Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and I learned so much about the missions and how they enabled Texas.
What an amazing tour with Joseph. That man loves his job!! He was a wealth of knowledge regarding history, religion and the San Antonio area. The tour of the missions was the highlight of our weekend getaway.
Joseph was very knowledgeable and intelligent. He provided in-depth information and commentary throughout the tour. He even gave great suggestions for meals off the beaten path for after the tour. (BTW, Dough was a fantastic suggestion!)
Be prepared to be wet! Be prepared to learn a lot! Our guild was wonderful and he knew so much about the history
Joseph, our tour guide, was excellent. Very knowledgeable. Tour covers the 4 Missions outside downtown core.
The experience was so good, our guide , Mat made it all so special. He brought the missions to life with his stories and historical facts.
Matt was an excellent guide, and explained all kind of details and curiosities. The visit was really interesting, and I enjoyed it a lot. Many thanks to Matt!!
We had a wonderful time on this tour. Matthew was so great at story telling and made the trip educational and fun. He took into account that we were there on a very warm day and told stories in the a/c before we walked to the different missions. This was one of the best tours we have ever been on.
Wonderful tour. Our guide, Matt, was very knowledgeable and fun. It was a great experience!
Our tour guide Matt was so knowledgable and passionate, and we were lucky to be the only 2 people on the trip. Really interesting history for us, being Sunday, mass was on in a couple of the missions, but we were able to peak in which was a humbling experience. A really great trip, banboozled with history and culture!
We had a great half-day with Matt as our guide. We learned a lot about San Antonio history and the missions.
This was an excellent tour with Matt leading the way. His knowledge of mission & San Antonio history is remarkable & his personality is perfect for the job. He’s witty & funny & we probably talked his ear off too! We would love to do another tour of any type with Matt. He went over & above his duties with us several times.
It’s an in depth tour with a very knowledgeable guide. The heat in Texas can be tough if you want to walk all the missions but there is ample indoor cool space to get a break. Overall a very good experience. The last stop could have been a little shorter as it’s only a single church building not a full mission complex. Very good and knowledgeable tour guide.
The guide was very knowledgeable!
That this is the real San Antonio. Very informative and knowledgeable tour guide. The missions all had their uniqueness’s. The rivers that flow through San Antonio are all there in their natural state. Don’t miss the film at the world heritage site!
The experience itself is very good. Going to see the missions is very interesting and allows you to see a glimpse into San Antonio’s past. The guide made the experience difficult. He was very knowledgeable about the missions and San Antonio in general. The problem with him was that he talked about 75% too much inserting much irrelevancy all in a monotone. He selected the worst possible places in the direct sun instead of a nearby shady area to have long monologues. When people say they hate history, this type thing is probably what happened to them. It needs to be interactive, lighter, humorous and passionate. Someone that can make it come alive. It was pretty intolerable.
We really enjoyed this tour with our guide Joseph. He was very informative about the missions, the area and San Antonio. We learned so much and enjoyed each of the missions we visited. He answered our questions and knew so much about the history of the area. We highly recommend this tour.
Matt was a great tour guide and gave a lot of information about the missions and the history of the settling of the area. He also showed us other aspects of the area and took his time answering questions for the group.
Matthew was a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable.
What a wonderful experience. We were initially unsure what to expect, but this tour surpassed all our expectations. Matt was highly knowledgeable, providing excellent context and patiently answering all our questions. The missions were beautiful and the rich history behind them and Matts expert explainations really made the past come alive. We will definitely recommend this tour to anyone we know headed to San Antonio.
Tour was excellent! Our driver/ guide (Joseph) was excellent; he was knowledgeable, spoke clearly and easy to understand. The amount of time allowed at each stop was just right. Joseph would return to the van and get it running allowing the AC to kick-in as it was a very warm day and he had bottled water for anyone who wanted it. Highly recommend.
Very knowledgeable guide. Easy to understand. Spoke clearly and answered any and all questions. We were given plenty of time to explore.
Our tour guide Joseph was very knowledgeable but way too talkative. We would reach our destination and he would keep us in the van for several minutes some seven 15-20 minutes still talking. We did not feel we were given enough time to explore each site.
This tour was very interesting and thought provoking .. Joseph, our guide, was very knowledgeable of the history and the human aspect of these missions and churches, living conditions and the people who lived there .. my friend and I both commented how much we enjoyed this tour ..thank you to Joseph..
My guide, Matt, was a good communicator, informative and personable. The van was comfortable and clean. There was a time to explore the sites up close. I learned a great deal and gained a new appreciation for the history.
We went with the guide Joseph and he was fantastic, kindly telling and explaining stories of the tour. We have a deeper understanding of the Missions because of him. Tour lasts from 9AM to about 1:30PM, starting near the main river walk. Highly recommend
Really in depth tour experience. Guide was very knowledgeable. Only issue is that I wish I had more free time to explore the mission sites myself instead of being lead through them
Joseph was a knowledgeable guide and very accommodating at dropping people off at different locations at the end of the tour. However, he would arrive at a mission and lecture while we were still in the van and some of the passengers were claustrophobic and uncomfortable. I have used Viator in several countries and have never had this experience. He seemed to want to lecture in the van and then let people wander at their leisure at each site. I would prefer someone who gives a true guided tour at each mission site. He actually seemed to start doing this somewhat later in the tour.
