Victor was superb. He spent extra time with us, so we could tour inside the Alamo. He drove around to point out other sites and places to eat. He was very considerate of our needs in terms of walking pace, restrooms, and everything else. He provided water and snacks and took pix of us to email. He told us we were family now. It felt true. I gave him a big , sweaty hug at the end. He really went above and beyond. I can’t say enough about how great he was!!!!

Itinerary
"Discover the Mission Reach, where contemporary public art along the revitalized San Antonio River tells the cultural stories you'll experience at the UNESCO missions. Learn how the stunning murals and tilework celebrate 300 years of indigenous, Spanish, and Mexican heritage - setting the stage for the authentic colonial stories and cultural legends awaiting at each World Heritage mission site."
"We drive by the Spanish Governor's Palace, where 1749 colonial authority meets cultural complexity. This adobe residence housed the Spanish governors who controlled both the UNESCO missions and civilian life in colonial San Antonio. We share the palace's hidden diplomatic stories and cultural negotiations between Spanish rulers and local peoples, explaining how colonial administration created the cultural fusion you'll experience at each mission site."
"Learn all about the San Fernando Cathedral's sacred mysteries, where history and spirituality intertwine. This 1738 limestone cathedral holds San Antonio's most profound secret - the marble sarcophagus containing the remains of Alamo heroes Crockett, Travis, and Bowie. We explain how this active house of worship served Spanish colonists, Mexican families, and Texas pioneers, remaining the spiritual anchor through every cultural transition. See how the cathedral's Hispanic heritage continues today, then later on your own experience the breathtaking 'Saga' light show that transforms the facade into a canvas telling San Antonio's complete cultural story."
"Step into La Villita with, where San Antonio's founding story began in 1718. This historic village site is where Spanish settlers first established the community and named it for Saint Anthony of Padua. We share how Canary Island colonists and indigenous peoples created the original cultural fusion that defines San Antonio today. See where the city's founders lived and how this original settlement became the cultural foundation of modern San Antonio."
"Experience Mission Espada, San Antonio's oldest mission (1690) and UNESCO World Heritage site where cultural collision created fusion. We reveal how the Moorish doorway represents three civilizations - Islamic, Spanish, and indigenous Coahuiltecan - while sharing the complex story of cultural negotiation beyond simple missionary narratives. See indigenous stonework craftsmanship and learn how the acequia system shows cultural adaptation that created San Antonio's unique heritage."
"Discover Mission San Juan, where 1716 agricultural innovation reveals cultural collaboration between indigenous Coahuiltecan farming wisdom and Spanish colonial needs. This UNESCO World Heritage site's extensive acequia irrigation system represents indigenous water management adapted by missionaries. We explain how this agricultural powerhouse sustained all four missions through cultural exchange, not just European farming - showing how indigenous knowledge became San Antonio's agricultural foundation."
"Discover Mission San José, the "Queen of the Missions" where cultural fusion created artistic masterpieces. This 1720 UNESCO World Heritage site housed 300+ indigenous residents who created something entirely new - neither purely Spanish nor traditionally native. We share the rose window's love story carved by indigenous artisan Pedro Huizar, and explains how the intricate stone carvings represent cultural survival and artistic innovation that made San José the crown jewel of colonial heritage."
"Experience Mission Concepción, America's oldest unrestored stone church where 300-year-old indigenous artisan work remains untouched. This 1731 UNESCO World Heritage site's vivid frescoes and limestone construction show authentic colonial reality - We explain how the "unrestored" state preserves original indigenous painting techniques and Spanish methods. See how this active parish maintains cultural continuity where indigenous descendants still worship, blending Catholic ritual with ancestral traditions hidden in the original artwork."
"We end our mission's journey at Alamo Plaza, where 88-year-old Franciscan friar Antonio de Olivares founded San Antonio in 1718 by mixing mud and straw for the first mission cornerstone. We reveal how this remarkable act of faith at San Pedro Springs created not just Misión San Antonio de Valero (the future Alamo), but an entire city and the UNESCO mission system you'll explore today before driving down historic Houston Street."
