We had a marvelous day with Yannis! He has a wealth of knowledge about the area. We toured two of the five monasteries (though he was not allowed to go in with us as he is not licensed to guide here. Somewhat strange as we paid an extra $300 for a guided tour.) The monasteries are beautiful inside and out. The settings, high on the rocks, is amazing. Yannis then took us to a great restaurant for local food. We had a fantastic day!

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and is a must-see for anyone visiting. Every view was more beautiful than the last, making the experience unforgettable. Our tour guide, Yanis, was fantastic. You could truly see his passion for the site in the way he shared its history and stories. His enthusiasm made the experience even more meaningful. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to experience incredible views and learn from a guide who genuinely loves what he does.
Awesome experience! Well worth the cost. After the tour our driver Yanni took us to a wonderful authentic Greek restaurant, delicious food. Did pit stop breaks. Created memories and experienced so much.
The driver from Lion Transfers contacted me 30 minutes prior to pickup to let me know when he was 5 minutes out. Konstantinos arrived on time and made sure I was comfortable before we set out for the day. We stopped about half way to Meteora for a water and bathroom break and proceeded on. As I have a significant fear of heights we discussed my limitations along the way and he set a plan in place to reduce my anxiety and eliminate any instances that would paralyze me. As we navigated the road in Meteora, Konstantinos stopped to allow me to take photos of these most magnificent views. We then stopped and visited the largest, highest monastery without issue. We continued to explore the route to all the monasteries and turnoff points for photo ops and then headed into Kalambaka for an excellent lunch at Elias' Garden Taverna. The food was incredible as were the restaurant staff and atmosphere. Afterward, we had a smooth, safe and enjoyable return to Thessaloniki. Overall it was a 5 star day!!!
Our full-day excursion to Meteora was nothing short of magical, and so much of that was thanks to our incredible guide, Yianni. From the moment he picked us up from our hotel, Yianni was warm, professional, and effortlessly accommodating to our multigenerational group. He made everyone feel comfortable and cared for, no matter the age or pace. Not only was he an exceptionally safe and skilled driver, but his knowledge and storytelling along the journey truly brought Greece to life. He shared fascinating history, local insights, and thoughtful commentary throughout the day, making the drive just as memorable as the destination itself. And Meteora… absolutely breathtaking. There is something deeply special and almost otherworldly about seeing those monasteries suspended among the cliffs — it felt truly magical and is an experience we’ll never forget. To top it all off, on our return journey Yianni recommended a fabulous traditional Greek taverna for a late lunch, which ended up being the perfect ending to an unforgettable day. We cannot recommend Yianni highly enough. If you’re lucky enough to have him as your guide, you’re in for a truly exceptional experience.
Yannis was a fantastic guide. This is not to be missed! The monasteries were incredible, the ride is but beautiful and Yannis has a deep knowledge of area!
George was knowledgeable and very attentive to out interest throughout the day. Took us to incredible viewing locations. Recommended a restaurant where we enjoyed one of the best meals of our vacation
Worth the drive for a day trip from Thessaloniki!!! Spectacular natural beauty. The private tour made everything very convenient. Our tour guide, Yannis, was knowledgeable and took us to great local places along the way for coffee and lunch.
Best excursion of our entire cruise. We were picked up at the port by Yanis, a pleasant and knowledgeable guide. It was nice to see the countryside along the drive, Yanis answered our many questions. There was a comfort stop at a lovely coffee shop along the way. The monasteries are a must see. Afterwards, we ate lunch at a local restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! It was a long day but definitely worth it. We would highly recommend Yanis.
Yannis was very professional and informative. Excellent driver and guide. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable day with him and would want him as a guide again.
The most beautiful, informative tour with George. George went above and beyond. He was knowledgeable and never made you feel rushed. This was my best tour for my 11 day cruise in Greece. Thankyou !
Yanni arrived to pick us up on time from the appt where we were staying. It’s about a 3 hr drive to Meteora. We stopped at “ Travel Stop at the Top” for a coffee break.Yanni has done this trip a number of times & is quite knowledgeable about Thessaloniki & surrounding area. Sights around Meteora are spectacular. Unfortunately we got to the monastery at the same time as several tour buses & ot was quite crowded in the monastery. This was more than made up for by the restaurant “ Elias Garden”where he took us to eat. Reasonably priced with great food. It’s a long day but well worth the trip.