Our tour guide Joseph knew his stuff backwards and fowards. However, he would start talking and barely take a breath to allow for back-and-forth from our admittedly small group. By the fourth or fifth mission, we were burned out and had information overload. The tour time could have been cut down as we had too much time at each site. If I could do it over, I would have found some audio tours online or done some deep-dive history podcasts in advance and driven the route ourselves. On the bright side, each location had convenient water and restroom availability. The missions themselves are definitely worth seeing.
A Missions Tour is a definite must when visiting San Antonio. We booked a small group tour through Texian Tours hoping that on a ten person or less tour it might be more interactive and flexible. It happened to be raining lightly throughout the day we toured and there was only my friend and I plus another couple. The tour company picked us up at our hotels to avoid having to walk to the usual meeting place in the rain and amidst set up for the city’s annual Fiesta San Antonio. That was thoughtful and helpful. Our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge and spent an over abundance of time talking and sharing that info. He typically talked for an extended period of time in one place, often in the rain, before releasing us to explore on our own. That free time felt way too short especially at the larger missions. It was hard to get questions in while he was talking and I often forgot my questions by the time he asked if there were any. At that point I also just wanted to get away and explore on my own. There are many ways to explore the missions and trails that connect them. They are a must see but I would suggest knowing how you best learn in situations like these and pick a way to tour that best fits that. If you choose a guided tour, ask how long you typically get to explore each mission in your own. Not having a car, touring with a company seemed the most efficient way to tour. It’s the luck of the draw as to who your guide will be. In hind site, I wish I had excused myself and walked away to explore more on my own! Overall, I’m extremely happy I did the tour. I have no complaints about Texian Tours. Their guide was just not a good fit for me and my style of learning and how I best take in information on a tour like this that has so incredibly much history and info to process.
Truly awesome inspite of the rain. Joseph was amazing. No question or comment went unanswered. Learned so much. We had a great time☺️
Our guide was amazing. The experience was tremendous. The venues we visited were very interesting. Thank you for the memories.
Joseph was the best tour guide - he has an amazing amount of knowledge about the missions - we enjoyed it - thank you Joseph
Our guide Joseph was incredibly knowledgeable and informative. I must say, I loved his narratives and he took his time. If you love history, this is your guy and tour.
Our guide Joseph was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the entire area and was able to explain how each mission was established and how they came to be as they are today. Joseph kept our group well organized and comfortable. On our Sunday tour he was very respectful of the local parishioners attending mass at the missions. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and thought Joseph was a fantastic guide.
Great tour full of history of the San Antonio area
San Antonio missions were a great way to understand the founding of San Antonio. Our guide Joseph was incredibly knowledgeable and brought a true richness to the tours. As we were touring on Good Friday, his understanding of the local religious services and observances, we were able to see the missions while not disturbing the parishioners. We would highly recommend this tour for those with interest in the history of San Antonio and would recommend seeing the older missions before touring the Alamo.
It was a very positive experience with Josef - he is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge - made a very interesting tour by touching on history, as well as many other subjects
Joseph was an awesome tour guide for this experience. He was knowledgeable and provided lesser known facts in addition to more popular historical information. We recommend this tour to anyone wanting a history lesson in these centuries old sites.
Guide, Joseph is a storehouse of knowledge not only about the missions visited but also about the history of San Antonio. Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn more about either of these subjects
Our guide was Joseph and the depth of his knowledge of the Missions and their history far exceeded what we could have expected. We absolutely recommend this tour.
I have been on many trips over my 81 years and joined many tours. I'm also a writer and historian. NEVER have I had the privilege to hear a trip leader of the caliber I had today. And drats I don't remember his name!!! We toured 4 historic Spanish missions and found every minute he spoke to be fascinating. Honestly, he needs to be in the classroom.
Joseph the tour guide was full of great information on the history of the missions, both past and present.
Joseph was very informative. He really knows his history. Pace of tour was perfect. Highly recommend this tour.
Joseph was personable and a great storyteller! Had an amazing time and would recommend to anyone.
This was an amazing tour, despite the very cold weather (unexpected). The tour guide, Joseph, was incredibly knowledgeable - a wealth of information. I enjoyed my conversations with him. He provided additional context to each site and pointed out details/historical facts about sites and the towns we drove through. The actual sites were interesting, and I loved viewing the Missions. Overall, a great trip, and I highly recommend Joseph. One of the highlights of my trip to San Antonio.
Mission tour was was a very comprehensive experience. Guide, Joseph, was very knowlegable and shared a wealth of information . We would highly recommend tour to others.
Absolutely, could not have been any better. Joseph is the best. Great voice, easily understood and tireless.
Matthew was both knowledgeable and fun. He gave us a great tour of each mission and enough time to enjoy each one.
