Great guide. Very informative to learn about the history of Taiwan
Leo was a great guide who really knows his stuff. He was funny, insightful, warm, and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the history and spirit of Taiwan. Highly recommend!
A Great Way to Discover Taipei’s History and Culture! I joined this walking tour in May and really enjoyed the experience. It was a great way to explore Taipei’s old town and learn more about Taiwan’s history, culture, and local life. The walking tour offered a different perspective on the city, with interesting historical sites and stories that helped me better understand Taiwan. I also enjoyed exploring the old streets and seeing a side of Taipei that I might have missed on my own. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Taipei for the first time. It’s a great opportunity to learn something new while exploring the city on foot. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes!
Leo was friendly and super knowledgeable!
Leo was sensational! So fun and informative. We had an amazing time and it was a great way to see old parts of the city.
A very interesting and informative tour by Lina. The content was interesting and excellently presented by Lina
Our guide Eric gave us a very interesting and informative tour and did a great job of explaining the sights in the context of Taiwan's complicated history. Eric did this in an engaging and interesting way that enabled us to understand how this not only affected Taipei's built environment but also Taiwan's current political situation. We also enjoyed the option of trying a uniquely Taiwanese beverage. A highly recommended tour.
We have just finished the walking tour of the Old City Taipei with Lina. It was an excellent tour and Lina was knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour.
Highly informative overwiew of different historic eras, defining periods and events, which gave me a better understanding of present-day Taiwan. Ale(jandra), our spirited, passionate guide, presented this with lots of knowledge but also with wit at different points of interest. On to a local market - hard to find on your own - and a tasting of bubble tea. Didn't expect it to be so good! On to Ximen, again with some historic/cultural background. A great tour I can highly recommend - and Ale was an absolutely fantastic guide, muchissimas gracias!!
For a buck????? Okay I gave her another $27CAD, but it was very informative with someone who knew virtually nothing about this amazing country!! Thanks SOO much!
Excellent humerous tour with plenty of historical and cultural background - a great start to any trip to Taiwan!!
Veronica was our tour guide, she was great! very enthusiastic and knew lots about the history of taipei + was willing and able to answer any questions we had. great tour, not too long or short. i appreciated the fact that we only stood in shaded areas haha.
Bring umbrella. Some stops no shade available Some history new to me Go inside limited to certain buildings
Cody was a great tour guide with lots of information , enjoyable tour and comfortable car to sightsee in
Leo was an excellent tour guide who gave us a great overview of Taiwan’s history and was incredibly knowledgeable about its international relations. He answered all of our questions thoughtfully and made the experience really engaging. He was even working on his birthday.. talk about dedication! 😄 I really enjoyed his energy, passion, and thorough explanations. Highly recommend his tour!
Ale was great! She ran a great tour with good vibes and she was very enthusiastic. We really enjoyed the tour. As with all free walking tours, the tip amount is optional but they recommend NT$400-600 per person, which we thought was very reasonable for the quality. The tour lasted about 2.5 hours, and covered a lot of the history and some interesting personal insights and context explaining how Taiwan being the country it is today. The group was small enough to not feel uncomfortable (around maybe 20 people). Highly recommend doing this tour for anyone and everyone visiting Taipei.
They made me feel obligated to tip at least $400. The guide spoke so fast that the whole tour felt so rushes. It was obvious that he wanted to finish the tour quickly. I don’t think it was worth $400, but I felt pressured to pay at least that. Hopefully there are better guides than the one I got.
Did the tour today Lina our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about Taiwanese history Her depth of knowledge and ease at explanations made this a great tour Thoroughly enjoyed the tour
The Taipei Old Town tour was so much better than what we were expecting. I took the tour with my 22 and 16 year old sons. The tour reads a little like a shopping experience but really wasn't. I think Derek, our guide, could tell from the start that we were there for the history and culture so that's what he delivered. We really enjoyed it. Thank you Derek for trudging through the rain with us!
TourMeAway’s Old Town tour was a perfect introduction to Taipei and Taiwan history. Our tour guide Lina used every spot on the tour to weave in stories about Taiwan history and culture. The whole family (kids and adults!) enjoyed the tour.
Guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic
Great tour! Lina was an excellent guide. So friendly and really knowledgable about Taiwan and its history. Even with the rain she made it an amazing afternoon!!
We discovered the history and culture of Old Taipei City with Leo. He was awesome. Interesting, funny, full of info, got to try some food specialities and we walked from the east gate to the west. At the end, we knew so much more and felt at home. Highly recommend. You just give tips for the service and it was worth it.
Very informative and enjoyable. The guide was personable and well informed. This tour was on day 1 of our visit and proved to be useful later in the week as we travelled in the city.
Vincent was an excellent, helpful and very informative guide. He was heavy on the history and political situation, which I reallly liked.
Great tour. Lots of historical information. Not too much walking and all flat ground. 2 toilet stops. Recommended.
Good tour with Veronica! We learned a lot. Veronica was knowledgeable and easy to understand. She kept the group moving at a decent pace. We saw places we would never have found on our own and enjoyed the history she shared. Job well done Veronica.
