Small van that could get thru all streets! Stopped at multiple places in the entire city. Being a small group of two, the guide gave us as much time as we wanted at each stop! Excellent tour and guide!

Itinerary
The Trigonion Tower is also known as Thessaloniki's balcony. It provides an excellent view of the city's acropolis. In addition, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the old city and the Gulf of Thermaikos. On clear days, visitors can see Mount Olympus 150 kilometers away. Trigoniou Tower, Thessaloniki.
During a full-day tour of Thessaloniki, a stop at Moni Vlatadon (Vlatadon Monastery) is one of the most memorable moments. Tucked into the quiet Upper Town, the 14th-century Byzantine monastery sits on a hillside just inside the old city walls and is believed to mark the exact spot where Saint Paul preached to the Thessalonians in 51 AD. A simple stone inside the small church is traditionally said to be where the apostle stood. You arrive after a short drive from the city centre, and the reward is immediate: sweeping panoramic views over the rooftops, the Thermaic Gulf, and – on clear days – all the way to Mount Olympus. The main church, dedicated to the Transfiguration, is beautifully decorated with well-preserved frescoes, and the whole place feels calm and lived-in because it is still an active monastery belonging to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Modest dress is required (shoulders and knees covered).
Enter the Saint Demetrius church , one of the oldest and most important byzantine churches in Thessaloniki, admire the frescos and go down at the catacombs to see a part of the city's history. On Tuesdays the crypt is closed and we can only visit the church
During a full-day tour of Thessaloniki, a stop at the Roman Forum (also known as the Ancient Agora) is a fascinating step back into the city’s Roman era. Right in the heart of the modern centre, at the junction of Olympou and Filippou streets, this large open-air archaeological site was once the bustling commercial, political and social hub of Roman Thessaloniki, with its main buildings constructed in the 2nd century AD.
Enter the Venizelou subway station museum and marvel at the Via Egnatia remains that show the glorious Roman times of Thessaloniki.
A unique building of its kind, the sole circular Christian church in the world, with stunning mosaics and special history of a building which turned from a roman temple, to a christian church, to a mosque and back to a church. On Tuesdays the museum is closed so we get to see only the outside .
Marvel at the remains of the famous Galerius Arch through which passed Via Egnatia, the ancient 'highway' that connected Rome with Costantinople.
You will enter the most famous landmark of Thessaloniki which is a museum and enjoy its fantastic view on the top.
The father of Alexander the Great stands firm on pedastal accross the White Tower, as if we see how proud he is of his son and the unbelievable things he accomplished.
After taking a look at the statue of Phillip the 2nd you will proceed to admire the eternal king of Macedonia, Alexander the Great on his proud horse Vuchefalas at the most photographed spot of Thessaloniki.

Yannis did a wonderful job of driving us around to all the must-see things in town, including a couple not on the list. His knowledge of the history and geography was excellent. It was raining this day and he minimized our exposure. He also helped with restaurant recommendations.
We had a great time with Yannis and he accommodated us as over-tired, exhausted 1st day travelers! His love of his city and Greece in total is evident an he made sure we saw the attractions up close and personally! He also provided great suggestions for restaurants and other locations! We enjoyed him so much we booked another private tour with him in place of another group tour! Bravo Yannis!
Yannis was an excellent tour guide. He has passion for his hometown of Thessaloniki, and explained the transitions the town went through in its long history, from Its Macedonian roots to its Christian era and Ottoman control. He was able to answer many questions, and brought us to places of interest, including The Rotunda, White Tower, the Church of Demetrios (definitely worth seeing), the coastline with state of Alexander the Great, Artistotle and St Paul's connection to Thessaloniki, as well as the Arch of Galerius. We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. One note: make sure you know where pick-up is. The app had us walking around the port instead of sending us directly to the pick-up location. Luckily, Yannis was quick to answer our phone call and came to pick us up when we got lost.
i had a great day with yannis! he was so patient when it looked like i was given the wrong directions to meet up with him. the website directed my away from the port, which was a huge mistake. luckily, he texted me to come back and he was waiting. i had a wonderful and memorable day in thessoloniki.
