I travel between Helsinki and Tallinn almost every week, mainly for business, and always book lounge access. My journeys are usually peaceful and comfortable, and the schedule suits me very well, especially the 7:30 morning departure on Megastar. MyStar is also a lovely ship. Both feel more modern than the Viking Line and Eckerö Line ships I have travelled on, however it is more expensive. Unfortunately, my recent experience with customer service has really changed how I feel about Tallink. Following changes to the loyalty programme and a misunderstanding about the renewal deadline, my Gold membership was downgraded. I contacted customer service to explain and ask for some flexibility, but the replies felt robotic and impersonal. I came away feeling that nobody had really considered my circumstances or valued my continued loyalty. My two-star rating mainly reflects this disappointing customer service experience. I still enjoy the ships and the convenience, but a little understanding would have made a big difference.

The cruise ship was amazing! Lots of space, many restos, and 2 floors of shopping paradise. Left and arrived on time. Very convenient if you dont have much time.
The time in Helsinki is limited so plan your trip accordingly. The city has many interesting places to see.
Was nice, recommended, looking forward to travelling with them again
the admission fee was good, very reasonable for the ship. the ship had good shops too, which was important cause cruises i’d been on before were expensive. crowd size is where it falls a bit short. i understand its summer but it was packed, there were hardly any seats. the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice when we could actually find a chair. an overall good experience.
The cruise was great. Plenty of comfortable places to sit watch the waves and lots of options for food or shopping. The only problem I had was I went on a Sunday. Most of Helsinki is closed on Sunday. So, we missed the markets but still did the wonderful museum.
Very easy check in and a wonderful day in Helsinki. Boat is very clean with different areas and services. I would highly recommend it if you want to spend a few hours in the Finnish capital
Great opportunity to see a bit of Helsinki from Talinn. Ship had loads of facilities, check-in and boarding were easy. Tram to the city leaves from right outside the Helsinki terminal. About £40 for the ferry ride (foot passenger) Really enjoyed the day. Address for the 2 terminals should be clearer, especially for the Helsinki side. Port of Helsinki doesn’t take you to the ferry port!
We boarded the cruise ship like locals. Spent 2 hours enjoying the Baltic sun and then had a blast in Helsinki. Came back to the same spot and boarded the cruise again. It was an AMAZING experience! Highly recommended!
I bought some meatballs and mashed potatoes for my child, and it cost €16—completely pointless mash made from powder. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Be careful when booking a car space, because the website specifies certain dimensions, but on-site they measure the car precisely; if you are off by even 1 cm, you’ll have to pay a significant extra charge.
Great experience, easy to check-in automatically inside the Tallin passanger terminal D.
The ship is brand new, plenty of restaurant and bars, a beautiful coven garden and comfortable seats. Really great staff and great deals on board!
Terminal very easy to find from Tallinn, remember what port you arrive at in Helsinki, as there are a few. Sailed on the Megastar and it was incredible, many restaurants and shops felt more like a cruise.
Just reviewing the cruise alone both the terminals in Tallin & Helsinki were spacious, clean and easy to navigate. Had a coffee shop to get refreshments while you waiting to board. Boarding was organised and people boarded in an orderly fashion. There was help for passangers that needed assistance, with lifts available to get you up to the boarding level. Once onboard the ship you have several different decks to choose from. The catering was excelent. From basic food choices to fine dining experiences depending on time of travel. The seating differed slightly on the different decks. There were seats where you could relax and recline to get some sleep. On the one deck you had a vast shopping store where you could purchase almost anything. For the smokers there was a dedicated smoking area away from the rest of the passangers. These ships not only carried people but cars, vans & lorries. And once docked the loading & unloading of the vechicles was very quick. For only a 2 hour crossing these ships are well equiped and the staff look after them well. But not only do the staff take pride in there ship but they look after there passangers just as well. As we passengers help keep then in a job and the business a float.
very slick service, all on time great facilities and very good price
A fantastic experience! The crossing was super comfortable and flew by! The ship is equipped with absolutely everything you need: bars, restaurants, casinos, etc. IMPORTANT: boarding closes 20 minutes BEFORE departure. After that, you can no longer board the ship. This was NOT made clear enough on the website. I arrived just in the nick of time and was told that if I’d been a minute later, I wouldn’t have been able to board the ship. This really needs to be highlighted.
