Very interesting. The history behind it and the fact it’s still operating is amazing. The artifacts on view were stunning.

From the approximately 32 potteries that were founded in the 17th Century, Royal Delft, established in 1653, is the only remaining Delftware factory left in Delft. It is a national heritage and a must-see when visiting Holland! Here, the renowned Royal Delftware is still entirely hand painted according to centuries-old tradition. In 1919 the company was awarded the prefix ‘Royal’ confi rming its special relationship with the Dutch Royal family. For generations the Dutch Royal family have been true admirers of Royal Delftware. Nowadays Royal Delft is not only a factory for Delft Blue and a knowledge institute for ceramics, but also a museum. When visiting Royal Delft you discover the complete history and the production process of Delft Blue and Royal Delft in an audiovisual presentation. You witness a painter at work and are introduced to the other two icons of Delft in the themed chambers: the dining room of Johannes Vermeer, the famous 17th century painter from Delft and the Royal Chambers containing the collection of Orange Ceramics that has been produced over the centuries for the Dutch Royal family. In the museum, you can admire the collection of antique and modern pieces of Delft Blue earthenware and in the factory you can witness the authentic production process. In the showroom a comprehensive collection of hand painted earthenware by Royal Delft and a collection of souvenirs is on show. Royal Delft offers workshops during which you can try your hand at painting Delft Blue. Overlooking the beautiful courtyard the Brasserie serves delicious coffee, tea, lunches and High Teas. Tours are available in various languages.

Visiting the Royal Delft Museum was a truly special experience for me. As someone with a background in painting and a deep love for blue ink and blue-and-white art, I felt especially connected to this place. The delicate details, traditional Delft Blue designs and the craftsmanship behind each piece were fascinating to see. What impressed me most was realizing how much patience, precision and artistic skill goes into creating these beautiful pieces. I also loved the combination of history, art and craftsmanship. The museum doesn’t simply display beautiful objects; it tells the story behind them and gives visitors a better understanding of the tradition and the people who keep this art alive. From a visitor-experience perspective, I found it very inspiring. It’s a place where art and Dutch cultural heritage come together in a very tangible way. For me, surrounded by all those beautiful shades of blue, it was more than just a museum visit — it felt like stepping into a world I naturally feel drawn to. 💙🎨 Definitely a must-visit for anyone who loves art, craftsmanship, Dutch heritage and, of course, Delft Blue.
We were visiting The Netherlands to see old friends and decided on the Saturday to venture into Delft. It seemed an obvious choice to pay for tickets into the museum. I used an audio guide whilst other members of our party were happy to wander around reading the information boards which were in Dutch and English. The museum gives you a very good insight into how the Delft pottery came to be and traces its history across the ages. There are some really lovely examples of the porcelain to view along with examples of tile work.
It was a a great visit. We were five people and everybody found their interest point, Some the art, some the craftsmanship, some the industry and some the history. this factory museum shows off all aspects of the famous delft ceramics. It is a one and a half hour visit. We did not take a tour (because there wasn't one on the day we were there) but it is very self explanatory. The price is like any museum but there is free parking. Don't miss the inner courtyard.
Small museum and then took guided factory tour which was ok. 6 Euro shuttle back to station via city centre was the highlight.
This was interesting and I’m glad that I went, but it wasn’t necessarily a highlight of my trip. The garden bistro was charming. The museum itself is very small. I do wish that participating in classes was more accessible for day of purchase. I was sad to miss that option.
Total Delft is a procelain manufacturer located in the surroundings of Delft, a town in South Holland Region, in the Netherlands. We came here to visit this place and we could learn about the history of this manufacturing site and its relation with the Netherlands Monarchy. Really, very interesting explanations. Also, we could see a lot of porcelain objects, especially tableware. And you can go to the manufacturing site and see the real place (not only a museum). At the end of the museum, there is a shop, where you can buy a lot of porcelain objects. Very nice.
Wonderful experience looking how this handmade articrafts are made, and learning about the history of the place.
It’s a decent way out of town but worth it. Incredible history and artistry. Would like to see more goings on in the factory
Interesting but disappointed that we couldn’t see more of the artists working.
Too expensive for what you see, and is kind of disorganized.
It is very expensive to buy a piece of pottery here. It is clean. There was only one worker when we were there on Saturday in the factory when we were there so we did not see any pottery being made other than someone painting on a piece/
It was extremely interesting to discover the origin of blue ceramics. How it has arrived in the country, how people have been trained to master the art, the evolution through the time.. another thing that was interesting was the urban part and a new part of the exhibit I also liked the fact I could discover it in both English and French (I’ve used the audio guide) Plus, we had the opportunity to watch the craftsman working, as we were walking through the museum /factory . I really enjoyed my visit over there and the kindness of the staff.
