Itinerary
Sushi Making Class – English-Friendly Japanese Cooking Experience Experience the joy of making sushi in Japan with friendly, English-speaking instructors — no experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity and appetite! What makes sushi special is the endless variety of ingredients and styles you can explore. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn to make: -Nigiri (hand-pressed sushi) -Inari (sweet tofu pouch sushi) -Hosomaki (thin roll) -California Roll We begin with a short introduction to essential Japanese ingredients — such as dashi, miso, and traditional seasonings — followed by a demonstration. Next comes sushi prep: start by making tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet), which will be used as a filling in your sushi rolls. Then, prepare sushi rice and toppings such as shrimp. Once everything is ready, you'll learn how to roll and shape your own sushi with full guidance. After making your sushi, sit down and enjoy your meal with miso soup, fresh wasabi, and pickled ginger — our instructors support you every step of the way, so relax and have fun! Note: We use pre-sliced fish. This class does not include raw fish cutting instruction.

The sushi making class was amazing. The 2 instructors were so knowledgeable and encouraging. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
The instructors made our experience super fun by teaching us tricks of the trade, taking the time to answer every question and just keeping the entire class engaged. This is a must experience!
Yummy and educational way to spend the afternoon. If anything we made too much food. We could have gone for a slightly quicker pace, but overall a really wonderful time. Friendly teachers and clean location.
Great experience. Informative and fun. I ended up making amazing Sushi and will be able to do it back home. Loved the two ladies instructors. Highly recommended.
We were a big group of about 17 people yet everyone managed to be included! The teachers were amazing and really kind. They explained everything very well, included is with small questions, taught us some japanese manners and helped us make AMAZING sushi. I really recommend this!
Super fun experience! Not only did we learn to make sushi, but we also learned about history, culture, and geography of Japan. Definitely recommend.
Miki and Yuki were fabulous during our family’s sushi making class. The instructor, Miki, was a wonderful and kind person who taught us cooking techniques and educated us about some of the nuances of Japanese history and culture of which we were not aware. She was able to connect with each member of my family and was also patient and helpful when some of us were not always at the same level as others. The recipes were easy to follow with their guidance as well as some advance prep work they did. I do feel like we would be able to replicate many of the recipes at home. Would highly recommend to anyone regardless of skill level and would love to go back and do other classes with them.
Just fantastic. If my grandmother was Japanese and had a cooking class in the middle of Tokyo, yet in a very quiet and peaceful residential area, this would be it! Class is 10 people, very clean informative and friendly. I've taken similar courses in other cities but this was my favorite!
Our cooking instructors did a wonderful job teaching not only how to make sushi, but mixing in some cultural, historical, and language information. We selected this in part because they offered gluten-free options. They were very careful about cross contamination.
Lovely experience learning how to make sushi, from the preparation of "dashi" fish stock through to California rolls (and why they have the rice on the outside) and hand formed classics. Friendly atmosphere with good English, clean and hygienic with enough equipment for all. Well planned so that we got through lots of items in the session and left with a very full tummy afterwards! Would highly recommend.
We loved our sushi making class. The staff were extremely kind and patient and spoke excellent English. They even helped us to learn some Japanese phrases! We left feeling very full after enjoying eating the sushi we had made! Looking forward to trying to make it at home with the recipes provided. Highly recommend. Thank you!
What a fun sushi making experience! I learned so much about the foods and the ingredients we were working with. The space was very clean and well presented. The staff spoke great English and was very kind and patient every step of the way. I am excited to try making sushi at home now!
Yummy and Yuka both spoke excellent English. This was a fun activity for us and our teen. The ingredients were fresh, and we all created a large plate of sushi that was nice looking and delicious. Would not hesitate to recommend this class to someone who enjoys sushi.
We absolutely loved this sushi-making class! The perfect blend of demonstration and hands-on experience made it both educational and fun. The instructors were incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The pace was spot on—giving us plenty of time to ask questions, practice techniques, and truly enjoy the process without ever feeling rushed. The recipes were accessible yet still offered new skills and insights, and everything we made was fresh, beautiful, and delicious. Being welcomed into a family home made the whole experience feel personal and warm—more like learning from friends than attending a formal class. Highly recommend!
A memorable and enjoyable sushi preparation lesson, very professionally led by delightful teachers. An excellent cookery studio set back from the main roads in a quiet residential area, that catered ideally for a small group of 8 participants. The tuition was expertly led in a charming manner, the facilities and equipment first rate and the final dishes that we created were really good and tasted delicious! Moreover, it was a fun activity. Thoroughly recommended as we really enjoyed it.
Highly recommend this sushi class, the host Hidem and her assistant were lovely. Not only did we make sushi which is an art form in itself she taught us about the history of Japan through the ingredients and had a lovely bubbly personality to match. We made maki rolls, California rolls, sashimi and tofu.
The teachers were to friendly, welcoming and patient. Their English was fantastic. Their expertise and explanation behind dishes was outstanding. A lot of fun and would highly recommend.
Miki and Yuki gave us a very interesting experience. The workshop was hands-on, we all got to cook. The kitchen was well equipped and we got to understand concepts in Japanese sushi making
Such a fun class. The ladies were lovely, helpful and accommodating of my dietary needs. Our entire tour group made sushi. A must do in Tokyo
The ladies who taught the class were amazing and we learned so many things about sushi making. Would love to experience it again!
