This was an amazing experience, beginning to end. Everybody gotta be involved as much as they wanted to be, the food was excellent, and the lessons were learned. I was happy to have spent this time.
This experience was phenomenal. We had booked Baba Ramen because we really wanted to learn how to make a traditional Japanese dish and take a cooking class for the first time. We booked Baba because of all the amazing 5.0 reviews and we now understand why they receive so many top notch reviews. The whole time it was so much fun and we learned so much. Leo and Mai were our instructors and they did an awesome time teaching us and showing us hands on how to make everything. We still have some time left in Japan, but I can’t imagine having another experience here that could match this one! Thank you so much Leo and Mai!
Marugame Seimen – Komono Branch The pork shabu-shabu dipping udon is delicious. There are three varieties available: sesame sauce, spicy, and seafood flavor. They also offer a wide selection of tempura; the vegetable, shrimp, fish, squid, and egg tempura are all excellent. While the soy sauce-based broth udon is great, the curry udon and mentaiko (spicy cod roe) with egg udon are also highly recommended. The shop is located in the town of Komono, Mie Prefecture, about an hour's drive from Nagoya and near Yunoyama Onsen. The area features Mount Gozaisho, where you can take a ropeway to the summit for stunning views. There are also hot springs nestled in the mountains, offering a truly relaxing experience.
We booked months in advance. Our appointment was cancelled twice, and once it was rebooked. We were told at short notice that the date was not possible again on the new day due to circumstances, and all dates up to day x where we are in Tokyo are fully booked. Thank God we cancelled in time. I find it annoying because we had really booked several months in advance and were really looking forward to the course.
As a professional chef, this was exactly the kind of cooking class I was looking for. It was technical, professional and detailed, while still being enjoyable and easy to follow. Jay, our chef, was incredibly knowledgeable about ramen, and you could really feel her passion for cooking and ramen throughout the entire class. She explained every step clearly, slowly and with great patience, always taking the time to answer all of our questions. I especially appreciated that she explained not only what we were doing, but also why — something that, as a chef, I found very valuable. The ramen and gyoza we had for lunch were absolutely delicious! They also shared some great recipes with us, and the PDF recipe manual provided after the class is incredibly useful, well explained and very detailed. It is something I will definitely keep and use again at home. A fantastic experience from beginning to end. I would highly recommend this class, especially to anyone who really loves cooking and wants to understand the techniques behind authentic ramen rather than simply follow a recipe.
It was such an amazing experience! The chef was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole class fun and engaging. The quality of the ramen was outstandin It was totally worth it, and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves ramen or wants to experience Japanese food culture.
This is hands down my favorite cooking class and i’ve taken 5 at this point. The teachers Eric and Jay were amazing, it was clear that they knew exactly what they were doing. Their instructions were clear and to the point with great explanations. The class itself was hard work but it was very rewarding and organized. I would absolutely take this class again and would recommend others to take it if they want a real Japanese ramen making experience, just be prepared to work.
An amazing class. Very in depth about how all parts of the ramen are made and you get to help with all parts, not just making the noodles. The gyoza’s we made were delicious. It was my first time eating ramen ever. And it was the best bowl of ramen of my whole trip.
Really great experience overall and super great bonding for our group as well!! Would recommend
This is my third trip to Japan and the first time I have taken a cooking class here. What an absolute treat. Our instructors were top notch and it was a blast. We started by learning about ramen and quickly got into making our own ramen from scratch, including the noodles! We also learned how to make gyoza, which we had as a snack prior to finishing the ramen. I would rank this as a do not miss experience in Tokyo.
It was one of my best experience in Japan, and best cooking class I have ever had. The teachers were very kind, really went into the details of ramen, had us participate in every step of the process, and everything was very well structured. The ramen bowl and giozas we made and ate were truly delicious, and they were able to adapt the class and ingredients so that I could prepare everything vegan,
This was wonderful! Highly interactive and hands on. I felt like I truly learned how to make ramen and left for much more respect and appreciation for the process. The instructors were warm and knowledgeable and made for a fun and inviting morning! Highly recommend!!
Gary and Leo did an awesome job in organising the 7 of us to make the Gyoza and Ramen. They new their stuff, were amazing in their organisation and we confidently turned out perfect Gyozas and wonderful tasting Ramen. The 4 hours was packed with knowledge and things to do. One of the best "tours" we have done.
