour, Ully was very knowlegable, and we even fit in a temple and a shrine. We'd recommend her again! It was a good intro to Tokyo
The Tsukiji Breakfast Tour with Shigaki was an extraordinary experience in every sense and in a good way: raw and for us exotic fish for breakfast, after we wandered the market and could choose what we wanted to try, but also got recommendations. And it was all really delicious and paired with Sake. The market itself is an experience, but Shigaki made it special with his knowledge and enthusiasm for the local food and drinks. Also, at the meeting point, Turret Coffee, we had the best coffee we had in all of Tokyo!
Jane was amazing! She worked never hard to make sure we had everything we needed. The food tour was great and tasty, I never would have known any of the spots existed if it weren’t for her. The picnic was my favorite part!
Excellent food tour Jane was great
The guide was very informative and personable. He did a great job assembling food throughout the fish market to serve us a delicious lunch.
Our guide Shigeki provided us with a wonderful morning at the Tsukiji market. Without him we would have missed half the things we saw and ate. The tour included A LOT of food, we were full when it concluded!
Our tour guide Shengeki took us on a tour of the Tsukiji food market where we sampled a huge range of seafood including the famous blowfish. It was an amazing experience, the food was delicious and our guide was so informative, we learned so much during the three hours we were together. We ate in places that we wouldn’t have found if we had been on our own and tried dishes that we wouldn’t have otherwise chosen. It was a real immersion in local life and a memorable experience. We would definitely recommend.
Maki was so great- organized and informative. Such a fun morning with her.
We went on tsukiji breakfast tour , our guide was Jane - even though it rained most of the morning Jane was in great spirits and did not let bad weather interfere with her ability to provide education about the fish market and provide a fabulous eating experience Jane was awesome
Shigeki did the best! Temple visit. Wandering seamlessly at so many food stalls. A bit of lecturing about the history. And, of course, the food! Started with a small cooked nosh. And then integrated walking and eating!
Fantastic food tour with Jane the great guide. Perfect. Don't miss it.
We booked direct with Arigato Tours, no issues with booking. Our tour was led by Jacob, who was excellent and obviously is known and well liked by lots of the vendors. The food was fabulous and there was a great variety. I'd highly recommend this tour!
Glenda was a wonderful guide through the Tsukiji Fish Market. She shared so much helpful information, introduced us to local purveyors, and helped us pick out delicious food. The tour ended with a feast of sushi! I highly recommend this tour!
Clara was a great guide, information and not rushed. Delicious food. Unfortunately we were not told that we would eat so much so we had breakfast, gutted !!! We met the TUNA PRINCESS
Great fun Food was very enjoyable and our guide was very knowledgeable
Jane was a knowledgeable and friendly tour guide that went above and beyond our expectations.
Jane was excellent. Food choice was great. Well worth it.
It was really great , Jane was dynamic and funny . Thank you 🙏🏼
Makkiko was a wonderful guide. She was not only warm and welcoming, but also knew the area very well. We ate our way through the fish market with her. She is the best!
Jane was amazing. We took a three hour tour with her of the fish market and learned so much. Jane did a great job of sharing the culture and the the hidden gems of the market. She also listened to the guests and made sure she catered to what we wanted to get out of it.
We just returned from Japan so I wanted to definitely sit down and make the time to tell the world about some of the tours and places we visited. We had an opportunity to take a morning tour of Tsukiji fish market ("Private Tsukiji Breakfast") in Tokyo with Shigeki-san of Arigato travel. This was our 2nd visit to Tsukiji and our first visit was with a tour guide as well. However, the difference was night and day. Our first tour was more of a person who just walked the stalls with us speaking Japanese when we wanted to order something. Helpful, but not in-depth by any means. Shigeki-san gave us the full treatment including a carefully thought-out plan including a coffee while we discussed our day, a quick sit-down bite to eat before we got started on the tour, bites of traditional and new tik-tok-y type of foods and recommendations on where we should come back should we want to buy anything like knives or a wasabi-grater. I'm in my 50's and I've loved Japanese culture for a while and I will even admit that I learned 3 or 4 new things on this tour. My entire family had an absolute blast picking out our foods while walking the stalls of Tsukiji, then sitting down for our "picnic" to enjoy them when we were done. Shigeki-san was an excellent host - upbeat, knowledgeable, and very friendly. We highly recommend him and this tour at Arigato Travel/Food Tours.