Very informative on Taiwan people and history Good to understand how Taiwan has evolved
The tour was very informative and I learned a lot. Veronica was very informative and responsive leading up to the tour which was very helpful. Highly recommend this tour for first time visitors to Taipei.
Leo is not just a tour guide. He is a storyteller, a historian, and a passionate ambassador for his people, and this tour should be every visitor’s very first activity in Taiwan. He brought the history and heart of this country to life in a way that is deeply educational, completely captivating, and impossible to forget. What moved me most is that Taiwan lives under a shadow of political uncertainty most of us cannot imagine, yet its people are vibrant, warm, and awe inspiring in everything they have built despite it. All eight of my family members left forever changed, and we have been spreading our love for Taiwan everywhere we go. I hope the other 30 to 40 people in our group are doing the same, because this country and its people deserve to be celebrated. Leo, you did not just show us a city. You gave us a country to love, and we do, with our whole hearts.
This walking tour goes through Taiwan's history while walking around Old Town. Taile our guide did an excellent job explaining Taiwans history, she was very engaging, made the history come alive and was honest about the dark side of Taiwan's colonized past to the current situation today between Taiwan and China. If you are interested in Taiwans history, I recommend this tour.
Taile was an excellent guide. Her knowledge of Taiwanese history helped me gain a good understanding of past events which have culminated in current politics. Walking through the local market was especially fun. Highly recommended
Great way to spend 2 hours if you love history. Really appreciated Vincent getting into all the details of Taiwans (often complicated) past.
This was so interesting and educational! The group got to go into the Ximen markets as well for snacks. Leo did such a good job with educating us on everything regarding the history of Taiwan especially in the 1900s to present.
This was an awesome tour! Lina, our tour guide was fantastic giving us nice an intro to Taiwan’s origins and to the present day. I highly recommend this.
A well paced tour for all ages which provided two toilet stops along the way. Leo gave a quick history rendition and explained the significance of the old town. The walk was flat and took 21/2 hours. Highly recommended for a tourist who wants to have an introductory understanding of the history and social fabric of Taipei. Thank you Leo!
Leo was passionate is sharing the history of Taiwan and how it is changing.
Leo was a fantastic guide sharing the contours and complexity of Taiwan’s history and its importance to the modern world. He made the tour so lively and then shared some fantastic recommendations to continue exploring the city!
Great tour to learn about the history of Taipei and about the present times in the city . We had an amazing, knowledgeable and kind guide (Talia) and although we were a big group, she managed to guide us as if it was a private tour
Great tour. Able to hear despite being a large group. Interesting information aiding a greater understanding of the history of Taiwan. Lovely route and excellent pace. Thankyou Vincent !
Vincent was very knowledgeable and friendly. Great overview of history and current affairs -thank you!
Very knowledgeable and fun! A true professional.
Our host was Lina. She was fantastic. She told interesting stories about the history of the area and some of the locations we visited. The food was varied, good and well prepared. Lina had everyone introduce themselves, which went a long way to encourage conversations with other participants, which really added to the experience.
Great way to get to learn about the local history. Leo's knowledge was matched by his personality and wamth.
Great information and set the scene for future activities in Taipei. The leader was an expert English guide, filled with knowledge and expertise about Taiwan and the local areas. Quick pace was appreciated, allowing for more information to be learned. HUGE THANK YOU
Leo was fantastic! I really enjoyed the walking tour through Taipei Old Town as it was a perfect way to get introduced to Taiwan. I had just landed and went straight to the walking tour where Leo welcomed me and the other travelers with a warm smile. It was a beautiful day to walk through 228 Peace Memorial Park to Ximending and learn more about Taiwanese identity, culture, and history. Leo was an engaging, informative, and fun guide and I had an incredible time learning more about Taipei, Taiwan. He had me teary eyed, laughing, asking follow questions. He was a wealth of knowledge and provided great suggestions. We had sufficient time at each stop to soak in the information, take photos, and immerse ourselves in the ambiance never feeling rushed. He answered questions by providing context and perspectives. There were toilet stops along the way, which was convenient. Since it’s Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival, the tour was vibrant and lively with amazing decorations everywhere. Overall, I’m so glad I booked this tour with Leo. Memorable experience and a great way to kickstart my exploration of Taipei!
This was a great little tour walking around the city and learning about the history of Taiwan. It’s really nice to hear it from a local person and being able to ask questions along the way. Lina was a great guide with valuable insight.
Leo was really friendly and knowledgeable about the history of Taiwan. He spoke fast at times but his humor made it fun! Would go again with him and even take a private tour for deeper insight.
Vincent’s Taipei history tour was EXCELLENT! Our group of 4 siblings went, and we’re all delighted with Vincent’s knowledge, and his great balance of warmth and professionalism. We learned loads in a short time and now feel like we better understand the remarkable journey Taiwan has undertaken in the recent past. 2.5 hours was a perfect introduction. I suggest doing this tour on your first or second day in town. Thanks so much, Vincent!