Wonderful audio tour of Royal Delft. Commentary brief and concise. Great presentation, history and process. Even get to see artist painting Royal Delft ware.
It was so cool! So many different pieces to look at and then to see how they are made. It was a once in a lifetime tour. Very enjoyable adn of course the shopping in the gift shop! So many things to choose from
Wonderful visit to the factory gull of history and facts.
Loved seeing the museum collection, especially designs and pieces I didn’t know they made. We were there on a Sunday so the factory was not operational but there was one gentleman painting a piece and we could watch. Also enjoyed lunch in the garden.
Great tour through the fabric with a lot of historic facts and numerous pieces of ceramic throughout the years.
Very informative. Walk thru actual factory to see making and painting. Learn history - and difference between hand painted ceramic and the porcelain. Great store will full view variety ( no discount).
This was a tour of the Delft factory showcasing their history as the Royal provider of Delft. The iconic pottery is presented from its earliest days up to now. Various decorating techniques were explained. Most exciting was being shown how to (in my case, poorly) paint our own delft style tiles. There is a real Delft store on site.
An hour train ride from Amsterdam and a lovely short walk to the Delft factory and museum. Loved the walk through the market day along the canal, too. The museum was full of fun things and history. Cool to see the delft artisans working too.
Great experience looking how this wonderful pieces of ceramic are created and the history behind.
The Delft pottery is beautiful but the visit yo the factor was disappointing. We paid for an audio tour but they did not have enough devices to hand out. There were a couple of different tour groups there which really clogged up the small rooms.
If you like Delft then this is a must! Hand made products are very expensive. Delft is trying to modernize its drawings / products so that’s a plus.
Interesting insight into how Delfts Blauw is made. You’ll leave with a totally new appreciation for the cost of the product. Quite an expensive entry fee.
Don’t plan on rushing through the museum and factory unless you really don’t care for that sort of thing. The whole experience was fascinating and really enjoyed sitting down in the cafe afterwards with a cup of tea served in authentic Delftware.
As a huge fan of Delt pottery I was thrilled to be able to visit the Delft factory and museum. The history is clearly explained and there are hundreds of Delft creations on display with descriptions. You can even watch some artisans at work. There is a lovely cafe on site and an impressive gift shop. The town of Delft was very quaint and easy to navigate (took the train in from Amsterdam) and the market area was buzzing with people sitting outside eating and drinking. The canals are an added bonus. I'd love to go back!
It was a wonderful experience… the museum was amazing and seeing the artisans working on the beautiful creations was so special…. Would highly rate a trip here
The museum was fascinating! Seeing the workers actually doing their craft was crazy. The employees were extremely helpful and very nice.
I learned so much and loved the employees being so kind to all of us. I will definitely come back with other family members.
The tour is self guided… reading panels in each room, looking at samples and watching screens showing how it is done. It was well laid out, informative and we enjoyed it. There is an option for using an audio player but it says the same thing and we didn’t use it much. There are some very cool and interesting displays. Walking through the factory was cool and you can stop to watch someone working on the pieces and someone painting. Happily spent quite a long time in there reading and watching it all.
The factory and shop was a very interesting experience. I wish there were a little more direction. Such as the time they open and close. There was no guide, but there was an audio guide with stops along the way. You are completely on your own.
Great museum and self guided tour. The hand painted porcelain is outstanding. The shop offers a good range for sale but perhaps could include seconds for the less wealthy (it used to do) The cafe stopped serving food at 15:00 ‘because we close at 17:00’ she told us, so while we had sauntered through our visit at a leisurely pace we were not able to have a meal which we were planning. It would have been very helpful to have been told this on arrival. Booking-in is internet dependent - providing a booking reference number is not sufficient so we had some initial difficulty due to phone problems. What is the point of a booking reference number if it can’t be tracked back? Sorrow felt that the gorgeous delft blue toilets and basins of latter years had been replaced with standard white fittings.
This tour is an absolute MUST. Delft is an integral part of the dutch heritage and this museum and tour is really well organized. Delft is a lovely town not far from Amsterdam so it's an easy train trip and about a 15 minute walk from the train station. There's also a very sweet cafe at the museum that is great for lunch.
I truly enjoyed the museum and factory tour. There is a free audio tour available. Take it! That way, you get more out of the museum. They explained the process of making the pottery and the history of the Delft blue. The factory tour was short but I found it interesting. You could also see the products being hand painted. There is also a well stocked shop which had various items with wide price range.
We were looking forward to the Factory and Museum experience. The Museum was very informative with a wide display of pottery. It was particularly interesting to learn the history of pottery in Delft. We were very disappointed with the Factory part of the experience. There was a video to introduce you to the start of the process and one man finishing of a peace of pottery but there was no interaction between him and the visitors. We continued and came to an enclosed room where a lady was hand paining a plate. Again, there was no interaction between her and the visitors. She spent more time texting on her phone, than painting so we walked on. The factory experience was, sorry to say, very disapointing. The shop has a wide range of Delft iconic products.
