Lots of delicious foods to try that are the classic Greek options so you can learn about them as well as experience before you have to go into a restaurant. Wonderful guide to make the tour even more fun!
Tour was not rushed and lasted 31/2 - 4 hours. Our guide, Dana, was awesome. Our group had about 20 people. We got a gift bag with olives, bread ring, and local tea at the beginning.
This was our second tour with Ammon Express and it was just as well organised as the first. Our guide, Dina, was very friendly, professional and full of interesting information. We visited a wide variety of places and all of us were very full by the end of the tour. The food was delicious!
This food tour is well worth the cost. It may not be quite as comprehensive as some of the ones in other major cities but we had a wonderful time and still ended up so full from all of the treats. We did this tour when we got off the cruise ship in Thessaloniki and it was a perfect balance of history and info about the city and getting to try local treats.
Andria, our tour guide was excellent. Well balanced between history information and local/regional food info. We were able to taste good Greek coffee, pastries and some fruits including olives. We appreciate the time and help with shopping. Thank you for your gifts.
Guide, Konstantina, provided excellent context around the history of the Thessaloniki food journey. We tasted many traditional dishes, snacks and coffee and saw much of the beautiful city. Highly recommend!
Dina was very sweet. She was very knowledgeable of the city. I wish there was more food and less sitting though.
Very knowledgeable and friendly guide (Dina) who talked on mamy topics from Ancient Greek history to food to current affairs. Really lovely way to spend a few hours and a recommended experience fir anyone who likes food.
Our guide was a very marvelous and knowledgeable young lady. She showed us the vibrant markets of Thessaloniki with all the fresh produce, and beautifully explained the history of the markets and the city. A very warm and highly recommended tour!
I really enjoyed my walking tour. The guide was nice and the group was a good fit. It gave me a good expression of the city and what to explore next.
Constantina was an excellent guide. She made it feel as if we were hanging out with a friend instead of being on a tour. She brought us to a quaint coffee shop and we visited two markets. The samples we tried were delicious. We had a really nice time on this tour.
Very basic… can’t really call it a food tour. 3 stops including a coffee stop. There is so much more to Greek food the coffee and Turkish delight store
This is a very compkete experience with our guide,Evangelina who was very knowledgeable and friendly
Fun tour of all the markets and places to buy Greek products. Stopped for coffee and pastries. Other tasting of olives, fruits, Greek spreads and bread. Great guide who told us about the local places to eat and hear music. Highly recommend!
Fantastic customer service. We went on the dion and mount olympus tour and unfortunately the weather was terrible so we missed a couple of stops. To compensate the team gave us some money back and a free food tour the next day. The replies were fast and we were really impressed with how they took care of us. Guides were great both days.
Our guide Adria was very friendly and well informed. We did a walk in the streets around the main square, through markets, sampling local products along the way. It was good to learn more about local specialties and discover places we probably would not have found.
Our family had an exceptional experience with Demetris as our driver and tour guide in Thessaloniki. From start to finish, he provided a seamless, informative, and enjoyable day exploring Pella and Vergina—two remarkable sites connected to Alexander the Great and his father, Philip II. Demetris picked us up promptly and drove safely and comfortably throughout the entire journey. When I made an error with the pickup address, he handled the situation with patience and professionalism, ensuring everything stayed on schedule. He even brought an extra booster seat for our six-year-old on short notice, which demonstrated his thoughtfulness and commitment to our comfort and safety. His guidance at the archaeological sites and museums was invaluable. He provided helpful tips on navigating exhibits efficiently and pointed out fascinating landmarks along the way, enriching our understanding of Greek history and culture. As a Thessaloniki native whose family has lived there for generations, he shared insightful stories and historical context that added depth to the experience. Demetris also proved to be a wealth of knowledge about local cuisine, drawing on his background as a former restaurateur. He offered excellent recommendations and ensured we enjoyed a delightful snack break by reserving a table and helping us avoid long lines. What stood out most was his kindness toward our daughter. He made her feel included throughout the day, engaging her with warmth and patience that made the experience memorable for our entire family. Demetris consistently looked out for our best interests and went above and beyond to ensure we had an enriching and stress-free tour. We highly recommend him to anyone visiting Thessaloniki and looking for a knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely caring guide.
Tour was very interesting and informative. Guide was very knowledgeable. Tastings were plenty and we also heard other traditions and history. Three hours went very fast. Thank you.
This is a must do!! We learned so much about the history and culture of Thessaloniki and the food was absolutely incredible. We couldn’t eat it all! We are incredibly blessed to have Helen as a tour guide. She is fantastic!
Absolutely fabulous tour. Helena was knowledgeable and the food very enjoyable. I very much enjoyed learning about the history od Thessaloniki.
A lot of stops and really nice tastings in authentic local places. The guide was really nice attentive and informative. For us the starting hour was a bit too early.. wish it was further away from breakfast so we could enjoy more of the food. So avoid breakfast that day..
We originally booked the Mt. Olympus and Dion trip and went up the mountain but the weather was very bad due to the storm so our Guide (Yllanis) had to cancel the rest of the trip. He was very kind and considerate to offer another free tour in the next days. Because of this we had to change plans and took the food tasting tour with Eleni. We have enjoyed the experience a lot. Both guides were very accommodating and has shared a lot of interesting facts about the history and culture of Thessaloniki. We are very happy with the service, we will definitely book again with this company if given the chance
This was a great way to get introduced to the city and the markets. We had a wonderful and very pleasant guide.
Helen was an amazing and friendly guide with lots of great information and historical context! Thanks!
Our guide Helen was amazing. She gave us the perfect mix of interesting history and culture alongside the descriptions of local food. It was a great way to tour the city with a local. I don't even love food but I loved this tour! I definitely recommend!