Our day trip to Meteora with Yannis was truly spectacular! The drive is long, but so worth it! Yannis picked us up directly from the port and I voiced the concern many cruise passengers have — will we make it back in time before our cruise leaves? I shouldn’t have worried, Yannis had us back with plenty of time to spare! We really wanted to focus on seeing as many monasteries in Meteora as possible, and Yannis tailored our trip to allow just that, giving us plenty of information about the area along the way. He handled the winding, mountainous roads with ease and we were able to stop at three different gorgeous monasteries (which is a lot considering the hikes you take to get there — make sure you wear appropriate shoes!). We were also able to see the caves where the monks used to live as hermits. Yannis took several family photos of us at the best and most picturesque photo stops. Despite the time constraint set by our cruise ship, we never felt rushed, and Yannis’s relaxed and easy going nature helped make for a day we will forever appreciate and remember! We won’t hesitate to book another tour with him next time we are in Thessaloniki. Thank you, Yannis!
Our guide Yiannis was fantastic. He knew the history of everywhere we went through (modern and historic) but more importantly very practical and catered to our interests. We did a day trip to Meteora from Thessaloniki to see the monasteries. He took us to that the right places including monasteries , the caves below, a picture perfect cliff side view of multiple monasteries, a killer restaurant ( everything we ate and the staff were as good as it gets), and a cute roadside stop for a break, bathroom and snacks. It is one thing to get a killer guide, it is another to get a wonderful conversationalist in the car with you. You are spending the day with a stranger and it did not feel that way with Yiannis. We have booked private tours like this in quite a few countries and this was by far the best! Book Viator and request Yiannis with no hesitation.
Yanis, our driver and guide, was perfect. We wanted a private tour because we wanted to decide for ourselves where we wanted to go and how much time we wanted to spend at each spot. He was very accommodating. He also know a great rest. Stop for us and a delicious incredible place for lunch. Everybody knew him and we felt like special friends whoever have arrived. But more than that, he’s a great conversationalist… And we learned a lot about the politics and laws of Greece. Very lovely day. The time flew by.
We had a fantastic day with our brilliant driver Yannis. He's informative and a great guy to chat to. The monasteries are simply stunning and well worth the journey from Thessaloniki to see them.
Just fabulous. George our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, great at communication. He knew everything you would possibly need to know. We saw more than we thought we would plus a lovely late lunch at a small restaurant on the way home. We were all very very happy. Thank you George and the tour company. We were a group of 4 Australians. Great value for money too.
Had a great excursion with D Tours Transfer. Nilkki was wonderful and they were able to get us back to our ship on time to catch our ship back. Highly recommended! “Thank you “D Tours Transfer.”
A group of 8 of us took this day trip to Meteora. I can’t recommend it enough. Not only was the scenery and Monisteries beautiful, but George, our tour guide was wonderful. He told us about the history of the area and Greece. He was kind, funny and patient with the 6 of us crazy females 😀. The guys in our group were very glad they had other male companionship. If you take this tour, definitely ask for George - he won’t disappoint, I promise. If I could give more stars, I would. George - thank you for everything!
Our driver/guide, George, was excellent! His knowledge was exceptional and his courtesy and willingness to help us with any problems or concerns was greatly appreciated.
The experience was amazing, Yiannis was punctual, kind, friendly and gave us a lot of information about the place. He was not only a driver, he was a person showing us the best of the place. Meteora is a most-see place on Grece!
We had a wonderful trip to Meteora with our guide/driver George. Although the guide does not accompany you into the monasteries, George was very enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of Greece and the Meteora region and we felt we had all the information we needed. He was also great at pointing out good vantages to take photos from and restaurants for lunch. Would highly recommend!
We traveled on a day of drizzling Our guide yanos was an excellent driver and guide and meteora was breathtaking Yanos was very knowledgeable and accommodating
It was an unforgetable experience and totally worth it, it may seem like a long day but it's perfectly orgainzed and worth the ride. The guide was experiences, kind, really informative and even helped me to practice my greek. He speaks really good english and made the road light. He tooks us to a delicious traditional restaurant and unexpensive. Definitely one of the best experiences i've had regarding excursions.
