Great location loved being across from the discovery district. We stayed 5 nights recently and the hotel is old. Probably needs an update. Rooms are dark and outdated somewhat. It's clean. Beds and linens were comfy and room was bigger than I expected. Staff was helpful but sloe to bring items up that were requested like extra towels ect. Overall we'd go back. The neighborhoods not the best, but didnt feel unsafe. Its like any city you go one block over and theres a lot of homeless folks. I wouldn't feel safe walking around at night personally though.

Hard to believe that the once delightful Magnolia hotel has declined so much. While still on the pricey end, the accommodations are sad. The room was clean but dark and tattered. Worn out furniture, window coverings, tile, sheets, mattress, pillows - all need replacing. The shower had decent water pressure but only lukewarm water. The AC though worked great! No bar, no restaurant, no comfort.
Nice historic building. Love the view from my room on 11th floor; with multiple side view of the city. The bedroom is deep/away from the hotel hallway; no noise from other hotel guest. However, there are still street noises with those car who has modified engine, buses on the weekday morning, unavoidable in the downtown area. AC is central controlled and not super strong; it gets cooler in the middle of the night. The biggest problem is internet. I cannot see the wifi at the hotel room; when I moved my devices, laptop, phone and kindle, near the door, they can see the wifi but not connect to anywhere. I have to go to lobby to check emails, make calls and everything requires internet; that means, unavoidable background noises. I only get away by downloading as much files as I need so that I can do some work in my own room. Good thing is that I only here for 2 nights. I may give 1 star if I am here for one week.
I stayed here for three nights, and honestly, the experience was unacceptable. The room was incredibly dark — no surprise, since the shades had apparently been left closed permanently. When I tried to open them, only one of them would actually move, and then I understood why they probably preferred to keep them closed: the windows were absolutely filthy and completely cloudy. The window frames and seals were also in terrible condition — old, deteriorated, and in desperate need of renovation. The bed was extremely hard and felt worn out. When I first entered the room, it was also unbearably warm. When I turned on the AC it only worked on the highest setting, at which point it was so loud that sleeping with it on was basically impossible. It also ran continuously rather than cycling on and off to maintain the temperature. But turning it off made the room unbearably hot. There were also some very strange noises coming from the room throughout my stay. The bathroom was okay, but not particularly clean. There were numerous dirty splashes and stains on the wall around the sink. The hair dryer was honestly disgusting — sticky and dirty. I genuinely don't understand how something in that condition can be left in a room for guests. To make matters worse, my room was never cleaned during my entire three-night stay. At check-in, I was given a notice explaining the housekeeping policy and was told that I could request room cleaning at the front desk. I did so twice, and nobody ever came. When I called the front desk on the second evening to complain, the only response I received was, “I apologize.” An apology is nice, but at that point I would have appreciated an actual solution or some form of compensation much more. Overall, this was a very disappointing stay, especially considering the price per night. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel.
Very disappointing and not worth the stay We were extremely disappointed with our stay at the Magnolia Hotel in Dallas. From the moment we checked in, there were major concerns. The hotel had a very old, run-down feeling, and our first room was on the top floor, which honestly made us feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. The condition of the building and hallway made it feel like the hotel was falling apart. The room itself was also very disappointing. There was a very gross, musty/mucky smell coming from the AC, and the AC barely worked. The sheets did not appear clean, the toilet was stained, and overall the room did not feel properly maintained or hygienic. The poor air quality and lack of functioning AC also made it difficult for me to breathe, which was especially concerning because I have asthma. To their credit, the customer service staff were helpful when we brought up our concerns and did move us to a lower floor. However, unfortunately, the overall condition of the hotel did not improve enough for us to feel comfortable staying there. We were in Dallas for a trip and had an early flight the following morning, so we ultimately decided that we could not risk staying there and went to look for another hotel. We left the Magnolia and stayed elsewhere because we simply did not feel safe, comfortable, or satisfied with the condition of the property. What made the experience even more frustrating was that we were told we would not receive a refund because of the way the reservation was booked, despite the fact that we left specifically because of the condition of the hotel and room. We were not leaving because our plans changed — we were leaving because we did not feel the hotel was suitable to stay in. Overall, we were very disappointed. While the staff we dealt with were courteous and did try to help, the cleanliness, condition of the property, smell, ineffective AC, and lack of resolution regarding the refund made this a very poor experience. I would not stay here again and would recommend looking elsewhere, especially if cleanliness and feeling comfortable and safe are priorities
