We did a two-hour walking tour (happily extended to 2 1/2 hours) of the main part of town with a great local facilitator. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. Our guide was very friendly, flexible, and knowledgeable. He really enhanced our experience in Thessaloniki. After the tour he provided us with other activities we could do on our own and local eating recommendations. I would highly recommend the tour.

We embarked on our walking tour with Fenia under dark and moody rain clouds. She was a brilliant guide leading us through the generations and civilisations who have built and lived in Thessaloniki. We saw all the main historical sites and we were provided with a host of new visit locations and restaurants for the rest of our stay. Yes we finished wet from the rain but happy. Thank you Fenia.
Under heavy rain clouded we set out for a very knowledgeable, informative and fun walking tour. We saw the main historical locations and gained insights of the centuries of Thessalonians who inhabited this vibrant city. Yes we finished wet but happy and with a handful of personal recommendations for other locations to visit over our remaining stay.
Nice tour hitting the highlights of the city.
A relaxed casual walk of Thessaloniki by a local friendly guide.
Excellent tour with Tanassis- very interesting and interesting.
We had a very informative tour with Thanasis. We would recommend him to anyone taking a walking tour of Thessaloniki.
Very knowledgeable and engaged guide!
We booked this tour twice and on both occasions the tour was cancelled. The second time, we contacted the operator and it was only after the tour should have begun that we received a message that it had been cancelled.
Tour guide did not show up. Two other group members were at the fountain too. We tried to call and message, no response. It appears a refund is on the way but no communication or explanation.
Unfortunately our walking tour was subject to a very late, same day cancellation so we did the online Scavenger Hunt self-guided tour instead, which for €2 was an excellent alternative and took in all of the main sites that we had hoped to see on this cancelled trip.
We really enjoyed walking through beautiful Thessaloniki with Giorgos! He is a great guide and person! He gave us all the important historical and cultural facts about the city but he also managed to convey his love for it. We had interesting, very open talks and a wonderful time with him! See you soon
We had Fenia as a tour guide - she was great! She walked us around to all of the highlights in Thessaloniki and explained all the history. She answered all of our questions and overall made the tour more enjoyable! There are so many things to see in Thessaloniki, and this was a great way to get a quick taste of the major things! Fenia also gave us great recommendations for food and things to visit once our tour was over. I would love to take another tour with her if we are back one day!
This was a very good tour and gave us a good view of Thessaloniki. Fenia was a great guide with good English.
My scheduled tour of Thessaloniki turned into a solo one as the other tourist didn’t show up, and thus I had Thanasis all to myself! It turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip to Greece. The city is full of history, culture, and beautiful architecture, and having Thanasis as my guide made the experience truly exceptional. Thanasis was knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the city. He took me to all the major sites and brought Thessaloniki's rich history to life with fascinating stories and insights. We started off from the iconic White Tower of Thessaloniki and the bustling waterfront, to the Monument of Alexander The Great, the historic Rotunda, Arch of Galerius, and the charming streets of the Old Town, Holy Cathedral Church of Hagia Sophia, Aristotelous Square, Modiano Market, Ladadika District, and finally Valaoritou. Every stop was informative and engaging. As a solo traveller, I particularly appreciated how welcoming and attentive Thanasis was. He tailored the tour to my interests, answered all my questions, and shared local recommendations that helped me make the most of my time in the city. His enthusiasm for Thessaloniki was infectious and gave me a much deeper appreciation of its unique blend of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman influences. The pace of the tour was perfect, allowing plenty of time to admire the sights, take photos, and soak up the atmosphere. Thanks to Thanasis, I felt I experienced not just the landmarks but also the character and spirit of Thessaloniki. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city. If you're lucky enough to have Thanasis as your guide, you're in for an informative, enjoyable, and unforgettable experience. Thank you, Thanasis, for a wonderful day exploring Thessaloniki! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great tour, easy paced with all the information about city, it's history and culture. Great tips for restaurants and bars!
I thought it was a very nice experience and the guide was really knowledgeable however in Greece since it’s not a very diverse community of people from other countries, not everyone speaks perfect English so there were times where our guide struggled a bit to get the words out that she was trying to say, but overall, she did a really good job and I would recommend this tour to people.
The guide was very helpful and he gave a lot of Information about the city . He was also very friendly and ready to answer all questions .
The guide left personal reasons shortly after the tour started and could not be completed. The guide obviously was distracted by a personal problem and could not be very helpful.
After booking the 10.00 a.m tour, we were informed that the 10.00 a.m guide was not available and offered to go on the 3.00 pm tour instead. The 3.00 p.m guide mostly covered local food and shopping and only superficially the local history and culture that was our main interest. Lacking in interesting details and historic facts, otherwise a nice walk.
Esmeralda was a fantastic guide as we made our way around Thessaloniki. We were introduced to a variety of sites and experiences.
We booked the tour months in advance. The tour operator canceled the tour at 9 pm the evening before a 10:00 am tour.
Awesome tour, great guide! 10:10.
The tour guide did not show up and didn’t let anyone know. What kind of person does that. I hope there was a good excuse.
Great guide. An informal walking tour round downtown Thessaloniki.
Fenia was very lovely. We enjoyed the time a lot. She also recommended some spots we can also visiting. A very very good tour with the best guide we could imagine!
