From Tangier: Chefchaouen Day Trip With Local Guide

We had a fantastic experience! The tour was safe, well-organised and thoroughly enjoyable. Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and spoke very good English. The tour company also did a wonderful job communicating and coordinating everything with us well in advance, ensuring everything went smoothly. We highly recommend this tour and would happily do it again!

We had a great experience. The minibus was comfortable with WiFi and water. The guide shared some good information and we also had time to explore by ourselves.

A magnificent city with the mystic feelings and deep beauty inside… A full day trip from Tangier… Exquisite Cafés and restaurants which added authentic journey into the turquoise old quarter.. We indulged ourselves also culinarily and enjoyed walks through the bazaar! The van trip was pleasant and well organized!

Great communication and pick up/drop off from hotel ! Every thing was organized and guides were so friendly. We had a lot of fun thank you to all for a memorable experience.

The tour company did a wonferful job coordinating with us prior to the tour. They messaged the day before and followed up with the driver's name, number, and van license plate along with thorough meeting instructions. Our driver Younes was wonderful and navigated the Moroccan traffic well. There was a stop about 50 mins from Chefchaouen with food and bathrooms but note this is a very busy stopping point! Our tour guide Nagim in Chefchaouen was great! He walked at a reasonable pace allowing time to explore the streets while also offering insights about the city and it's history, as well as Muslim culture in Morocco. Our group was reasonably sized (~12 people) so it was easy to hear and ask questions. Warning - the bus arrives to Chefchaouen around 12:00 and you do not get a lunch break for 2 more hours. Suggest bringing snacks and having a large breakfast first. After 2 hours for lunch and exploring, we headed back to Tangier which felt like perfect timing for the day. Again, there was a shorter break stop on the way back, plus a lovely scenic overlook. Overall we had a lovely day trip to Chefchaouen and the views were incredible!!

The pick up spot was convenient for us, the driver was very nice, the drive was long we stopped half way for 15 minutes enough time for toilet and quick snack. The pit stop was very busy but has an amazing view. The tour guid was great. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly and engaging. The group was good amount of people. Had plenty of time after tour to have a look around and get food before drive back. We stopped on hill top for great sun set pictures. Overall great money worth enjoyable day trip.

I was not expecting to be pick up right in front of my AirBnB but I got a text the day before letting me know that they would. The two hour ride was comfortable and the driver was safe. He made sure we knew how long it would be including stops and he gave us water and the WiFi code. Once we arrived our tour guide met us and took us through the beautiful city while giving us some information about the history and culture. It is a very photogenic city! I like that we had a couple of hours of free time to explore alone. I do wish that we had more than one food recommendation but the place she recommended was tasty. We stopped in Tangier on the ride back to get nice pictures of the sunset.

Tour included pick up in Tangier at our hotel. Very nice Benz sprinter. Separate tour guide gave us 2 hour tour of the blue city. Everything was very nice. Only reason I did not give this tour 5 stars was because the guide did not use the several hours in the van to talk about Morocco or Tangier or anything. A missed opportunity. I would still recommend this tour.

Chefchaouen is a beautiful city to visit on a day trip. The van worked well, and our guide did a great job

The drive through the Rif mountains was spectacular enough, but to arrive in this city in the hills, covered in the glorious colors of blue took my breath away. A village filled with kitties, spices, fruit and warm and friendly people made the day a 10+. Our driver was safe and courteous, out tour guide funny and informative. This part of the "world" surpassed my expectations.

Omar our driver did a great job navigating the roads and Omar our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and had a great sense of humour

The tour operator gave us timely info about driver and car aswell as pick up time and point Pickedus up from Port and dropped us back in good time to get back on thecruise ship. Transport was air conditioned, water provided and driver was safe. Blue City (Chefchauan) ws brilliant ,guide was great and we had a good 2 and a half hours to ourselves too. The time from arriving to leaving was 4 hrs

Visiting Blue City is lovely experience Respect the locals and enjoy the beautiful city There are lovely houses decorated for nice pictures Some of the beautiful houses people contribute some money is not mandatory but because the locals use their money to maintain

The trip was nice, although for us too much time was given for exploring after lunch. Others may disagree. The guide was informative and amiable and the blue city is very prettty and charming. Overall it was a good experience that we enjoyed.

From the start of our journey, we found a really nice team regarding the organisation of the tour. People were assigned in different buses, each of them having numerous stops in order to pick up people from their acommodation. Our bus was driven by Abdul and Adil, who always make sure we were comfortablr and happy! If we come back to Morocco, we won't doubt to choose Xauen Tours again!!