Historic Houston Street in Downtown San Antonio, Texas: History, Ghost Stories, Fun Facts, and Economic Impact Houston Street is one of the most iconic and historically significant streets in downtown San Antonio, Texas. Running through the heart of the city, it has long been a major thoroughfare for commerce, culture, and entertainment. From its early days as a key part of San Antonio's historic district to its vibrant role in modern urban life, Houston Street is a living testament to the city’s rich history.
The Majestic Theatre is San Antonio's oldest and largest atmospheric theatre. The theatre seats 2,264 people and was designed by architect John Eberson, for Karl Hoblitzell's Interstate Theatres in 1929. Despite many years of entertaining the crowds the Majestic closed in 1974. In 1981 it was reopened but a superficial remodeling covered up many of the important architectural details. It was closed again in 1988 and the City of San Antonio stepped-in to purchase the theatre.

Victor was very knowledgeable about the Missions and San Antonio. We learned a lot and enjoyed our experience.
Victor was very knowledgeable and made the tour feel very personal. He even got my 12 year-old engaged in the tour.
Victor is very knowledgeable and friendly and makes the tour feel very personal.
Booked the San Antonio missions tour with Victor and it was 100% worth it. We love history and he shared so much fascinating info about each mission. He went above and beyond and showed us many other interesting places that we never would have known about it. It was such a fantastic day!
It was like having your uncle show you around. Very personable and knowledgeable. It was a great experience.
We really enjoyed this tour with Victor. Five stars for sure. He had a great personality and a lot of information. We went on a Sunday and were even able to see the insides of the missions- had good timing. Take this tour!
I had a great experience experiencing and learning about Mission San Juan, Mission Concepcion, Mission Espada, and Mission San Jose with Victor. I had originally signed up for a small group tour, but because of the timing, received a private tour. This allowed me to ask unlimited questions and to have a more personalized experience with a couple extra stops. Victor also took numerous photos of me at the different sites-- something that's difficult to get as a solo traveler. He had plenty of water and snacks as well. At the end of the tour, he gave me recommendations about additional places to visit while I was in town. Overall, this was an excellent experience!
Outstanding tour with Victor! Easily one of the best tours I’ve taken over decades of travel around the world. Victor is clearly an expert in local history. His breadth of knowledge, in depth understanding of history and personable demeanor result in an interesting and enjoyable tour of this fascinating city. The van was pristine and air conditioned. Tasty snacks and water provided. When I return to San Antonio, I will book another tour with Victor.
I am a native of San Antonio and wanted to do a Mission trip with my boyfriend who is visiting from Argentina to show him more of my hometown’s history. Not only did my boyfriend have an incredible time seeing the missions and parts of San Antonio not always visited by tourists, but I too also learned so much about my own city. Victor is an incredible tour guide, knows the history of SATX through and through, but also shows a notable appreciation for the town, her missions, and her people that is greatly appreciated as a native myself. Without a doubt this tour has been the best tour I’ve taken, and to confirm I’ve done a lot of tours around San Antonio and Austin. More than worth the money and time, and I could not recommend Victor more. It’s a huge plus that he focused on small groups (in fact, when I did it, it was just my boyfriend and I so we had the honor of a private tour) which helps really get to ask questions and not be overwhelmed with a large crowd. Thank you so much again Victor!!! We loved everything.
There’s a reason this tour has such glowing reviews! I was so grateful they honored my booking even though I was the only guest. Antonio was a fantastic guide—professional, kind, and an expert on everything from San Antonio’s history to its native nature. He made the history/culture of San Antonio and the Missions really come alive. I loved learning about the local nature too—I’m officially a pecan tree expert now! He also sent me beautiful photos of the day that I will always treasure. I learned so much and enjoyed every minute. If I could give 10 stars, I would!
