Tangier Excursion: Day Trip With Private Tour Guide

Great trip for our small family group. We enjoyed the balance of the drive and walking tours and learned a lot about the culture and history of Tangier. The restaurant recommended was a great highlight with wonderful food and music.

Such a great experience, this is our second trip with Hamid, lots to see and do. Food was amazing, great service and music. We will be back and Hamid is our go to guy. Fantastic!!!

This was great, we went in the afternoon and had dinner. We made it in time to see the sunset over Cap Spartel. Our trip was delayed and the guide and driver were super kind to wait for us. Highly recommend. Bonus: wild boar piglets

We had a wonderful time on our tour with Hamid. Communication before the tour was excellent and Hamid met us as soon as we got off our cruise ship. What was different and wonderful, was the fact that Hamid had an assistant to take of the driving and parking the car while Hamid could focus on taking us to see the sites and not lose time searching for parking. Hamid adjusted our schedule so that we saw some of the key sites in Tangier such as Cap Sparkle before all the crowds and tour buses arrived. He also arranged a camel ride for our group on the beach, once again before the crowds arrived and this was so much fun and a hilite of our time on our cruise.I must add, the calls appeared very well looked after and all reacted to the verbal commands of the handler, who also took photos of us riding the camels. After the driving to the key locations, the driver took us to the Kasbah and Hamid took us through a wonderful walking tour of the Kasbah and the Medina along with the markets. We walked through the narrow alleys and got to see the real markets and a wonderful feel for Tangier. It seemed everywhere we went, someone knew Hamid and would embrace him or say hello. Hamid was extremely knowledgeable and informative regarding Tangier and Morocco. At the end of our walking tour, our car and driver were waiting and took us back to the cruise terminal. We had a excellent 3-hour private tour of Tangier with Hamid and would highly recommend him. He shared fascinating historical information and also offered cultural insights into modern day Morocco. We saw the Casbah, Medina, and other sights that he was glad to customize for our unique interests, including those related to the Jewish history of Tangier. He was glad to answer any questions we had along the way with his usual energy and charm. Hamid met us right on time outside the ferry station and when the tour ended helped us get back to the ferry. Wonderful day trip to Tangiers with our guide Mohammad. We stopped for a gorgeous views, to see the lighthouse, the markets, and shopped for beautiful rugs. Highly recommend. Tangier was a hidden gem. I did not go in with any expectations but the place, history, the friendly people changed all that. Our tour guide Mariam was beyond amazing, she was very knowledgeable and friendly. It felt like we were on a tour with someone we knew for a long time. If you like to know about a beautiful culture, experience great cuisine and wander around the modern and the old Medina of Tangier, this is definitely a tour to do. I would highly recommend this tour and would definitely book them again next time I am in Morocco.

Hamid is the consummate tour guide and facilitator! We had a private tour with just our family group of seven, with three of us going on to Casablanca and four of us returning to Tarife, Spain. Even with this split destination at the end of the tour he handled everything while still giving us a superb insider’s look at the beautiful city and people of Tangier. This was a day to remember as he and a driver first took us through several areas in Tangier, giving us the history behind many buildings and key points of interest. You can tell in an instant he knows how to take care of his guests. Everywhere we went the other tour guides all know him and greeted him warmly because he is legendary!! We spent the first part of the tour riding in a comfortable tour van, had a wonderful unhurried light breakfast, rode camels above the beach, then began a walking tour through the old town and casbah that is Tangier. Lunch was amazing with all kinds of Moroccan dishes that just kept coming. We can’t say enough about Hamid and the wonderful tour he led us on today. My wife and I are are hosts of the Outlander Society travel club. In this case we are on the beautiful Explora II We plan private group trips / shore excursions throughout our 19 day cruise. We have been working with Upscale for months for the perfect small group "foodie & cutlure" tour (12 pax) , which was supposed to have been Monday Oct 13, 2024. On Thursday the 9th, the ship had to change the itinerary due to bad weather and we were moved to be in Tangier the next day Friday 10th! Unbelievably, Hamid was accommodate this major change (especially with 12 people going to breakfast and lunch), and port access license so that he could pick us up directly by the ship. By all accounts, it has been the best tour of the trip! Hamid even accommodated our guest with a mobility scooter. His English is great, and his knowledge of the area unmatched. We rode camels, and saw every major highlight and iconic stop, including mint tea at cafe tangis. I highly recommend Upscale Tours in Tangier!

We were met by Hamid and his driver just outside our cruise ship and settled into a comfortable air-conditioned van. The first part of our tour was a drive throughout the Tangier area. I particularly enjoyed seeing where the viewpoint where the Atlantic and Mediterranean merged together. The second part of the tour was a strategically planned walk from the Kasbah to the Medina ending with the Petit Souk. Hamid's driver dropped us off where we could enjoy the leisurely downhill stroll and then picked us up at the bottom of the old town. Hamid was very polite, attentive and knowledgeable, explaining history and pertinent information about Tangier. He made it a point to show us something local such as a tasty Moroccan coffee. Hamid is a great host - make no mistake, this is not merely a guided tour, it’s a presentation with deep affection for his clients and the place where he lives. We had our tour much shortened due to circumstances well beyond any preparation but Hamid was still keen to give us a great experience. We’re so grateful that we still had a chance to experience some of what Tangier has to offer.

Hamid, our tour guide, met us at the pier on time. Gave us an overview of the city and culture as we drove or walked that day in Tangier. We experienced first hand a delicious Moroccan light breakfast and amazing lunch. The highlight of the tour was meeting the town baker. His job was to bake the prepared foods of each household. Hamid has been offering tours for over 35 years and his experience shined.