Excellent experience. Giorgos is not only a very educational resource who covers Thesaloniki's essentials very well, but also a fun-to-be-with guy who makes the tour a very pleasant social interaction. When in Thesaloniki don't miss this opportunity with him, it's worth every minute of it.
Our guide was very informative. Got us in to the city for discoveries.
Our walking tour was really informative and fun. Our guide was extremely kind and he taught us about the history of Thessaloniki, walked us through the landmarks and shared stories with us. He also shared his favourite spots in the city with us. He was very helpful and guided us to plan our activities for the following days according to our interests, too. It was a pleasure to meet him and we are very thankful for our tour together.
Very good experience! Our guide is very knowledgeable and passionate about this amazing city. Highly recommended!
Fenia was great. She was fun and informative. However, the people who support her, who incorrectly described the starting point of the tour, and who said that it would end at the starting point, we're inaccurate in both cases. These incompetents said that the tour would start at the White Tower. No mention of WHERE around the White Tower (hint: the entrance was never mentioned). These incompetents also incorrectly stated that the tour would end where it started, but it actually ended a mile or more west of the starting point. Too bad the incompetents didn't deliver to the standards we'd expect from Viator. Fenia did, but the rest of you failed. Fenia gets 5 Stars. The rest of you get no stars.
Very informative and enjoyable tour. Fenia was friendly, knowledgeable, and showed us both famous sights and hidden corners of Thessaloniki.🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢
Fenia’s passion for the city really showed. A great mix of main sights and hidden gems.
Highly recommended Fenia did an excellent job explaining the history and culture of the city. The pace was comfortable and the stories were engaging.
Guided tour let us in on the history and culture of the city. We had a great time. Our guide even recommended spots for lunch!
Four of us were excited to have this Thessaloniki Walking tour and it was a beautiful day to do it, but the guide did NOT show up! We were at the front of the white tower @ 1950 for our 18:00 tour time. Nobody who looked like a guide was there. I started calling/texting the tour company but no answer. The rest of our group went around the tower to see if someone looking like a guide was there. We went inside the tower and asked but they did not know either. There was NOT any prior communication as to how the guide would look like either. Fortunately, Trip Advisor refunded us the full amount but we lost precious time. I would advise anyone taking this tour to contact the tour company ahead of time and/or ask TA to contact the company for you to ensure your time does not get wasted.
I got the impression that the guide was filling in last minute. She was late arriving and was dressed in black not white as we had been told. There were only 6 of us but she walked very fast, mainly talking to the young man in the group. She read the main facts from a sheet without extra anecdotes.
Our guide was very good in explaining the history of all the monuments that we visited in Thessaloniki. She also suggested good places to shop and eat Greek food
We walked the half hour distance from the cruise ship to their starting point. After a half hour waiting, we gave up and left. We booked this excursion 6 months in advance. We later found out they canceled on us the day before the walk. No call to let us know, only an email we didn’t receive on the cruise ship. Since there were no taxis available at the dock, this would not be recommended even if everything else went perfectly.
Good overview of major sites in Thessaloniki. Gave us a general sense of the city. Guide had recommendations for places to visit on our own. Also restaurant recommendations.
Very informative and made the tour interesting , nice pace not rushed. The guide had Very good English and lovely personality.
Eva was in touch before the trip to finalise details. She met us at the agreed place at the right time. Eva was passionate and well informed about all details of the tour. She made sure the travellers were able to hear her, and took care with where she stood to minimise rain (and sun). A well planned itinerary, delivered with confidence and care,
Eva was an excellent guide. We learned much about Thessaloniki in her well paced very enjoyable tour. Lesley June HYSLOP STRATTON
Thessaloniki is a city shaped by centuries of history, from Ancient Greece and Rome to Byzantium and beyond. Home to great figures and layered cultures, it is a privilege to explore it
Fantastic tour around the city center! Such an amazing historic city and the guide gave us the best experience we could have asked for
This is a very walkable city with oodles of history and character. I found this tour to be a good orientation to a delightful city.
Guided Walking Tour in Thessaloniki Thessaloniki Guide stood us up. 1013671156 We 4 people were at the meeting place (front door of White Tower) at 10 AM meeting time. The entrance is small, just an ordinary door. There was no guide. There was no one holding a sign with their name or my name. No one asked us if we were there to meet a guide. There was no one standing at the main entrance. While there, I received 2 e mails from TripAdvisor stating that the guide was at the door waiting. The "response" button on the e mails from Trip Advisor did nothing. My email back to TripAdvisor was returned as undeliverable. We were not given a phone number for the guide. We 4 split up and began asking people near and far if they were our guide. After 30 or 40 minutes we gave up, bought tickets to see the White Tower, and hired a cab driver to take us to the other sites on our original tour.
The time was changed the night before, which was ok, but did rearrange our day some. The tour guide was very nice, but read from a paper and it seemed like was maybe winging it. It was ok but we were a little disappointed with the walking tour. Beautiful city and lovely people!
You get to see many of the sights of Thessaloniki, which is good. A good amount of walking is part of the deal, which is a plus if you like walking and a minus if you don’t or can’t. The Akropolis is too far away and not part of the tour. You don’t get to see anything from the inside, everything is just passed by. The tour is OK, reading up beforehand might do as well.
We had a wonderful time with Giorgios! The tour hit the outside all the major historical sites and also included interesting information about culture and food! You don't go inside them all, but it gave us insight on which ones to revisit. We loved it!