It was a pleasure joining this class. I learned a lot about ramen and gyoza, and the experience was filled with fun and great vibes. Truly an enjoyable and informative session!
It was very fun and informative and the staff were very helpful and kind and made good conversation!
Yoshi and Amo are so warm and welcoming to their cozy and uber efficient cooking space. We had six kids in our group, with ages ranging from 10-14 and they were all able to participate in every step of the process, including chopping veggies, making noodles, folding the gyoza and constructing the bowl of ramen. We were thoroughly engaged throughout the entire process and were rewarded with delicious food at the end!
If you’re looking for an unforgettable Tokyo experience, stop scrolling and book this class. My mom, brother, sister, and I spent a morning learning the ins and outs of ramen, and it was genuinely one of the highlights of our trip. For three hours, we were completely immersed in ramen culture, not just eating it, but understanding it. The instructors took us through the history of ramen, the five essential elements of a bowl, and the surprising amount of labor and love that goes into something most of us slurp down in minutes. What really sets this class apart is how hands-on it is. We didn’t just watch someone make noodles… we made them ourselves. Kneading dough, rolling it out, cutting noodles, it was all us. We also learned how to prepare some of our favorite toppings, like chashu pork and soft-boiled eggs, and even got to wrap our own gyoza (which were ridiculously good). Of course, ramen broth takes days to make, so we couldn’t finish a full batch in-class. But we did get to participate in the beginning stages, breaking down pork and chicken bones and learning the technique behind a truly flavorful broth. It gave us a whole new appreciation for every bowl we’ve ever eaten. The instructors were absolute gems: knowledgeable, funny, and so engaged with the group that the entire class felt warm, lively, and genuinely joyful. We laughed, we learned, we asked a hundred questions, and we ate the fruits of our labor at the end, assembling our very own ramen bowls with all the toppings. And yes… it tasted as good as it sounds. If you’re searching for something meaningful, fun, and delicious to do in Tokyo, take this class with Baba Ramen. It’s more than a cooking class, it’s a memory you’ll talk about long after you’ve flown home.
This is a fantastic class and a great way to experience a part of Japanese culture. Andy and his team are very friendly and passionate about ramen! This is a hands on in depth experience with amazing food and a recipe book at the end. Looking forward to continuing our ramen and gyoza journey at home.
Excellent experience! The team was organized, professional, highly knowledgeable, and welcoming. The kitchen was well-equipped. The food- superb!! I take cooking classes wherever I travel. This is BY FAR the best cooking class experience I have had. I highly recommend this class and Andrew and his team!! Don't miss!
It was such an amazing, hands on, and fun cooking class! We learned so much about the history, techniques and etiquette of ramen. This is one of the most hands on cooking classes we have ever done. Highly recommend!
What a fantastic experience I had been in Tokyo 3 days and this was by far the best experience I had had. Andrew and his team were brilliant, enthusiastic’ very knowledgeable ,attentive and very patient. It’s a great experience for all levels of cooking ability, I’m a chef of 30 + years and I learned so much, the rest of the class were novice cook’s but we were all treated and taught at the same pace and level. I would highly recommend this to anyone who would like to learn how to cook an amazing bowl of Ramen. 10/10
It was a great morning. You all get involved in different things. They provide good explanations and instructions. Lots of food.
This was such a great class for people who want to appreciate all of the time, work, and love that goes into ramen. We felt like real chefs for the hours we were in our experience, and were taught valuable techniques and recipes that I will be putting to work back home. The instructors were great — Andy, Jay, Leo, and especially Katrina, who was so sweet to us, and Eric, who did most of the instruction with our group and was a wonderful teacher. They were all warm, welcoming people who were happy to answer questions and work with their students to make delicious food. We loved the class and I highly recommend!
My husband and I did this cooking class on our wedding anniversary and it was awesome! The instructors (Eric, Jay, and Leo) were so fun and made the class entertaining. They kept everyone busy with different tasks and it was cool seeing everything come together. This was some of the best ramen we have ever had and some of our favorite food we had on our two-week trip to Japan. Definitely an unforgettable experience!
It was fun and yes you are included into almost every part of the ramen making. That makes it more interesting anf you feel like you actually made it. Love every second of it and the end result was tasty.