Our Tangier food tour was the highlight of our Portugal/Spain/Morocco trip. We only had a short time available, so we could only do a day trip walking tour which took about 5.5 hours. Mohammed was there to meet us with the driver when we exited the ferry building. They gave us a brief driving tour throughout the city, pointing out historical sites and points of interest. Our main goal was to be off the beaten path, out of the tourist areas, and Mohammed fully delivered that for us. We had breakfast tea and snacks in an urban/working neighborhood where a few police officers had just been finishing up their breakfast snack. Then we walked through city streets and open air markets lining the streets where there were no other tourists to be seen. The markets had a variety of everyday items and beautiful grocery stands including any type of olive imaginable. He took us to a fantastic tiny soup shop tucked away in a local neighborhood with the best pea soup and tasty bread. Then in another nearby tiny restaurant, we tried some sugarcane juice as we watched the open air kitchen prepare their food (that looked so good and would have really liked to try if there were time). On our way back to the casbah, we huddled outside a busy restaurant savoring these fried dough chicken puffs, similar to a cross between an empanada and a samosa. We then made our way back to the casbah to wind through the tiny streets, take some photos with stunning tile work and architecture, check out gorgeous rugs, walk through the museum, and try some more foods. Here we tasted some star fruit, and then to lunch. There were some other tourists in the lunch location, but it did not feel super touristy. Mohammed said it was a place he came with his dad when young. The food was all so delicious. We then went down to the spice shop where they demonstrated the quality of their spices and other oils/products for sale (be aware if your smell sensitive that this made be overwhelming). Then we made our way back to the ferry port (the line to load going home on the 4pm boat was very long, but we got on!) Mohammed was super knowledgeable about his city and its culinary treasures. He was often greeted by friends passing by saying hello. He was very easy-going and funny. Such a great trip that even though I forgot to do the review until now many months later, I felt I still needed to write it. Thank you for a great trip!

A wonderful day trip into the beautiful city of Tangier. There is no better way to get a comprehensive view of the city, it’s various neighbourhood, the culture and the history of Tanger by someone who is from the city and cares for it. Wow, Hamid was outstanding. We pre-arranged a trip from Rabat to Tangier on the train and me our guide, Hamid at the train station. We had about 5 hours to do the tour to make our train back to Rabat. The logistics and tour were fantastic. The knowledge, skill, and information was a 10+. We had a private driver the entire time and we got to see so many outstanding sights. I learned so much about the Berber people and their history. If you are looking for a tour operator, look no further.

We spent the day with Hamid and it was wonderful! He recommended things we should see and also personalized it to things we wanted to do. He showed us beautiful places in Tangier, we had a great food tour, and went shopping in the most unique places. We highly recommend this company. Tangier wouldn’t have been the same without it.

What an amazing day with Hamid! I knew I didn’t want to attempt Morocco alone with my two teens, and I’m so thankful I decided to book his tour. He showed us all the best spots of Tangier, first by car, then by foot. When he realized we love cats, he made sure we saw every cat in town (there are a lot!). He brought us to a delicious restaurant that gave us an opportunity to eat authentic Moroccan food that even my less than adventurous eater teens loved. At the end of our tour he brought us to all the best shops and helped me find a specific item my mother requested I purchase for her, and then made sure I didn’t pay the first offered price (you have to haggle!) On our ferry ride home we heard from several other people that their guides felt “scammy” and our experience couldn’t have been further from that. 10/10 experience and I would absolutely book this tour again.

We had such a great, and a perfectly full day with Hamid! We felt like we were with a celebrity guide as everyone knew him and were happy to help him and us, but never in an overwhelming way. He let us pick and choose things we wanted to do and what we might skip. I was especially grateful for his and Moustafa’s (driver) consideration of my 78 year old mother as we navigated the city streets, she had a wonderful time and we wouldn’t have felt as confident without Hamid, or learned as much from his impressive knowledge. Had an all day private tour with Ali Tangier tours today. Our tour guides name is fouad and our driver was moustafa. It was just me and my friend. No one else which gave this tour a very personal touch. Can’t say enough about this tour. It covered all the main highlights of the city and included some personal requests as well. Fouad was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The owner of Ali Tangier tour met us after lunch to thank us for taking his tour. By the end of the day we felt as if we were travelling with family. I would recommend this tour in a heartbeat. What an incredible experience!

Mr Hamid And his crew are fantastic at what they do 100% recommend you will not be let down at all. We got to see all the top sites and the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the city which made our time very pleasurable.

I really enjoyed my time on this tour. It was my first full day as a single female traveler in Morocco and would recommend it to anyone. My guide was thorough, kind, smart and incredibly informative. It was like he was the mayor of Tangier - everybody knew him! I learned so much about the city, region and country and felt safe the entire day. Of course, there is a shopping element to this type of tour where you are shown a locale where you can shop for goods but nobody was pushy and the experience yielded clean toilets and tea. I did many a tour on this vacation and this was definitely a highlight. Thank you!

Our guide, Nabil, provided a wonderful tour of Chefchaouen (the blue city) and Tangier. We were able to experience all of the "instagram" sites in Chefchaouen and get our pictures. This is a "hilly" city. To see the Rift mountains as we drove to Tangier was delightful. In Tangier we visited the Hercules's Cave , the Light house and the medina. We ate a great meal in a local restaurant, the same one Nabil and his family use. It was one of the best meals we had in Morocco. Nabil guided us through the souk. The shopping was exactly what we wanted to experience. An A+ for Nabil and another for Tangier and Chefchaouen.

Hamid is an excellent guide with a vast amount of knowledge of the area and its' history. I would definitely recommend wearing comfortable shoes to get around to the different locations.