Quite a long drive to destination but comfort stop with views of dam/ lake . Driver Houssam was lovely & was very skilful especially with rush hour traffic back in Tangier . Actual tour with local guide in Chefchaouen seemed a rushed hour & I felt he didn’t really connect with our group of 15 . We had 3 hours to explore on our own . Be prepared as it’s very touristy although photogenic .

This was a fantastic adventure! We enjoyed every second of it, and highly recommend! If I could give it 10 stars I would. Abdul was very organized and made the trip entertaining. He made sure everyone (for all languages) understood, and kept the energy up. Nordin Was fantastic as well, and a very safe driver! They both made the drive and day tour amazing, and we are very grateful!!!

It was a fun drive down panoramic road. The blue city was dreamy and its people were welcoming. Abdul and Ahmed were great guide and driver, respectively. I would do it again. Highly recommended..

It’s a long day. 10 Hours. But the blue city is worth it! We skipped the guided tour in blue city and did our own thing for the 4 hours! The drivers were great!! Abdul and 1 more!

We were left disappointed with this tour. Our guide was friendly, but unfortunately, not very informative. After the tour ended, we found ourselves having to research the places we visited to learn more about their history and significance. At each stop, we felt rushed to take a few pictures and move on, rather than having the opportunity to truly enjoy and appreciate the experience. Additionally, there were tourist traps everywhere, which took away from the authenticity of the places we were hoping to experience.

A beautiful town! Very nice, polite, professional driver and guide. This was a very basic drive with no information along along the way and no interesting stops as I'd expected. The stops were at coffee shops/restaurants with a view. The itinerary made it sound like the stops would be locations of interest and possibly we'd learn something about the area...history, nature, culture...this was pretty much a ride to and from chefchaouen with a 2 hour simple overview of the city....so , just average.

The tour is a well-oiled machine and worked like clockwork. We were picked up first, at the communicated time, before picking up others and driving for around an hour until a short rest stop halfway between Tangier and Chefchaouen. When we got to Chefchouaen, we were left in the very capable hands of a local guide. The pace of the tour was relaxed, with plenty of opportunities to take photos (which I would recommend taking advantage of while you are with the guide as returning to instagrammable places is harder without the guide than it looks!). Towards the end of the tour there is an opportunity to replace empty water bottles with freshwater from the local spring, which was an added treat. We then had lunch at a restaurant recommended by the guide, and time to walk around ourselves to check out the markets. Depending on what you want most out of the experience, I wished we had spent less time eating and more time exploring and taking photos, but that comes down to personal time management. At 4 pm we left to return to Tangier to stop briefly to take in a panoramic view of the city. The van then dropped us off where it had picked us up. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and worth every penny

This only reason I have even given this tour a 2 star was the friendly driver who drove us there and back. He was polite and patient and I really couldn’t fault him. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case for the tour guide that showed us around. I found him to be very impatient and rushed us through the whole experience. I came with my parents who are not as fast on their feet but are still very mobile. The guide would race ahead and wouldn’t even wait for the whole group before talking about parts of the city. Enough was enough when we came to the last stop where he’d already spoken to the whole group about where and when to get the transport back and already keen on collecting his tips. It was only a kind couple on the same tour as us told us this information. You won’t be surprised to know that we did not give him a tip. I did not get the name of the guide but our tour was on 29th June. I don’t feel we actually got to experience the blue city in all its glory and sadly will not be recommending this tour group. If you are looking for a day tour which doesn’t feel like a conveyor belt, then I’d book with someone else.

In the end, the goal was achieved. We made it to Chefchauouen and back. Our driver did his job. Our host only communicated stops and times to board while sleeping for the majority of the drive. Based on the reviews of this experience, we expected some level of professional interaction as one review stated their driver "gave lots of information along the way." We received no information. Additionally, the van was incredibly hot. At each stop, it was not missed on us that passengers were sweating through their shirts. The AC was blowing air; however, it was not cool air. On a tour in late June, we really needed cold air. If you get car sick easily, please be aware that this could be an issue. Our stops, while serving the purpose of cooling off and using the toilets, seemed to more self-serving for the driver and host than the tour participants. Both times, we were ready to continue but waited for them to finish their coffees/drinks. I'm sure there is some incentive for us to stop at these locations (i.e., free coffee and food for tour drivers and hosts). The tour guide in Chefchauouen was knowledgeable and attentive. He spent 100 minutes with our group. Be prepared to make several stops at local businesses to receive the store owners' sales pitches. While the carpets were beautiful, we left during the pitch because our time was limited on the tour and there was more we wanted to see of the city. While this final note is not targeted at the tour company, it is important for tour participants to have small change available when traveling to Chefchauouen. The public restrooms are not free. It is expected that you tip for the service (2 dH per person). Finally, we had a terrific lunch in the Chefchauouen center. However, our plates were removed as soon as we finished our final bites and we were asked to pay to make room for the waiting guests. One of the employees apologized to use and said his boss was "money hungry" for rotating in as many patrons as possible. We saw Chefchauouen. In hindsight, I would not dedicate a full day to this tour.

