This property completely failed to deliver basic standards of service and hospitality. Although the room was spacious and good location, it was in poor condition and only moderately clean. The primary issue was a significant mismatch between the plan booked via a third-party platform and the hotel’s confirmation, resulting in an exorbitant rate of over ¥78,000 for two people without meals. Even when presented with full evidence of the discrepancy, the hotel made zero effort to investigate or resolve the problem. To make matters worse, the front desk staff was dismissive. There was no greeting at check-in, no willingness to assist, and no apology for the disruption. Instead, they kept pushing us to pay extra for a meal plan, despite us insisting that our original booking was supposed to include meals. Their approach was strictly transactional rather than service-oriented. The hotel failed to deliver on both its rate integrity and guest service. We cannot recommend staying here!

The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the Hirayu area, with many attractions, scenic spots, and local restaurants nearby. It is an excellent base for discovering the surrounding mountains and enjoying the region's natural beauty. One of the highlights of the stay was the public bath, which was clean, well-maintained, and incredibly relaxing—the perfect way to unwind after a day of sightseeing. On the downside, the Wi-Fi connection was unreliable and often slow, making it difficult to stay connected. The furniture and room furnishings also felt quite dated and could benefit from renovation. Despite these drawbacks, the convenient location and relaxing public bath made for an enjoyable stay overall.
Unfortunately, our room smelt of cigarette smoke and we are non smokers. We checked in at 3pm and afternoon sun was hitting the window side of room which made it quite hot. I think it would be nice for them to switch on aircon prior to customers entering room to make it more comfortable and pleasant. The garden view from reception room is really beautiful! If you looking to stay a short distance from Kamikochi, this village is absolutely perfect.
Very very touristy compared to other ryukans that I've been to. Should have known that when it was available directly from booking.com (to be fair I had to use booking when the japanese site failed). The buffet was fine but doesn't have the intimate exquisiteness of classic ryokan kaiseki. I think it was fine for breakfast but somewhat disappointing for dinner. The onsens are still great, spacious enough to not be crowded at least when I went. Good mix of temperatures and indoors / outdoors. You can see stars in the unlit outdoors onsen at night.
We really enjoyed our stay here and loved the experience. It feels like quite a mass tourism style hotel rather than ultra traditional ryokan, and is basic but very functional and provided what we wanted which was an in-house onsen and easy access to Kamikochi. We don’t have anything to compare to but thought the baths were excellent and despite being end of Golden Week not busy at all. Japanese style room was basic but pleasant. Didn’t eat in-house - cost was very high versus other local options. Giving it 4* rather than 5* as the whole thing a novelty to us and enjoyment in large part down to being in this beautiful area rather than the hotel itself.
