Gorgeous lake views and terraced tea trees. The tea tasting experience was very thorough, perhaps too long.

Itinerary
Your tour starts with a visit to Thousand Island Lake, which is located in the south of Shiding District, New Taipei City. The catchment area of Feitsui Reservoir surrounded by hills creates the unique scenery—a lake with thousands of islands, which shares the same name with the “Qiandao Lake” (literally thousand island lake) in China due to the resemblance between the two.
The natural terrain and climate make the surrounding area of Feitsui Reservoir an ideal farmland for tea-growing, including Wenshan Baozhong tea and Dong Fang Mei Ren tea. Bagua Tea Plantation is located in this area, too. From the top of the hill, the neatly planted rows of tea look just like the symbols of Eight Trigrams, hence the name. You will make a stop here and enjoy the stunning views of the endless rows of tea plants amidst the rolling hills around you.
Your tour continues with a visit to Pinglin Tea Museum, a Hokkien-style Siheyuan (quadrangle courtyard house) type of building that characterizes the traditional dwelling of Taiwan. The museum has an abundant collection of traditional harvesting tools and equipment, tea sets, tea samples and many more that you will learn about the history and development of Taiwan’s tea industry. Additionally, the AR contents offer immersive experiences that you can interact with the exhibits, and have a better understanding of the world of Taiwanese tea.
Since you are in Pinglin, of course you will not miss out on the opportunity to taste the authentic Taiwanese tea at a local tea shop. The tea shop owner will give an introduction to Taiwanese tea, and show you how to properly brew the tea to bring out the flavors of the tea leaves. You will also have an opportunity to taste different tea samples.
On the way back to our meeting point, you can choose to be dropped off at Taipei 101.

If you wanna get away from the city and gain knowledge about tea and some of its it's history this is it guide was very knowledgeable and was kind
Beautiful sites and comfortable bus. Guide very friendly and full of information. She was a little hard to understand on bus speaker but easier in person.
Very comprehensive tour, learnt a lot about tea farming and making from our guide.
It was a fun tour. Lily was a great and knowledgeable tour guide. I learned so much about tea and Taiwan.
The guide was wonderful and I really enjoyed the museum
Thank you to Molly for a wonderful tour! It was a pleasant drive out to Thousand Island Lake. We had lots of time to take in the beautiful views from different vantage points. From there we continued on to Pinglin where we had a lovely tasting of 3 local teas at Mr Huang’s tea shop. Then we finished at the Pinglin Tea Museum, which gives lots of interesting facts about the rituals of tea. This is a great way to spend an afternoon outside the city and especially so if you enjoy tea!
Pretty scenery, and the tea tasting was quite involved. A fun escape from Taipei. The guide was a little difficult to understand.
This was such an amazing adventure. We’re so glad we did it. Tony was an awesome guide who kept us well informed all the way. The entire trip was well orchestrated and we saw some beautiful scenery, including a tea plantation. The tea museum was a great stop, very informative. Then the tea ceremony to finish off was really impressive. We learned a lot about tea and taste. There were opportunities to purchase the teas we tasted. Also pot sets etc. This was such a great half day adventure. Highly recommended Wendy
Our tea tour and tasting was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, James, was fantastic. He shared lots of interesting and educational information about the history of tea, and his enthusiasm made every stop engaging. We came away knowing so much more than we expected. The views of Thousand Island Lake were simply amazing. The scenery alone made the tour worth it, and we took more photos than we can count. The tea tasting at the end was the perfect finish: delicious, fun, and a great way to put everything we'd learned into practice. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves tea, history, or beautiful scenery. Thank you, James, for such a memorable experience!
Low key, chill vibe. Good to escape the city for the afternoon. Small group was nice. Walked around a viewing area of the lake. Saw some tea farms. I didn't know much about how tea was made before this tour so it was very informative. Cool smallish museum stop. I loved the tea shop and the owners demonstration. We got to try 3 different teas. Side note- no food so make sure to eat a good lunch before.
Beautiful places but I wish we had spent more time outside and actually walking around the plantation and speaking with farmers and also getting close to the lake and walking around the lake. Our guide, Walter, and the driver were very friendly and the tea tasting itself was great. I wish we had had some time to walk around Pinglin town. A bit pricey for the offerings.
