This was a spectacular tour!. So many eclectic food sites that our tour guide Claire took us to. The food outlets and the iconic historical places she took us to really added to the experience. She was patient, thorough and knowledgeable...had clearly done her homework on the area! I met so many people that I'm still in contact with long after the tour! So much fun and enriching. Thank you Claire!

Perfect family food tour! Masako kept our 13-year-old daughter engaged with fun stops, delicious food, and fascinating local stories. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our guide, Ray, was excellent! He gave us such interesting info of the area, and took us to delicious restaurants.
Our food tour in Asakusa was excellent. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly.
Great, surprising tour, with some delicious things to eat! Heartily recommended the tempura garlic cloves and the amazing pancake! Wonderful company and lots of new things discovered. Thank you Jacob x
Makki was welcoming and friendly from the beginning. We had many samples and tastings before enjoying five or six delicious dishes at a traditional restaurant that uses whatever was fresh at the market that morning. As we walked around the Asakusa area we learnt so much about the history of the district from Makki. The evening finished with matcha crepes filled with cream and ice cream. All in all a delicious and educational evening!
Our family toured around with Kaz for 3 hours and had a great time. Our kids are 7, 10, and 13 and he was able to make the tour engaging for them as well as the two other ~20 year olds who were on our tour. It was nice having someone to guide us around Asakusa and the shrine as it was incredibly busy. It made it a lot easier to experience a bunch different food stalls and get context on the area.
Meeca was a fantastic tour guide. She was very knowledgeable and took us to many hidden gems that we would never have found on our own. There were several cool little activities for our 7 year old daughter mixed into the tour and she really felt a part of it.
Our evening in Asakusa with Ema was honestly one of the highlights of our Tokyo trip. He has such a sweet and calming presence, and he made sure the entire experience felt slow, enjoyable, and perfectly paced. We tasted so many delicious dishes, each one better than the last, and his recommendations were absolutely spot-on. It felt less like a tour and more like walking around with a friend who truly knows and loves the area. Thank you, Ema, for such a memorable and heartwarming night in Asakusa. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide!
Great evening walking tour through Asakusa, so much better than battling the crowds during the day. Our guide took us to some interesting and tasty food stalls as well as giving us a great experience of the area at night.
Our tour started in the morning and we visited the market. We learned so much and tried so many things. Jacob our guide was great and spoke perfect English. We had tuna sushi cut fresh in front of us (the best we have ever had). We tried fresh oysters, beef sashimi and many other things. The tour ended with a picnic to enjoy all of the the items we saw in the market. Great way to try many things.
We were kind of underwhelmed by this food tour. We didn't eat anything that blew us away. In particular, I was surprised we didn't eat any sushi. Some of the food we ate actually gave me a terrible stomach ache. It was pretty expensive and I didn't feel it was worth the money.
Wesley was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and we learned a lot about Asakusa and Japanese culture. The food was was great too! Highly recommend.
Ray is a great and passionate guy. He gave us a great welcome on our very first day in Japan! Tour was interesting and food was great! Ray provided us with interesting info along the tour and he was a pleasure to be with! He’s a nice, chatty and fun guy..would totally recommend!
We took the Asakusa Tour on our first day in Tokyo. It was a pleasant introduction to Japanese (food) culture and to the Asakusa area. Our guide Makiko was very friendly and could answer many of our questions about the history of the area and places we visited. We enjoyed our evening and can recommend the food tour.
We had a wonderful time on our food tour guided by Sandra. She was an excellent host who helped us to try some things we might otherwise have missed. She was great with our kids and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her if you are looking for a guide.
We went on the Asakusa Twilight Tour and it was incredible!! The food was delicious and our guide, Wes was amazing! He showed us a bunch of cute and hidden spots around the neighborhood! We had a wonderful time!!! The tour was family friendly as well!'
All four of us want to give Wesley a whole hearted 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 review after today’s Tokyo food tour! He took us around the Houzouman temple and environs for sweet and savoury snacks and a delicious lunch and hoppi at [can’t remember the name of the restaurant]. A Californian by birth but an enthusiastic almost-permanent resident of Japan, Wesley was truly delightful, generously sharing his insider knowledge of the city with our group. Arigatou gozaimasu from the Petersen family! 🍺🍙🍤🍣🥢 ps. waiting for the group photos he took or I’d attach those here too!
Food tour of Asakusa was wonderful! Our Guide, Ray, was great. The food and locations, history of the area, all of it was perfect! Highly recommend using this company. Enjoy Japan!
Not an enjoyable, well planned or family friendly experience. We felt uncomfortable many times. Two of our stops were unsuitable for kids - and really, just poor choices (boozy hole in the wall where the workers were drunk, and a smoking restaurant with food that made us sick).
The food tour was fabulous. Plenty of variety of flavours and textures. Serena and Michie were friendly and professional. Their commentary was entertaining and informative.