This tour really set the foundations for our stay in the city. Yannis was super friendly and informative and gave us great insight into the history of the city. Well worth the money.
Yannis was excellent! Very knowledgeable and accommodating! I would highly recommend!!! A beautiful city!
Great experience. Giannis picked us up from our hotel, provided waters and drove us around the city and gave us a 5 hour tour in which we experienced the full city. All the top places a traveler needs to see while in Thessaloniki. Highly recommend.
This was a great tour. We had the best guide Yannis. He was amazing, full of knowledge and gave us great insight. We really really enjoyed the tour. Highly recommend.
Our driver and tour guide, Yannis, picked us up right on time from our hotel, the Electra Palace, in downtown Thessaloniki. Yannis is a life long resident of the city and he speaks perfect English. His enthusiasm for the city’s history was clear throughout the tour. His new Citroen van was cool and comfortable as we ventured from one amazing site to another. With a friendly and engaging personality, Yannis made it easy and fun for us to learn so much as we visited each of the main historical sites covering thousands of years of history. We finished the day with a very special treat. Yannis knows where to find the best bougatsa in the city. It was an incredible treat warm from the oven. Thank you Yannis for an amazing and fun tour of your city!
Yannis was wonderful! I really can't say enough. He adjusted the tour to be at our pace as my husband was struggling with a bad leg. He worked to get us close to things and make it easier for him. He gave us so much information and history without overwhelming us and making it interesting and fun. He told us about greek life, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. He even went out of us way and after I had expressed in an interest, got me a Bougatsa to try! I would highly recommend Yannis. He is easy to understand, his driving is wonderful, the car is comfortable and he will make your time in Thessaloniki unforgettable!
Relaxed chance to see all the sights away from the crowds and delays on bus tours. Very informative tour guide! Transportertours was great!
We arranged a tour of the many local highlights of Thessaloniki with Yannis when our cruise ship docked there for the day. Yannis met us as arranged at the ship and for the next 5 hours he was a superb local guide. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and our experience
Loved it and learned so much about Thessaloniki. A comfortable car and a relaxed itinerary se we could see everything in the city.
Yannis was an excellent private driver-guide for my full-day tour of Thessaloniki. He picked me up on time in a comfortable car and showed me all the key landmarks: White Tower, Rotunda, Arch of Galerius, Aristotelous Square, Byzantine walls, stunning churches, and some hidden gems. His deep knowledge of the city’s history—from Roman to modern times—was fascinating, delivered in perfect English with great stories and humor. He tailored the pace to me, suggested perfect photo spots, and navigated traffic effortlessly, making the day relaxed and enjoyable. Highly recommend Yannis for anyone wanting a personalized, comprehensive introduction to Thessaloniki. Fantastic experience—5 stars! Thank you, Yannis!
We are so delighted that Yannis took all his efforts to meet our needs and visited all sites we are interested in. Very professional and considerate to tailor customs specifics! Highly recommend.
Being a local I had never been on a guided tour before. However, I knew that I hadn't visited some important sites of my city and as for the ones that I had, I just had a rather vague idea of their history as I had visited them when I was a schoolchild. This was the reason why I decided to look for a guided tour and I have to say that the whole experience exceeded my expectations! Giannis made sure that by the end of the tour I had formed a thorough understanding of the history of the city and instead of just providing me with information about each sight he actually helped me realize how some sights are even interrelated and interconnected in the continuum of the history of Thessaloniki. I absolutely loved the tour. Giannis is really good at capturing your attention and keeping it throughout the tour and, being a teacher, I have to say that this is a really difficult thing! I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour both to locals who want to become more familiar with their city's history and of course to tourists and travelers who want to go off the beaten track and seek for meaningful experiences.
Feeling like a local! I really enjoyed my guidance to the most important sights in Thessaloniki with someone who knew how to make this tour a memorable experience! John is a very pleasant guide and gave me all the necessary information about the city and the places we visited.I will be definitely booking another tour with him to explore more of Greece!