Initial issue at pick up (completely our error as went with wrong vehicle with very similar license plate… 😬) but Xauen discovered it immediately and correct it for everyone. Host Abdul and driver was great and tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive, going above and beyond helping us find vendors in city as well as restaurant recommendations. Will definitely book with Xauen again.

Loved it. Good length of time. Nice combo of learning from our guide and having some free time to explore. Do this. No real reason to stay overnight in Chefchaouen.

It's a long ride to Chefchaouen. The bus was comfortable, and the driver was smooth and careful. The town itself is lovely, and the local tour guide gave us lots of history and local color. After a two hour walking tour, we were on our own, and it was lovely to have lunch with others from the group (among other things, nice to have easy conversation, with no language barrier!). Chefchaouen may be "newly famous", but that just makes it a more typical Moroccan town, albeit one that has found a way to stand out. It's a great trip not because of the blue paint, but because the guide was authentic.

Great tour - driver arrived on time, bus was clean and had AC and WiFi. Stop on journey was just right as was tine in city - part with a local guide, who was excellent and the other free time. We were delivered back at the exact time we were told we would be. Highly recommended - the blue city is gorgeous - I was expecting it to be tacky but it was very tasteful!

i’ll start by saying that it was cool to see the blue city in person. That being said i don’t know that it was worth 9 hours of a day in Morocco. Pick up was timely at hotel and ride was a nice bus although the AC didn’t work. The driver didn’t say a word on the 2 1/2 hour ride there or 2 1/2 hour ride back. No points of interest, no history not a word which made the ride seem that much longer. The ride was scenic through the RIF mountains but not for 5 hours! The were 2 pit stops along the way that were billed as photo stops (They seemed more like tourist traps to sell you food/drinks ect. I get it, the blue city is a distance from Tangier but the ride could certainly have been more entertaining. Most of my bus didn’t speak english but we were paired with a local guide when we arrived who’s english was a bit better. We had about 2 hours to kill after the local tour before the bus pick up so we walked around and grabbed a bite to eat. This too could have been cut shorter as just about everyone on our bus was back 30 minutes before it arrived. Cool to see but prepare for a long day!

The tour was excellent 👌 the city is beautiful. Also the guide mohammed was knowledgeable and friendly. The driver was polite. Highly recommended.

My partner and I really enjoyed Xauen tours! Shoutout to Yusuf, his personality made the experience even better. Would recommend to anyone visiting.

It’s a long day but worth it. The city is beautiful, very clean and has an interesting story. The guide was excellent and the driver was also very good.

Our driver Youseff was excellent. Gave lots of information along the way. Van is very comfortable and has a/c and WiFi. Our local guide was also great. Took us through many alleyways, informed us about the city and culture, and made good lunch recommendations. Highly recommended.

A lot of walking around the old town with a 2 hour drive each way (but with short stops). Entry to the casbah is at your own expense Driver Youssef was very good - positive and entertaining

The driver"Adil" is just amazing, the driveway is safe, the scenery is mind blowing, the city Chefchaouen "the blue city" is beautiful, in all, I will very much recommend this day trip to friends and family

Assad our driver was so lovely. All in all a nice day out but a very long drive for a very small place. The gift at the end is so cute and will always give you a momentum to think back on this day out!

Prior to the tour the organisation is first class, clear instructions, communication and the pick up was bang on time. Our driver Omar was very good, both in his driving skills and communication. The tour itself, both content and the guide (Najib) in Chefchauen were also very good, entertaining sense of humour. No grumbles, & definitely recommend 👍

Driver was punctual when picking us up, our guide was FANTASTIC, really good facts about the area, history & insights. We walked at an excellent pace, enough time for pictures. Our group got closer towards the end of the trip & it was a lovely experience. Rest stop to & fron were well needed & at a decent stopping point too. Would highly recommend!

It’s great. I am glad I went on a tour because alone you will be not only lost but you won’t know all the ins and outs . We had the greatest guide Nofal. Definitely recommend this tour. I just wished it would’ve been a little longer so instead finishing at 4 it could’ve finished at 6 and we would’ve been in Tangier at 9. Just a longer day. Marvelous city.