I really enjoyed the sushi class! It was led by local professional chefs who were very knowledgeable and welcoming. We were a group of nine people, and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun. The instructors were very attentive to everyone's allergies and dietary requirements, and they explained each step clearly and patiently. It was a great experience, and we ended up making some truly excellent sushi. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in learning how to make sushi from scratch!
Excellent instructors teaching us how to make sushi. Interesting tidbits about Japanese culture and the history of making sushi. Friendly and enjoyed the food after the class. Small enough class in a horseshoe shape so everyone could talk and enjoy each other. Definitely a high point in our 11-day trip to Tokyo/Kyoto. Clear directions sent from the instructors on how to get to the location.
Excellent experience! We learnt everything from making miso soup and sushi rice then to actually assembling the rolls. Then there was a delicious meal at the end! Recommend!
This was such a lovely experience! We had great time and learned a lot in the process. The hosts are so sweet and accommodating. Don’t hesitate to book and come hungry! :)
My husband and I attended a three hour group of 8 sushi making class. Hosts Miki and Michi were informative, friendly and helpful. The class was also great fun. Good hygiene and step by step instructions. Fresh high quality ingredients and you get to eat what you make - a large plate is great sushi. Highly recommended this experience
I very much enjoyed the class. Small group of nine student, great teacher and amazing food. I was surprised to learn sushi making in such a short time. I would highly recommend it.
Fantastic instruction (in English) and delicious sushi to eat! Nice small class size in a pleasant, clean environment.
What a fun and interesting experience! A must for all sushi lovers! Yuca and Yummy were wonderful friendly and full of knowledge about the foods we were making, providing us with some history as well. If you have a few hours this is not to be missed on your trip to Tokyo!
Yummy Yuma and Yuki are amazing. They teach so well and the food tastes so good. The small class felt very special and unique. I would recommend everyone to try this class
Really enjoyed this 8 person class and a big thank you to instructors Yummy and Chikako! We and our 19 year old son learned a lot and the class was well set up and thought through. The place is not difficult to find if you put Cooking Sun Tokyo in google and once you are there just follow the last bit of instruction from confirmation email.
I was traveling through japan and loved taking this class! It’s very fun and informative. I recommend on hot days to stay cool but any weather makes for a good time. I would encourage any friend or family to go.
This was probably the best thing we have done during our visit to Japan. The ladies running the activity were extremely engaging and delightful company for the afternoon. They taught us some very helpful methods for producing fantastic sushi as well as miso soup. I have made sushi myself at home before and I’m very excited to do this again with the new techniques. I have learnt techniques that will make it so much more professional We had a truly enjoyable and memorable afternoon and were completely full after our delicious sushi at the end of the afternoon. Highly recommended.
Great class! It was cool learning how to prepare and make my own sushi. The time flew by and it was awesome eating it all at the end. If they offered something to buy at the end I would have purchased it. Like the bamboo sushi rolling mat
Brillant cooking class with Yummy. I learned so much about sushi and Japanese cooking in general! It was so much fun. Even if you never cook, everything is tailored to your needs and feels easy. I recommend this workshop 💯 %
Even if I don't feel ready to switch from takeaway to self-made sushi, now I understand all the steps involved. We really enjoyed it.
This is a MUST DO if you are travelling in Japan and will be staying in Tokyo. The ladies were so patient, knowledgeable and kind. Not to mention the class was so much fun and super delicious! The price you pay to take this class is less than what you would spend on a sushi night in the US! Such a great value!
Really enjoyed getting an Insight to the ingredients used and how they are sourced. It was a fun and interactive class.
So yummy and informative. I will be taking these skills home. And the amount of food we made, I could barely finish my plate!
Our sushi making class at Cooking Sun was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan! Miki was an incredible teacher and clearly explained all the steps to making a beautiful meal with different types of sushi, miso soup and homemade dashi. The studio was clean, bright and easy to find. We were lucky to have taken the class!
Very nice experience, professional teachers. We prepared a very good hand-made sushi. Great location and nice environment
Learned a lot. Staff was very nice. Clean kitchen. Sushi ingredients were very good. Would refer others to this sushi class. Well worth the time and money.
We enjoyed learning about sushi rice making and dashi making from scratch. The instructors were kind, efficient and friendly, They had CB lots of great information to share.
Wonderful course with good teachers who also told a lot about the history behind sushi and Japanese cooking. You get to learn how to cook everything from scratch and really recommend it to anyone who loves sushi.
We had a great time making a variety of sushi dishes. There were 9 people in the class and 2 hosts which was the perfect size.
Yuko, Aya, and Yuki were the best, and made this event very fun and informative. We made a delicious dinner consisting of seven different types of sushi (Miso soup, Tamagoyaki, Inari Age, Hosomaki, California Roll, Ebi Nigiri, Tamago Sushi, and 4-Piece Nigiri). I would definitely recommend adding this to your list of things to do in Tokyo.
Nice instructors, learned a lot, enjoyed the time there a lot, delishious sushi, vegeratian suhi possible
When in Japan, what is a better experience to do than learn how to make sushi? This was a well worth 3 hour investment. Our teachers were patient, knowledgeable and passionate to teach. Absolutely enjoyed!
Had an absolute amazing time. I can’t believe I was able to make such great looking sushi! Highly recommend
This was such a well-organized experience - I cannot recommend this highly enough! It is a very intimate setting with very small groups, so you will not feel like you're lost in a big crowd. You get to be very involved. And the organization and the efficiency with which the whole session was run was absolutely top tier! And the food itself turns out so good!