Great opportunity to visit Delft. Nothing else more to say. Cant write enough for all characters req
Beautiful museum about Delft Porcelain. The museum explains the history of porcelain and also walks through a work place where currently porcelain is produced. There is a nice collection of porcelain in the museum, you can also do a workshop to make your own tile. I highly recommend this museum.
Good but not mind blowing. Since I have been to delft multiple times and visited other cathedrals and museums, I have decided finally to go to Royal Delft Factory-Museum. It was interesting to see the process, history, and factory where they really make things, so you can see the process. My favorite spot was the garden in that place, you can also get drinks and snacks in the cafe and sit to chill there. I loved that. Also big souvenir shop. My mom and I bought earrings, since I love accessories and buy them in every place I want to remember. But if you are coming for couple of days to the Netherlands and you are not so much into pottery, I would say, you can skip this museum. For pottery lowers it’s will be a great place to visit.
If you like looking at Delft pottery and learning about the history and production of it, it’s amazing. We left the husband and teenage son at home, and my mother and I really enjoyed it! There is a small parking lot beside the building which was very appreciated since we drove. Take a large sum of money if you plan on buying any of the signed pieces! Overall a lovely time.
In Delft is either museums about painters or porcelain. We chose the latter and learned a lot about the history from informative and logical narrative boards all in English. Cafe was excellent and the ship well stocked. No our taste but seems to be doing a roaring trade. If you are in town worth catching this for some local history.
I love Delft pottery and this was a real treat for me. We were there the day that all of Netherlands was celebrating King’s Day. I had made our tour reservation earlier and wrote to make certain they would be open….they responded that all would be normal though we noticed most employees usually painting and filling the workrooms were gone. There were a few there so that you could see what they do. Their work is incredible. Of course the hand-painted delft is very pricey but the factory store has lovely “printed” pieces that were more affordable and they also ship your purchases home for you. We made reservations to enjoy the tea offered in the restaurant and are so glad we did…it was delicious in a sweet garden room setting and very well priced. It was a wonderful day and we were so glad we went. We strolled around the town of Delft before catching our train back to Leiden.
Pleasant and knowledgeable guide telling the history and methods in details. Setting the master applying the design and asking questions was the highlight.
Nice exhibit. Educational regarding the history of the factory and the pottery. Love the store attached to the museum. Easy walk from hotel in residential area. We saw an artist painting on the pottery.
Good factory to look round. Plenty of pottery to buy in the shop . Good food in the cafe as well . Spent about 1.5 hours there
The factory and museum was well worth the visit. Lots of historical information. You are also allowed on the factory floor. We got to see one of the painters in action.
Clay making has always been my hobby and biggest passion. So visiting here is sort of must do for me ,I love the storytelling here and you could also make something for yourself.
What a wonderful experience Understanding the history of the pottery was spellbinding and a sheer education I had no idea that Delft pottery wasn’t just blue and white . The exhibition gave such an insight to both the past and present pottery To be able to walk through the factory and watch such dedicated and talented people work was a pleasure
My daughter and I arrived at the Delft factory bedraggled and cold from a long walk from the market square, made so because a bridge was out and also due to our own unfortunate directional decisions. We were greeted warmly by Scot and told that the staff would arrange our high tea to begin sooner than our reservation time so that we could warm up and get comfortable. We had the most wonderful time and spent the entire afternoon having a gorgeous tea, touring the museum and factory with the provided audio tour, and buying many things in the gift shop! There were only two others visiting the museum, so we were able to walk along the factory floor and ask as many questions as we could think of for the master painter, poor man. ;-) I can only imagine how crowded it gets in the summer when the tour buses pull up, but we had a glorious time reading and seeing every little thing by ourselves. The afternoon tea was amazing, and they made an entirely different lactose-free tier of food for me, which was much appreciated. As we were leaving, Scot showed us historical photos of the city of Delft and directed us to a shorter and very enjoyable walk back to the train station, with the directions of "just follow the bikes". We were successful in doing just that! A big thanks to the staff of the museum for this hospitality!
Second time through the museum, both times with high tea, first time doing the tile painting workshop. I love this place (and I'm not a huge museum fan). It's thoughtfully laid out and gives great information on the audio tour (there's even an audio tour for kids!). Besides for the beautiful museum, the highlight of the day was definitely the employees! In the museum itself there are knowledgeable staff on hand that have fun facts, and answer questions, but the standout star of our family day was Scott at reception! He was amazing, accommodated our change in times, gave us the best hints and tips, and is the best brand ambassador I have come across in my travels!
