This is a great tour for getting oriented to the local cusine of Taipei. Our guide Dave did a great job of introducing us to the culture and history of the area and gave us some great recommendations for our time here. He was very accommodating to our food preferences as well whenever he could be. I would definitely recommend this tour to any first time visitors who want a fun and relaxing activity to help them learn about a new city.

Itinerary
Step into the timeless streets of Dihua, Taipei’s oldest trading district, where red-brick storefronts, fragrant apothecaries, and generations of culinary traditions create a feast for the senses. As we wander through this historic neighborhood, you'll discover how centuries of commerce, migration, and culture have shaped some of Taiwan’s most beloved flavors. We waste no time diving into the local food scene, beginning with a selection of iconic Taiwanese street snacks. Taste the famous pig’s blood cake (豬血糕), a uniquely Taiwanese treat with a delightfully chewy texture and irresistible sweet-savory flavor. Then savor a steaming bowl of braised pork rice (滷肉飯), the comforting national favorite that has earned its reputation as Taiwan’s ultimate soul food. Along the way, we’ll pause for a refreshing cup of herbal grass tea (青草茶), a traditional drink crafted from medicinal herbs and enjoyed by locals for generations.
Step inside the historic Yongle Market, the beating heart of Dadaocheng and one of Taipei’s oldest marketplaces. Beneath its beautiful red-brick facade, generations of merchants and food vendors have kept local traditions alive, creating a vibrant snapshot of old Taipei. As we wander through its bustling corridors of fabric shops, fresh produce, and family-run stalls, we'll sample a few local favorites, such as artisanal baos and some of Taiwan’s famous seasonal fruits.
Just a short walk from the bustling streets of Dihua, we make a quick stop at the Taipei Xia Hai City God Temple, one of the most beloved spiritual sites in the city. Despite its small size, this temple is known for its powerful blessings, especially for those seeking love, protection, and good fortune. You’ll notice the constant flow of worshippers, the scent of burning incense, and the intricate details packed into every corner of the shrine.
Before reaching our next destination, the lively food court at Dadaocheng Cisheng Temple, we'll take a short detour down Liangzhou Street, one of the neighborhood's quieter historic lanes. Here, we'll stop for a taste of one of Taiwan's most iconic street foods: gua bao (割包), often nicknamed the "Taiwanese hamburger", known for its soft fluffy steamed bun with slices of tender braised pork in between.
We then head to the lively food scene surrounding Dadaocheng Cisheng Temple Food Street, a local favorite that most travelers would never find on their own. Here, we focus on one specialty done right: a freshly made Taiwanese chicken roll (雞肉捲). Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with umami flavor. It’s a humble dish, but one that perfectly captures the essence of Taiwanese comfort food.
We'll finish our evening culinary journey at Ningxia Night Market, one of Taipei’s most beloved food destinations and a favorite among locals for its dedication to classic Taiwanese flavors. As evening falls, the market comes alive with glowing signs, sizzling grills, and the irresistible aromas of freshly prepared street food. Strolling through its lively lanes, we'll sample some of Taiwan's most iconic night market snacks, from crispy, flaky scallion pancakes to chewy sweet potato balls fresh from the fryer, a perfect finale to our tour

