Victor Martins did a phenomenal job of touring my husband and I! We had a personal tour and it was wonderful. His passion for history and for the San Antonio area was quite evident. He took time for explanations and answered all of our questions. He made the tour interesting and fun with many tidbits about folklore and rumors regarding the Alamo. We learned and saw alot! We will remember our trip to San Antonio fondly, largely due to this tour and tour guide.

Itinerary
Meet Victor, your local storyteller, outside The Emily Morgan Hotel, across from the Alamo. Begin with overlooked stories of Alamo Plaza, including Hotel Gibbs, the historic federal building, the Woolworth Building, the Menger Hotel, Theodore Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, and the former Joske’s building. Your reserved timed-entry visit to the Alamo Church is arranged in advance. After exploring the interior, regroup with Victor to discover how Mission San Antonio de Valero became a military garrison and fortified compound connected to the Spanish presidio. How did the mission become known as the Alamo, and how did San Antonio receive its name? Meet the people behind the famous names. Hear how Joe witnessed Travis fall, what Susanna Dickinson endured with her young daughter, why Crockett’s final moments remain debated, and the dramatic story of Robert Evans racing toward the powder magazine. Victor brings these stories to life while saving the most powerful details for the experience.
Descend from Alamo Plaza toward the River Walk, passing the former Joske’s building and St. Joseph Catholic Church, nearly surrounded by later development. Learn how the San Antonio River sustained the area’s earliest communities and how the creation of the River Walk later helped preserve, revitalize, and reshape downtown. Continue to the waterfall for a photo stop, then visit the statue of Saint Anthony of Padua as Victor shares how Spanish explorers named the river in 1691. Next, board your included narrated GO RIO cruise. From the water, see historic bridges, public art, hotels, the Lila Cockrell Theatre, and the Henry B. González Convention Center while hearing how San Antonio grew from a mission settlement into a modern destination. After the cruise, continue past the Miguel Hidalgo monument on the way to the Tower of the Americas.
Before ascending the Tower of the Americas, Victor introduces stories many visitors never expect to hear here. What connects the assassination of federal judge John H. Wood Jr. to one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors? Which U.S. president visited San Antonio just one day before he was assassinated? Then step into the story of HemisFair ’68. What diplomatic efforts helped bring Mexico and other nations to San Antonio? Why did a First Lady play such a visible role in opening the fair? How was the Hilton Palacio del Rio completed in only 202 days, and why was the historic Fairmount Hotel moved about five blocks instead of being demolished? Your included admission takes you to the observation deck of the 750-foot Tower of the Americas, where panoramic views reveal how San Antonio’s historic neighborhoods, missions, downtown skyline, and surrounding landscape fit together.
Walk through La Villita, one of San Antonio’s oldest neighborhoods, as Victor begins connecting the people, places, and stories introduced earlier. How did Samuel Augustus Maverick become linked to the word “maverick,” and how did his grandson, Mayor Maury Maverick, help save La Villita from demolition? At the Arneson River Theatre, discover why this familiar setting appeared in Miss Congeniality and how San Antonio also became a backdrop for Spy Kids. Cross Rosita’s Bridge and learn why it honors one of the city’s most beloved Mexican American performers. Continue past the Briscoe Western Art Museum, where San Antonio’s Spanish, Mexican, Texan, and Western stories begin to overlap. This walk through La Villita brings together earlier themes of missions, movies, music, preservation, and identity before the experience continues toward Main Plaza for its final chapter.
Leaving the Briscoe Western Art Museum, continue beneath the Presa Street truss bridge and along the River Walk past Marriage Island, the Tower Life Building, and the Locks of Love Bridge. Victor connects these landmarks to earlier stories about the river, Spanish exploration, preservation, and San Antonio’s changing identity. Climb toward the Bexar County Courthouse and pass La Mexicana, where Victor and Victor Jr. spent more than a year developing their experiences. Arrive at the Canary Islanders Monument and San Fernando Cathedral, where the city’s Spanish, Indigenous, Mexican, military, and civic stories come together. Continue through Main Plaza toward Military Plaza and discover how the Cathedral became connected to the Alamo story. When scheduled, conclude with San Antonio | The Saga. The experience ends near the River Walk restaurant area. Guests may continue exploring, or Victor will gladly walk them to a nearby downtown hotel or back toward the meeting point.
Pass the Bexar County Courthouse and Founders Monument at Main Plaza, once known as Plaza de las Islas. Hear how 56 Canary Islanders arrived on March 9, 1731, after a sea and overland journey lasting more than a year. They established Villa de San Fernando de Béxar and formed the first organized civil government in Texas, helping create the civil town that grew into modern San Antonio.