Victor is absolutely the best tour guide, treating us like family and going above and beyond to customize his tours and make everyone feel comfortable. He shares his extensive knowledge through fascinating stories, bringing San Antonio's history and culture to life. Victor is kind, funny, and engaging. In addition to his passion for guiding tours, Victor is a talented photographer who provided us with a treasured digital gallery of our memorable experiences. We took both of Victor's tours-the "BEST" Mission tour and the Alamo, River Walk & Cathedral Legends tour-we highly recommend both 5-star tours.
I took the San Antonio 1/2 Day BEST UNESCO Colonial Missions driving tour with Victor from The Five Star Adventures and found it to be a very solid experience. The tour is done in a small van rather than a large bus, which makes it more personal and comfortable. Victor was both the driver and the tour guide. At the beginning of the tour, he asked about our interests so he could tailor the commentary accordingly. He is knowledgeable about the missions and local history and presents the information in an engaging way. He was consistently respectful and attentive, while also having a good sense of humor and always being ready for a joke (or a bit of what he calls being “silly”), which keeps the tour enjoyable without taking away from the content. The price point might seem higher than some other tours available, but the smaller group size, personal approach, and added touches make it worth the price and good value if you are looking for a more personal experience rather than a standard bus tour. This is especially true considering that Victor went above and beyond in terms of service: greeting us with snacks, having water available throughout the tour, sharing information about the city that is not even part of the tour, and taking great photos during the stops (he is an excellent photographer) and sharing them afterward. I have taken other tours that feel canned and impersonal; this was not the case and Victor makes the difference. He was also very communicative around pickup and logistics, which is highly appreciated and not always the case with other tours I have taken. Overall, this tour offers a thoughtful and well-run introduction to the missions. It’s a great option if you prefer a smaller group experience with a knowledgeable friendly guide and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
Victor, our guide, was very knowledgeable. He was well prepared and offered snacks and water, which was great. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a thorough understanding of the missions system, San Antonio's history, and the downtown area.
Excellent experience all around! My mom and I took the tour together and it was private. Victor communicated well in advance. We had a hotel pick up and everything went smoothly. Antonio, our driver and guide, was friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. The van was spacious and clean, and great snacks were provided. We spent a nice amount of time walking around and exploring each mission and the new world heritage center. Antonio took tons of pictures and later shared them with us, which was an unexpected perk. It was so nice to just enjoy the day, without worrying about documenting it. Thank you Antonio and Victor for a memorable and fun experience!
My husband and I and another couple did the San Antonio Mission Tour with Victor Martins of 5 Star Adventures USA. We got an extra bonus as his brother from Portugal came along also. The tour was fantastic! Comfortable Mercedes van loaded with water and goodies for us. They took wonderful pictures the entire time and sent them to us the next day. Both were very knowledgeable, gracious, pleasant and fun! If you are doing anything in San Antonio I would definitely recommend this tour guide and his company. He does multiple different tours throughout San Antonio and I suspect all would be good.
Victor and Antonio were are tour guides and treated us like family. They made the tour exciting, informative and enjoyable. We were also treated to snacks and drinks.
One of the best tours experiences I ever have! Victor is professional and knowledgeable. He made sure we enjoyed every single moment and we surely did! He also took beautiful pictures for us, highly recommend!! I will definitely join his tour again in the future if I ever come back.
Victor provided my wife and me a wonderful tour experience. He gave us so many details about each stop and took his time to answer our questions. We learned so much about the rich history of San Antonio and about the beautiful Mission sites. I highly recommend him for a tour as he was a great tour guide.
Incredible experience! Victor and Antonio were very knowledgeable and shared so much history of San Antonio and the Missions. I felt history come to life touring the four missions. Each mission was unique and Victor knew interesting tidbits of the history and main function of each mission. I highly recommend this extraordinary tour!
Our tour guide Victor from 5 Stars was excellent! Went over and beyond what was required for the tour! Very knowledgeable and had surprises for us too!
