The hotel is "interesting". First of all, I've never seen hotels with no reception. Instead there is a phone number of one, which allows you to get your digital key for the main door and your room. The building itself is historical so it is beautiful inside. The rooms was fine, I lived on the 3rd floor, which was practically an attic. Still could smell sewers a bit, but it was barely noticeable in general. The bed- and the bathroom were clean. There was also an AC, so you wouldn't get too cold or too warm in here. This place is just fine for a couple of nights

If you value basic customer service, flexibility, and human decency, book elsewhere. My experience with The Velvet Lodge has been nothing short of a masterclass in corporate greed and rigid bureaucracy. I attempted to book a room for mid-August through Booking.com. During the checkout process, the website glitched and refreshed, silently defaulting the date to October 10th. Because I have dyslexia, sudden and unprompted UI changes are an accessibility hurdle for me. I saw that the day was still set to "Saturday" and finalized the booking, not realizing the system had pushed the date two months into the future. I realized the error immediately and reached out to the hotel to explain the honest mistake and ask for a refund or a date change. Keeping in mind that October 10th was nearly two full months away, cancelling this room would cause absolutely zero financial harm or logistical disruption to their business. They have 60 days to resell the room. Instead of acknowledging the platform glitch or showing a shred of understanding, management rigidly hid behind their "non-refundable" policy and refused to refund my €121.50. They explicitly stated they "cannot take responsibility for an incorrectly selected travel date," completely ignoring that their booking partner's website caused the error and that they lose absolutely nothing by canceling a reservation two months in advance. They are legally allowed to keep the money, but choosing to pocket a guest’s payment over a genuine, immediately reported technical error shows exactly how they view their customers. They care about exploiting technicalities, not about hospitality. Avoid this place.
THE WORST HOTEL EVER!!!! The filthiest room that I have ever stayed in my life. Floor was not cleaned at all, super dusty and smelly room. No air conditioning, no TV, mold on the wall and ceiling, absolutely disgusting. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!
DO NOT RECOMMEND TO STAY HERE!!!!!!! It claims it’s a 4 star hotel, but in reality it is more like the hole in wall. Worst hotel experience of my life in the Netherlands. When we first opened the door we were swooped by the musty smell and then later we realised that room was last cleaned when dinosaurs walked the earth. At least the layer of dust everywhere suggested so. The towels smelled funny, mold on the ceiling and walls. 2in1 shower liquid if you care for your hair I would avoid it. WI-FI was soo weak I could not connect neither could my sister, so we could not use it at all. NO mini fridge NO TV NO air conditioning €104 for a night in a barn did NOT feel like a 4 star hotel at all
The location is great very central, yet quiet in the room. The room itself was beautiful, with high ceilings. However, the service was disappointing. The Bluetooth key didn’t work, and I ended up locked outside with another guest at 11 pm. I tried calling and reaching out via WhatsApp, but no one responded. It took about 20 minutes before the key started working again and we were finally able to get inside.