Great experience but please be there 45 to 1 hour before. Boarding is 20 min before departure. And sometimes, it is not easy to find the Gate.
We chose this ferry service for its reliability and simple booking procedure and weren't disappointed. Departing ferry terminal D you will be provided with a booking ref and security code by trip advisor which you need to put into one of the many check in machines to obtain your tickets before sailing. You may then walk the short distance to the embarkation lounge. The ferry is modern, well equipped with lots of seating, shops and cafes. The journey takes around 2hours and was very calm. You arrive at the Helsinki West pier. On arrival there was no security/border check this time. There are trams and buses to the centre which can be paid for on the vehicle. The return ferry departed on time and check in was simple.
Great experience overall. Can be clearer on where and how to get boarding ticket in Tallinn eg which floor which counter looking for who.
Excellent ferry. From the Trip Advisor instructions you need the reference and PIN number to access the tickets at the terminal (not really clear on the information provided). Make sure you get there early as the gates close 15 mins before the departure time.
Do not book with Viator. I changed the time of my crossing, they told me it was actioned but was only actually actioned after I was refused boarding and I brought it to their attention. They have since claimed that I am lying and they had changed the time - despite the check in desk showing me their screen with the incorrect time. Support are unhelpful and keen to pass the buck. Book direct with the travel company and avoid these scammers at all costs. I will never book with Viator again.
I was in Helsinki for a day & this tour gave a wonderful overview of this beautiful city. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, enriching the experience & provided a great insight into Finnish culture, history & way of life.
Fantastic cruise ship. So many things to do on board. Definitely recommend this. Gives you enough time in Helsinki to do a proper walking tour and then come to Tallinn.
The tour was fantastic! Zane, who is not only knowledgeable, but passionate about Helsinki and the people here, did an excellent job! I couldn't have asked for a better tour guide to get me acquainted with Helsinki.
Day trip from Tallinn to Helsinki, worked out great! Good price, the MS Megastar was great vessel. Very quick and efficient way to cross the Baltic.
Great day out to Helsinki! Fabulous boat with many food options and shopping opportunities! Definitely worth it. Only thing would be to include a bus tour on top!
Great ferries, nice food, very comfortable. Could have done with a free map of Helsinki like you get in the tourist board though!
Perfect organized check in, good food options during cruise, big store with food, drink, alkohol, fashion and souvenirs.
Fantastic service on Megastar! - lovely clean ferry terminal, punctual sailings, comfortable seating areas, bars with table service and a good selection of activities and on board shopping!
Booked this as we wanted to see Helsinki, this is a cost effective way to do so. The ferry was clean and had lots of space to sit. It was on time for each journey. It allows for ample time to explore the city and is therefore recommended.
A smooth ferry crossing between Tallinn & Helsinki. Ample of food and drink choices to purchase, and are of fresh quality. The ferry itself is vast, clean and comfortable. Friendly service from the crew.
One of the most amazing ferries I've been on. So clean and comfortable. The shopping was extensive and there were plenty of good food / drink options. We went in October and had a smooth crossing.
Lovely ferry across between the two islands. Got everything you need on there, shops. Bars. Restaurants, seating areas everywhere, charging points, list goes on. Just be early!!! Boarding stops 20 minutes before time on your ticket, and our trip they didn't hang around and went 15 mins early. Easy ports to manage. Uber and walking distances. Can't fault it. Great quality for price.
The check in process is quite straight forward. You cannot use the self service machines, and so have to go to the support desk to get your codes before using the self service machine to get your actual tickets. The ferry I took was Megastar. It was spacious, clean, had friendly staff and was an overall smooth journey. The food is a bit pricey but you can always take food with you. You are also advised to get to the terminal no later than 45 minutes before your ferry is due to part. I got there an hour before departure time and had to wait another 30 minutes before we could board. The journey lasted 2 hours. You can go on the Sun deck for some great views of the Baltic Sea. Overall, a fantastic experience and very reasonably priced.
