Lots of delicious food and drinks to enjoy. Went to a locals market for an authentic experience and really glad we did. Great evening with Alice as our guide!

Charlotte was a wonderful guide, she took us around the Shilin night market and we had all the food we’d been interested in trying (even stinky tofu which was way better than expected!). We also talked a lot about life in Taiwan and she shared her own favorites and perspectives which was great. She also gave us lots of options to customize, so really anyone would be able to enjoy. Highly recommend this tour!
We had an unforgettable evening with Alice as our tour guide for the Raohe Night Market / street food tour. Alice was very personable and accommodating to our requests during the tour. It was a great way to learn about the food and culture of Taipei. The night market was lively with a variety of food options; we had scallion pancakes, pineapple cake, sweet potato balls, and other local delicacies. We look forward to returning to the city. Ask for Alice and you will have an awesome guide.
Alice was an excellent guide, taking us through the Night Market and letting us sample the many foods …She gave explanations of the many different food options!
It was so nice to meet Charlotte and have her help to explore the Raohe night market. We visited on a particularly busy and hot holiday night so having her local expertise was so valuable. Thank you Charlotte!
We had a great night exploring a local night market trying the food and visiting a temple as well Kevin was a good host
We had a great time trying new foods and leaving about Taiwan from our guide Lin. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and took our lead on the pace for the tour. We even toured a temple nearby which was an added bonus.
Green was an awesome tour guide! In addition to showing me all the best food stops, he was a great conversationalist and gave me interesting insights into Taipei and Taiwan. Highly recommend! Thanks Green :)
Such a good experience! Charlotte was my tour guide! She is local to Taipei and speaks English perfectly. She was a great conversationalist and was super knowledgeable about food in the night market. She convinced me to try stinky tofu and candied tomatoes and plums on a stick. Charlotte was the perfect tour guide for such a unique and memorable experience!
We had a great time with Yui. She customized the trip to our preferences and was fun to spend time with. The food was - of course - excellent.
Charlotte was wonderful at allowing us to set the pace and pick the places to stop within Shilin market. She was great at showing us the ropes and even taught us how to use the Taiwan metro system. Met us early at the start and was mindful of our preferences. Very friendly and outgoing too.
Green was our tour guide, and he was great. He met us at our hotel, and we took the train to the night market, no complaints whatsoever! But.... in hindsight, this was a tour that I should have just done on my own. Not to complex to navigate the particular market we went to.
If you want to eat like a local this tour is a great opportunity. My guide Alice did an excellent job walking me through the Night Markets and showing me the foods that Taiwanese people love. Although there are some outlandish options that might test a westerner, there are also plenty of tamer options as well. We even got lucky and scored some fresh Chinese Bayberries which have a very short season.
The night market tour was, unfortunately, a disappointment. Our guide, Green Huang, was warm and kind, but at this price point, I expected a higher level of English proficiency (at least a 7+) and a guide capable of providing meaningful historical and cultural context. Green’s English was closer to a 5 or 6, and while he was friendly, he struggled to add the kind of narrative depth that brings chaotic night markets to life. I was surprised by the language barrier, given that he’s worked for a U.S. company in a technical liaison role—perhaps his communication there was mostly written or limited to technical topics. That said, he was flexible and did take us to both Raohe and Shilin markets in one evening, which would’ve been logistically difficult without a local. He also made a useful pivot to Wufenpu after we mentioned wanting to buy socks, which we appreciated. Still, the experience ultimately felt like we were paying a high price just to follow someone around and try a few snacks. I don’t fault Green—my guess is the guide takes home a small cut while the platform (Viator) takes the lion’s share. But that’s exactly why Viator should be adding value: by setting clear standards and expectations for its guides. At one point, my wife asked Green about the Dutch colonial period in Taiwan, and he said he didn’t know the Dutch had ever been there. That was surprising. A guide leading cultural tours should be familiar with such major historical touchpoints—even if just enough to offer a basic explanation or segue into local relevance. It further underscored the sense that this tour lacked depth and historical grounding. Why not ensure guides are prepared to teach guests something? For example: • What’s the origin story of Taiwan’s night markets? • How did they evolve during the Japanese colonial period? • Who licenses the vendors, and how does the system work? • What’s life like for the workers behind the scenes? • Are there any legendary vendors or stories that define the culture? A tour like this has so much potential, but ours skimmed the surface. Sorry, Green—we enjoyed your company, but this is an honest review..
I had an awesome food tour with Charlotte on Saturday night! We went to Shilin night market and there was an abundance of different food options to try! We also got lucky that we came across some birthday celebrations for a key figure in Taoism - Mazu. There were dancers, firecrackers and music in the streets! It was really cool! Charlotte was a great tour guide! She was so easy to talk to. Told me about local foods, but also about life in Taiwan in general! She’s a great guide! Thank-you Charlotte!
What a great time. The food was delicious (mostly 😜), and Alice was great. She suggested foods - some of which we tried (shaved ice!!), and some we chose not to. She was friendly, engaging and helpful. There’s plenty of food: we got full before the money ran out.
