Booked the Thompson for my husband’s birthday, and we had an amazing experience from start to finish! We were warmly greeted with champagne, check-in was seamless, and the hotel itself is classy, modern, and beautifully designed. The rooms and bathrooms were lovely, and the toiletries were luxurious. I have allergies to scented products, so I especially appreciated that these didn’t bother me at all! We had a wonderful brunch at The Moon’s Daughter, enjoyed relaxing by the pool at night, and loved the complimentary car service within a 3-mile radius. Such a convenient touch! We also booked a couples massage at the spa. The massages themselves were great, but I found the spa ambience underwhelming. I personally love a darker, more serene spa atmosphere, and the bathrooms felt dated. A little refreshing and rearranging would really help the spa match the beautiful energy of the hotel. It definitely needs a fresh paint and someone to come and make it feel more like a spa and less like a basic shop. Overall, our stay was fantastic. We truly enjoyed our experience and will absolutely be back and will happily recommend the Thompson to others

Cute, trendy hotel. Rooms very clean, everything was nice. The reusable water bottles and water machines on each floor was very convenient to have. We brought young kids, but I don't think families are their target audience. Location was great. Be aware that valet is likely your only parking option and pricey for San Antonio. But valet is very polite and reasonably quick. I have no complaints about our stay.
Dear Thompson Hotel San Antonio, Umm… we need to talk. This may be uncomfortable. I love boutique hotels. Modern. Stylish. Design-forward. Who doesn’t? But here’s the thing: no amount of architectural flair or Instagram-worthy aesthetics can cover up… well… the smell. The lobby, in particular, is breathtaking—and not in a good way. It smells like a Turkish spice market opened inside an abandoned dog food factory. Musky doesn’t even begin to describe it. I’m assuming it’s intentional, but it also feels like a scent chosen by a room full of guys who all nodded and said, “Yeah, that’s sophisticated.” Gentlemen, let your wives handle the scent profile. I understand you’re going for a Mediterranean vibe, but maybe… more Spain, less Syria. Beyond the scent, there’s an ongoing theme of form over function. * If your sink design doesn’t leave room for a proper P-trap, maybe rethink the sink. * If your heavy glass bathroom door can slam into more glass, perhaps a floor-to-ceiling brace is in order. * The pool area is gorgeous… but there were mushrooms growing on the furniture. * Several cabanas had been blown over by the wind, and every remaining one was marked “Reserved” despite sitting empty. * The room itself was very nice overall, but little details matter. Bathroom doors should latch. Door handles should stay firmly attached to the doors they’re attached to. Dining had plenty of potential, too. * Hire another cook or two. Several guests we spoke with commented on the long ticket times. * Use a text notification system. You have an AMAZING balcony with fantastic skyline views. Let guests enjoy it while waiting instead of hovering around the host stand. * Consider an automatic door to the balcony. Watching your servers wrestle a giant, wind-catching door while carrying trays looked like an Olympic event. * Add some shade—or hand out complimentary sunglasses. It’s Texas. You have a west-facing dining room with virtually no protection from the sun. That said… The food was genuinely good. The lady at the front desk… top shelf. Explained everything, very nice, did a great job. And despite all of the above, this really is a nice hotel. I’d absolutely stay again. I would, however, have someone else check in while I sprint through the lobby holding my nose. I may accidentally knock over a few Instagram influencers perfecting their duck face next to the decorative dog bed, but sacrifices must sometimes be made. Cheers, A Recent Guest
The rooms were great, modern decorations. There was a mix up with one of the other guests and when they were checking out, they wrote down our room number instead of theirs, and the manager thought our room was empty so he opened the door without knocking. I was naked so it was a bit embarrassing. Other than that, it's a nice stay. One of the best in San Antonio.
My friends and I recently stayed at Thompson San Antonio Riverwalk and honestly had one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us with kindness, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a suite, and the room was beautiful, comfortable, clean, and relaxing. One of my friends is pregnant, so the hotel staff kindly brought us a cot at no extra charge so everyone could be comfortable. That level of thoughtfulness really meant a lot to us. The valet staff were also incredible throughout our stay. I drove my 1999 Toyota Century, which is a rare luxury vehicle, and they treated it with care and respect the entire time. They even kept it parked in a shaded area and remembered us whenever we returned. As someone who deeply cares about their vehicle, I truly appreciated how safe and well cared for it felt during our stay. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant, room service, and the overall atmosphere of the property. Everyone from housekeeping to valet to the front desk made us feel welcomed and relaxed. Even when the hotel was busy, the staff remained kind and professional.