I booked tickets for August 8 The email confirmation had that date on the return from Helsinki my ticket would not work Upon opening the PDF the tickets were for August 7 so I had to purchase a return ticket b I sent a note to tour operator but no reply So half the trip was fine The other half not so much
I traveled to Tallinn for a day cruise. There were much people. I heard different languages as Japan and French. There were many finns too. The City of Tallinn was as before crowded and several way repairs. Nice.
The ferries were new, nice, comfortable. The ride was smooth. The Buffett was delicious and a good value.
The Megastar ship is fabulous! I recommend booking the business lounge for a really first class experience. Not crowded, great food and facilities, and attentive staff. Made for a terrific day trip to Tallinn.
I was very disappointed by this tour. The ferry is new, modern and clean, beautiful. I cannot complain about that. Unfortunately, the communication and information aren't sufficient. The headline of our tour was 7:30 to 21:30 so we thought 21:30 is the time of our departure for Tallinn and not 19:30 which isn't mentioned in the voucher or description. You have to open a PDF ticket to find this info or maybe the lady at the desk should let you know but at first, she told us she doesn't know this voucher so she won't be able to give us tickets... She was arrogant and not helpful at all. We missed our ferry and would have to pay an extra 71€ for the new ride by this ferry. Eventually, we took a ferry from a different company for 43€ per 2 people. And in the end, they didn't give us even a refund or apologize.
AWESOME Trip -Beautiful cruise ship -great service from bar people -super clean and safe -lots of room (late May) I highly recommend this trip!
It was very convenient to purchase the ferry tickets through Viator. The process of exchanging the redemption voucher for the actual tickets was somewhat confusing. The ticket agent at the ferry seemed annoyed when I showed her the voucher but luckily she fulfilled the tickets. The ferry itself was awesome! Very clean with great food choices and lots of room to find seating. The ferry left 15 minutes early from port on both the trip to Helsinki and the trip back to Tallinn so be sure to show up an hour early for boarding! They wait for no one! I would recommend this experience for sure.
We booked a trip on Megastar from Tallinn to Helsinki via the 'Direct Ferries' app 10.30am ...easy to use and then all you need to do is check in at the port with the reference and PIN emailed to you. - all very well signed once you get to the port....ferry crossing was fab and the ship was extremly clean with plenty of facilities...*** A warning though!..as I had read previous, we arrived in plenty of time as you need to check in 45 minutes before you board...we boarded at 9.50 as scheduled BUT we left at 10.15...fifteen minutes early!!..make sure you leave plenty of time to board..we are so glad we heeded previous advice !!
Amazing journey, food, drinks and service 🫶 would highly recommend thus service to anyone who is visiting Tallinn. Helsinki is a beautiful city just like Tallinn but the two cultures are so evidently different! Food is superb, especially in Tallinn. Happy travels! 😊
Helsinki is a great day trip if you’re staying in Tallinn. The ferry service is modern and easy. The ferry arrives about 14 minutes taxi from the centre of Helsinki
Trip to Helsinki was fabulous but on the way back to Tallinn it was overbooked, people sitting on the stairs, unfortunately I was unable to get anywhere to sit on the way back and had to sit outside in -16 weather!!!
Great way to get from Tallinn to Helsinki. Very smooth ride across the sea. Food available to buy and you can also bring your own. Loved the experience!
We took the Silja MS/Megastar over to Tallinn, Estonia early in the morning and came back on the last trip that night. The ship was beautiful, clean, had fine dining delights, information and Tallinn cards available at the information desk. Wonderful Duty Free shop right on board. Best way to get to Tallinn in just 2 hours from Helsinki!
Great deal on the round-trip ferry tickets from Tallinn to Helsinki. Nice big clean ferry with comfortable seating and dining area.
The ferry takes you from Tallinn to Helsinki in two hours for approximately 30 €. What a great experience. Clean, fast, efficient. There are several restaurants on board, one with buffet food. Had a great day, definitely worth it.
Easy to book. Excellent ferry company comfortable travelling across to Helsinki Enough time to see the main sights but there’s always the 10 hour trip if you need more time