We enjoyed our food tour with Helen. She was knowledgeable and friendly! It was fun to walk around the markets and learn more about the history of food culture in Thessaloniki. There were a lot of sweets on the tour and we felt that there wasn't enough of a savory element. The description of the tour said we would get to try traditional pies, but sadly we did not. We have been on many food tours and we usually leave stuffed, but unfortunately after this tour we were still quite hungry as we had not eaten breakfast or lunch (only small snacks). We got to leave with some leftovers from the tour (grapes and olives and sweets) which was nice.
It was a very interesting and pleasant tour, the guide was a lovely lady who made sure I was at ease all the while. The food is exceptional and the market atmosphere rather unique.
Guide was great. She knew the area, the food and the relationship between them. Always helpful. Made for a great experience
The tour took just over 2 hours. it was a small group. There is a bit of walking but not excessive. The guide was friendly and informative and we were able to taste a mixture of local foods and beverages without being too much. Kinda like a Greek degustation menu.
This was the best way to see where the locals go and to taste what their eat! Loved the coffee house and learned that Turkish people spend 2 hrs at coffee!! I loved just sitting and chatting instead of taking my coffee out! Plus we found some great shopping areas to go to after the tour. The travel company were able to take us despite not having a guide. They called one in and we were ready to go!! The ship had to switch itineraries because of weather and it turned out to be a perfect day!!! Our guide was a sweetheart and I would recommend this to anyone who hasn’t done a walking tour!! Got some good tastings and great baragains!
Our guide was lovely and came in just for us when our amended date didn’t arrive to the tour operator. She gave us first class service and showed us thing we never would have seen. Loved the ‘real’ city life. Loved the markets and the taste testing. Just perfect. The travel company bent over backwards to accommodate us and they did.
Our guide Konstantina was great! Super knowledgable and friendly, and the group was nice too! Tasted some really great foods and drinks and walked through all the old markets. History and food, who could ask for more?
Excellent guide . We enjoyed more than 3 hours with the experience of Adria, she was awesome and took the time to answer all the questions
Excellent tour! Eleni was an amazing guide that was very knowledgeable about the history of Thessaloniki. The tour provided many different tastes from local vendors and markets all which were delicious. We really enjoyed our time and learned a lot. We would definitely recommend!
Elena was a super guide. Well informed on both the food and history of Thessaloniki. Plenty of both savory and sweet food to enjoy so arrive hungry!
A great day with a lovely well versed and well educated guide - a delight from start to finish .this is a must do for an enjoyable and fascinating experience
What a great value for the price. I learned so much about the city, it's people, and the markets. I left feeling very full, and would highly recommend it. Adriana was a great guide and very knowledgeable.
A nice experience, with a sweet guide Eleni. We visited the local markets and had a relaxing walk around the city, trying some local products.
Our family of 10 loved the Thessaloniki: Walking Open Market Food Tour and Tasting. Helen, our guide, provided great insight into the culture and history of the city as we walked through several traditional markets tasting olives, sweets, savory meat and cheese pies, coffee and other traditional treats. Our small group of 12 allowed us see and hear more than if we had chosen to participate in a shore excursion offerd by the cruise line. We highly recommend this tour to experience Thessaloniki in just a few hours.
It was both informative and delicious, there was a lot more food than we could eat. It was done at a gentle pace as it was a hot day and there were place to stop and rest. I really liked the bakery and the markets.
This was amazing. Our guide, Dina was fabulous and we all enjoyed the food, time, coffee and chat. A MUST experience, especially on 1st day of visit to get the Thessaloniki vibe and see the markets.
Make sure your Cruise ship will enter the port in time for your tour. We were told we could get a refund but we did not. Maybe the tour would've been great but we didn't get a chance to experience.
Really great tour with just the right amount of food and time at each location. Great variety. Our guide, Adria, was sooooo lovely, we wish her well. Excellent recommendation to a local restaurant where we ended up eating 2 nights in a row as we loved the place so much, thank you!
Rita was a lovely, knowlegeable & experienced guide. She showed up with a bag of goodies (bread roll, olives, tea, sweets) for my husband and myself, which we took home with us. She guided us around the markets, pointing out foods of interest, local restaurants and explaining how foods are used and prepared. At our coffee break, she gave us different types of pastries and cakes to try, which she had brought with her. However, other than these and some Turkish delight, we ate surprisingly little during the tour itself. It was the first food tour I‘ve taken where I‘ve finished the tour hungry. My suggestion to the tour operator would be to sample more foods during the tour, stopping for small plates of food at different locations instead of being gifted food to take home.
Very informative and fun walking tour through open market and other areas. Great food sampling and intro to some foods we have never had even though we live in Greece.
Konstantina was very very friendly. She took us to some traditional, cute spots around the city to eat. She was also very knowledgeable on her history about Thessaloniki and Greece. We were very impressed by her historical knowledge. Pro tip: do NOT eat breakfast prior to this tour. You will eat A LOT.
This was a great way to be introduced to the culture and city. Great history lesson as well as delicious food
Such A great experience with our guide and native Margarita! She gave a great overview of history and Greek culture and the cuisine - oh my!! Every single stop was informative and delicious! We could not have asked for a better guide or tour and it was well worth the money and time. Margarita was friendly, personable, and went above and beyond!
Constantine (Megas) was an excellent guide. Gave some interesting information and shared the tastes of her home town. Don't eat too much in the morning before you take this tour, there's plenty to eat on this tour. This is a nice relaxed stroll around the markets so most people would manage it easily. Amazing that there are so many markets so close together. Well worth the time spent.