Overall, this was a good tour. However, at the beginning we had trouble meeting our driver. After confirming a number of times via email with Dimitra (dispatcher), we were to meet our driver at 8am at our cruise port and let her know that we would be on a cruise and not have internet the day before; however, when at port got a message from our driver that he will meet us at 830am, he did not know that we had agreed for 8am with Dimitra. With a number of WhatsApp chats and a half an hour later, we got it together and met Yannis R. our driver in a comfortable van for the 7 of us. He was great to talk with and had lots of information to share about Greece and the area we drove through; he also ensured that we had opportunities to use clean bathrooms at the Travel Stop Restaurant with Sotiris. Although it was an overcast day due to the Sahara dust, Yannis R. ensured that we had great opportunities to take pictures of Meterorea Monastery. Yannis R is a great driver and ensured our 2 families enjoyed ourselves. We explored the Skites area and met with a local guide named, Niki. She was a wealth of information but we had to have an abbreviated version of the Varrulum Monastery. Since time was now tight we did not have an opportunity to see a second monastery, I think that the 1/2 hour delay would have made the difference in seeing the other monastery. We made it through the Thessonaliki traffic and got to our cruise port in time. Yannis R. made our excursion of Meterorea informative and memorable.
Yannis (I apologize if I got the spelling wrong) was a fantastic driver and we learned so much from him. He was a very good driver and we always felt safe even on some bendy roads. Meteora was phenomenal!!! We were on a cruise and timelines were easily met. Such a memorable day! Highly recommend!
Driver was great. John was his name. Vghcdrujnbcdft v go jnbbffbbgh. Fun. The. Chi koi. Drub bfhv gffj he kjdc buying cctv.
An absolutely spectacular experience in every possible way! Yannis was the driver for me and my partner, but he was so much more than that! With exceptional English he told us extensively about the history of the area and the Monasteries, but also about Thessaloniki, and other surrounding areas, so we felt fully immersed in the culture of the region! He is better than most official tour guides while ostensibly being a driver! He was also greatly entertaining and we laughed a lot, making the long drive zoom by (punctuated by stops at a lovely cafe on the way there and a meal in Kalabaka at the foot of the Monasteries before we left). I have mobility issues, so Yannis took us to one monastery that has no steps, then showed us the viewing points for seeing the others from good angles. He was extremely accommodating and thoughtful, and was very helpful and patient! The Monasteries themselves are just magical and this experience is well worth the long drive (especially since the vistas en route are also beautiful and often awe-inspiring, though much of it is flatland). They are so unique and the rock formations are so spectacular, there is little else like it! And we are so happy that we booked this particular tour. It was expensive to go private but it gave us a lot of flexibility which with my leg issues is a big deal! We would definitely do it again! Don't think twice, just book it!
Excellent driver Giannis from De Transfers. Long journey but pleasant. Be ready from 200+ steps ascent to each monastery.
We were delighted with the punctuality of the service, value for money, knowledge and experience of our guide Yiorgos. We took the drive to Meteora via the scenic route recommended by Yiorgos and we were able to see the magnificent landscape and agricultural aspects of the region including the Pindus mountains, the olive and peach groves and the fields full of sunflowers. On arrival at Meteora our driver took us to areas not witnessed by the majority of visitors which we found fascinating. The only downside was the number of visitors, mainly on coach trips, that made the monasteries slightly overcrowded but we visited during peak season. On return journey Thessaloniki we asked to visit Neraida and the lake of Polyfytou which we found utterly inspiring. The convenience and comfort of the private tour made our experience extremely enjoyable. Our transfers to and from the airport were equally comfortable and arrived as booked. We would not hesitate to recommend De Tours Transfers. Our very grateful thanks to Illias, Dimitra and Yiorgos for making this all possible.
Our driver Yiannis picked us up on time in the morning and provided us with interesting information about the area on the way to Meteora. He drove us to viewpoints and the monasteries, gave us as much time as we wanted and told us again and again about the monasteries and history. In the end he reserved a place for us in a traditional tavern, which was also excellent. If you are aware of the long journey time, the excursion is perfect all around and highly recommended! If you are in Thessaloniki, you should definitely take the time and go to Meteora, it is really very impressive and unique. And Yiannis did it perfectly all around.
We booked a private tour of the Meteora for a family of 7 adults. Janis the guide/chief was professional, friendly and attentive to all our questions and requests. The trip went quickly, on charming mountain trails with a ventilation stop.