Jacob was a great resource and provided a wonderful food tour with several unique items. Asked and delivered the kind of food experience we were hoping for!
The asakusa tour was a highlight of our trip and something we would recommend people do if in Tokyo. We did it on our first day in Tokyo as it helped us with how to approach dining and eating for the rest of our trip. The tour was a great combination of food and history. The visits to the shrine and temple were also invaluable for our understanding of how to approach these for all the rest we visited on the trip. We tried food we wouldn’t otherwise have known to try. The kids had fun and it was great seeing the unexpected tastes that were their favourite. Really recommend this if you can. Michie was our guide and she was lovely and knowledgeable throughout.
Great guided tour of Asakusa with stop offs for tasting local specialities and lunch at a local eatery. Photos shared after the event.
Alejandra took my daughter and I on this walking tour our 2nd day in Tokyo, felt like we were getting to know Asakusa, plus info re other areas of Tokyo with a good friend. The walk was not too long for us, full of history, religion and knowledge of Japan, the Shrine in the evening was super special, the food was yummy comfort food, drinks overflowing (if you want), loved the new snacks we tried (and bought to take home) - just a fun, relaxing, easy night to begin our Japan adventure. The photos of the 2 of us were special too! Thanks Alejandra and Arigato Tours! (PS we paid $120usd each, not 230+ ea).
Awesome tour with Wesley! Learned so much more about Japan and the area than I thought I would. My 13 yr old daughter had a great time as well. Wes did a great job tailoring the tour to best fit the group.
My guide Josh was very knowledgeable about the area and about the local food and customs. Overall it was great experience. I especially enjoyed eating noodles at a standup counter and the Izy Kaya.
My family and I had a great time on the Asakusa tour in Tokyo. Our guide, Wes, was extremely welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. The food spots we visited were varied, delicious, and checked a number of boxes for our vacation to Japan. The cultural spots were, of course, excellent as well. Wes had great knowledge about every place we visited, food-related or otherwise. Additionally, and of special note, we had an infant with us. That could be challenging for a tour guide, especially for a food tour in Tokyo. Wes was more than accommodating when we needed to adjust our pace to do feedings and things like that, and was helpful in ensuring that our little one was as comfortable as we were. We'd highly recommend Arigato Tours, and Wes in particular.
Michie and Wesley are excellent guides! They were very personable, knowledgeable, and patient. It was 35C with 70% humidity that day and they even gave us their own cooling products to stay cool! I appreciated how quickly Viator accommodated last minute information a nut allergy in our group. All the food was delicious and no epi pen required! The only improvement for Viator is the location map in their app. The first map was great for directions to the train station. But the second map to the meeting point is actually the end point. I assumed it was the correct location without double checking the address. So we were late meeting up with our guides. Overall, it was a fantastic tour and I would highly recommend it!
Our guide Kay was fantastic! The food selections were authentically Japanese and off the beaten path. She provided depth to the food tastings with her expansive knowledge of Japanese language, history, and culture. She made it enjoyable for all ages. A must do in Tokyo.
We had a good time on this tour and our guide was really sweet and personable. However, for the price point (this tour cost nearly 3x the amount of our favorite food tour with another company in Japan 😳), I'm not sure the value is there. For example, in other tours, we stopped at places to taste foo that we didn't recognize or wouldn't have been drawn towards. On this tour, we had fried chicken and shaved ice...things my kids probably would have asked for anyway. We were also hoping that there might be other kids on the tour so my kids could talk with them while we got a little downtime, but no luck. Overall, absolutely nothing to complain about, but I would probably just wander the area on my own.
This was a terrific tour. We wandered around the old district of Asakusa in Tokyo. The highlights for us was tasting the many and varied types of food on offer. We would never have had the courage to try so much if we had been on our own. Our guide Makki purchased food for us (even knowing which vendors to purchase from was a help as there are so many!) and then coached us in the etiquette of eating the food (one doesn't eat whilst walking in the street). Makki was very knowledgeable and extremely kind, always having a serviette and rubbish bag on hand for us!
Moto was our tour guide and she did an amazing job. It was our first day in country, so this was a perfect introduction! She was so accommodating and sweet! My wife and son enjoyed the tour thoroughly and she was super informative!
We had a wonderful few hours with Moroni, exploring Asakusa and sampling Japanese food. My son was really excited to try the different foods, and it helped us know what we were eating for the rest of the trip. Motivo was so gracious and kind and she answered all of our questions about Japanese food and dining culture, and more. And she went out of her way to make it kid-friendly, with origami and fish catching and more. Heads up - you can use the toilet on the basement floor of the Cultural Center before you meet for the tour.
I was not overly impressed by this tour, particularly since the price is very high. I learned very little about Japan or Tokyo. I don't feel like our guide was very knowledgeable. I wouldn't recommend it.