Well organized, clean vehicle, knowledgable guide (David) and good driver (another David!). Amazing views and enlightening tea house experience.. Would recommend!
Great tour, very informative. Loved the tea master experience. They were very funny. Guide was very friendly.
This was an amazing experience! It felt very personal, as the group was quite small, meaning the tour guide, David, was able to give everyone specialized attention. David was very friendly and knowledgeable and was able to answer any question we had. I would recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore the Taipei area off the beaten path.
Tour guide Sharon was great. She was not only informative but also kept the tour fun by helping everyone take photos and direct poses.
It was a nice time, great views of the lake and islands plus the tea experience was educational. Grace was terrific and very passionate about her work and extreamly helpful. She went out of her way to help the guests
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. The trip was seamless and he also helped us take great photos. We tried three very nice teas in Pinglin. I highly recommend this tour if you are staying in Taipei and don't have a car to explore the rest of the island. You are missing out!
I really liked this tour! The lake was pretty and the guide will take you to all the good viewpoints (note that you see it from afar and don't go up close) The guide had a lot of knowledge to share during the museum visit. And the tea ceremony was so much fun - probably my favorite part. You'll learn tips on getting the best flavor out of tea and try some locally grown varieties. If you go, wear appropriate clothes for visiting temples since there is one near the last stop you can visit.
Grace was a fantastic tour guide and her English skills impressive. She provided a lot of information and was able to answer any questions I had. The entire tour was great and it was lovely to get out of the city for a while and enjoy some nature. The tea tasting was great and the gentleman conducting it was a lot of fun. I highly recommend!
Awesome tour, quick chance to see a bit of the outskirts and hills around Taipei in an afternoon. If you’re short on time, but you want to see some nature this one is decent. Sharon the guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
We got soaking wet in a downpour which added to the fun. The lakes area is beautiful and the tea drinking was enlightening, and delicious.
Molly was a great guide to a relaxing tour of Thousand Island Lake, tea fields nearby, a visit to the Pinglin Tea museum, & a tea tasting session at a tea shop run by two brothers in their 70’s. It was wonderful to leave the crowds of Taipei for a few hours & enjoy the scenery in a lush & mountainous rural area. Molly guided the group through much of the tea museum & then gave us some time to explore on our own. Learning how to prepare & tasting three types of local tea was enjoyable too.
From Taipei you quickly arrive in the totally different world of the mountains and discover the ancient traditions of fine tea with all your senses. Great experience!
We had a fantastic tea tour today. Our guide David was so knowledgeable and friendly explaining about the area, tea culture and the history. He explained lots of things for us on the way too and from the area as well. The tour gave us a great introduction to the Thousand Island Lake area and Taiwanese Tea. The museum was very informative and our guide did a great job of leading us through it. The tea tasting was a wonderful experience- learning about the ritual and background of tea growing - it was fun and great to meet a family who have been involved in the tea business for generations.
This is a bus tour out to Pinglin with stops to view the mountainside tea plantations. Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and made for a very positive experience. The mountainside stops are outstanding and the tea presentation was educational and tasty. Definitely worth the price for an evening tour.
We drove through the mountains and saw the tea terraces with mountains and a winding river as the backdrop. We learned about the leaf hopper insect that makes the tea sweeter and guarantees that no pesticides can be used. The tea museum was very interesting, and there is a nesting area for egrets and other interstellar birds near the museum. Then we had an amazing experience learning to enjoy tea with a tea master. Grace was a great tour guide!
This is a very unique experience and one I would recommend. David, our guide, was informative and helpful.
Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys tea or just wants to get out of the city to see some beautiful scenery. Christina was a fantastic tour guide who provided a helpful overview of local history and culture, and Mr. Xi was a very safe and efficient driver. The tasting with the tea master was a particular highlight.
Kelvin is our guide. Very well informed and helpful. Show us the best photo spots and explained the cultural and historical facts of each place.
This experience about tea tasting and different teas in the region around Taipei was definitely worth the time and experience, highly recommended it
This five hour guided tour to visit a tea plantation place, tea house and tea museum nearby Taipei was really satisfying. Although the weather was a bit gloomy, our tour guide Mr Tony was knowledgeable and delightful and so was the experience. Relieved to see other participants were also solo. Quite a small group as four of us and that was probably easy to fully enjoy the tea tastings too.