We had such a fantastic time and learnt so much! Our chefs were friendly, fun and easy company and had the whole experience running smoothly. We ate delicious ramen and gyoza until we were fit to bursting, learnt lots and will definitely be recommending this to our friends -Thankyou Baba Ramen
This is a really fun activity but be prepared to work! The two men teaching the class were knowledgeable fun and entertaining. They provided a tremendous amount of information and kept the 7 of us constantly busy. And the results were delicious!
Outstanding!. An intense cooking and learning experience. You spend a solid 4hrs learning and participating in all the steps to make an excellent ramen dish. Covers from making broths, complements and noodles. A really fun time with a highly professional group. Totally recommend.
This was one of the best experiences I have had while traveling to Japan. I loved this activity from the teachers/chefs helping us to the atmosphere and the food, it was incredible. I like that I got to learn a new skill set, have a good time, and then eat some amazing ramen and gyoza. If you are traveling to Japan and have the time, you need to do this. They send you home with the recipes as well. It’s been fun taking a little bit of knowledge of Japanese cuisine home with me! :)
Very informative and fun! I learned how much work went into making ramen and we had amazing teachers who made the process fun! I would definitely come back again!
So fun!!! Great experience. Chefs were interesting, informative and the food was great!! Small restaurant that turns into an Italian spot at night. We loved it!
We LOVED this class! We made ramen completely from scratch & also made gyoza in 4 hours! This is very hands-on! You make the broth from bones, make homemade noodles, cut veggies, etc. It was so delicious! The instructors were great! They take pics of your group throughout the day & send them to you at the end. I highly recommend doing this if you are interested in learning to make ramen!
Our family of five had the best time at Baba Ramen! We always do cooking classes on our vacations and this one ranked right up there with the best. Unlike many other classes, they really put you to work. We were doing something for the entire time, in the kitchen with hot pans and oils, breaking chicken bones, rolling out noodles. We really felt like we cooked the meal and it was delicious! Also very personable chefs to help guide us! Highly recommend!
Met our expectations 100%. Friendly, informative and hands on cooking class. We learned how to make ramen.
Great experience! Andrew and team were informative and organized…it was a lot of fun and you got a great ramen meal at the end! Now, let’s see how well I do recreating the meal at home. :-)
Great experience! The staff was very knowlegeable about the different ingredients and processes making ramen. They walked us through every step of the process. Honestly, I never realized how much planning went into making proper ramen. The gyoza portion was also very fun! I really liked learning how to fold each one. Definately a learning experience.
What is there not to love about being shown what's involved when preparing Ramen bowl and Gyoza by passionate people who really care and make you feel welcome regardless of your skill level ,showing you patiently each step as you prepare hands on your lunch for the group of 8 intrepid characters including you!
This was such a fun experience! We learned so much and will be making dishes once we return home from the recipes we were given. Great class!
You never know EXACTLY what you’re gonna get from a cooking class. You always expect it to be a good learning experience and opportunity to do some level of cooking you can’t/wouldn’t do at home, but the real question mark is whether you’re going to have FUN doing it. That depends on two things, one that is completely controlled by the staff and one that kind of isn’t. The one that isn’t is the quality of the other people in your class. We got lucky there as our group members were all eager to learn, excited to be there and energetic when we engaged them in conversation. The thing the staff can control is how they behave and I can’t imagine a better group of people than Eric, Jae, and Leo. Knowledgeable, personable, fun, friendly, and always upbeat, it was legitimately difficult to walk away at the end from such an excellent group and wonderful experience. It seems a tad pricey, but I’d recommend this in a heartbeat.