This was a great experience exploring Taipei's night market for the first time. I really appreciated having a local guide who could communicate with the street vendors. The meat buns from the Michelin Star place was probably my favorite food the entire evening. I also really appreciated the guide giving me a tour of a local temple while providing cultural and historical context about it. This was overall a great evening.
The tour involved two night markets in Taipei. Mr. Green was very knowledgeable and flexible. He explained local history, took me to the best place to eat in each market, and ensured that I experienced the local culture.
What a great tour! Our tour guide, Lin (Charlotte), was very friendly and knowledgeable and ensured we had a great time. We tried lots of different dishes and enjoyed them all. She also helped us with transportation and gave us lots of helpful recommendations for other things to do in the city. It felt like a fun night out with a local friend. I highly recommend this tour!
Lin was a great host! Very knowledgeable and helpful, kind and attentive. We would enjoy taking another tour with her.
Roro was an amazing guide. We were shown such interesting people and foods. The night market was a maze and Roro guided us through with ease. So many different foods to choose from. She explained everything as well as the different customs and things we saw. She was a perfect leader. Roro answered all of our questions and made the experience one to always remember. She is a treasure and a definite perfect addition to Viator. We would wish her to be our guide in the future. 10 out of 10
Alice contacted us before our tour and made suggestions as far as our options to get to Songshan from our hotel. She was in constant contact making sure that we can find each other easily. Alice asked us what we liked, made recommendations as far as the different foods, talked with the vendors to make sure we weren’t getting cheated. We found her to be personable, considerate and pleasant to be with. I’d highly recommend Alice and this tour. It would be hard to go to the night market alone and not be able to communicate with the vendors. Plus if you want to buy anything you need to bring Taiwan dollars.
Dragon was wonderful and we would recommend her for any tour! She was knowledgeable and kind and was fun to be with!
We loved the food tour at the night markets. We visited two markets - one smaller and one larger. It was a great way to get a sense of the culture and taste amazing food. Our guide Charlotte was great - she took us to the best food stalls, provided background on the places and food, and made the tour fun and relaxed. She was flexible to accommodate our interests and very generous with her time. We definitely recommend this tour!
I’ll start by saying that I did not have a bad experience. Our tour guide was very professional, albeit extremely quiet. To the point where it felt like we were not getting as much information on the food as we had hoped for. My biggest issue is that the tour is extremely overpriced for what you get. Food at the night markets in Taiwan is extremely affordable, when you factor in the fact that the food we received was all meant to be shared between two people, you are really paying for someone to order the food for you and that’s it. We found ourselves asking a lot of questions, trying to get more information regarding the history of background on the food we were eating and did not get much information.
This tour was very memorable because my guide, Cindy, is extremely knowledgeable not only about Taipei but about Taiwan as a whole. Her prodigious grasp of history and of current events in Taiwan provided a wonderful backdrop to the sites and places that we visited. She brought me not only to attractions frequented by tourists but also to other interesting, less-crowded places. I highly recommend this tour and suggest that you ask for Cindy as your guide.
Our guide, Cindy, was excellent! She knew all of the places to go! It was Chinese New Year’s Eve, and though some places closed early, she made the best of it! She is most knowledgable about the city, night market, and various foods. Cindy made sure that each of us had something we would like.
I booked and then the local company canceled on me because they couldn't find a guide to do it that night. Refund is pending.
Cindy was great! Super knowledgeable. I was also still struggling with a lot of jet lag, and she was very flexible in adapting the tour to what I could handle.
Daphne was great. She showed us around the temple first and then we are our way through the night market. Definitely would recommend !
Excellent choices of foods. Claire, the tour guide, was very flexible and very considerate. It was a great way to understand the Taiwan culture of dining out.
Oh this was so fun! So worth having a guide to meet you at the temple to walk you through and explain the culture, religions, and history of Taiwan. She was also great in recommending wonderful street food and so great with our young children and finding something they would like. This is so worth booking during a trip to Taipei.
Wayne Huang was a great guide. He graciously explained the customs at the temple in Shilin Night Market. Very helpful in explaining and ordering delicious food. This is a great deal for a private tour
Had a great time with my guide Peining. The Rahoe night market is incredible and I’m glad I had someone to show me what to eat! We also saw some nearby historical sites.
I have done several food and night tours all over the world and this was the worst experience ever. We had Megan as our tour guide. First, when I paid for this tour it says that includes 8 different food trials and we only had 3, the rest we had to pay. The tour was supposed to last 3 hours and she was done in 2 hours. The communication with her was not the best. Not recommended at all.
Although we were apprehensive eating the food, Ben was a great Tourguide explaining and introducing Taiwan and Taiwanese culture to us.
Ben was helpful, friendly and very informative. Would very much recommend this tour. More characters.
My family and I did this tour in 2 groups over 2 nights. Both Nina and Ben were fantastic tour guides - they were friendly and knowledgeable and it an experience we would 100% recommend. We couldn’t have navigated the night market without them because nothing was written in English! Loved every dish they gave us. Especially enjoyed the local feel of this night market - no other tourist in sight. Nina and Ben provided us with tips for other great things to do, see and eat in Taipei too. A must book tour for any food enthusiast wanting to experience real Taiwanese food!