the guid was great, fun and interesting!!!
The food was delicious and Erin was a fabulous guide. Highly recommend!
Great food tour, left feeling full with good variety. My guide Erin was really nice and informative the entire time too! I enjoyed all the different types of nibbles and ate everything.
Erin was an excellent tour guide. She made this experience great
Eric was a great host! Personable and knowledgeable
Dave and Annie were absolutely charming. The food selections were extremely well thought out to include a huge number of traditional and Taiwan-specific specialties while focusing on items you want to go back and get again. They also gave us some history and took us into a Temple and explained the protocol which was super helpful. They were both enthusiastic about the food, giving us cute stories from their childhoods. They finished by asking us what else we’d like to know and sharing a wealth of recommendations with us. We’ve been on food tours all over the world from Vietnam to Sweden and I’ve enjoyed them all, but this was my favorite because of the mix of the tour, the food selections and the hosts personalities.
One of the best food tours I’ve ever joined! Dave was an exceptional guide, effortlessly bilingual in English and Mandarin, warm, and deeply knowledgeable. Instead of just hopping between stops, he brought Taiwanese culture, local history, and traditional culinary craftsmanship vividly to life. Every single tasting was delicious, the celebratory shot of local spirits at the end was such a fun touch, and leaving with a surprise pineapple cake souvenir was the cherry on top. An unmissable experience in Taipei!
Good experience. Guide thought parade that was on that night was a hinderance but we loved it. A mix of foods - only disappointment was some sweet food came in middle of savoury and as a western guest would have preferred all sweet at end of tour. Guide very helpful.
Very friendly communication guide
Delightful food tour. Erin our guide was sweet.
Dave was a great guide! Knowledgeable and kept us informed with history and context of all the locations, traditions and food. Lots of variety when it came to the food and nice brief periods of walking to different destinations. Good sized group as it gave an opportunity to get to know other travellers. Great for solo and couples.
This tour was perfect! We were able to try foods that we had on our list and some we didn’t! We did this the first night in Taipei, so it made it easier the rest of the trip to know what to try and where to go!
Dave was great Very friendly and informative
We sampled lots of interesting food and Dave was very friendly and knowledgeable. Great way to spend a few hours in Taipei.
Ava was a charming guide and did a wonderful job on her first solo tour, taking us around Taipei to try some of the best street food offerings the city has to offer. Everything we had was delicious! The gua bao was my personal favourite. The gifts at the end were lovely too.
Best food tour evar. Dave was fantastic, very knowledgeable and has great recommendations (even beyond what we ate on the day). All the stops were delicious and we had a great group!
Our guides were great! We got to experience a great handful of different foods that we wouldn’t have known to try! All were delicious! It was easy and our group was fun. Would do again!
Dave was excellent. Brought us through interesting neighborhoods, talked through some history, and of course the food! He gave us lots of other recommendations as well. We went on the tour our first day in Taipei which worked out great. Highly recommend.
Dave was amazing! He knows Taipei's food culture inside and out, and the tour was more than just food. Between tastings we stopped at temples and landmarks, and he was just as knowledgeable about those. He also had a fun little surprise near the end that I won't spoil. 😉 The short rib soup was the standout, absolutely to die for! At 3 hours, the tour felt like the right length, and with just 2 of us in the group it was much more personal than a big crowd would have been. The downside was the price: at $80, it felt too steep for the amount of food we got. I also wish we'd tried the dishes Taiwan is best known for abroad, like beef noodle soup and bubble milk tea. Still a great experience overall, and Dave made it worthwhile. Recommend!
Had a great time with Dave as a guide!
A great way to sample Taiwanese cuisine and meet new people! Erin was an amazing guide who explained everything well—highly recommend taking the tour with her!
Erin was an excellent tour guide! Lots of fun facts about the area we walked through and the food we tried. She made a great guide and the food was all delicious!
Great food walking tour. My favorite was the basil pancake
We had the most amazing time with Dave and Jessica today, they we so friendly and helpful. The tour was so fun, informative, so considerate and they went above and beyond for our group. Delicious and so fun, we would recommend to anyone. So helpful to rebook at no extra charge with the typhoon as well!
The food tour was a great time even during the typhoon weather! Erin was kind and extremely knowledgeable and even spoke several different languages which helped tremendously. The food ranged from sweet and savory to definitely interesting (pig blood gao, I believe it was). Overall, awesome stops at some cool snacks shops, the Love God temple and the night market to explore more local food was great
I booked last minute and was so glad I did! Thanks to Dave for such an amazing experience. I really loved the bun and the ice cream. Dave also brought us to several historical sites such as a Buddhist temple and gave us the context and history which was much appreciated. I would definitely so this tour again if I ever find myself in Taiwan again.
Erin was a great tour guide, very warm and friendly!
Nonstop eating for 3 hours! Great introduction to Taipei’s street food and markets. Guides were super friendly and informative. Loved it!
Great tour. Friendly and well informed guides.
Got to try a whole variety of foods on this tour that I wouldn’t have otherwise tried. Jessica was very nice and helpful in explaining all the food.
Highly recommend this tour. Jessica got us to try foods that I would not normally think to try. Stinky Tofu is one of them. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Great tour. Thank you
Had a great morning with Jessica. We tried lots of different local foods. Ones that I would t have tried unless I did the tour. Stinky Tofu was one of them which was not as bad as the name would have you believe. Local knowledge, local cuisine and walking around one of the older parts of Taipei was awesome.
Jessica was amazing! Such a great guide.

We became very ill shortly before the tour so had to cancel. However Dave was very understanding and allowed us to transfer the tickets to friends. Our itinerary did not allow us to go. Our friends said the tour was amazing and a great way for them to start their Taipei journey and they loved the food
Dave and the two guides-in-training were fun to talk with and informative about the food and a bit of history. Would recommend this food tour if you’re just arriving in Taiwan and want a good overview, introduction, and sampling.
Dave was such a great guide for this food tour. He brought us around to show a good variety of food. He was responsive, helpful, and accommodating with the booking and meeting up.
Dave was a great tour guide and very informative
Dave was a wonderful guide! He was exceptionally accommodating to our sensitivities and needs. The tour visited many delicious spots with bits of local information in-between.
Dave was a fantastic guide and the tour was well paced and a lot of fun. Definitely come hungry as lots of great food to try. Dave was able to explain really well any anything we wanted to know about the many different dishes we saw. He also gave us a good overview of the area and answered all our questions like where are the best pepper pork buns, how to flag down a taxi and use the subway. Definitely the best thing to do on your first day in Taipei. It helps set you up for the rest of your holiday here.
As a solo traveler, I had a wonderful time exploring Taiwan’s food scene with Dave. He introduced the group to a variety of local dishes and shared interesting insights into the traditions and culture behind them. The evening time slot was perfect, and ending at a lively night market made the experience even more memorable. Dave was friendly, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable throughout the tour. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Taipei on their own!