Where do I start!? Victor picked us up at our hotel in a very nice, comfortable and clean Mercedes Van which fit the 8 of us perfectly! It was apparent from the beginning he had a great personality and it would be a fun day! He had fresh cookies waiting for each of us (which were delicious) and cold water and fruit if we needed a snack. The mission visits were so amazing and spiritual and Victor’s extensive knowledge of the history of San Antonio was so interesting and inspiring! He made us laugh and treated us like family from the very beginning! He never rushed us during the tour but kept the flow consistent. We learned so much but also had time to “absorb” the beauty of each of the missions and time to really reflect on the tranquility of each place. Victor even went so far as to take beautiful pictures of our group at each stop and email them to us along with some other lovely landmark photos! The tour was the perfect length and we felt so lucky to have done it with such a knowledgeable and kind person! We wouldn’t hesitate to book another tour with Victor and 5 Star Adventures! In fact we will be collaborating with him in the future on another great trip as he feels like family now!
This is a great tour to learn about the origins of San Antonio and the importance it has played in America. Victor was knowledgeable, professional and hospitable. He even provided snacks and homemade cookies! You will love the VIP feel of this tour!
Víctor was very knowledgeable, friendly and thoughtful. He definitely went the extra mile and this is not a “cookie cutter” tour. For those interested in history, take this tour.
Incredibly personal and informative. Victor was everything we envisioned in a tour guide. Never go wrong with viator.
Victor picked us up at our hotel. He was very nice, provided snacks and water. His van was clean and comfortable. He was extremely knowledgeable.
Great experience, the best tour I have taken anywhere. The best way to learn about San Antonio and it's cultural history. I strongly recommend this tour to everyone. It his an inspirational experience. I took all 3 of the 5staradventuresusa tours and loved them all in every way. Victor has a great way of telling the stories that reflecting the past. Go for it, you will be inspired.
This was one of the best tours that I have had the pleasure to take in a very long time. Victor picked us up at our campground and offered us yummy snacks and ice cold water to drink. He asked what our main goal was for this tour. My husband mentioned the Alamo was the thing that he was most interested in. Normally on this tour the Alamo was a point of interest but mainly a drive by. Victor customized our tour to include walking into the Alamo along with getting us a ticket and taking pictures of us for us. The tour was very educational and I learned a lot. We also had a lot of fun as Victor had a way of bringing a sense of humor into history. This tour may cost alittle more than your average tour but that is because it is NOT your average tour. It does not disappoint but you might end up alittle fluffy.
We have over our years been on many of different tours of places. This tour by far was most definitely interested and personable. Victor went out of his way to pick us up at a KOA that we were staying. Immediately offered us snacks and water. I was most defiantly interested in the missions but my most important place for me to see was the Alamo. He revamped the tour to accomnodate.me. He was constantly throughout the tour offering us water and snacks. What a wonderful day in San Antonito thanks to Victor.
Great tour guide Victor. Had a wonderful day was very educational. Victor went over and above his duties for us. We will never forget the experience Thank you
Victor knew so many historical facts and still made the tour fun and entertaining! great way to see the history of San Antonio, and Texas in one tour. The tour moves at a great pace with plenty of time to see everything and never feels rushed. He also gave excellent recommendations of other things to do in the city. Highly recommend!!!
I has a wonderful tour with Victor. He was very knowledgeable, informative and friendly. I learned a lot about the Missions and San Antonio history. I also discovered some things I would like to do that I would not have known about without this tour. Victor provided transportation to and from my hotel and provided me with some yummy cookies and ice cold water, which was great in the Texas heat. I highly recommend this tour.
We consider ourselves so fortunate to have had a private tour with Victor! Communications and pick-up/drop off information were flawless. He was passionate and enthusiastic when sharing his knowledge of the missions. He continually checked in with us to make sure we were interested in the topics and the pace was comfortable for us. While driving from one mission to the next, Victor shared bits of local information such as restaurants and "not to miss" tips that were invaluable on the rest of our trip. If we could give this tour operator more than five stars we certainly would!