We really enjoyed our tour. Our guide Kay was very knowledgeable and engaging, but also fun and super friendly. The whole family enjoyed sampling the food and visiting this beautiful area and the Senso-ji temple. We were very happy and we feel we learned a lot! We would recommend the experience. Thanks Kay and Arigato travel team!!
My daughter (9) and I recently took the Asakusa Food Tour. We. Had an excellent experience. Our guide, Josh, was very knowledgeable, helpful, and engaging. We learned a lot about the area (and Tokyo/Japan in general) that we would not have otherwise learned. Highly recommend!
Michie was such an amazing host to our family of 5 (including 3 small children!). She was warm, knowledgeable, and very personable. Although some of our stops ran long (it was a crowded time of the season), she still stayed with us till the end and the tour ran smoothly. We were able to sample all kinds of yummy snacks, had lunch as well, and learned so much about the food and the history of food in Japan. Would highly recommend.
We had Wesley as our guide for this food tour and he was Amazing !!! Very nice and kind and passionate about his work :) We highly recommend this tour Thank you Wesley !
I went with my two teenage boys. Wes (Wesley) was fantastic. He gave the tour a great personal touch, with a good sense of humor. He showed us local shops and restaurants with their back stories, and had us taste new snacks we didn’t know anything about before. And as an added bonus, he understood the latest Japanese anime, which meant he had a lot to talk about with my boys. Time just flew. Thanks Wes, and thanks Arigato.
We had a private tour with Satoko as our guide. The area we walked through, Taito, was not too touristy and seemed to be a vibrant community with many local specialty food vendors and restaurants. We snacked our way through the neighborhood, had a tasty lunch. We also had a shortened tea service with antique cups. The one I drank from was 180 years old. Throughout, our guide, Satoko, gave a running informative commentary that I found unusually good. It was a great way to spend a mid-day in Tokyo.
This tour was the best experience. Daisuke was an amazing guide, with excellent English, very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area and a great sense of humour! We went to all the major scenic/tourist areas such as Kaminarimin, Sensoji temple and Namise street. Daisuke is a videographer and took photos of our family at each spot - and knew where the best photo spots were! The food was delicious for all the family, including a fussy child and a vegetarian. Cannot recommend this tour more highly, it was that good.
Our family of three (two adults and one almost 12 year old) enjoyed our food tour of Asakusa! Our guide Motoko was friendly and knowledgeable, and loved showing new things to our curious child. We stopped by several local shops to try some traditional items and had a delicious lunch at an izakaya. I would definitely recommend using Arigato tours to gain new insight into Tokyo food culture!
This is the 4-5th tour we’ve done with Arigato Japan Food tours. And they never disappoint. Our first tour, was with Anne, just with my husband, 6 years ago. Throughout, the years we’ve done various tours in different cities - Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto. This is the first tour we did with the kids - 9 and 12 yrs. Old. It was wonderful. The kids learned tried and enjoyed different foods and got to learn some history about the temple. It was really nice to enjoy the temple as the sunset. It’s as so peaceful. We got to say a little prayer at the temple without the noise and having to rush because of the crowds. Truly magical. Josh our tour guide did a great job of sharing history and keeping it light hearted to keep the kids engaged. The kids loved how Josh made it fun. Til our next tour Arigato tours!
For starters we got turned arounds with google maps and got to the meet up spot late. I was so upset, but our 2 guides were sooooo accomodating and kind. I envisioned this as a 'food tour', but it was so much more. It was history, culture, games and a learning adventure for the kids. We of course sampled some of the most unique and delicious foods that we would not have without them. We also had a brief language lesson along the way. Funny enough one of the guides and I knew people in common from our tiny town in the U.S. I can speak for the whole family when I say we were blown away by this experience and it was the perfect start to our Japanese experience.
We did a tour of Asakusa with Arigato Tours in Tokyo Japan with Michie and Motorola as our guides .Even though it was billed as a family tout my partner and I really loved it .Lovely interesting food and lovely company
Had a great time on the tour - it was a perfect combination of learning about the area and its history, trying out a couple of fun activities for the kids, and great food. Would highly recommend the tour and our guide Mitche.
Our guide, Michie, was exceptional. Highly recommend this tour for families with kids and teens. We tried some amazing foods and Michie gave us lots of historical information along the way. A great way to discover Asakusa.
Michie was fabulous! We loved the tour as did my ten year old son. We felt that it was a great value and Michie was very accommodating and generous. We also learned so much. Thank you Michie!
Family food tour in Tokyo! Ventured to a neighborhood that we probably would have never explored and certainly tried some great local snacks that we would have not otherwise tried. They were very accommodating for our two kids, 5 and 8. They went out of their way to involve them in the tour and keep them happy and interested, despite the Tokyo heatwave. We had a wonderful experience and would absolutely try another tour here in Tokyo or another city with the company.