The tour was OK, but there were several issues. First, the guide was difficult to understand and he both meandered and repeated himself. Second the museum on the tour did not do a good job of explaining the process of manufacturing tea - which has several notable characteristics that affect the taste of tea. I have been to other museums that do a better job of explaining it. Also, the guide does not need to explain the museum as it has signs posted in English that explain everything more clearly. Finally, the tea tasting was well done, but there was a pretty heavy handed expectation that everyone was going to buy some tea from the shop. I felt that could have been handled better.
The tour was amazing and Kevin our guide was very personable and informative. His energy was great! We learned a lot about tea and the region in which it was grown and processed. I would absolutely recommend the tour.
We really didn't see much of the Thousand Island Lakes. The guide (although we asked for an English speaking guide) was very hard to understand his English. We loved Pinglin and the tea experience. Driver was good but it was a small 6 person van, no water for the tourists, and the AC wasn't working very well for the hour drive into the mountains.
Easy, nice views of tea plantations, good tea tasting. Small group. The guide was interesting. Hé shared plenty of info.
Great if you love and enjoy mountain views And are a tea enthusiast. Great information from Tony - our guide. It rained most of the time but we managed to get thru it. Reacting was a good experience
Kevin is a very good guide with thorough knowledge about tea plantation and history of tea Excellent tour with mountain views
Thousand Island Lake tour surprised me. It rained all day, but it was still very nice. The spectacular views views over the lake and walking through the Pinglin👍
If you love tea, you should consider this half day tour. Pinglin and the tea planations nearby were magical places. I learned a lot about tea at the tea museum, too
Trip was fun and fairly well organized. Guide spoke good English and the sights were something we'd never seen before.
Just the perfect trip when you have half a day and you want to get out of town. Scenic and with some interesting history. I also enjoyed the tea tasting which was a lot of fun.
I had a one day layover in Taipei and needed to get my trip completed by early afternoon which is why I chose the private tour. I am so glad I ventured out of the airport because the day ended up being a truly lovely adventure. I met my host at a downtown hotel close to the Taipei Main Station. We drove in a mini van through the winding mountain roads to first take in the breathtaking sights of the thousand island lake. It is hard to conceive that just beyond the bustling downtown Taipei there is this stunning natural wilderness, framing the spectacular jade waters of the lake. Orderly mountainside tea plantations, azaleas and jungle lined the narrow roads. We had a couple of stops to walk and enjoy the views before heading to the traditional village of Pinglin. Here we met with a tea master who walked us through the intricacies and ceremony of tea preparation. My guide, Christina (a brilliant lady who speaks four languages fluently!) patiently translated the entire day adding colour and interesting history lessons to enrich the experience. I am so glad I did this tour. Getting the one on one experience was such a blessing and I loved my day out experience a taste of Taiwanese culture.
It was a very interesting trip to Thousand Island Lake (although you don’t actually get down to the waterfront). Seeing how tea is planted and visiting the tea museum was especially interesting for me as an avid tea drinker who had never really looked into the tea-making process before. The tour itself felt a bit scattered at times, with a loose structure on timing and activities that mostly centered around sightseeing stops. That said, the tea house experience at the end definitely made up for those shortcomings. Overall a 7/10 — a nice option if you have some open time in your Taipei itinerary.
My visit to Thousand Island Lake was unforgettable. The natural beauty, quiet atmosphere, and scenic boat ride made it such a relaxing experience. It’s a perfect getaway if you love nature and beautiful landscapes.
I really enjoyed drinking tea at the shop in pinglin. It was a fun half day tour. If you are interested in a tour that is outside the busy city, I would recommend this one.
Beautiful experience in the Taiwanese mountains. Definitely recommended if you like beautiful landscape and tea
Sharon was very accommodating to our group who needed both English and Mandarin to fully be inclusive. It would be nice to have more free time at the Tea Museum since a lot of the information provided an English translation. My mom wasn't feeling her best while on the tour and she was very helpful with that caveat. The tea ceremony was really fun and the highlight!
Molly was very friendly, knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the culture. Highlight was the tea tasting with the owner of a tea farm.
Sharron was an amazing guide! She was very knowledgeable and kind. We couldn't have asked for anyone better.