Victor was fabulous! Frindly, informative, good energy. Of course extremely knowledgeable.
We had never visited San Antonio before, and honestly did not know what to expect. Victor showed us so many beautiful sites and shared so much wonderful history that we were truly amazed. If we had tried to visit on our own, we would’ve missed so many great stories and insights that Victor was able to share with us.
I am so glad that I booked this tour with Victor. I had the best time! Victor has so much knowledge, has a great sense of humor, and the tour was so engaging! I felt like I was walking through San Antonio with a member of my family. I would definitely recommend this to anyone headed to San Antonio. Victor is a true gem! Don’t hesitate… Book this tour!
Guide was awesome and was very knowledgeable in all the areas. Took time to discuss all the areas and history of the town.
Hello, This was a very informative enlightening tour. It was a little different as I was by myself, but Victor explained this is done to provide a personalized experience. I will definitely be looking for a tour like this for the next place I chose to travel too. The guide took pictures of me with his ipad at various notable places on the tour, then emailed them back to me along with the slides of the presentation afterwards. This felt like more than a two mile walk, and it was very humid. But, I knew this going into it with it being in September. This was Well worth my time. Much better than being in front of the TV or just drinking in a bar to pass the time. in
Victor was honestly one of the best tour guides I've ever had. He was very informative and personable. He even brought water and snacks for everyone in the tour and was prepared with extra umbrellas when it started raining. He reached out a couple days before the tour and offered assistance with anything we might have needed during our vacation. He was early to the meeting location and we made slight adjustments to the tour as the rain was coming and going to keep us as dry as possible. He took several photos along the way and emailed them to us afterwards. I would highly recommend booking through 5 star adventures and ask for Victor.
This is one of the most informative and interesting tours we have ever been on. We had a negative view of Texas, but after the tour, we have a great appreciation for the history, culture, and people of San Antonio. The guide was exceptional and went out of his way to give us one of the best tours ever. I would highly recommend it.
Victor is a great guide. vEry knowledgeable know all history and also very kind and patient. Thank you.
Very knowledgeable tour guide with great recommendations on things to see and do here in San Antonio. Lots of history to see while walking, in addition to a short boat ride around the river. We also went into the tower. Of americas. We appreciated the private tour as opposed to a large group. Lots of walking but we took breaks and Victor provided plenty of water which was more than appreciated. Would recommend to those interested in detailed history and are not afraid to walk!
This was an amazingly fun and informative tour. I'm a history lover and Victor gave an excellent history lesson on the Alamo as well as the entire history of San Antonio! I highly recommend this tour!!

Victor was vey knowledgeable and informative about the history of San Antonio in his tour. Including historic photos of the area and buildings. Victor was also very responsive when asking questions about parking in advance of our trip. Definitely would recommend to friends and family visiting.
Fun and very interesting. Tour guide, Victor, is funny and personable and really takes the time to explain everything about the San Antonio region. He goes above and beyond and quickly gets a feel of what your interests are for the tour. We passed by a church not on the tour and he allowed us time to enter which was a blessing due to the fact that there was adoration. He allowed us time to pray which was very respectful of Victor. He gave us a plan of the day overview and throughout the tour let us know what was next. He took pictures which he later emailed to us and he even had snacks which included homemade cookies. Highly recommend this tour with Victor.
Victor took my husband and I on a four hour tour this morning. Victor is a great story teller. He brought fruit nuts and homemade cookies from his daughter. We saw everything from the Alamo to the Tower of the Americas, famous old churches and the River walk. I highly recommend this tour.

Victor was amazing and very knowledgeable, we had a great time. Highly recommend this tour! Thank you so much Victor!!!
I absolutely love history and Westerns, this is why I made this trip out here solo. I booked a walking tour so that way I could shamelessly eat as much TEXAS BBQ as I want. The whole experience was wonderful, Victor was extremely knowledgeable, funny, and friendly. From the moment we met he was delightful. He had me oooing and awwwing in between laughs, he had some great jokes and his delivery was good. Using a tablet to help with old photos as a visual aid to his stories was a nice touch. He was able to stir the imagination as he explained what was, what happened, how the people talk about it, and his own points of view, were good. Very friendly and helpful, was able to help several lost people find their destination, during our tour was going on. I was very impressed because he KNOWS San Antonio better than I know the back of my hand. I say this because he was able to point out some discrepancies and to be honest, it was very cool. During the tour he made several recommendations for me onto occupy my time once the tour was over. I did just about ALL OF THEM... I had a wonderful time and would highly recommend doing this tour if you like walking, love history, and want to share some laughs. There are photos from our tour, the cruise, and the tower of Americas.

Victor guided us back through time with his rich storytelling, abundant knowledge, and commitment to accuracy. He proved also to be an active listener, adapting the tour to our time and interests (and some gnarly cold winds). Though we fell into this tour via a couple of mediocre marketing platforms, we could not believe our great good fortune in seizing the opportunity to spend such transformative time with Victor, particularly early in our visit to San Antonio. We highly recommend that travelers book this tour early in their San Antonio itineraries, as it is the gift that keeps on giving throughout the rest of the stay (and beyond). Salud!
Victor ran a great tour and we enjoyed it a great deal. If you can only have time to do one tour of Sanitation this is the one to take. Joe Male, Black Diamond, WA.
This tour is a MUST DO! My 10 year old son recently studied about the Alamo and wanted to visit. This tour was perfect! Victor was incredibly knowledgeable of the rich culture and history of the area. He was amazing with my son and kept all 3 of us engaged for 4+ hours and caterer the tour to our interests. We created some special memories today! By the end of the tour, it felt like Victor was one of our family members.
Excellent tour with a very knowledgeable and personable guide. I highly recommend this tour if you are visiting San Antonio for the first time or are unfamiliar with the downtown area.
This trip was every dollar worth it! Our guide Victor was full of history, fun facts and generally just a good guy! He gave us so many tips and taught us so much about the history. You get free entrance into all the places listed and it winds up to be a really good time and the best bang for your buck.