This was my fourth group experience with Arigato Japan Food Tours, and it hit the mark. Even during last October's busy fall season, they managed a perfect, well timed walking and tasting experience at the Tsukiji central market for our large group of 15. They divided us into 3 small groups to make it more manageable. Lauren Shannon, one of the owners, was not with us this time, but the guides she selected were knowledgeable, organized, flexible, and fun to be with. They knew the oldest families in the market so it made it more personable to taste fresh tuna from a family that's been in the wholesale fish business since the 1850's. We had a variety of tastings, and some offerings were cooked. This tour is one of the highlights of Tokyo if you want to plunge into Japanese traditional food.
Fabulous tour. Excellent guides. Jacob and Sandra were extraordinary… knowledgeable, fun, full of energy and made the tour a real delight. Strong recommend.
Jane was an absolute amazing guide. She provided a unique experience all the while weaving in the history of the land and the local spots that we visited. And the food that we ate was absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to go back and experience it all again.
Loved it! Jane was very helpful in figuring out what to get! Great food, awesome personality and really knowledgeable about the market, fish and all things Japan.
Jane was a wonderful guide! She helped us get all the right foods for a group of very diverse palates. We especially liked the soup, the strawberries and the three types of tuna!
Jane is knowledgeable and lovely! We really enjoyed meeting Jane and learning about the food, and tasting it! It was a lot of fun
Jane was great! Great information. Well organized tour with great food. The length was perfect and the pacing between eating and touring was great
We did the Tsukiji fish market breakfast tour in Tokyo, fall of 2025 with Jane, of Arigato Travel. It was great. We tagged along as Jane coursed through the extensive maze of stalls. She was making selections, picking up and purchasing things along the way. She stopped to talk to some of the vendors that she knew and explained to us what we were seeing. After that, she found us a table where she laid out a generous buffet. The market was not crowded although there were other shoppers. The table was also fairly quiet. Breakfast was excellent! She was able to respect my wife’s dietary restrictions against gluten (wheat) and lactose (milk). It also was cool that she had some fresh wasabi. She scraped it or grated it on what she said was a bit of shark tail, and brushed some onto each of our plates. Yum!
This tour was very fun! The Tsukiji market had a lot of great and tasty options, the weather was perfect for an outside picnic, and the temple we also visited was so gorgeous. Jane was our tour guide and did an amazing job leading the experience!
Jane was an awesome guide through the market! Starting at Turret Coffee was just what I needed to get going. We tried a Japanese breakfast and later had a picnic of all the great foods she picked out. Tuna and pickled apricots were my favorites. Jane is great at her job and patiently answered our questions. She is passionate about sharing her love of Japan and the market. She even took the time to teach us about Shintoism at the Namiyoke Shrine when we passed it. Great trip!
Jane deftly guided our group thru the fish market uncovering hidden gems from our morning caffeine; shout out to Turret Cafe, to a cozy spot tucked above the vendor market where we enjoyed a traditional breakfast of miso soup, pickled veggies, miso glazed butter fish and marinated mackerel. She threw out a bit of history outlining the Edo period, great earthquake and how the land we stood upon was reclaimed from the sea as we gawked at the many varieties and size of crustacens available. The next food stop was procured via selections of fresh fish from the vendors below the roof top garden where we dined. the final tour stop was a yummy fruit filled pastery. Overall a great tour, a mix of food and culture capped with suggestions on how to spend the rest of the day.
Jane was great, lots of fun and very informative. Food was great and very fresh! Good mix of food throughout the entire tour
Jacob escorted us to a Japaneses temple and then through the Tsukiji Fish Market enjoying local tea and food. We met several vendors that were excellent. He was extremely knowledgeable about Japan and their food. He took us to a place where we had fun making Sashimi and eating it. The ladies that helped us were terrific. It was a pleasure, informative and fun.