I have done my fair share of cooking classes before. And I have done a ramen class in Japan before. In fact, on this trip, this was my 4th cooking class. Without hesitation and reservation, this is by far the best class I have attended, ever, anywhere. I loved the setting, the intimacy, and the teamwork format. That was very unique. At the end of it, along with a great bowl of ramen, some gyozas, a 54 page cookbook, a headful of knowledge, you will find a whole new appreciation for ramen and the people that dedicated their life to this heart-warming cuisine. The course was a 4 hour course. After the introduction, it was non-stop hand-on experience. I remember sitting down after everything was done. It was glorious. The thing was I didn’t realise I was up cooking for all that time because the class was educational, hands on, and most importantly, fun. As a “ramen-head”, I loved every moment of it. The beauty is that you basically do everything from scratch. We had to pressure cook the broth to fit the cooking within the timeframe, but for most, I think that’s exactly how we would cook it back home, and that was great. The communication and coordination among the staff were impeccable. It started with Karina. My class had to be moved, but she made it so easy. In hindsight, I am glad the class was moved. I think the 9am class was better from a scheduling standpoint. It gave me some time to clean up myself before the rest of the day. Jay was the main instructor. She was thorough and clear with her instructions. She was also very hands-on so you definitely get guidance throughout Leo was helpful at the ramen making station, and explained well how perfect noodle should be made. Eric, though new, was great. If he didn’t know something exactly, he would double check before telling you (to be fair, most of the time, he was correct before checking). I appreciated that. Then there was Andrew, the boss. You knew from talking to him that he lived and bled this. It was great to see the passion. As mentioned, the class ran like a team and how a ramen restaurant would be run. So you may miss 1–2 activities, but you would be taught on how it was done before someone else did it, while you focus on your station. To be honest, I was happy not dicing onions. If I have to nitpick (and this is some serious nitpicking), I would have loved if the team ask at the beginning if there is a task you wouldn’t want to do or love to do. Maybe not everyone is comfortable bashing bone, maybe some people love to learn more about plating (that’s me. I love plating). I, personally, would have loved to do everything but I understood that there wasn’t enough time and everyone must have their chance. It was nice the class floated along seamlessly. But honestly, not doing above DIDNT take away from the experience. I was there and I watched how it would need to be done. If you couldn’t tell, I would highly recommend this course. I sent videos and photos the staff took of us to my friend who owned a ramen shop in Tokyo. His word: “wow - the real deal”. If you like ramen, this is the class for you. Honestly, I may do this course again with my family.
An amazing experience! I went with three other people and we all had so much fun. The staff was very knowledgeable, everyone spoke great English. The ramen and gyoza was delicious and I feel like I learned so much! Highly recommend!
This course was phenomenal. The instructors were very knowledgeable and friendly. Not only did they give you the instructions on how to make the ramen, they give you the cultural background history about each step of the process, a quick lesson on etiquette, and the varieties of ramen you can make. Our family had a great time and we highly recommend this course. The Ramen also was delicious.
What an amazing experience. Not only making ramen and gyozas, but also eating our creation after our hard work! This class was so fun and rewarding and I would recommend this to anybody (regardless of your cooking skills). The chefs are very patient and kind to us.
I really enjoyed my experience with the team! They're a really nice group of chefs who are patient and kind. I enjoyed being able to hear stories from them about their lives and how they ended up in Japan. They cracked jokes with us and we all laughed together, and they were really easy to talk to. They're all great teachers who helped us whenever we needed it, and encouraged us to try new things that we would initially be nervous about. The staff all spoke english which made it slightly less daunting, but honestly it was just their energy and welcoming nature that made the experience the most fun. They're accommodating to people with allergies as well. The ramen and gyoza you end up with are so delicious, probably one of the best bowls I'd eaten my whole trip. Everything is so flavorful and the noodles are the perfect texture. You honestly will not regret taking this lesson!!
A brilliantly organised and fun morning. The tasks are so many that the group is split and assigned jobs just like in a Ramen kitchen, but you get involved in all of the learning jobs so you’re picking up ‘the good oil’ on how to make authentic ramen. From making my own soba noodles, through to smashing and cleaning the bones, this course will not disappoint. I’d actually like to do it again sometime so my brain can absorb more info, but the course notes and all the recipes are top class. This is the best cooking course I’ve done (and I’ve done quite a few!) Thanks team, it’s been a great contribution to my holiday.
Very well organised. Great bunch of guys. Very knowledgeable on all things Ramen. Had a great day and lunch, enjoying our mornings work.
OMG this ramen & gyoza class was AMAZING! 🍜✨ Two super cool chefs showed us all their secrets - who knew making authentic ramen took so much work?! The best part? Making our OWN NOODLES from scratch! Seriously felt like a pro chef for a day! We got to devour everything we made and it was INSANELY good! No joke, this class was the highlight of our Tokyo trip. If you're visiting Japan and love food, book this experience!!
This was one of the highlights of my trip to Japan. Our chef/teaches were amazing, very knowledgeable, patient and fun. Everyone had to help in all stages of ramen making process. Four hours went by so fast. Be prepared to work hard but you get to eat the best bowl of ramen in the end.
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan! We loved learning how to make the lattice for gyoza and what goes into a good bowl of ramen. Even my 84 year old dad loved it. The instructors were knowledgeable and fun. I loved torching the pork belly and learning how to break the pork bones to release the marrow. It was a great experience.
